Wonderful beach very close. Friendly staff. Beautiful rooms

This is a beautiful historic building with nice back garden. Rooms were quite nice. It seems to be more of a place locals go for dinner (which was mediocre). The staff were quite unfriendly and uninterested in chatting or recommending sights to tourists. Also, off the beaten track as far as the city of Ayr is concerned.

Comfortable stay in historic manor with charm. Room was large, but interior was dated. Our room had lovely garden view and play structure in walled garden for kiddos. Staff was very friendly. Hot breakfast was served in lobby and included options like full Scottish breakfast, eggs Benedict, French toast, etc.
Note, there were no elevators and rooms are 1-2 floors up so you must carry your luggage upstairs.

The free parking and included breakfast were good selling points. The building and gardens looked grand and were full of history. Inside is very clean and the staff were lovely and very polite.
The room we stayed in felt a little cramped but was fine for the 1 night. The en-suite bathroom was surprisingly spacious though. The bed was soft and comfortable. The room didn’t include air con though but had a few windows to open. Some of the fixtures and fittings looked a bit rundown. If these were changed I think it would make a big difference for not that much money.

Great location, no lift and a tight winding staircase makes it tough to get bags upnto rooms. No AC, small room, shower was either scalding hot or ice cold and kept switching during the shower.

Lovely garden. Friendly and welcoming staff. Stairs may be difficult for people with mobility issues. A lovely stay overall

A perfect experience! The room was great. Nice to get fresh air and properly closing curtains in a hotel! The check in staff were really helpful, and both the food and service at breakfast were excellent.

Very friendly staff, provided crib for our baby at last minute notice, and had great breakfast. Offered 24/hour beverages and our room was large with tall ceilings - very spacious. Definitely an old school vibe but clean and homey.

It's a charming rather quirky hotel with dark panelling and tartan carpets in places. It is very comfortable though the bed was hard and slanted to the right. Breakfast is ok but could be larger portions. It is 5 minutes walk from a fantastic beach and it is also dog-friendly. I would book again.

Wasn’t sure what to expect as I haven’t stayed in a non-chain hotel in years, and this experience let me know I need to use boutique hotels more often! The grounds are lovely, building impressive, friendly staff, atmospheric bar and dining area, and an individual room that was full of character. We really loved our stay here and would come again, thought I’d request a room on the first floor next time as the spiral staircase to the second floor was a challenge at the end of a long day!

It is a boutique hotel with only a limited number of rooms but we were made very welcome. The room and public areas were clean and well decorated and it was just very short walk to the beach. The gardens were beautiful.

We had a wonderful stay. The staff and food were incredible.
It was good exercise to wear some of the food off getting up to the attic room since the hotel has no lift.
We would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Beautiful place but in no way modern. The shower was very small, and I’m very short and small.

This is an older hotel, but it is charming. Staff were very helpful.

The hotel is decorated like a Scottish lodge with tartan carpets and antlers. Room 11 is spacious but overlooks the bin area and the furniture was a bit tired and dated. Pleasant staff and a very hot breakfast cooked to order.

When we arrived to the room it was not as we booked (outdated room). The heating system was not working while outside temperature was 5 degrees. The receptionist brought as an option a small electrical heater, but it was not a proper solution, and was very dusty (it smelled strongly dust burnt). He also said that we were going to receive a compensation for all the hassle that we encountered; but on the checkout we were told that we were not going to receive any compensation.
As we were not provided with the amenities that we booked and payed, there must be some form of compensation for this unpleasant experience.

A really lovely quaint hotel in the scottish baronial style. We had a room on the first floor which was a struggle to get to as we were laden with bags but in fairness, assistance was offered (pride came before a fall). The evening meal was delicious and there was suffucient choice on the menu. A range of wines were available, and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was excellent with a great choiceof foid and drink options. The room was larger than normally experienced at this price point. The bed was comfortable and super king size. The bathroom was large and ckean but bizarrely only serviced by a small bath with over head shower. Given the available room better use could be given to up grading. The Hotel is super dog friendly. We will definitely be back

A very nice friendly hotel. I think it may be changing ownership soon. Food and beer was very good - what more do you need. My only criticism is the lack of 13A sockets in the bedroom - nothing where the kettle and makings kept and a multi-way extension sat on top of the desk.

Satisfactory room, but no fridge or shower, food service, staff and host very welcoming, which made up for some of the obvious shortfalls in the condition of the property.

On the upside, which is why I have given them a 2, the staff were friendly. That's it! Now, the biggest issue I had with this hotel were the mattresses. They are so used that they are now thin, hard, uneven and sore to sleep on. I stayed in room 1 for the first night, got hardly any sleep (also lots of cobwebs). I asked to be moved to a different room. Interesting that the receptionist showed no surprise. I was then put in room 7. The mattress was the same disgraceful state, only with a thin topper, which didn't really do much good. If you search for the lowest scoring comments, you will see lots of them mention the atrocious mattresses. I asked other guests at breakfast, and they too were extremely disappointed with the mattresses and so did not get the sleep they needed. I had dinner (once was enough) - fish and chips. On the menu it said 'handmade chips' - they weren't - they were oven chips, undercooked. The peas were microwaved to the point they were shrinking and wilting. The fish batter looked like something out of the film Alien. This was anything but restaurant quality - absolutely appalling. With regards breakfast, the food was satisfactory, nothing special, but with few guests and two staff serving, it still took over 20 minutes just to get my cereal. And I had to remind them. Ridiculous. I left the hotel a day early, I couldn't stand sleeping on that mattress anymore. How this hotel gets a 'wonderful' is beyond me. Do not recommend a stay at this hotel!

This hotel is in the perfect location for a stay in Ayr. You are close enough to the town centre that you can walk in easily but far enough out that you’re not bothered with noise. The staff are excellent, the food is great and you can park right outside.
