Lovely, quiet, peaceful location. Lovely place to stop staff very friendly and helpful and food was fantastic. The room very clean and tidy had a great view of the countryside and the sheep and horses in the field next door.

The Hotel appears to hold events at weekends. Clearly it is advertising itself as wedding venue but also, while I was there, it held parties on the Friday and Saturday night - with consequent loud noise until well after midnight.
The room I stayed in is in a new, small complex, separate from the main hotel. The main issue is the room temperature which, on arrival was at 25 C and still at 25 C at midnight, dispite the room's heating being set at 17C. My inquiries were not well received (I was blamed for 'fiddling witht the controls' which was not the case. Eventually it was admitted that they have a serious problem with the underfloor heating and that thermal control of the rooms was ineffective. On the second day we switch off the heating entirely yet, even with an outside temperature below zero, the room temperature reached 24C on the third night. I asked whether it might be possible to change rooms, since I argued that such a high room temperature was unacceptable and was told that 'this was a decision only the owner could make' and that they couldn't contact the owner (or perhaps wouldn't), and that they did not know when the ower would be visiting. ('they come and go). So no-one on site has the managerial responsibility to deal with issues of this kind.
The food was very average as well

The location building and grounds were great. The servi e from staff was excellent. Warm and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. Cooked well.
The room however was basic and dated. For the price was @ £195 per night, was expecting 5 star. Wouldnt give the room 1 star. Clean yes, functional yes, quality no.

An excellent stay thank you, well appointed room, with balcony overlooking a beautiful Lakeland view. Staff most helpful and courteous.

Lovely place, good location and we felt very welcome. Unfortunately the TV wasn't working but they were waiting for an engineer to come out.

Lovely location staff are very friendly. Breakfast was superb. Our only small issue was the bed was a little hard for our liking.

a better welcome on arriving, having driven up and been delayed on motorway no quick food was available,so we went into locol town and got food from a friendly bar

A comfortable stay but we had issues with the timing for delivery of meals orders, we had to wait to some time for our food to be prepared and delivered.

Standard room- bed comfy but whole room needs an update.

Attractive hotel set in beautiful countryside on the edge of the Lake District. We ended up staying here because we couldn’t get anywhere else nearer the lakes, however this is a pretty good base for the northern lakes. Friendly and accommodating staff always happy to help. We stayed in a delux twin which did not have garden view, disappointing, but felt very new. It was spacious with a very nice bathroom. Beds a little hard but otherwise a comfortable room.

Only stayed the one night, but was impressed with what we experienced, which was mainly our room, evening meal and breakfast. All of which was top quality and not stupidly expensive. Hope to return soon.

For its size, this place is surprisingly grand. It’s been a gorgeous, opulent home at some point and still has that homely charm. The rooms are a good size and very clean with comfortable beds. The grounds are picturesque. The staff are friendly.

It looks and feels like a well cared for old building, old on the outside but modern and clean on the inside. We stayed here for one night just to visit the lakes and the rooms were lovely. We had an evening meal which was delicious and breakfast the next morning which was also good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone especially the receptionist called Joanna who couldn’t have been more helpful.

Great location (we went to Whinlatter mountain biking) and the staff were very helpful. Decent breakfast with only the room decor letting down the experience overall.

Newly built wing with terrace facing fields is good.
Very hot inside the room. No AC but a thermostat gives impression of AC.
Energy saving greeting lights were good.

On arrival the staff thought it was amusing that I had paid so much for one room through Expedia !
Well the joke really was on me
To sum the room up all I can say is 'carpet in the bathroom ',how unhygienic and disgusting is that .
So never again

We booked the family room at the last minute as we were travelling down south from Scotland and wanted a night in The Lakes en-route. What a brilliant find, we would definitely be pleased to recommend.

The hotel is in the middle of the countryside, quiet and beautiful, yet within reaching distance of most of the Lake District. The staff are excellent and the restaurant serves really first class food. We will be returning in the future.

Lovely hotel. Our room was really nice too and the veiw from the balcony was stunning. Service was nice staff polite and very helpful too. Could do with a bigger or clearer sigh on the main road as I over shot the drive to the hotel a couple of times lol. Waiting staff at breakfast were nice to.

Only thing we didn't like were the modern black and white leather chairs in the lovely old bar.
Not at all in keeping with the lovely 'old' room.
The food was still very good though. You still have marvelous staff. We will be back.
