The good: It's beautiful--the outside, the lobby, the rooftop, the other common areas, the room, the bathroom. Everything. The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is excellent.
The bad: The walls are paper thin. Hopefully, it's not everyday that someone comes to Quito to spend their entire day and night talking on the phone, but when they do, you will be privy to those phone calls (both ends) as if you were in the room with them. So, not restful. Also, we only had hot water for the shower one of two mornings.

Great vibe

Given this is an expensive hotel in Quito we had high expectations. Not only were we disappointed by the size of the room we had with a bathroom that was also way too small for two people, the room itself was tired and did not live up to the boutique style we were expecting. The service also was pretty terrible and resembled something you’d get in a cheap hotel. They charge for absolutely everything and there are no ‘perks’ like you’d expect with a premium hotel. We were there for New Year’s Eve and not even a complementary glass of fizz was provided to mark the occasion. Also if you’re staying in the same room we did you’ll be able to hear the music that is on repeat on the roof terrace
Overall there was no real warm feeling to the hotel, it felt cold and soul-less.

Beautiful hotel with touch of feeling of home. Staffs are very friendly. Close to Independence Square and all museums. Highly recommended for people who don’t like big crowded hotel and who appreciate good design

Beautiful little boutique hotel in the center of old town. It’s a charming building and sweet staff.

Lovely boutique hotel, best to book thru hotel to get breakfast included.

The hotel was a beautiful mix of modern and the tradition of the building. The view from the top was beautiful and the staff were so lovely.

Beautiful old building, updated nicely. Wonderful hotel and restaurant staff

This hotel is beautifully designed with cool modern rooms with high ceilings and several cozy public spaces in a turn of the century building. I could live in this hotel. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. We visited during a difficult time politically so it was great that the staff was extra accommodating. The hotel breakfasts and menu are delicious and the rooftop bar has great views over the historic district. The staff also upgraded us to a suite since the hotel wasn’t full and that was much appreciated and made everything extra comfortable. Thank you!

Excellent staff and restaurant. Area around the hotel though is not the greatest.

Wonderful staff, no faults here. Excellent location as well (if you are interested in sightseeing) that is just a few blocks away from the Plaza Grande, where you have the presidential palace, the cathedral, etc. We booked a room with a city view / balcony, which I don’t really think is worth the extra cost since the hotel is in front of a market / Western Union outlet. Based on what we have heard from locals, the historical center has a lot of pickpockets so just a word of caution about walking around at night.

The staff were wonderful. The hotel was clean and the rooms were nice. Easy walk to Plaza Grande and the sights of Old Town. I definitely recommend.

The location of this hotel is great. Walkable distance to the historic center and it’s attractions. The only downside was that it seemed as if we were the only guests at the time so the hotel staff was slightly slow. Also, most of the staff only speaks Spanish.

Great location, stylish design, warm staffs, there are minor improvements can be make: better towels, sometimes it felt the front desk was understaffed, it was labeled VIP access but I didn’t remember got any VIP benefis.

Amazing Hotel! Great design in common areas, rooms, and wonderful rooftop with views of the city. Walkable location.

Fabulous small hotel with courteous staff and a unique vibe. The rooms are on the small side, but are wonderfully laid out so that they feel spacious and luxurious. Food in the restaurant is good, and the rooftop lounge has a wonderful view. Would absolutely stay here again on a trip to Quito!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Carlota! Upon arrival, we were graciously greeted by Lisabeth, who attended to all of our needs. She gave us a quick tour of this beautifully renovated property before showing us to our room. Clean and extremely well appointed, our room spanned two floors. Picture a SOHO loft in the hear of Quito's historic district. The view form the rooftop deck was an added bonus! Lisabeth then helped us arrange our transportation to Banos the next morning . Our driver was awesome! Prompt, professional and extremely friendly, he took great care of us.Thank you to Lisabeth and and the Carlota for making our first trip to Ecuador so memorable. We look forward to our next visit!

Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, comfortable beds.

We stayed at the Carlota on two non-consequitive nights (we had a night in between in the mountains). The Carlota is a beautifully designed hotel with modern rooms and amenities. The staff was very professional and treated us very well. The hotel has a small restaurant and bakery attached to it. We ate one night at the bistro, which had affordable, modern takes on Ecuadorian food. The location of the hotel was wonderful; it is located two blocks away from the heart of old town Quito. Overall, this was a great hotel for staying in Quito and exploring old town.

Very nice hotel close to the Main Square. Excellent design that respect the historic structure while adding some modern elements, very good coffee shop, breakfast restaurant and bar on the roof with great views. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would particularly thank Lisbeth, who was particularly nice and helpful.

We highly recommend this hotel, very close to Plaza Grande in downtown Oldtown Cueto. The food in this facility is wonderful and the staff are outstanding a great location centrally located

What a great find. I strongly recommend this property for the items mentioned above. This is an amazing property all the way around.

Outstanding boutique hotel in old town Quito. We walked all over the historic center in Quito after filling ourselves in their incredible breakfast and organic coffee. We didn’t eat again until dinner! We did enjoy a delicious and beautiful dinner one evening as well. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are outstanding. We loved the beautiful design elements in this historic building which has been tastefully renovated while preserving the historic charm. The rooftop deck has amazing views of Quito. We loved loved loved this hotel. The rooms are very efficiently laid out, not huge, but totally fine for my husband and I. Highly recommend.

Upon checking in on New Years Eve, we asked for restaurant recommendations. The female in reception at check in told us the hotel had a restaurant. I asked for other recommendations and was told, "there are no restaurants available tonight". I asked if she could call a few restaurants and without her making any effort what so ever, I was again told there were NONE available other than theirs. The rude and unhelpful attitude put a damper on our evening. We found our own restaurant which was not as nice as it could have been with even a little help. The room for 3 was extremely small, no windows and had to climb into a twin bunk bed to sleep! Had to leave a light on during the night so no one would kill themselves during the night trying to get down to use the bathroom. The room was very expensive especially when compared to value. Although it was in the historic district and a good location, I would choose another hotel.

Stunning building, beautiful redesign, comfortable room, and friendly staff. Great location, right in the heart of Old Town.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Carlota. If wasn't perfect, but a good option in historical district.

Hotel Carlota is housed in a beautifully restored historical house in the historic center of Quito. The hotel interior is fully modern. During the daytime hours, this is a great base for exploring the city: most of the sights are within easy walking distance. In the evening, the old district falls quiet and most of the good restaurants are a taxi-ride away in the new city. We did not mind this at all. The hotel staff, especially the chef (who we think is member of the family that owns the hotel), are warm, hospitable and friendly. All in all, we had a wonderful time. The only downside was that our room was rather tight spacewise and the internet in the room was rather weak.

We had an amazing stay. This hotel has so many nice touches, and the staff was terrific. We really enjoyed the thought that went into the details and decorations. And the staff went out of their way to be welcoming and friendly. You will definitely have a better visit to Quito if you stay at this hotel.

We stayed three nights at Carlota at the end of week on a live-a-board in Galapagos before heading back to the USA. This wonderful boutique hotel is a couple of blocks from the Grand Plaza. Great location. Prior to our trip, the hotel staff helped arranged our transfer to and from the airport. (The airport is about 40 minutes from downtown Quito. This relatively new hotel is beautiful. According to the owner whom we met, the building, originally his mother's, was converted into a hotel about last year. The front desk staff went out of their way to help us including arranging for a private driver to take us to all the attractions we wanted to see in our one full day in Quito. The food, wine, and service in the hotel restaurant were wonderful. The chief personally came to meet on more than one occasion. The roof top bar had incredible views of the surrounding community and the mountains in the back ground. All the rooms we looked into were beautiful. The only thing we wished for was a little more drawer space for our clothes. We had plenty of room to hang our clothes, but no real draw space. Maybe remove the small desk and put in a dresser. Otherwise, five star.
