We thoroughly enjoyed the first floor apartment as well as its location and the fact that we could bring our dog along. The back yard is bigger than I expected and we were near by a great dog-friendly coffee shop as well.
We will be returning to this house whenever we come to visit our daughters who both live within walking distance.

We loved the unit--very comfortably and stylishly redone historic and funky genuine Carytown home. So convenient--easy to walk to restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. We had a great time and recommend this unit to Richmond visitors.

Beautifully updated apartment in charming old building, with big, modern kitchen and comfortably sized bathroom with great shower. The beds and bed linens are top notch. Plenty of on street parking, and lots in the shade. The location could not be better – steps away from the fun and funky shops and restaurants on Cary Street, and just a few of blocks away from bigger stores like Publix, Fresh Market, Walgreens, CVS and Petco. Wonderful neighborhood for walking.
The owners are super responsive and very nice. Check in and check out were seamless, and we found chips and a bottle of delicious wine on arrival.
Like many old buildings, not as soundproof as more modern dwellings, but our upstairs neighbors were quiet and the street wasn’t noisy at all while we were there. We had a fantastic stay, and will definitely be back!

echoing all points from the review posted on Apr 11, 2023 below - clean space, nice walkable distance to shops and restaurants, comfortable beds and many kitchen amenities- but the listing does not disclose that there are THREE rentable spaces (not just this one) on the property.
unit 1 is the downstairs (this listing), unit 2 is upstairs and there's a third small studio in the backyard area (we thought it was a shed/garage until we saw lights turn on outside at night and saw people checking in)
after our first night, a group checked in upstairs and their music was blasting into the first floor (i don't think they were even playing it at a super high volume, its just that the walls/windows/floors are paper thin - you can hear their normal volume conversations as if you're in the room). around 7pm we got the sense they would be continuing to play music/party and have additional talkative guests arriving into the night so we chose to just abandon ship and leave early for our drive home rather than have a noisy night keeping us awake.
the front bedroom can hear everything on the street as well - car noises, conversations of people walking by on the sidewalk - its like you're sleeping on the front porch outside. the bedroom closer to the kitchen in the middle of the house didn't have road noise, but there was still the upstairs noise, as well as the large daycare nextdoor with kids making noise until about 5/6pm when they all get picked up.

The unit was exactly as pictured and very clean, plenty of room and nice kitchen and furnishings. Full disclosure, though, we did not realize that we were only one of three units continuously sharing the house and small backyard with three other parties and no less than four other dogs. In the house, there is virtually no separation of sound from the second level to the first. On our first night, the group upstairs arrived home around 2 am and was very loud and boisterous for an hour afterwards, We could hear every word, especially from an apparently very drunk woman speaking at the top of her lungs. You can hear someone get out of bed in their bare feet to go to the bathroom or zip up their luggage; to say you you can hear EVERYTHING is not exaggerating, so we did not sleep well most nights. There is also a day care center immediately next door, so lots of kids playing and screaming on weekdays until about 6 pm; eventually, our dogs mostly got used to it by the time we left (the following weekend).
Lastly, fertilizer had recently been spread across the backyard so we really had to limit our dogs' time in the yard and monitor them closely while they did their business. That sort of thing should be done when the place is not occupied for a week or so, but with three units sharing an approximate 500 sf yard, it's probably difficult to manage.

We loved our stay in Carytown in this dog friendly apartment that was perfect for 4 people for a weekend. We had issues with the people staying in the apartment above us leaving their dog crying hysterically overnight, but the host was quick to respond and address the issue. We will stay here again.

This place is terrific for people with pets or small children. The enclosed back yard provides a safe environment for outdoor play. My cat is not a climber and was contained within the yard. The location is excellent in charming vintage Richmond and parking was easy. The apartment is vintagy well-appointed with everything you need. Other units are on the property so be prepared for some noise from neighbors. Check-out requires some cleaning tasks. I found this a bit irritating given the cleaning fee also charged. However, the cleaning fee isn’t astronomical.

We had a great trip visiting with friends. The historic house has all the charms of an older property, but updated in all the places you want (heat, kitchen, bathroom, all beautifully appointed). The pet-friendly property was perfect for us and our pup. You can't ask for a better location in Carytown, with easy access to everywhere else we wanted to visit in Richmond. When we come back, we'll look to book here first!

Great location at this beautifully updated historic 2 bed 1 bath unit in a home in Carytown! Loved the decor, backyard plot of land for my little pup. So convenient of an uber ride to a concert in downtown Richmond. Love in independent shops, consignment stores, and restaurants in what felt like a cool and diverse Main Street area of Carytown! Host was in good communication with us and we felt taken care of if we would have needed anything or had any issues. Went with my friend and husband and we highly recommend this charming VRBO! You won't be disappointed. Clean, nicely stocked with coffee, tea, and a bottle of Chardonnay which we left as we didn't drink it.

This was such a great place for us to take refuge when having to leave our home in Florida during an expected hurricane. We had a small dog and a cat, the backyard is fully fenced and very safe for animals. Lots of close by shops and restaurants to walk to and easy to find street parking. The unit had lots of extras like coffee, tea, toiletries and the kitchen had like new cookware and utensils. Owners were so accommodating and let us extend our stay one more night when we needed to stay longer than expected and asked if we needed anything also. This will be our new home away from home!
