First and foremost, John and Patty are wonderful hosts and amazingly caring people who made us feel right at home. They are easy to talk to and very accommodating.
Gated entrance made us feel so comfortable and secure.
The property is so full of life and has such gorgeous views!! Loads of fruit trees and places to walk.
We comfortably fit 8 people in the home and there was plenty of amenities for all. Games and cards available to play which kept us busy in the evening and kept our teens off devices. Beach stuff and towels for use.
Everything is clean and tidy without feeling stuffy or uncomfortable.
Typical Hawaiian road driveway to get to the secluded home, slightly steep and only one lane but easily drivable and those who live in the area were nice enough to give us space. (Side note… we rented jeeps for our Hawaii stay).
I will absolutely recommend this place to others and look for it when I plan my next trip.
when looking for a place to stay in Hawaii go in prepared to embrace all of the life and culture that Hawaii offers.

This is a great property with great hosts and a fantastic view of Kona and the ocean. The only negative at all is a steep and narrow driveway, but we had no problem navigating it.

This property was perfect for our multi generational vacation. The house was fully equipped with everything you could need. The views from the balcony are breathtaking. Enjoy walking around the grounds checking out all the flowers and fruit trees. The hosts are so lovely and very responsive. As others have mentioned the road in (and out again) is terrifying but the pay off is worth it.

Patty and John have a little paradise waiting for their guests! From the spectacular sunsets enjoyed on the lanai, to the evening and morning views over Kaileau-Kona, to the fruit trees that we were welcomed to enjoy, to the fully stocked 'home away from home' to the central island location, our 10 day stay was as perfect as we could have imagined.
We arrived very late into Hawaii and it was dark when we set out to find Holualoa Hideaway but the directions that Patty gave us made it pretty easy to find. The last turn onto Holualoa Hui Rd is not for the faint of heart but it got easier to navigate, especially in the daylight. Your own/rented vehicle is a must for staying at this location.
Patty and John are perfect hosts. They live on the shared property so accessing them was easy if we required assistance or were looking for recommendations but they also kept a professional boundary unless we opened the conversation first.
Beach towels and chairs, a cooler, yoga mats, games, books, a Big Island visitor guide for reference, a washer and dryer and air conditioned rooms made our vacation just that much more enjoyable.
From here we ventured north to Hawi and the Pololu Valley hike, along the western shores to find perfect beach and fishing spots, east to Hilo to the market, waterfalls and Waipi'o Valley and south to the most southern tip of the USA at South Point and the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
We loved our stay and we will definitely be back...someday!

We stayed at John and Patty's beautiful guest house in January 2024 for a "sibling reunion" of adult (senior) sibs. The home was beautiful and well appointed with every convenience we wanted. We enjoyed the big wrap around deck with views out to the ocean for relaxing evenings and for dining. John and Patty were close by, available and friendly, but not at all intrusive. This home was a wonderful base for us to use as we explored the various parts of the island. I would highly recommend it! As stated in other reviews, the road to their property is steep and a little intimidating the first time you drive it, especially idc you come after dark. But no problem at all after that first adventure.

It was so enjoyable to spend time at the house with plenty of room for 6 adult family. We made sure to get back for sunsets over the water on a fantastic porch, Cook on the BBQ and nice kitchen. We loved the different fruit from the property for breakfast.

This was a most memorable vacation for our family. Our Granddaughter was calling this our “ Hawai’i house” and absolutely loved everything about it. She really liked the dog Petra ( talked about her again and again). Nothing beats getting up in the morning to a pot of fresh Kona coffee and drinking it on the patio with the most amazing view of the sea. I think our grandkids loved the view as much as the adults did! Location wise it was ideal. So easy to get to town and to the cloud forest for a beautiful hike. We have already recommended this rental to our extended family and friends. They could not get over the views. Property is beyond description. Absolutely wonderful. The hosts, John and Patty are amazing. We cannot wait to stay again when we come back to the Big Island.

Great home with an ocean view nestled on the hill above Kailua-Kona. Patty and John were great in helping us during the stay.

Patty and John were wonderful hosts and they have a beautiful property that's full of gorgeous fruits trees! We had loads of fresh fruits every day. The house was very spacious, clean and stocked with everything we needed. The last bit of the drive to the house was a steep hill adventure and I recommend a 4WD/AWD vehicle.

We had a wonderful stay in Holualoa thanks to the gracious hosts, Patty and John. Patty greeted us upon arrival and was so kind in giving us a tour around the backyard, telling us about all the numerous tropical fruit trees and helping us pick ripe fruit.
The house itself was great for our family of 7. The kitchen was stocked with necessities and having the laundry on site was super convenient. Patty checked in often to make sure we had what we needed. Location is about 10-15 minutes to most places within the Kailua-Kona area and coffee farms.
A couple things to note. The drive down from the main road to the house is VERY steep and rather narrow. Just use caution when driving through that part. Also, there is one bedroom (with twin beds) that can only access the main area through either the primary bedroom or the other guestroom. The door to the guestroom is very thin and does not close all the way so there isn't complete privacy.
Overall, we had a great stay! As a fruit-lover, this was heaven and we would love to come back during mango season!

We had a family wedding in Kona and gathered family from four different regions to this wonderful house. We had local family come for dinner, cooked on the outdoor grill, spent mornings and evenings on the lanai overlooking Kona, and everyone had space to retreat and read or just have some quiet time.
We wished we could stay longer. The space was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed fresh orange juice from trees each morning and hosts were amazing.

There were between 6-8 in our group at various points, and the place was spacious enough to accommodate us all comfortably. Lots of outdoor space also and fruit trees galore!
Patty and John were most gracious hosts. Very kind, caring and attentive.
I recommend this spot highly!
