About this house rental
Enjoy Hood Canal at a charming waterfront getaway. This pleasant spot is the perfect place to make memories with family and friends. Gladwin House is located on the sunny North Shore of Hood Canal, just outside of Belfair, where you can pick up groceries, coffee, pizza and gasoline when needed. New visitors come for the waterfront access and charming interiors; our repeat visitors know that stargazing in the hot tub followed by a nightcap in front of the immense fireplace is the real draw. You may see flocks of waterbirds from the nearby protected wetlands; a heron fishing for dinner; and, of course, still blue waters under Pacific Northwest skies.
The House
A charming log cabin full of character, Gladwin House was built over 100 years ago as part of a logging camp on the shore of Hood Canal. The house has been expanded and upgraded, but it still has that cozy log house feel, complete with hot tub facing the canal and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.
The Main Room
The relaxing living room has a beautiful view of Hood Canal, as well as a massive wood-burning fireplace made of river stones. The large room also has comfy seating, a flatscreen TV, and a charming daybed by the fireplace.
The Kitchen
The large, fully equipped eat-in kitchen features a huge antique sink, and vintage appliances that have stood the test of time. Ample counter space, a seltzer maker, and a tea and coffee-making station, plus all the pots, pans and utensils make for a sublime cooking experience. Two tables in the kitchen mean that one can be a puzzle and gaming table while the large table can seat the whole gang for meals.
The Bedrooms
Tio Tom’s Room (sleeps one in a single bed), Main Floor Queen, Second Floor King , and The Family Bedroom (one Queen bed and four single kids beds, stacking if needed). The four cheerful bedrooms ooze charm and comfort. Updated linens, plenty of covers, and plush pillows await.
The Bathrooms
The single bathroom is divided into two rooms for privacy: one with the shower and sink, and one with the toilet.
Getting Here
Gladwin House is at the end of the Hood Canal, outside of Belfair and a reasonable (1 hour 20 minutes with no traffic) drive from Seattle over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Activities
In the summer, the water is warm enough to swim and play in when the tide comes in over the tide flats. Put the kayak in the water and explore the Theler Wetlands and Union River Estuary. Take a nature hike, or mountain bike nearby trails, including in Belfair State Park. Relish the quiet and the peaceful, picturesque water views from the expansive deck. At night, you can roast marshmallows over the fire pit and stargaze.
Come wintertime, you can explore the area’s charm, take long walks, and relax in the hot tub and watch the waterbirds flock. Finish up your day with a warm beverage and a good book by the cozy river rock fireplace; there’s a large flatscreen to watch your favorite movies, and plenty of puzzles and board games to enjoy, as well.
We invite you to come and enjoy the serenity at Gladwin House!

The house is very comfortable, with a/c and heating units throughout for the very variable weather in Belfair. Beds were super comfy and well pillowed and linened. The kayaks and "old chunky" made for lots of fun on the water (when the tide is high) right outside the backdoor. The six of us and our two pups had lots of space to spread out and enjoy ourselves inside and outside. It was a fantastic visit at a fantastic VRBO. Owners were very responsive and kind. Highly recommended for your Puget Sound adventures!! Oh!!! And lots of bird and aquatic animals to see. Don't forget your binoculars!!

We had an amazing long weekend at this beach house! The cabin's spaciousness and its stunning waterfront location with great views made our stay truly enjoyable. Daniel thought of everything, providing life vests, a TV with movies, and puzzles for our toddler, which was much appreciated. We also enjoyed relaxing in the jacuzzi. The neighborhood was quiet and felt very safe, and Daniel's dining suggestions in the area were fantastic. Unfortunately, due to the super windy weather over the past three days, we couldn’t kayak on the water, which was a bit of a shame. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend this place for a family getaway!

The host was very helpful. The house was very clean and stocked with everything you need right down to life vests, boats, buckets, shovels, firewood and goulashes. SO much character and history! We loved it! Our bed was super comfortable. The only thing we struggled with were electrical outlets in places to accommodate both AC and 2 cpap in a bedroom. Some of the extension cords didn’t work. We loved this cabin. We will be back!

My wife and I stayed for a full month in the Gladwin House. It was truly a home away from home for us. It was a great launching point for us as we explored the Kitsap Peninsula and beyond. We visited in the fall, so although we really enjoyed the views from the house, we didn't spend any time on the water. It was just the two of us, and the space the house offered was ample for our needs. We loved having a room that worked great as a remote office. Internet was stable and sufficient to join Zoom calls in the office while streaming video. The home was a bit nostalgic for me. It reminded me of my grandmother's home which was also a little older with vintage but serviceable kitchen appliances, and it had everything we needed for our stay (including plenty of blankets and towels). We loved having two tables to use, doing many puzzles and games during our stay, and we loved using the fireplace, fire pit, and hot tub as well. We also got to enjoy some figs, grapes, and pears from outside just before they stopped producing for the season. The only downside I noticed was the there is only a single bathroom, but the toilet and bathtub were in separate rooms which was helpful. Also, the upstairs ceilings are low and I often hit my head, and I had to crouch to use the shower due to the low ceiling in the bath tub as well (but full disclosure, I am 6'4" tall). If we are in the area again, we would definitely love to return!

Our family (2 adults, 2 teens, 2 dogs) had a great time at Gladwin house. Exactly as listed, but all just a little bit better! Huge living room, great kitchen and dining areas with most everything you need for meals. Hot tub was a lovely surprise (we didn’t know there was one). Beds are really nicely appointed and comfortable and there are tons of fun places to relax. If you want to try for oysters bring some mud boots for low tide. We also caught some delicious clams. Kayaks, old surf board there at the ready. QFC’s only 10 minutes away, so easy to grab supplies. Communication with owners was quick and helpful. We will be returning! Thanks!

We loved the house! We had a great time. We all enjoyed our stay, house was perfect. Owners were very communicative
My only complaint was that the tides go down drastically so paddleboarding in the morning was not an option! Check the tide schedule ahead of time !

The home is very spacious and was plenty of room for our group of 8 adults. The low tide was LOW! It looked like you could walk across to the other side so not a good time for water access but the scenery was beautiful, we saw so many bald eagles, and the hot tub was perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Perks: Ample space, feels like you're camping due to being so near to lynch park (off leash dog park and picnic area right next door), belfair state park and the historical home. We brought firewood for once and did not need it. There are tons of water safety and water toys in the boathouse for use. Small but working propane grill and yes it has propane (we have arrived at spots before that had propane heaters and BBQs without propane in very remote locations, not the case here) Very well stocked on firewood for both fire pit and fireplace. Could have used some lighter fluid to help start the fire pit but town is literally 6 minutes away so we could easily have remedied that. We did not take advantage of the oyster and clam bed directly in front or the double kayaks/paddle board, but the kids and dogs enjoyed the beach immensely. Big dining table out on the deck (not pictured) that is a huge perk. Couple cons to be aware of...limited cookware sp large meals a little tricker as not all the stove tops work uniformly, the refrigerator also freezing in areas should not. Guests reported they thought the kitchen was fun even though breakfast took so long...like camping...also was kicking myself for bot bringing a fan to sleep better. Sounds do carry in the house. Hot tub worked great when we got there but pay attention to the water level closely as it quit heating second day due to hot weather and going too low so our family got in the second evening and it was lukewarm. Filled it as suggested and it was hot again (right after they left...lol). We would stay again. Lovely time bonding with new grandbaby and they even stayed over as planned as the upstairs is almost a rental all its own. Only one bathroom but because the shower and toilet are in separate rooms no one ever encountered the bathroom full, so it wasn't an issue even though I thought it would be. All in all a lovely location. I can see why families come here year after year.

Me and my friends had a great time, it's an absolute gorgeous place. Looks even better than in pictures. I plan on reserving again in the future for a relaxing weekend with my husband and daughter. Definitely worth it!

Beautiful setting on the water.
Enjoyed kayaking, the big fireplace and cozy setting. Saw eagles in nearby trees and several herons.
Easy check in and check out and host was easy to communicate with and super helpful.

Our stay here was a lot of fun. While the surrounding neighborhood wasn't the nicest, the views of the canal made up for it. It was the perfect cabin vibe we were looking for. Property could use a few upgrades such as a new grill and a large frying pan - but for the most part it was well equipped. We loved the wood burning fireplace.

We are so lucky to have found this house 10 years ago through friends, and have been coming ever since. We absolutely adore it, and have endless wonderful family memories here.

The house/cabin is everything it's listed to be, and the property is magical. The beds were soft and dreamy; the hot tub was clean, well kept, and heated! (We've rented a few where that wasn't the case)
In the right season, they have delicious tiny green grapes you can reach from the hot tub! There's also a selection of kayaks, water board, and life jackets in case you forget to bring yours; the water is fantastic, so you'll want to get out on it. The hosts were so warm and welcoming.

This is the second year we have stayed at this property. It is our children's (and my) favorite place to stay. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The kitchen has antique but functional appliances and everything you need to cook for a group. The hot tub is a great place to hang out in the evenings. We really enjoyed the addition of the single kayak this year. They also have a double kayak and a paddle board. Close to town and Belfair State Park. The owners are very responsive and easy to work with. The only negative was that we were there during an exceptionally hot week and the AC had a difficult time cooling down the main floor of the house and some of the windows did not have blinds in them to block out the sun. The upstairs bedrooms each have their own unit and were nice and cool.

Cute log cabin with olden days style but comfortable and cute amenities right on the tidal flats of the Hood Canal. Fun and easy rowboating and wading. Great hot tub. Excellent communication with the host.

We sought a place large enough for us and our children and their spouses, plus our dog. We got that plus kayak experience, bird watching, and fabulous sunrises over the water. The Gladwin Beach House is well equipped in kitchen and with linens. The owners were super helpful on arrival and at check out. Highly recommend.

Sitting out on the deck overlooking Hood Canal is just the perfect start and (eventually) end to a lovely getaway. The beds are comfortable, the living room is conversation friendly, the kitchen is a little rustic but very functional. Seeing the bald eagles was one of the highlights. Five star getaway.

This was a great place for our family to get away for the weekend. The hot tub was really nice and took the edge off of the cold and rainy weather. One bathroom wasn’t the end of the world. All in all it was a really great place to stay!

We were thrilled to be able to spend a winter music retreat weekend at the Gladwin House. The log build lended to some truly gorgeous resonance, and the amazing fireplace kept us nice and warm. Super inspiring to wake up to the herons on the water, and even if it’s raining, the hot tub is great! I’d love to visit in the summertime as well, I’m sure it’s nice to sip a beverage on the back patio and watch the sunset.

Our group of friends were looking to get away for a quick overnight trip not too far from where we live, and this house popped up. 4 bedrooms is hard to find so we felt lucky to all have our own rooms. Part of this house is an old log cabin from the early 1900’s which made it super interesting. We drove up to Silverdale and did an escape room experience which was a blast and ate at Silver City Restaurant and Brewery and their food did not disappoint!

We couldn't have found a better place to spend a stormy thanksgiving weekend. It was so relaxing sitting by the huge fireplace chatting and doing puzzles. The hot tub overlooking the Hood canal is perfect. The cabin is welcoming, roomy and very clean The kitchen is well equipped enough to cook a complete thanksgiving dinner. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great sights, smells, sounds of the estuary. Very well equipped kitchen and puzzle closet. YUMMY big fireplace!! Our blustery Autumn stay was wonderful and we hope to return when it’s warm for kayaking and swimming. Oh, and last but not least: incredible friendly helpful hosts!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Gladwin House! It was just a quick, last minute getaway to spend some quality time together as a family. And we found everything to our liking. The owners, Ai Ling & Lance were wonderful. Greeted us upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. Even left us fresh flowers as a welcome. They even provided their cell numbers in case anything popped up during our stay.
The house itself is very cozy. Great fireplace with plenty of firewood provided. Hot tub was clean and so nice to relax in each evening. Kitchen is well stocked and very cute w/antique appliances. And everything worked great. The beds are very comfy & cozy, lots of good pillows.
The house sits right on the Hood Canal with lots of direct water access. There are fruit trees, pears, figs & even grapes hanging above you in hot tub! Beautifully landscaped yard, lots of flowers. The deck is well laid out and has Adirondack chairs, a table w/umbrella as well as hoses needed for rinsing off and even a hot water outdoor shower.
The tide goes out twice a day, so we timed our activities around that. In the morning it’s beautiful and the water looks like glass. Fog sits on the trees and it’s so peaceful. Then as the morning goes on the tide goes out and most of the water disappears slowly. So we would play games, do puzzles or go for hikes in the afternoons. Then later afternoon we would take out the kayaks and the rowboat and explore. There’s a little beach just up the way with sand, which our 3 year old loved. We saw lots of seals. They have 2 kayaks, a canoe & row boat. Tons of life jackets and oars to choose from. We were kicking ourselves for not bringing our stand up paddle boards, as that would have been ideal first thing in the morning......next time! We also did a little fishing from in front of the house, as well as found lots of oysters. I think high tide was around 6pm and so the water goes back out after dinner when it’s getting dark. Pretty interesting to watch how it changes gradually.
We had a wonderful 4 days there, wish it were longer! Thanks Ai Ling & Lance ad hope to come and stay again next year.

After missing going to the cabin last year due to Covid, I was thrilled to be able to come back this year. As every year that we have been there, the owners are gracious hosts who check on us to make sure everything is ok. My grandson (3) had a wonderful time at the neighborhood park and instantly went for the toy cars in the chest at the park. We made a nice fire in the firepit Saturday night and made smores. It was a nice family gathering that evening. The cabin was very clean when we arrived. The heater was on, so the house was nice and warm. We might try to go back again in the summer next year so that we can enjoy the warmer weather over there. Thank you so much Lance and Ai Ling!

If you’re looking for a great place in this area to stay this is the one. Absolutely awesome place. Decor, appliances, yard with fruit trees and flowers, etc. I can go on and on but to understand how wonderful it truly is you have to spend time here yourself. We loved being able to watch the stars at night and when it was cloudy the stars the fireplace was very cozy. The host is so incredibly friendly and thoughtful. Can’t wait to be back.
