We waited 10 minutes to check in, despite calling the phone number on reception twice.
We got to our room and there were stains on the pillows, the carpet was filthy, the light shade had years worth of cobwebs on and one of the taps did a near on 360 degree turn in the bathroom.
It was a 3 person room although it only had 1 large towel and the bed for the 3rd person was rough enough to break a man’s back, Luckily there were only 2 of us staying.
There is 1 parking space that is so tight you have to breath in to get in your car and then pull the car out to let passengers in.
The people were fairly friendly enough which is about the only positive.
Sorry! Shoestring budget and greedy business owners seems to be the cause of all of the above.
Not even cheap.

booked for fri sat. Which I paid in cash, and was sent an email contribution that i would receive a full discount if I cancelled with 36hrs of check in time.
I cancelled the next day and requested my money back I then had to go through painful questions and attempts to tel me I wasn’t entitled to my full refund.
He eventually gave me 70% two days later. Which I’m not happy about at all. Felt the whole time I was dealing with something wrong.
I wouldn’t trust there manager, at all. Avoid at all costs

This boutique hotel was a former police station but the transformation has been completed to a very high standard. A little more attention to running repairs would earn a higher review score.

We booked for B&B to be close to the majestic theatre. We booked a pre theatre dinner only to be told when we arrived the restaurant was closed. Our allocated room was upstairs (no lift). One guest had limited mobility and the room was changed to ground floor when the receptionist realised this. The receptionist was extremely helpful offering to accommodate us to eat in the restaurant with take away food.
The room was reasonably clean but required some high dusting and the decor was very tired. The receptionist did everything possible to make our stay comfortable in unfortunate circumstances which were beyond his control. The staff at breakfast was helpful and polite.

The Hotel is a shocker unclean floors and carpets bathroom bed and linen had dirty marks and hair in the bed a tea cup had a scum mark half way up in the middle it had not been washed
We were moved from one room to another which was just as bad we packed up and left after 20 minutes feeling unclean and scratching this place is a disgrace
I am requesting a full refund

Reception wasn’t staffed for arrival, but there was a telephone number to call and the manager arrived a few minutes later.
We tried to have a shower before popping out for a bite to eat but the shower looked like a rhino had used it before us! You couldn’t switch to the main shower head as the handle had been snapped off and the temperature was stuck in one position - scalding! The sliding doors to the shower were off their rails so when we managed to use the hand held shower head water puthered out over the floor. We had a word with the manager who apologised, said he was aware and a plumber was coming the next day - no good for us as we were only stopping for one night. We were offered another room which was put to us that it was a more expensive family room, but the one offered was no where near as nice as the one booked.
As alternative to the shower we had a lovely roll top bath, which was nice but the pipe work up to the taps had been repaired with a hefty amount of black tape!
The room was very clean generally and the beds were super comfy.
Breakfast was self service with a selection of cereals, toast and crumpets juices and tea / coffee.
With a little more care, a full English breakfast this could have been a lovely hotel but I wouldn’t book again.

Just a two day stop over .So, cant grumble. Parking is a real problem as the off street is permit or time restricted Managed with the kind help of the hotel to find something but dont count on this one off. All in all it was fine.

I would have given an excellent rating but for two things. I was told that the doors would be locked at 10 pm but on arriving at 9:30 pm found them locked and reception unmanned. Secondly the shower temperature could not be adjusted from scalding hot so unable to shower before I left.

We booked for 1 adult one child (2 beds) on arrival there was minimal staff. Our room was large and clean but only the double bed was made up, no bedding for the sofa bed and no staff to ask. This meant I slept on the sofa bed with no pillow/blanket, needless to say I didn’t really sleep. Not great when we paid more than we would have in a premier or travel lodge -

Room was average. No restaurant, breakfast minimal. Found it disappointing, felt pictures were not accurate to this accommodation.

Outdated and dusty room. The bathroom was large but the finishing was poor. The taps in the shower was broken and the only water was scouring hot and unusable.

Excellent place to stay, helpful staff, comfortable room and a free continental breakfast, unfortunately the restaurant was no longer open Which was a bit of a shame hopefully it gets back up and running, the park directly opposite was brilliant was nice for a stroll along the water and a evening run along the canal, hotel was great value for money and Retford town was quite pleasant, would stay again.

I scored low on condition as we had problems in the bathroom. Shower broke in my partners hand and bath shower leaked all over floor. We did manage to get a wash of sorts but bathroom floor was like a swimming pool. The actual bedroom was lovely.
The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful. In fact, we found the people of Retford very friendly and helpful. A trip to the town is worth it just for them.
The exterior of building needs a bit of attention and the front door steps are hazardous. Having said that, it is a building with potential.
Continental breakfast was included and, although not exciting, was satisfactory. The coffee was good!

All good, just what I needed

Was an unusual building for a hotel, an old police station with a lot of original features. Would stay again.

Could do with a little tlc generally in the rooms, service etc .

Great hotel for the price, I was pleasantly surprised and it exceeded expectations. Good location and friendly staff.

bed was alright, carpets dirty, chewing gum was on the bathroom floor, clearly no water management or clear identifications of water flushing as shower head was revolting, legionella waiting to happen. bathroom overall was disgusting.

The place is very good and in a good place. Although it didn't have cooked breakfast I really enjoyed my stay there 😍

This was a reasonably priced hotel. It is a shame that there isn’t any parking on site, but car parks are close by to be fair. The room looked tired and could do with a refresh. The staff were friendly and helpful. They helped with our luggage so i couldn’t fault the staff there.

It’s a shame it’s now so run down. Room smelt foisty & was freezing. Went for breakfast and as I’m gluten free, told there’s nothing for me & didn't even get offered a drink! Room didn’t get made up even though staying for 2 nights.

Hotel is pleasant enough and clean however not many local restaurants and area surrounding not fantastic

Very comfortable stay in a quirky ex-police station. It’s a pity the restaurant wasn’t open. My room was spacious with a stand alone bath. The fixtures and fittings were of high standard. The room was very clean apart from an oversight whereby the previous persons towel was hanging on the door and the bin needed emptied! Breakfast was good quality although not much choice for some, however, a large fry always suits my needs. The staff were all pleasant and we were even given a quick tour of the cells. Not sure why there has been so many negative comments so far, my only comment would be the lack of atmosphere but with a dozen rooms and no restaurant I guess other guests had to go somewhere else of an evening.

Got no sleep as someone was walking past my room every half hour, creaking floorboards till about 7am. No information given on check in on the time of breakfast. Toilet bin had not been emptied from last guest.

The room was cold as heating was not working and had this noise that kept me awake. The window also kept making a banging sound. No towels were supplied and there was no one to contact after 10pm.

Have stayed here before. Was there j but standards not as high as previous stays. Staff are really good thoigh

The restaurant was closed so I had to walk around the local streets until I found somewhere, which was poor.
The breakfast was very poor in the hotel. I asked for scrambled egg and was served what looked like 2 poached eggs with hard yokes, chopped up on dry toast. I overheard a guest on another table say their sausages were cold.

Really great room for the price and breakfast was wonderful.

On arrival had to wait at the reception desk as the receptionist was “helping behind the bar”
Got to room and there were issue with broken toilet flush and dirty brown slime in the shower (just not cleaned)
When I went to ask for a change of room, I had to wait at the bar as the manager was “busy” after the lady behind the bar had heard what my issues were and spent a few minutes explaining them to the manager in her office… so I asked for the most complicated of drinks while I waited - lime and lemonade. I was asked if I actually wanted like in, and I was a little sarcastic in my “it wouldn’t be a lemon and lime drink without it” reply. Barmaid tutted and made reference to having to go get some more lime cordial from the cellar…( a whole 20 metres away) then on asking for £2.25, I presented a £5 note and was told “I don’t have change for that can you pay by card? 5 mins later she had “found someone and now had the change.
At this point, still no manager to discuss my needs and the issues with the room.
Eventually the general manager appeared, was initially quite defensive, but on my calm but serious comment that I had taken Photographs if she would like to see them and let’s go actually look at what I’m saying in the actual room” she backed down, went into full reverse and agreed to move rooms.
The new room was clean and as expected apart from there was no air-con or fan (and it was a heat wave outside)
Breakfast was ok.
I did receive a refund - eventually!

Although we had a deluxe double, it was a bit cramped. However, room was clean. Breakfast was quite limited - cereal was either special k or rice crispies, fruit was a few grapes and a small orange. If you want an egg, best ask before you take your pick of sausage, bacon, beans, tomatoes, hash browns and mushrooms or it'll be cold! Parking is free , 4pm to 10 am providing you can get a space up the road! Not worth the money staying here...

Room was a little cramped. Teaspoons were very dirty. Shower frame was grubby. No mattress protector.

A modern and very clean hotel. Very impressed and will definitely stay at again

Very clean, friendly service and friendly people very comfortable room. Desk in room was a nice touch. Quiet location. Breakfast was fine but one thing to improve would be to think about vegetarian guests. In the self service buffet hash browns and black pudding were being warmed in the same serving plate stacked up against each other so had to avoid those. We didn’t have any, but eggs were cooked to order which I thought was a nice touch.
Plus toast was made fresh without having to use those horrible self service toasters.
5 minutes walk to local town with a nice Italian restaurant/pubs. This hotel is near to the entrance to a lovely park. Car parking was ok but limited. Apparently there is a public car park about 50 meters up the road. Would stay again.

This is a well located pristine and comfortable hotel. The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. The room was comfortable, if a little warm (in the morning we discovered that we could have adjusted the heating). The breakfast was large and of good quality. The only gripe was that the receptionist told us that the bar would be open until 11pm but, when we walked in at 10pm, we were informed that they had just called last orders and that we couldn’t order a drink. This was resolved (we got as much drink as we wanted) but we had to ask to speak to the manager to secure this - without hesitation, he overturned the decision and kept the bar open.

Our room was great apart for it being above the kitchen and the extractor fans waking us up at 7.30! We went down for breakfast at 9.10am and we chose a table. At 9.30 the waitress took our order. At 10am we were served with our two coffee's. At 10.20am we left without any food (as had another couple) as there were 3 other tables before us that hadn't been severed yet! The young waitress was clearly doing the best she could being on her own and was very apologetic. Unfortunately there was no management overseeing or helping but one of the customers did! We would have mentioned this at the time or at checkout but there was nobody at reception.

Room was ok lots of cobwebs and dust on lapms, beds and bathroom were clean. However the very long wait for breakfast was ridiculous. Got in to breakfast room for 09.00....15 minutes later she gave us a menu....30 minutes later we finally got the drinks we ordered when we sat down. Finally after an hour and a half we get our breakfast. Most of which was luke warm, toast was burnt and the butter pot had been used by someone else and just topped up, bacon was over done and not as described and the hash browns were not homemade as described. Couldn't complain as didn't want to wait any longer as we had a train to catch.
