This is a very interesting house to stay in with lots of charm! Much more homey than a hotel. The parking is easy and convenient. I didn't go to Duluth to go out every night, but to relax and recharge. There was a lot of opportunity for that! The only downside is you can hear every time another guest comes into the house. It makes it hard to sleep before midnight or later. Just part of staying in an old house with two flights of creaky steps.

We stayed at this property many times in the past as a B&B and were always happy with the condition and cleanliness. This stay, not so much. The room was dusty, the floor had paint chips scattered on the floor in the window area, the trim on the skylight window looked like it was about to fall off, and the water from the bathroom sink was brown. The color of the water did clear after running for about 10 minutes. The bathroom sink also drains very slowly. All of these items were minor, but if a room has not been rented in a while, it might be good practice to do a quick check before it is occupied. A positive for our room….the bed was very comfortable!

This property was lovingly cared for, demonstrating good craftsmanship and tasteful detailing. It is located on a cul de sac, besides a stream. It is quiet. Even other guests and squeaky floors didn't disturb the peace, quiet, and serenity. Great neighborhood for walking around and viewing all the other mansions. Don't expect much in the way of breakfast and you will be very pleased with the accommodations.

We had a wonderful stay at the GG Barnum Mansion in the Jay Cooke suite. The room was large and the bed was ver comfortable. The large shower was a dream we appreciated the little extra touches, like information about restaurants, filled ice cube trays, water bottles and although we didn’t use it—there was even a bag of microwave popcorn for us! I would highly recommend a stay here if you’re in Duluth.
4.7
Extremely clean, beautiful, and unique experience. Would highly recommended.
4.7
The room should have a few more hooks in order to hang clothes, etc.

Overall we had a great visit! The room and house was very clean and we really enjoyed the sauna! Only issues were parking the first night (no spaces because a trailer was occupying one space) and there was no coffee and limited breakfast items when we came downstairs (we aren’t early morning risers!). Location was good. We drove up on our motorcycle and took a ride up the north shore. Beautiful!

My son and I picked this property for our stay while he attended a football camp at UMD. It was close to everything we were looking to do and see. The place was clean and beautiful. My only complaints would be that when I booked, I booked a room with a jetted tub as my son was prepping for the camp and wanted to soak. When we arrived, there was only a stand up shower in our room. Second complaint was that we did not recieve the check in codes prior to our arrival and we had to call a few times to get through to talk to someone about getting the codes. After the long 6-hour drive, it was sort of a pain to have to stand outside and wait for someone to a. answer the call and b. be told it was sent but never was, so I had to call back again. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique, clean and quiet place to stay.

The mansion was gorgeous and well cared for. Our room was comfortable.

This is an old mansion, so very unique with carved banisters and leather chairs. It also has very creaky floors. It is very quiet with no staff which is fine until you need them. The bed, a four poster, was lovely but I'm 5'9" and still needed a footstool to get in the thing. Over all a nice adventure. If you are into modern and having staff, this is not your place but if you want a unique experience that is quiet and out of the way then this place would be perfect.

The property is beautiful in a nice walking neighborhood. The house is amazing. Our room was nice with a comfortable bed and two cushy chairs for reading. Also had access to a rooftop seating area. Sadly, the bathroom looked very run down. The jetted tub didn’t work. The motor came on but it wouldn’t move the water. The drinking glasses were very water stained. In such a love place, that is something that is disappointing. Don’t count on breakfast if you plan to relax and sleep in. We got downstairs at 8 a.m. and there were 2 pieces of what looked like banana bread left. Not a big deal, we just went to a restaurant to eat. I would stay there again but choose a different room.

It was such a beautiful property! We loved it the only thing we were concerned about was the cleanliness of the roo. Urine in toilet, tooth paste in sink, conditioner on shower walls and a bit dusty!
The stay over all was so nice and we loved it!
4.7
The room was great. The sauna was a nice amenity. Unfortunately the coffee pot in the room didn’t have filters so we weren’t able to make more coffee I. The room. However, everything else was amazing. Would definitely stay there again!

Awesome, affordable. Very happy with my good luck choosing this place for a one night stay. Really a beautiful mix of old and modern.

Quite and cozy

Unlike any place I've ever stayed. I felt secure and had a great night's rest.

We will definitely be booking again!

Was not sure what to expect . But the room was amazing . We had a separate living room off from the bedroom . A fire place and jet tub . Nice and quiet .

Beautiful house and so much nicer than a boring bland hotel! Peaceful setting and beautiful neighborhood Loved my room. Will go back once I am in Duluth!

My wife and I were in Duluth for a couple of days and didn't want to do our regular thing, which is stay at a hotel. I was a tad nervous because of the reviews of our specific room (weird bathroom setup, etc), but now I realize some people just need to complain about something. :-)
This was a WONDERFUL place. It's a beautiful home, quiet neighborhood, and about 5-10 minutes from anything in Duluth.
Just note that there is no "staff" on duty. You get a code to get into both the house and your room. There is a phone number you can call if something is needed but we did not need to use it because everything in the room was pretty much perfect.
Will absolutely stay here again.

I loved this place. The only thing I would add is the cement steps to the front door are uneven and if you have any issues with balance or injury to be careful.
The house is beautiful, my room was exactly what I expected, and the staff I spoke with were wonderful. There is a fridge and microwave in the unit along with an ironing board and iron. On the main level, there is a toaster with the other accommodations they describe.
Very relaxing and in a quiet neighborhood. I would recommend GG Barnum at any time.

Gorgeous place and perfect for our getaway ❤️

Located in a beautiful neighborhood next to a creek. Nice extras, like a real coffee maker and Netflix. Lots of space and comfortable stuffed chairs to hang out in, outside of the rented room. I would come here again and recommend to others.

Beautiful property. Our room was super clean.
Breakfast no so good though.
Loved the sauna

Very nice place

The mansion was lovely and in a beautiful neighborhood. Location made it easy to visit family and friends. However, I would not choose to stay at this location again for a few different reasons.
First, when we arrived it was about 10 PM and it was positively pitch dark in the hallway in front of our room. So much so that we had to use flashlights in order to put in the code to get into our room. This felt extremely unwelcoming.
Then when we got in the room, we discovered that the bathroom was actually a Butler’s pantry that has been converted. The toilet was tucked under the pantry in such a way that you might hit your head and the sink was on the Butler’s counter with no mirror or good lighting in order to shave or apply make up. In addition, the beautiful shower that has been added does not close properly and thus water leaks out onto the floor.
The breakfast pastries were not worth eating and there were several mistakes in the welcome book and directions (it is on the right- not the left) that made me feel this place isn’t all that well cared for. It wasn’t worth the money.
4.7
Just a cool historical place to stay. Relaxing!
4.7
The room was very cozy and we enjoyed the fireplace and jet tub. It's a unique place to stay and conveniently located. What was highly disappointing was that it advertises coffee and pastries in the morning, however, on Saturday morning the pastries from the day before were what was sitting out and they were hard as a rock. We had looked forward to the idea of having pastries and coffee and staying in, and instead ended up having to go out to get breakfast. Also, the pillows were extremely hard and uncomfortable. Overall, I think it was too expensive for what is provided.
4.7
It was a very nice stay. I came in late both evenings and headed out early, so unfortunately I was able to use many of the amenities. The location was beautiful as was the home. Thank you!
4.7
Hands down the best experience I have ever had! The space was absolutely beautiful and incredibly clean, locks on both the main entrances and private rooms ensured safety, and the staff was incredible - they gave us a call at almost 10PM to help sort out a parking issue (their availability is listed as 8AM - 8PM so I was beyond impressed when they reached out!). Will definitely be returning in the future!
4.7
We were there at 4 pm. We had an early morning procedure. There was construction noise and loud boots upstairs until midnight.
4.7
The security locks were a pain in the ass. They do not work very well
4.7
A beautiful home with a clean comfortable room and amazing shared spaces- nice homemade pastries for breakfast.
4.7
We booked the Barnum Mansion for a spontaneous night away and it was anazing! The room was beautifully decorated, clean and felt like home. I also loved the porch feel and the dinning area.
4.7
Unique place to stay. Room was set up very well and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
4.7
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The only issue we had was getting hot water to run for the shower/tub.

video 📸 review 📷 can be found on my website toured the whole place when emptyish checked out the updates and maintenance procedures inspected features not standard in the past as well as now standard options enjoyed the different weather options and Will use their website next time 💕
4.7
Overall a very nice and private stay! The only slight issue we had was with the shower head. While trying to change the water function on the shower head, the whole thing came off but luckily it was easy to put back on!
4.7
We stayed for a long weekend and found the property beautiful, quiet and clean. There wasn’t really staff around but that was okay because everything seemed to be taken care of behind the scenes. The location was conveniently close to canal park and was simply beautiful. Definitely be staying there again.
