About this cabin rental
This is the cabin your grandfather stayed in when he came to Lake City.
First things first: If you are looking for suburb sterility, square corners and airtight climate control, we recommend you look at many of the other options available in Lake City. That said, if your idea of the mountains is to old-school percolate some coffee, fry some fish in cast iron, and relax in your dad's easy chair in front of an honest fire, this is the place for you. You can even chop firewood (if you want to). We aren't savages though. The house comes with Bluetooth speakers, Wi-Fi and a smart TV.
Constructed in 1946, this home is full of memories from the families who owned it since. Lots to admire on the walls, over the mantel and in the shelves. If you can handle some imperfect floors and a clawfoot tub with an iron curtain rod, you'll thrive here. You want to get away and we want to get you away, so we left this house as close to the original as possible. Welcome to the past!
This cabin sits just one block from the town park, local boutiques, and dining. It's hardly a five-minute walk to the local Brewery, and to the world class ice park. Lake City boasts Gold Metal Waters for your fly fishing desires, including guided trips, and is connected directly to the Alpine Loop, a fabulous and scenic 4x4 drive trip through the San Juan mountains. If you don't own a four-wheel drive vehicle, there are plenty of rental options right in town. Along the loop, you will pass Lake San Cristobal (located just a couple miles from town), the second largest natural lake in the state. Spend the day on a paddle board, boat, or fish from shore. Take a walk out to the island on the suspension bridge. In the winter, bring your ice skates, cross country skis, or fishing hut! Hinsdale County also contains five, fourteen-thousand-foot mountains for all your high elevation needs. At a population of just over 400 year-round residents, Lake City gives you small town vibes with all the modern amenities you want, and plenty to do for the whole family! Enjoy!

We so enjoyed our stay in the is adorable, nostalgic cabin. We loved the old, rustic decor and was so much fun staying here than in a hotel. Having our host, Svetlana across the street was great and she was so helpful and friendly and it was great meeting her.

A step back in time to simpler times. Very cool classic decorations make it really feel like going to grandpas cabin. Beds were nice. Sitting on front porch in the evenings was nice. Tv works with casting from iPad or iPhone. WiFi worked great. Shower is a tad short for 6 ft people but good water pressure and nice hot shower. Cool place in lake City. Very very close walk to the main downtown restaurants and shops. Sits right o. The corner before the businesses start. Second morning a Doe and her two fawn greeted me as I took out the trash.

The cabin was in a terrific location and every bit as vintage as advertised. We had trouble with the front door for our entire stay, which might be something for the host to look into. The decor was charming inside but there were some things that could use some love. A bathroom renovation would go a long way! Overall, this was a good spot to check out lake city. thanks!

We were there three nights and really enjoyed our stay. The only reason for the four stars was that two things could make the property so much more comfortable in the summer. The fans work well but we switched them from winter mode to summer so that they would move air. If there were a screen door on the back then you could have some air movement from the front door to the back door without letting bugs in. The other thing that would really help are some curtains along the west wall of the kitchen/dining area. The sun beating in there really made things heat up .We hung a bed sheet over the windows in the afternoon-made a huge difference. Curtains on that side could also help the refrigerator because the sun was making it run more than it should have. It's a wonderful location and it was comfortable to sit on the front porch and watch people go by. Very convenient to walking downtown to the shops and restaurants .Overall we enjoyed the quirkiness and quaintness of the place. It was very comfortable and we would definitely stay again!

We enjoyed our stay tremendously! The host was very attentive and responded to messages immediately, the cabin was spacious and the location was amazing. really enjoyed the rustic decor and the porch swing out front. You could hear the live music downtown and relax.

The property owner was ready available if you had any issues. Read the details in full to understand what you are getting. This is a very small town limited restaurant with limited hours (they like cash to avoid the 2% debit/credit fee )so will need to bring much of your own groceries. Everything you need to prepare a meal is there plus some. There are side by side that run the roads legally in this town if your not a fan of those the noice can be an issue. There are not corner store to run small toilets so bring your and don’t forget anything. Host had extra sheet and blankets even in the summer the temps can drop to the 50’s at night.

This property was undersold! We expected to rough it here, but we were delighted with the cabin's size, decor, and amenities. I could have sat on the porch swing all day long. We love Lake City, and we hope Grandpa's Fishing Cabin will be available again when we return.

This house needs a major renovation or should be demolished. It is a registered historical building in need of more than $100,000. in repairs.
The walls are falling inwards, the floors are sinking, and as I was staying there windows were falling out.

First, understand we were looking for a place to land between high mountain hiking excursions, nothing extravagant or luxurious. For what we required, this was perfect! Quaint, good basic accommodations; clean comfortable beds, quiet location in town with plenty of space! The bathroom sink and tub were a bit of a size challenge, but other than that, we really enjoyed this property and the flexibility and helpfulness of the owner. We'd stay here again if we return to the area!

My wife and I loved the cabin and it’s aesthetics. The weather was amazing, a welcomed relief from the 108 Texas heat. The only thing holding me back from giving it 5 stars is the online listing. The pin on the map makes it seem like the cabin is on the river when it is actually in town. The cabin no doubt played a huge role in making our Lake City trip a huge success. The location just a block from downtown made walking to the shops, dinner, the park and the arts and craft fair lovely. I would recommend that you come and enjoy this beautiful cabin!

Overall the cabin was a great find with little time to plan our trip. The cabin is definitely on the rustic side compared to other VRBOs we’ve stayed in around the area. No screens on the windows was a major downside as temps were in the 90s. Plus there was only 1 box fan in the house. That meant we weren’t able to keep the windows open during the day without bugs getting in. Location is great as it’s right down from down town.

Has everything you need for a few days stay. Very rustic and roomy with a comfortable bed. The bathroom could use upgrading, the shower was hard to use. In a great spot to walk to downtown. The yard could have been mowed or weedeated. I would bring a fan! Overall an ok place to stay.

The host lives across the street and came over to ensure everything was great, but the replies to my messages were slower than usual and some messages were never replied to. Great cabin with amazing location.

We enjoyed our 2 week stay visiting our daughter and family in Lake City all while taking a step back in time. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We loved the feel of days gone by and all of the antique decor. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare daily meals. We were greeted each evening by mule deer in the backyard. Svetlana was an attentive and wonderful host. We will stay again!!
