Superb olde worlde but excellent condition hotel
They needed to water the plants for the swimming pool

Clean bedding and towels, but this is expected.
Very, very dated hotel & facilities. When we arrived, reception took ages to get to us. The room was very dated and needs some investment. The floorboards creaked Inc the room above. The room was very warm, no air conditioning with an industrial fan outside the window that didn't stop until 1am.
The pillows were very uncomfortable, and the bedding was very heavy. The bathroom was functional, but the shower was a letdown.
Just stay somewhere else unless you're a fan of 70s kitch with dated furniture.

Perfect 3 night stay at this delightful property dating back to 1820 and featuring a gorgeous 1937 lift. Charming, traditional interior & spotlessly clean. The staff were helpful and the ambience was lovely. Breakfast was perfect and whilst we didn’t dine in it was lovely to walk past the restaurant and see a pianist playing to diners. Loved it here and would definitely return. Photo is of the view from my room
Not the fault of the property - the boy racers on the coastal road outside are noisy at night. However we bought ear plugs which helped!

Old and tired, noisy room from air conditioning unit. Dinning room staff were brilliant.

The location is lovely
The hotel itself is very old fashioned but that adds to its charm.
The staff were very friendly.
The pillows were different sizes and very hard which lead to a particularly uncomfortable nights sleep.
I would suggest this hotel is definitely for the older generation as the average age of the clientele was about 80.

known about this hotel for years and have stayed on many occasions
unfortunately the decor is beginning to fade

Staff very friendly good location. Opened the bar when we got back from the theatre and put more logs on the fire.
The bed was very uncomfortable and the room to hot even though there was no heating on.

decor was interesting but in places in need of a refurb.
The room was far too HOT 24.5C. No heating on. The bed was most uncomfortable and squeaked with every move. The pillows were awful. No energy saved. We had to try and open a window. it was difficult. when they say a small room, it was quite small but just okay. Would only stay again with a larger room. However, overall the hotel was very pleasant. Good food and pleasant staff.

The breakfast was very good. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The Hotel was certainly comfortable and clean, and it has an excellent location, convenient to Tor Abbey, the sea front, and the town, while at the same time being quiet and having spacious grounds.
The decor is impressive and fairly grand, but also somewhat dated, as are the fittings. It all seems well enough maintained, it is comfortable, and has the charm of an earlier era : so the styling is not modern, but it remains a very pleasant place to stay.

Everything was great.
The parking at near by beaches.Very expensive.

Beautiful location.. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Room attended daily. Plenty of parking.
Appreciate that style was of an older generation however room facilities were not adequate. I think as solo travellers we were placed in barely used rooms as saw in others during housekeeping that many were of a significantly higher standard. The bed and mattress was from 1970 along with the bed linen. The bathroom suite was damaged and obviously too old to replace as was.

well the bar and the main lounge was very and the very pretty
Well the bathroom was in of revamp that what let the down and that was same for my friend

Food was excellent, staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel could do with a little update, but overall a lovely place. Unfortunately, we had to check out early as we had personnel issues at home which was a shame.

The view
No weekend entertainment.pool could do with a clean on the bottom . doesn't really cater for disabled guests with mobility problems .could do with bigger lifts .and placing guests on lower levels closer to the lifts but staff were lovely and friendly and quite helpful ..

The breakfast staff were friendly and helpful.
The lady at the reception was very rude with us when we ask her were we can have breakfast next day and her attitude was not professional. The toilet sit had a stain and they come to clean it and he told me it's an old stain... Very poor breakfast, not many options. No mobile signal in the room. Everything in the room was so old and yellow. Overall the price was too high. Definitely we will not come again!!

top class service and amazing staff. I felt like I got to know the staff during my stay. Mr Rew was a real gentleman, the breakfast staff top class and Pat the cleaner was so kind and went to great length to get me a fan during the hot weather.

I left before breakfast

The dining room is the jewel in the crown of this hotel, opulent luxury and exceptional food.
The staff are a very close second, all really friendly and helpful.
The wifi doesn't work. This was very disappointing until I learnt how to use the personal hot spot on my mobile phone and then all was good again!

Location.
some old features in the building; old lift for example.
General cleanliness. Blankets use for bedding ( cleanliness of the items ??).
