10/10! This spot was perfect for our family trip with two little ones and the grandparents. The view is incredible. The water front is perfect for hanging and playing with the water with little ones. Our eldest, 3, enjoyed catching fish off the dock. Walking to NEOC for dinner and trails, brewery 10 minutes away, and just south of Baxter State Park he golden road network.

We’ve been vacationing in Maine for over 25 years. This is our second time at this property. Love everything about it!! Location is ideal, people are great, host is easily accessible, but everything is taken care of, so no need. Plenty of kayaks and canoes to use and a nice dock. Really couldn’t ask for more!! Dog friendly is also a huge plus!!

My family and I have been coming to Maine for years and have stayed on many lakes. This one was by far the most remote, and had the best views. The lake is very challenging for boating, many rocks all over the lake, but the caretaker Gene was amazing and gave us the path to stay safe. There is no marina on the lake so boat traffic is minimum.
The house is gorgeous and has everything you may need. However, I wish the listing specified that there is another house on the property and a shared dock. These 2 properties would be ideal if you have a large extended family and can coordinate renting both properties. It's listed as 4 bedrooms but 2 are on the loft (one is open to the rest of the house and the other walks out into that loft room). I wish there were more closet space and places to hang clothing. I also wish there were a fan in the 2 loft bedrooms to circulate air.
Mark was an awesome host, who very promptly answers all questions. I can't say enough good things about Gene the next door neighbor and caretaker. He is so kind and friendly. We loved being his neighbor for 2 weeks. We hope to be able to return sometime in the future.

I spent a good portion of a year preparing for this trip. The host Mark was wonderful with all my questions throughout the year and very patient and thorough. During our stay, it was comforting to have Gene, the caretaker next door with any questions also. The house is beautiful and Mark has thought of everything! There is not one thing that is lacking. My only suggestion is with the stairs inside. They are super loud going up and down in the night if you need to use the restroom. There is not a bathroom upstairs. If there is a way to quiet the stairs, that would be helpful. Also, they are a little slippery if you are in your sock feet. There are 2 canoes and about 4 kayaks onsite to use. I had that question, in case someone else did. I was disappointed to not see the sunset from the house or the northern lights, but that is no reflection on what can be controlled with the property. There is another property right next door that I was concerned about our families running into one another, but there were no issues and it surprisingly wasn't a problem. Thank you again Mark & Gene for making us feel welcome, comfortable, and like part of your family!

We stayed in the house for two full weeks in June 2024, the first week with our adult children and the second week just my wife and I. So we really got a feel for the place!
First, the basics: the house is very nice, clean, comfortable. Plenty of room for everyone, plenty of seating in the family room and around the huge kitchen island.
Second, the house has lots of little bonuses: great shower in master bath, huge laundry room, nice side screened-in porch to do some quiet reading, a gas grill steps outside the kitchen for cooking out.
Third, the location and views cannot be overstated. You are literally looking across the lake at Katahdy in all kinds of light and weather. The house is in a quiet location about a mile down a dirt road from the highway but amazingly, you are walking distance from a really great restaurant at the NEOC. And then just a few tenths of a mile up the hill to Knife Edge Brewing, and another good restaurant (Frederica's) five minutes away. And town isn't far for going to the grocery store. Baxter Park and lots of trails are also an easy drive.
Plenty to do around here. Great hikes, canoeing and kayaking on the lake (yes, the house has about six boats), being lazy on the dock, and there's a really great network (20+ miles) of mountain bike trails also suitable for trail running literally steps from the property.
The host was awesome. Extremely responsive and helpful, answered any questions, etc. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. The view is amazing. The home owner is very responsive and easy to communicate with. Lack of snow was disappointing for those who snowmobile but ice fishing right out the door was perfect. We would rent this house again.

Our group travels to this area every year for a snowmobile trip. We have stayed at other locations and have had a wonderful time. This property checked all the boxes for our group, for size, comfort, and activity. Because the snow conditions weren't as great as we had hoped for snowmobiling, we were still able to ride, but on the days when the temperatures weren't great for it, we were able to ice fish right from the property. We will be going back! The owner was very welcoming and responsive, and the caretaker was a super nice guy. Five stars all around! You will not be disappointed in this property if you stay!

A great secluded house in a beautiful setting. I hope to return in the summer to experience the lake when it isn’t frozen. The addition of Knife Edge Brewing just up the road is a great enhancer. Would absolutely return.

Beautiful views of Mt Katahdin and right on the lake. Wonderful neighbor, Gene, full of knowledge of the area, as he has lived in the area for over 80 years! He even had the outdoor fire pit all set up to just light and enjoy when we arrived, he made our trip :)

Our group very much enjoyed our short stay at the well appointed and cozy Bears Den Lodge. We had just a little bit of time to appreciate the spectacular views of Mount Katahdin across the waters of Lake Millinocket, and paddle the waters of the lake with the kayaks included with the rental, before clouds and a bit of rain moved in. Well, this is Maine after all.
We did pedal small sections of the mountain bike trail system that is practically right outside the door - really an amazing collection of trails, according to my much more experienced mountain bike friends.
Despite the turn in the weather we enjoyed a fire in the outside firepit, and delicious meals and good conversation around the expansive island seating counter in the kitchen.
We are already talking together about a return trip to actually make our way up to the Knife Edge. We'd love to come back.
