For those that truly want an immersive jungle experience this is it. Absolutely loved it all. Biggest undiscovered gem yet.
Leaving so soon was the only thing we didn't like

Trees around the property
Water leaking on to bed. Ants build home in the room. Mosquitoes.
No food access after breakfast.

It was quiet, peaceful and located in a gorgeous area. Many beautiful, secluded and safe beaches and hiking trails. The staff was so nice and welcoming. This is the place to relax and get in touch with nature.

Was really surprised from when we drove up to the parking lot, how beautiful and peaceful this place was. Felt secluded setback in the jungle. The garden, is beautifully maintained, with mature tall native trees and a lot of flowering plants throughout the property. We saw many species of birds early in the morning.
The location is excellent for exploring the coast. Its about 1 km from the main highway and 5 minutes from the beaches Matapalo, and Playa Linda which are the prettier beaches. Manuel Antonio is a 20 minute drive and Dominical 15 minutes.
Helene upgraded us to a beautiful Villa with kitchen, and a lovely patio. The villa is very large, clean, with private bedroom, new fans, and even an outdoor fan on the patio. Bathroom had lots of hot water. Towels were new.
The pool and deck, both new updated, had new lounge chairs, and a new Rancho where breakfast is served. We really enjoyed the pool area, its a very peaceful garden setting.
The property had many recent updates. Overall a great value. Was glad we discovered La Palapa lodge.

Size of rooms was lovely
Internet was iffy in places

We liked the somewhat remote location (not within the main beach towns) which was very secure and beautiful as the jungle location was undisturbed, very natural.
The kitchen could have had a bigger stove and refrigerator. A little more closet/ drawer space would have been nice too.

Loved the beautiful jungle setting. Rooms were very comfortable and spacious. Very nice breakfast and great coffee. Lovely waterfall a short hike from the property where you can jump into the water.
I chose the hotel because description said there was a restaurant at the property. I didn’t want to drive anywhere in the evening. However, only breakfast is provided.

There are mixed reviews for this property so let me try to explain what to expect.
The hotel will offer a very basic stay in the jungle which can be a great experience if that is what you are looking for. The owner is gradually investing in the property to bring the facilities up to standard but this will be a multi-year project at best. The location will allow for day trips to Manuel Antonio national park and Dominical, and you will wake up with jungle sounds or with a large gecko in the room, which happened to us.
We stayed in many ecolodges around the world both basic and luxury, and see two main issues with this property.
The first one is that the apartments/houses are dirty. It was not properly cleaned and sheets had stains on them and were ripped when we arrived. The maintenance backlog is not helping either. We stayed 3 nights and realize that it is an ecolodge so we were not expecting bedding and towels to be changed daily. But emptying garbage cans, sweeping the floor and making the beds are not eco unfriendly and important when it comes to hygiene in the jungle.
The second one is that this is listed as a 4-star hotel. This is not a luxury hotel, and should not qualify for four stars. There is no overall service, breakfast is basic, pool is cloudy, apartments are dirty and not well equipped (two plates, a fork, and 3 glasses for a apartment for 5 people). The maintenance backlog is simply too big. This is a 1 or 2 star at best.

Beautiful pool, gardens and room.
Our rolling luggage couldn’t roll on gravel. Hard to locate. The waterfall was far from the property, no parking nearby and was a river.

Jungle setting.
Staff could have been more friendly and attentive. I know one couple was left waiting for hours before there was anyone around to check them in.

The breakfast was good
There was many things wrong, the shower was broken, the room was not clean and then the water that they display for the people don’t even has clean glasses next to it. Overprice for what it is

The owner is extremely helpful and very lovely.
The fact that it’s in the middle of the jungle and you get to experience a jungle life

The gardens were beautiful, quiet overall, good breakfast.
Showers were cold only. My sister kept finding ants in her bed. The pool water was very cloudy.

The host is very characterful. We had some friends come into town without a hotel room and though the property was fully booked, she offered the option of our friends staying in our room at no additional fee which was helpful. Remote and quiet.
The property is showing its age and needs attention. Some reviews cite this as charm but to us it felt like neglect. The rooms are sparsely furnished with aging furniture and lit with very few and ugly flourescent lights. The bathroom had exposed wires. The sidewalks through the property are crumbling, unlit at night and unsafe. We had to help another guest off the ground who tripped on unmarked steps. The breakfast was $15 but was of quite low quality and quantity for the amount (expecially when compared to other stays we had). Workers were building a new structure around the pool. This of course is fine but perhaps hold off on cutting aluminum panels with an angle grinder literally 10 feet from the guests eating breakfast until service is over at 9.30. This example will be a one-off problem but the host literally couldn't talk to us due to the noise and just let the workers continue which to us seemed odd.

very much a jungle setting
rooms a little tired and needs more lighting at night

I loved sleeping in the middle of the jungle, listening to all the fauna, it was a lovely experience. Everybody was very kind and helpful, they assist me with everything I needed.
It is quite far from everything, you will need to have your own car or spend money on taxis, colectivos or buses, walking somewhere is not an option, too far.

Surrounding garden and architecture, nature trail through the land and LOTS of wildlife.
Slightly run down and a little unclean

Helen, the owner of the lodge is super nice & interested in her guests - also the area of the lodge is beautiful with a lot of great flowers. The breakfast was good as well & we got a very nice upgrade.
sadly the whole lodge is not at any state of the art anymore - from not enough kitchen material, to ripped towels, non working lightnings and a broke shower with no pressure at all - plus a pool which we had no desire to use.
a beautiful place which needs a lot of work and renovation to get „in shape“ again.

Rooms were very cool even though there was no AC - wasn't needed. Beautiful grounds, nice pool, good breakfast. Owner was very helpful and informative.
Hot shower wasn't hot.

It is very pretty and Helene is really nice. Breakfast is good.
The bed was uncomfortable, some of the lights didn't work, we found a cockroach in the closet, we didn't have hot water (they tried to fix it but never worked), and very bad wifi reception inside the cabin.

Wonderful and very well maintained garden surrounding the buildings. Very wide green area with a nice jungle trail to follow that brings to nice waterfall where you can swim.
The structure was very interesting: main building with leaves rooftop. Nice and warm swimming pool.
Peaceful and silent atmosfere, with only the sounds of the jungle
Helena, the owner, was very nice and caring, sharing with us several suggestions on places to visit
Great breakfast which included fresh fruit and butter with jam on top of the local one (Gallo pinto)
Very convenient place to stay if you are visiting Manuel Antonio and you have a car (25 mins by car) and you don't want to stay in very touristic and crowdy area
Our stay was simply great !

The property was extremely unique. Helene was amazing. I stayed here with my boys and they had THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES. They were surrounded by nature and loved it. We stayed 1 night… then came back and stayed a couple more nights because we loved it so much. Breakfast was delicious!

Absolutely awesome place. The resort is simply a piece of paradise, in breath taking setting, cozy picturesque rooms, smiling staff and owner who goes above and beyond to make your stay perfect.
We absolutely loved the place and its atmosphere.
I highly recommend it.

Excellent location, close to Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Playa Matapalo and Playa Linda that are great.
The rooms are inserted in the jungle, full o vegetation and birds. Nice pool and common space. Breakfast was very good.
The place is catching up for being closed during pandemic and is with being work to put it at 100%

Very beautiful, quiet place...we feel like we are in the midle of the jungle. The bungalow was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was really good. We also enjoyed morning swim in the pool:) Elen was super nice and helpful. Hope to come back again someday...

This was one of the best places we stayed in Costa Rica and I only wish we could’ve stayed longer! The bungalows were so wonderfully private and you really got the sense of being in the heart of the jungle, yet another beautiful garden of paradise!
