About this house rental
This home is great for digital nomads who love off-grid living, homesteading, camping, and glamping, AND also need some amenities for WFH life. We are designing this house with YOU in mind! Nestled in the countryside of Portland, Jamaica near the most beautiful beaches and waterfalls on the island, our sweet, peaceful home is still A WORK IN PROGRESS. We have been living in it throughout construction and continue to make improvements as we go along. You must enjoy living differently in nature.
The space:
Welcome to our modern oasis in nature - a place for the off-grid and homesteader's soul while also providing some comforts and amenities for the WFH life! We started construction in 2021 and have built out a very livable home. We continue to build out our dream of completing this home, building out additional guesthouses and a retreat center. Help us make our dream a reality!
Our home is quite unique for this area:
Built slightly up on a valley, we get a great breeze. The house can be quite comfortable with this breeze, especially on the balcony.
We have a view of the sea and the mountains without having to climb a big hill. The walk to the Main Street is flat. (this is truly unique in the area!)
The house is tucked away from the other houses in the area and is quiet both day and night and safe. Very peaceful and serene. And you can sometimes hear the waves from the sea.
The spacious property is filled with banana and plantain trees, aloe vera plants, papaya trees, cacao plants, sugar cane, coconut trees, a Jamaican apple tree, ackee trees, and pineapple plants. We farm pumpkin and callallou from time to time. Feel free to help yourself to anything that is in season!
The living and kitchen area is spacious and open concept with large windows and a large sliding glass door with direct view to the sea.. We are still furnishing this area, but it is fully functional. The bedroom is also spacious with a comfortable queen sized bed, lots of natural light, big windows, and a large sliding glass door with direct view to the sea. The bedroom also includes a walk-in closet.
If you would like to stay here with a third person, please inquire about an air bed for the living room!
You can access the balcony from both the living area and the bedroom.
Shower and bathroom are inside the building. We do use water from a pipe outside the building for washing dishes, rinsing off from the beach, washing hands, etc.
I (Amy) WFH and the wifi is strong. I do zoom calls and can have different applications open.
Washer/dryer combo is free for your use. NOTE: This will be ready by December. Please inquire if you plan to use it so we can give you the latest update!
IMPORTANT: If you have solid building, design, and construction experience and you would like to stay here, please message us as we might be able to agree to a different type of rate/exchange. Be prepared with a portfolio/pictures of your experience and design aesthetic. Once again, we have a vision for building out a retreat center and if you would like to be a part of that vision, please reach out as well!
Before we can accept your booking we want to make sure this beautiful, yet unique experience will meet your needs and be an enjoyable experience, so please send a message with questions and we can elaborate on a few things-to-note about your stay.
We live between NYC and Jamaica - two very different environments. If you are getting away from the cold for the winter or just enjoy getting away from city life, this is a great place to stay and live differently. If you enjoy off-grid living and homesteading this is a great place to experience. What we make from rentals continues to funnel into making improvements on the house.
We want you to be comfortable and enjoy your vacation or WFH-home! We are always available for anything you need. If the calendar is blocked off for the nights you want, please inquire!!
HOUSE RULES:
Smoking is allowed OUTSIDE ONLY. (Balcony is ok)
Damages to property, housewares, appliances will be charged for accordingly.
If we are able to accommodate you for a later check-out or earlier check-in we will be happy to do so! Just ask. :)
Please do not leave tables, chairs, even outside furniture outside. We do not want furniture damaged by sun or rain.
Tile in main areas is slippery when wet. Please be mindful of spills, dripping water from the bathroom or coming in from the beach. We are not responsible for injuries or damages.
IMPORTANT: Water can be scarce in the area; HOWEVER, we have a drum on top of the building to supply water at all times rather than depending on water from the main supply from the water company. This does require a water truck coming to refill every month. We provide the first drum of water (which usually lasts one month). Water from this point forward is paid for by the tenant. We will organize the truck to come for you - please give as much notice as possible when the water is starting to get low.
