Hotel is really well situated near bus stops for further afield and within walking distance of the castle etc.
Rooms were lovely - the gift basket with Irn Bru and Tunnocks, along with candy canes as its close to Christmas, was a lovely touch.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Pub next door is handy for breakfast. Can be a little rowdy at kicking out time, but that's to be expected and didn't offend us.
All in all a quirky little place but has absolutely everything you need.
I will definitely stay here again if I am ever in Edinburgh again

Grassmarket hotel is in a great location for sightseeing. With many sights within walking distance, you are well situated to explore Edinburgh on foot.
Right next door are some of the fancier "Harry Potter" shops as well as several cafes, restaurants and other sights.
The hotel itself is snuck in on the corner of a property, and part of the hotel is right on top of a pub. Good news if you're up for a pint, not so good news if quiet is a big priority for you. We spent two nights at the hotel for a family weekend, and we certainly had no problem sleeping.
Rooms are a bit worn, but were clean enough.
Bathroom privacy leaves something to be desired- the door hardly blocks noice at all.
Beds, linen and furniture all in good condition.
Staff are absolutely delightful. Helpful and attentive no matter the hour.
We were adviced that we'd have to hang a sign out for room cleaning, which we naturally forgot. To our delight we still found our room cleaned and towels changed when we returned from a day out.
Grassmarket is a good hotel if you don't mind a bit of noice (experienced city dwellers won't mind), want easy access to most of the sights in Edinburgh, or if you're after a bit of nightlife. Should be perfect if you're visiting friends at the university.

Excellent location opening right onto Grassmarket Square and easy access to all the attractions. Staff were wonderful, rooms were clean and modern. For a tourist, this is a great hotel to stay in (although no parking!). Would highly recommend!

The most comfortable beds! Wow...makes it hard to get up in the morning! Could well do with a much better door on the bathroom...one that seals the room. Privacy in the privy was very much compromised by the glass door.

Definitely not a 4 stars like they advertise maybe more like a 2ish-3 star, the rooms are ok not the cleanest but good, they didn't had extra blankets when we asked for one more to put in a window that didn't had black curtains and with the street light it felt like day light, it could be a little noisy been in the middle of the action but we didn't mind that, however the staff was very friendly, the location was unbeatable right on grassmarket and steps to the castle and the royal mile, but the breakfast at Biddy's took all the medals it was the best part of the stay. Overall it's a good place definitely worth it.

There was a wall on 3 sides of the bed. It was the smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. It was cute and comfy for my 7 year old daughter and I. She loved it, but my mom wouldn’t have liked it. We enjoyed our stay. The location was fantastic! We walked from train station and to the Royal Mile shopping and Castle. There was a fun outdoor market and the Hop On Hop Off Grassmarket stop right in front of hotel. The bar next door was super crowded so they brought the food into the hotel lobby for us to eat, which we had all to ourselves with booths and board games. There’s also lots of other restaurants around. They were friendly and the story about how small it was is fun.

The location is the best for strolling around the main spots of Edinburgh especially when you are planning a trip for Fringe Festival. It is safe, vibrant and I trust it is with the best location to access most of the shows during the Fringe Festival. All shows I attended are from 2-min to maximum 20 minutes walk! It is amazing.

If you like hearing loud music til 1am while you try to sleep, this is the place for you. If you don’t but want to stay here, be sure to ask to be placed higher up to avoid the noise.

Close to the Royal Mile/Edinburgh castle and not to be missed “Diagon Alley” shops on Victoria Street. Room was a little small but to be expected given city center location and they did a really nice job making the space as functional/comfortable as possible.
Fine for us, but note that the bathroom door was frosted glass and some people might not like that. Would say the vibe was casual hotel/upscale hostel. Staff were young/chill, friendly enough but not going out of their way to be welcoming/engaging.
Walk from Princes Street train was partially uphill and included a flight of stairs by Victoria Street.. manageable with our suitcases but would not have been good with kids or bigger suitcases.
Nice location to be close to the action on a short trip, but would probably opt for somewhere in the New City next time around. Coming from the states, was surprised that many shops/restaurants closed earlier than expected in Edinburgh. Something to keep in mind for planning meals and getting to eat at your preferred spot. Eating in Edinburgh was fun and more vegetarian-friendly than I expected. One of our favorite Edinburgh meals was lunch at a church basement right next to the intercontinental hotel!! Be sure to check it out if you’re looking for some thing simple and affordable.
Did not eat at the Grassmarket restaurant, but the menu looks good!!

We got there and were told they had to move us to another hotel because they had a plumbing issue- as we stood there, they checked in other people. I booked this 6 months ago! At least the other hotel was decent, but NOT in the same area. Very frustrating and upsetting after days of travel and only a short time in Edinburgh- they wasted our time that we could have been sightseeing.
