Spending two nights at Kananga Special Tented Camp was the most incredible experience. Waking up in the Serengeti and seeing the sun start to rise was so special. My daughter and I did a self drive and the tips given to us by the managers John Shana and Mohamed were very useful. All of our meals were prepared by Chef William with careful attention to our likes/allergies. Emanuel was our waiter who would even bring us tea after a days' drive so we could enjoy the view of the Serengeti from outside of our tent. Abel, Stephen, and Boniface were our room attendants. They brought us hot water for the shower system as well as in the morning to use in an outdoor water stand to wash our face. We both felt close to nature but extremely well taken care of; our car was even washed everyday! The tents are even more beautiful than in the pictures on this website. If you are looking for a tent experience, stay here. Most of the names of the staff I knew, but when I left, I asked the manager for the other names I couldn't remember because as a group this amazing team of people gave us a vacation to remember. I can't wait to return to this amazing place!!

1. The local Africans that work here are great - they were amazing guys that made my brief stay here tolerable. Thank you guys - you know I appreciated all you did.
2. Location - You're literally in the middle of the wild plains of the Serengeti - One night, several hyenas slept just outside my tent - little nerve racking, but that's the wild for you. 3. Service - The VIP tent was good but the food and service was outstanding considering where you are!!
Here are the problems:
1. Kananga is a Spanish owned camp & they subcontract out their drivers for both the local airport pick up and safari drives - The problem with this is they cannot handle issues related to pick up times that occurred with me - I was left at the local airport for FIVE HOURS!! Yes count that out 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5!!! This is because even though I called to confirm that morning when I was arriving - their driver didn't tell them that he had car issues and was four hours away...Crazy as this sounds - they had their local camp manager bring me lunch but not drive me to the camp merely 15K away because of the contract they have with the other company....OUTRAGEOUS!!
2. Because I arrived a few days later than my expected date - They wouldn't refund me the days I didn't stay...
3. Rudeness - I was in Africa for 8 weeks, and when I had to address some of my concerns with their Spanish office their representative, Julia who was actually Scottish, was down out rude to me...Worst PR...All in all forewarned...
