Nice basic room with refrig (that worked really well) and coffee maker. Nice setting in the woods. Small coffee bar/snack bar serving bagels, cinnamon buns, soda and juices and ice cream shop serving snacks, various tiypes of ice cream and services for playing mini golf. Open very early till relatively late so convenient to pick up breakfast or late night treat. Takes care of customers very well.
Just that the rooms were very basic.

They have a good coffee shop with fresh baked cinnamon rolls and maple bars. Pool and hot tub. Mini golf and huckleberry ice cream. Next door to cable car and close to hiking trails.

Location of chalet.
Rooms were small and the full size beds were uncomfortable. They should have provided queen size beds. Internet connection was horrible. Kitchen cabinets were cheap and did not close properly. Staff were not the friendliest.

The grounds are beautiful and the room was clean
The only complaint I had was the office smelled strongly of cigarette smoke . I don't mind one bit that people choose to smoke. I just am super sensitive to the smell and the smoke it's self, so it was definitely unpleasant. My room had a very weird smell too.

Great place to stay! They were super accommodating! And the rooms are well kept!

First off, the room was spacious (a double queen room). The room was clean but there were long black hairs in the shower and I have short grey hair. Lighting is good, heater worked well (but is loud) and it was easy to get the desired temperature in the room. Shower works well (excellent and quick hot water) but it has an old shower head. If someone above you takes a shower it sounds like the shower or fan in your room is on. The heat lamp control is outside the shower area and only lasts 15 minutes. You can hear conversations and TV next door as well so the sound proofing is not great. The TV is small, a very limited selection of stations and some stations were fuzzy. However, I don't stay at a property like this for the TV. I did bring a couple movies to watch as the TV had a DVD player. The internet worked well. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.
I arrived on Thanksgiving day. The property called me the day before to let me know that the office would be closed and what arrangements had been made so that I could get into my room. I appreciated the phone call and information.
The area is beautiful. The Chalets are just a few miles from town, just down the road from the Lake Wallowa State Park, and hiking trails are near by. All of the other attractions and activities are closed for the winter season.
The Eagle Cap Chalets has a lot to offer but again, most of it is closed for the winter season.
There is plenty of space to walk your dog. The dog fee was $40.00 for the chalet room (higher for the other accommodation options) which honestly is a bit high in my opinion. Especially in light of all the dog problems we had. I always appreciate dog-friendly businesses as that is who I travel with. In this case, I cannot recommend the Eagle Cap Chalets due to the problems that occurred with dogs being off-leash. It is an irresponsible dog owner issue and I am not sure what the property can do about it. It did negatively impact our stay.
It had snowed prior to our arrival so the driveway/parking area was very slippery and icy. I almost hit a big boulder trying to park when my 4-whlle drive SUV slid on the hill. The entire property is on a hill so you have no flat area to walk. The ice was difficult to navigate. The property did not put down any salt or sand. An employee told me that they often need to put on spikes (Yaktraxs) to get up and down the property. Be prepared if you stay during the winter months.
Tried to get ice for drinks on the second night but the guest ice machine was non-existent. It was missing from the location where the sign is. The office has limited hours-I suppose since it is in the off-season (except that they had good occupancy when we were there). If you need something, or want to check out a video, you are out of luck.
Parking is difficult...even without the ice.
The biggest problem were dogs. On our first evening we went outside at dusk for a short walk. An off-leash dog charged at us. It stopped and then advanced aggressively again. I hollered at the owner, who was just watching the whole thing, to call off her dog as mine is not friendly. Only then did she call her dog back. Upon returning to our room I discovered that the guests next door had left their dog alone in the room. It barked non-stop for 90 minutes. I tried calling the office number, and the operator, off and on with no luck. Finally at 90 minutes I got ahold of someone who stated they would contact the guest.
All in all, we had four encounters with off-leash dogs and in two cases there were no owners around at all...they had simply let their dogs out of their cabins. Plus, a house behind the condos were letting their dogs outside off-leash (playing fetch and pottying). It made for a dangerous situation for my dog who is reactive due to being attacked in the past. We could not enjoy walks outside and had to leave the property just to find a safe place to walk.
