We had a lovely few days in this picturesque village. Wivenhoe is very well served by trains to the various east coast Essex seaside resorts as well as a regular service to Colchester, Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street. There are also some lovely, relaxing walks along the river Colne and the local Syrian cafe serves excellent food. The cottage is warm and quaint and Penny very kindly left us plenty of provisions for our 4 day stay, for which we were very grateful. Thank you.

I was not staying in the cottage, it is close to where I live and I booked it for my son and his family to stay in because I did not have anough space for them to stay with me. They had stayed there before and were satisfied then and were again this time.

My son's Visit
I did not stay in the cottage, although I did go inside more than once. My son his partner and their small daughter stayed there when they came to visit us as we live in the next road but have not enough room for them all to stay here. They were very happy with their visit and have booked to come back in July.

Unique little cottage in ideal location
Husband and I plus dog stayed for a week. Everything clean and provided for a weeks stay. Comfortable bed. Although near station very little noise from trains. Weather was perfect for our stay so garden was ideal for us and the dog. Glad we paid for parking permit. Managed to park opposite the cottage all the time we were there. Bed settee in living room not comfortable for sitting on. Black Buoy pub excellent for food and drink. Great walks in both directions along the river Colne.

Wivenhoe Good for Dog Walks
Enjoyed our stay especially sitting in front of the log fire on returning from a long walk with our dog. Property is centrally located, local pubs dog friendly. Would have preferred a firmer mattress but slept well nonetheless.

Wivenhoe West Street
Quite small but adequate for two. Very close to the riverside and all the village facilities. It's also only a stone's throw from the railway station, which makes it easy to visit nearby towns without the hassle of traffic jams.

Perfect getaway
This property is as described. It’s quirky, unique and rustic. It was larger than I expected with a glorious sun trap garden. On arrival the windows were open allowing plenty of fresh air in and the place was very clean. The location was perfect for us. The car didn’t move from directly opposite the house for the entire week. We walked both ways along the river bank even reaching Brightlingsea and caught buses and trains to reach other walks and days away. Although close to the railway station we didn’t hear the trains through the night even though the hot weather meant the windows were wide open. In fact it was very quiet through the nights, not even sea gulls squawking in the mornings like home. All in all it was a very relaxing stay.

Lovely cottage in a perfect location
This is the perfect place to relax & enjoy a quiet weekend away. We loved the fact that we could walk out with the dog in both directions along some beautiful walks either to colchester or Brightlingsea, then head back for a meal or drink at one of the local pubs(would recommend the Black buoy).
Slept well. didnt hear trains at all, very comfortable bed. An added bonus was the breakfast stuff provided..thank you

Quirky traditional cottage
Small but plenty of room for two. It's an old place with associated features, and the price reflects the size and age. Large garden, great position for walking to all amenities. Tapas bar good, pubs indifferent. Italian still closed. Couple of sun loungers would be great addition!

Staying in Wivenhoe.
Pretty olde world cottage on a very quiet street,(except for the trains!), within yards of the river. Local shops within walking distance. 100 yards from station. Pub at end of street. Plenty of walks along river/estuary.

Comfy, but small, [as we knew] place to stay.Very good location for quay area of Wivenhoe, quaint and interesting.Good to be able to park across the road. If anything too warm, the central heating was running in the night, the boiler in the small bedroom can disturb anyone there. so we turned the thermostat off at bedtime.Lovely breakfast bits and pieces.

The property is 300 years old so it's never going to be absolutely mint. However it has everything you need for a break away, excellent location, lovely little private garden, great local pubs and rail links.
The owner was very helpful and made the run upto our break stress free. The property is also dog friendly which was a bonus for us.
