Description
From the moment you walk in to a wall of westerly facing windows full of afternoon sun and a Great Room with a 32ft ceiling, it is relax time. Comfortably furnished and well appointed with all the touches of home, you have multiple ways to relax indoors or out. You can flop down on either of the overstuffed club chairs or couch and put your feet up on an ottoman, go upstairs to the balcony and curl up with a book, retreat to your bedroom and take a nap on a firm but plush mattress, sit on the deck and watch as the sun dips into the trees, or bird watch at one of the feeders.
First floor:
The entire 1st floor is an open floor plan designed for family living and friend getaways, entertaining and free flow of movement. There is streaming natural light with a West-facing Great Room and dining area, hardwood floors in all the common areas and hallways, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and a walk thru kitchen with stainless steel Bosch and Frigidaire appliances, gas range and granite countertops. The dining area has a large farm table that seats 10 very comfortably (with 12 total spindle-back chairs, for extra guests) and a breakfast bar that has three swivel stools. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor: a bunk room with 2 solid-wood, sturdy, twin bunk beds that sleep 4 (kids much more comfortably but absolutely can fit adults); and a queen room with a sleigh bed and a dressing table (made by Chip’s grandfather). These bedrooms share a large full bathroom and there is a powder room down the hall. All of the bedrooms are carpeted.
Second floor:
When you climb the extra-wide staircase to the 2nd floor, you are treated to a view overlooking the first floor, the soaring timber ceilings and a loft-style common area. You can relax on the sofa or in an overstuffed beanbag, challenge your housemate to a game of foosball on our full size table, listen to music via Alexa on Harmon Kardon speakers, or choose from any variety of puzzles and boardgames. On the north side of the house are two spacious bedrooms with a full bath between them. One bedroom has a queen sleigh bed with a west facing view over the large deck and backyard, and a true old-fashioned wicker rocking chair. The second bedroom has two twin beds with an easterly exposure looking out over the wildflower garden. On the entire South side of the house on the second floor is the master suite. This is a breathtaking room with a cathedral ceiling, a cozy sitting area furnished with club chairs and settee, an ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a gorgeous claw foot tub, and a walk in closet with plenty of space.
Amenities and Decor:
The house is well appointed throughout, with a mixture of mid- and late-19th century antiques and contemporary furniture. Behind the closed panels next to the fireplace you will find a 55” 4K SmartTV, fully equipped with cable, 4K Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu, Max and AmazonPrime video. The kitchen and pantry have everything you need to make a dinner for 2 or 12, from spices and baking needs to blenders and serving platters. Additional amenities include: Pillow-top mattresses, down-alternative comforters, pillows, 100% cotton sheets and duvets (flannel for winter!), hair dryers, towels, washer/dryer, dishwasher, Braun coffee brewer, coffee press, Keurig coffee maker, toaster oven, food processor, pots, pans, slow cooker, blender, baking and serving dishes, knives and utensils. The basement also has a Peloton, a rower and space for the kids to watch TV and play games. Basic spices and baking ingredients are available, as well as condiments (tho many prefer to buy their own). Iron/Ironing board; mudroom; 400mbs wi-fi for multiple workers to stream simultaneously, smart TV, Alexa and speakers; apple TV, foosball; board games.
Property: 2+ acres, well set back from the road, huge yard and back deck to play, grill, or sit around a fire pit. 12 Adirondack chairs, 4 loungers for sunbathing, organic vegetable garden for use of fresh produce — we trade free veggies for weeding and watering. :-)
Location and things to do:
For Spring, Summer and Fall: 5 mins to laurel lake, 15 mins to the Appalachian Trail access, Hiking, fishing, biking, water sports, golfing and other outdoor activities abound! 10 minutes to Tanglewood and Berkshire Theater Company, less than 10 minutes to Lee, Lenox and Stockbridge for antiquing, fabulous dining, and more New England charm.
For the diehard skier, we are a 15 minutes from Butternut and Bosquet, 20 minutes to Otis Ridge (nighttime skiing!), 30 minutes from Catamount and 40mins from Jiminy Peak. In one 3-night stay, you could ski 5 mountains! There is also plenty of wide open space nearby to cross country ski and snowshoe, for those intrepid explorers.

I can't say enough good things about this rental. The photos don't do it justice. I was worriedly expecting something dark and rustic because of all the wood. Well the entryway and the whole downstairs is so wide open and expansive, and the wood is lighter than the photos seem, and with windows all along the far wall, all you can say (as my husband did, since he got there first) is "this place is REALLY nice." It is also very large, with lots of room to spread out and not be on top of each other. I was also surprised (again, after the "rustic" photos) that it is quite recent construction.
The owner apparently does whatever you may need to be comfortable. I asked if any of the bedrooms had black out shades, and they brought in light blocking curtains for me to put up. Excellent!
It is all so well appointed; the tp is Charmin, the Keurig pods are Starbucks, the body wash is shea butter. The fridge has a good icemaker and filtered water dispenser. Most importantly - especially given the heat this summer - is that the a/c is great. Quiet, responsive, cool. My only (very slight) quibble is I wouldn't have minded softer sheets, but no worries. The towels were nice and thick and plush.
I don't like to give reviews when I love a place because if I'm coming back, I don't want to help make it in-demand, or drive the prices up. But in this case, we probably won't be in this area with the whole family anytime soon, so here you are. I'd definitely stay here again if I had the chance!

Our family stayed at Chip's house for some leaf peeping and togetherness and his house did not disappoint. It had a beautiful property outside backing up to some beautiful mature looking trees. The house was so comfortable, clean and thoughtfully decorated and stocked. Thank you Chip for sharing your beautiful home with our family!

Cannot say enough great things about this property. The location of it was so central, felt like we could get to everything we had planned in 15 minutes or less. The house itself was perfect for our large group of 6 adults and 3 kids. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and the living spaces were nice and open. The house itself has stocked with so many games, toys, outdoor toys and kitchen supplies it really had everything we needed. The hosts were so accomodating and helpful, I think the best hosts I've ever worked with on vrbo!!

This was our 3rd annual weekend trip and overall, best location, property, and communication. House and yard in excellent condition. Beds were very comfortable, stacked firewood, more than enough room for 10 guys. Again, communication was great, with almost immediate responses to general questions we had during stay. Would recommend to anyone.

This is a fantastic vacation house! Our family has stayed here before, and it never disappoints. The hosts are easy to contact; the house is beautiful, well-appointed, and extremely clean. The kitchen is great for preparing family meals, and the set-back from the street was great for the many kids in our group. The house is serene and calm, and I always return to my work and life feeling refreshed after a few days in the Berkshires.

Couldn't be Better!
We were a family of three generations ages 11 to 77. The house and the location were perfect in every way. Everything was spotless when we arrived; the kitchen was very, very well equipped; and there were loads of indoor and outdoor games for children of all ages. The fire pit was a huge hit. Chip and Kim certainly know how to do this. You will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay at this property! Everything was so clean and the queen mattress in one of the bedrooms was so much more comfortable than my own mattress at home that I had to check to see the name so I can purchase it myself!
Chip and Kim were great hosts- they responded quickly to any question. The pictures do not do this home justice! I highly recommend a stay at this beautiful, quiet property!

We just loved playing games by the big stone fireplace with a roaring fire inside or at the big charming dinning room table. We wanted to snowshoe but sadly there wasn’t enough snow but that was ok! Well appointed kitchen and owner was responsive when needed. We’ll be back!

We were looking for a special destination to celebrate my 50th birthday, and Chip and Kim's house was the perfect choice. We had three families coming together-- 6 adults and 4 kids ranging from age 3 to age 12. The space is both beautiful and comfortable, very spacious but also cozy, and stocked with things to entertain children and adults alike (the foosball table was a big hit with all!). We were able to eat together at the large indoor table and also at the outdoor table, which has a large umbrella. The backyard is huge-- so much room for the kids to run around and play lawn games, and for the adults to relax in the Adirondack chairs and lounge chaises, which can also be pulled up by the fire pit. The house is also incredibly well appointed, with everything we could have possibly needed for our stay, from pantry staples and spices, to a great supply of food containers for packing a picnic or storing leftovers, to shampoo, conditioner and soap in every bathroom. Chip was a pleasure to communicate with, both super-responsive to my many questions and also proactive in terms of checking in to make sure we'd gotten in ok. He was easily reachable by text with questions during our stay, and it was clear how much he wanted us to enjoy our experience there. It was just the right amount of attentiveness.
The house is also in a great location, with so many interesting cultural attractions , lakes for swimming, places to hike, and great restaurants to eat at. We were able to fit in so many activities without the schedule feeling packed because it was easy to return to the house and enjoy some downtime between activities.
As beautiful as the house looks from the pictures, it's even better in person. The whole space was immaculate, the beds and sheets and ample towels were very comfortable, and everything is labelled so that it's easy to use the house and find exactly what you need. I can't recommend the house highly enough. We will definitely return! Thank you Chip and Kim!

Family Gathering
The house was perfect for out group of ten - me, my wife, our 2 sons with their wives and our 4 grandchildren. The large center room became toddler play central and we all fit the dining room table. The 3 main bedrooms each had a full bath and there were other rooms for the kids. The location was great - lots to do. We had a great week.

We had a wonderful experience. Not a single criticism - everything was splendid: from a cozy but spacious house to clear and friendly communication with the host. We weren’t very lucky with the weather this time - so the time we spent in the house with our family and close friends was extra special. The house had absolutely everything we needed. Lots of things to do in the area. Definitely highly recommend this property and the hosts.
