FAQ's...
• Is your cabin in The Smoky Mountains or The Blue Ridge Mountains and what is the difference anyway? The answer is 'yes' to both. In fact, you can throw in The Appalachian Mountains as well. First, before we get started on the technical stuff you should know that for most people in this part of the country ‘The Smoky Mountains’ and ‘The Blue Ridge Mountains’ are interchangeable terms… for the most part. Now the technical part: looking at the big picture, The Appalachian Mountain Range is the big boy. It runs from upstate New York (well, actually into Canada) all the way down to central Alabama. Yes, Birmingham, AL is located in the southern extremes of the Appalachian Mtn. Range as are the Adirondack Mtns in upstate New York. Next, you have The Blue Ridge Mountains which are a sub-set of The Appalachian Mountain Range. The Blue Ridge Mountain Range extends 550 miles southwest from southern Pennsylvania through Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Then, smack in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range you have a smaller sub-division called The Smoky Mountains. The Smoky Mountains are centered right where The Park is – straddling the border of (western) North Carolina and (eastern) Tennessee. In fact, The Park is pretty much cut in half by the state line between the two with equal parts in each state. The Park is very large (The Park encompasses 522,419 acres or 816.28 sq. miles.) and it is also the most visited National Park in the US. It dominates the region. So, The Smoky Mountains are part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range and both are part of The Appalachian Mountain Range.
• How close is your cabin to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP)? Well, you can see GSMNP from our cabin (the mountains in the distance are IN The Park) and, as the crow flies we are about four miles due south of GSMNP (the only thing between us and GSMNP is Lake Fontana – the north shore of Lake Fontana is part of The Park. However, the nearest entrance to The Park is in Cherokee, NC (on the other side of Bryson City). Since Bryson City is about 15 to 20 minutes from the Park entrance in Cherokee and since our cabin is 15 minutes due west of Bryson City it’s fair to estimate about a 30-35 minute drive to the [southern] entrance of The Park from our cabin.
• How close is your cabin to The Appalachian Trail and how do I get there? First, for those that don’t know, The Appalachian Trail (or 'The AT') is a 2,175-mile (3,500 km) hiking trail that runs all the way from Mount Katahdin (Maine) to Springer Mountain (Georgia). The AT passes through a large part of the Appalachian Mountain system (including Great Smoky Mts Natl Park). Hiking on part of The AT is definitely on the To Do List for many people that come to this part of the country. ‘Hiking The Trail’ (as in ALL of it) is a major accomplishment. In fact, for avid hikers it’s the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest. So, back to the question… as the crow flies we are just at 3 miles from The Trail. In fact, that point of The AT that is closest to us happens to be an access point to the Trail (there is parking there). Even better, that access point is at a very convenient (easy to find) location – basically at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) in Nantahala Gorge on Hwy 19. It is 14 minutes (by car) from our front door to the NOC.
o Can you reach The AT from the cabin on foot? In theory, yes. There is a National Forest Service 'trail' that starts about 100 yards from our cabin and it connects with The AT. However, that Forrest Service Trail is not maintained [at all] and in spots you would have to do a little mountaineering. I would HIGHLY suggest parking at the NOC and starting there.
o Here is a link to an online map of The Appalachian Trail… https://nps.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6298c848ba2a490588b7f6d25453e4e0
• How close is your cabin to the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) and the other river rafting and kayaking outfitters on the Nantahala River. As mentioned earlier, the NOC is about a 14 minute drive from the cabin. Some river outfitters are a little closer and some further. All are about 12 to 16 minutes away.
• How close is your cabin to The Blue Ridge Parkway and how do I get there? Again, for those that don’t know, The Blue Ridge Parkway ('The Parkway') is America's longest linear park. It runs for 469 miles (755 km) through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties, linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a scenic drive that runs mostly along the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range. While The Appalachian Trail is not for everyone (not everyone is up to it) The Parkway IS for everyone. It is stunning and has some of highest and most scenic views on in the eastern half of America. If there is one thing every visitor to this area should do it is to drive a section of The Parkway. Now, back to the question… how close is the cabin to The Parkway? Since you reach the entrance (the actual southern starting point of The Parkway) in Cherokee, NC (just before you reach the entrance to The Park) the answer is, again, about 30 to 35 minutes. If you are thinking about doing a day trip to the Biltmore (Asheville) The Parkway will take you straight there. It will take longer than taking Hwy 74 (about 2 hours versus 1 hour and 15 minutes on the highway) but it is a much prettier drive.

We planned a last minute trip with our girls to spend quality time with them before they start school. The cabin was amazing and had beautiful views. Getting up the mountain was easy, because the roads were paved. There was normal good cable and smart tvs. Robert was a great host and always available. His directions and restaurants and suggestions on activities was awesome.
This is a fabulous cabin with a great host. Beds and pillows are comfortable, showers are great, kitchen is open and spacious.

Oh my goodness! My family and I loved our stay. The property owner was active in the process, which was very helpful. The property was true to the listing and very clean. The pride of ownership was obvious. The WiFi worked perfectly, which was helpful for our children. There was plenty of room for the five of us. The walk-out basement was perfect for the kids. There were a few goodies when we arrived, an extra bonus. We can't say enough about how wonderful this property was for our vacation. We will definitely stay here again the next time we vacation in the area.

When we first arrived, we all just kept saying "WOW!" The pictures just dont do it justice. The beds were really comfy. The kitchen had all the necessary pots, pans, eating utensils, plates, cups, etc. The hot tub was fantastic and we taught our kids how to play pool on pool table and they loved it.
There's so much to do and see. I wish we had more time.
The owner, Robert, gave us so much information and very communicative during the whole thing.
I definitely recommend that you arrive before dark. I dont think we would have found it in the dark.
We actually saw a bear the first night we were here. We were sitting out on the deck enjoying the wonderful summer night when we heard rustling in the bushes and then he/she came out into the clearing.
Look no further if you want a fantastic cabin retreat!

My family and I (along with our golden retriever furbaby!) recently stayed at this gorgeous cabin and had an incredible time - from our visit to the Great Smokey Mountains Park, exploring Bryson City and Highlands to relaxing at the cabin during a thunderstorm, our trip was the perfect balance of adventure, fun, and relaxation! From sunrise to sunset, I can’t say enough about the gorgeous views from this cabin. They’re truly some of the most beautiful I’ve seen. The cabin itself is impeccably decorated and cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen, two living rooms, separated beds & baths for the two girls, as well as an amazing master suite with a bed I could barely get out of! Robert, our host, was incredibly helpful, offering several suggestions and recommendations. We had zero problems finding the cabin, checking in and even sent him a picture of our sweet golden enjoying the huge comfy dog bed. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the gorgeous cabin, its views, and fun day trips. We really hope to be back earlier in the year when we can take advantage of the colder (tubing! skiing!) activities!
Thank you so much, Robert!

We had a great stay in December - sunrise over the lake is amazing, as are the mountain views. The cabin is comfortable, looks just like the pictures, and has two big living areas with fireplaces for people to spread out. Robert was very helpful and easy to deal with, even sent a long list of favorite activities and restaurants. Just a short drive to Bryson City, Smoky Mountain National Park, and other attractions in the region. We would definitely come back. Note: you have to climb a steep & narrow road to get these views; the road is paved and well maintained but easier to navigate the first time if you arrive while it is light.

Our stay here was absolutely amazing. The views were the best we have ever had and we’ve been coming to the mountains since 1997. The house was immaculate and felt like home. Robert was excellent to work with! We had everything we needed there and couldn’t have asked for anything else. The beautiful Christmas tree was perfect for our first trip away from home for Christmas

This is one of the best properties on VRBO. Both the structure and location leave nothing to be desired.
As for the cabin itself, it has every amenity one could need and is the definition of comfortable. It is spacious enough for a group yet the layout nevertheless lends itself to that cozy cabin feeling. And the view, whether night or day, is stunning.
But what really made this a 5-star trip was the host, Robert. From start to finish Robert made himself available to answer any questions and assist with any logistical concerns (i.e., activities, directions, recommendations). We arrived after sunset and were pleasantly surprised that the lights and heater were on which made settling in a breeze. The fact that Christmas decorations were already set up added all the more to an already wonderful stay. Robert was reachable if we needed him and gave us space if we were busy exploring the area.
At bottom, his attention to detail and friendly demeanor--coupled with the fantastic property itself--ensure this will be a repeat destination.

You will not be disappointed with this rental. Robert was a great host and available if needed. Very friendly. This mountain home is beautifully decorated and very clean. Arrive before dark if possible. The road leading to the home is all paved. It is narrow but very manageable. There are homes around but not close and you are in a very private setting. Kitchen has all you need to prepare a great meal. The home is immaculate and every detail thought of. This is a pet friendly home. Doggy station with bags even available outside for use. Pool table downstairs was fun. We could not use the fire pit due to a burn ban during out stay but it is a nice fire pit with seating. Robert recommended Haywood Smokehouse Dillsboro which is a short drive and it was the best BBQ and Brisket. Pecan pie did not disappoint! This host goes out of his way to make sure you have the most enjoyable time and provides a great recommendations book with all local attractions and restaurant suggestions. Photos are accurate. Would definitely stay here again!

My family frequently visits the Bryson area and decided to come back for a second time this year to celebrate my moms 60th. It was a fantastic cabin, very clean, amazing view, and communicative host. We were close to the NOC and downtown Bryson making getting out to do things simple. The entire road is paved which was also nice traveling up the mountain. I would HIGHLY recommend this property and look forward to coming back again. Thanks for a wonderful time Robert and family!

The view of the mountains in the distance and seeing the sun rising over the mountains in the morning was beautiful. The location of the cabin was ideal for short trips and for longer day trips to surrounding areas. The accommodations in the cabin were great with plenty of cooking items and entertainment. Our family would come here again without hesitation.

The cabin had everything we needed to be comfortable along with the bonus of a brand new hot tub, nice fire pit, pool table, and chairs galore in any area you might like to relax. The view was mesmerizing any time of day or night and rain or shine. The owner was not only easy to communicate with but he provided a list of recommended activities, eating, shopping and quickly answered any questions I had. I really lucked out finding this cabin which was close enough to everything to be convenient and far enough away to feel you had escaped into nature.

This has been by far the best VRBO I have found! The location is near to gas stations, grocery stores, Bryson City and plenty of outdoor activities, yet has a very secluded feel to it. The property is perfect, there is nothing negative to comment on. I hope to return some day.

The four of us enjoyed the awesome views and great house over the holiday weekend. Everything was super-clean, well-stocked and organized. Beds were comfy, plenty of chairs on the deck to enjoy the views, and we had everything we needed. It was nice having two living areas and the views from the living room downstairs were just as good as the ones upstairs, which was amazing. Robert was helpful, friendly and responsive to all questions. Lots of special touches at the cabin to make us feel welcome. Two of us were on motorcycles and really enjoyed using this as a base to ride and explore. The approach to the house is very easy. Definitely recommend and would return!

Everything is as advertised except the view. They should have hired a poet to decribe the constantly changing beauty of the mountains. ...get up early for some of the best sun (and moon) rises you'll ever see!

We had the most amazing experience from the very start. Robert reached out ahead of time and addressed any questions we had. When we arrived at the cabin (which was immaculate) the rooms were all softly lit and it had such a welcoming atmosphere. The cabin itself is gorgeous and had the most beautiful views. Robert had reached out just prior to our trip as well to help with any last minute questions and tips. He was very responsive during our trip (we had one small question that came up). We would come back here again in a heartbeat. We had a wonderful vacation week - gorgeous area of NC and gorgeous cabin. Thank you, Robert!!

We are regular vacationers in this part of NC, and this mountain top cabin has one of the best views we've ever seen. The home is spacious and has everything you need to be comfortable and entertained. Host Robert is very thorough and responsive in his communications. The location is ideal to the Tsali recreational area where we like to trail run and mountain bike; to Bryson City for groceries and dining; Nantahala Outdoor Center for activities, shopping and River's End Restaurant; and trailhead to Appalachian Trail. It was also a great base camp for a day trip to Dollywood. We had a wonderful spring break here!

Beautiful cabin with plenty of space for everyone. If the view is not enough to entertain you, the pool table, fire pit, hot tub and games will surely keep you happy! Drive up is a good hill, but easily managable. Cabin was immaculate.

What you see online is what you get….but so much better! The views are absolutely breathtaking. Beds are super comfortable. The feel of the entire cabin is amazing. It’s exactly what we needed and wanted. Robert is so helpful and kind and immediately answered anytime we reached out with questions of any kind. He was great at giving us details of just about everything. The space throughout the cabin was perfect. Exactly what Robert told us it was. This place is absolutely worth coming back to! Highly recommend it for anyone who really wants to be up in the mountains and wake up to the kind of views you can’t put a $ on!

Really nice cabin, gorgeous views! The neighborhood was gated and felt very safe and secure while still managing to feel secluded enough to enjoy peace at the cabin. Owners were very nice and attentive. We had a wonderful time here. Plenty to do for the whole family!

Our experience was best summarized by a resounding "WOW". From the moment we arrived, we were met with epic scenery, majestic mountains and a winter wonderland! The cabin is warm, cozy and filled with the ingredients to create a vacation with memories to last a lifetime. My wife and kids especially loved the views for miles away! The cabin was clean, spacious and filled with comfortable beds, warm fireplaces and all the amenities to feel like you did not need to leave, to feel the North Carolina beauty! Traveling into Sylva, Bryson City, my family felt we were in a Hallmark movie. Smiles galore were just what we needed to bond together, spend time around tge fire pit making S'mores, relaxing in the hot tub and cooking from a well stocked kitchen. My family and I loved the views from the living room, seeing snow and taking walks down the mountain were especially breathtaking! Driving down the mountain was easy with no issues whatsoever, as we previously experienced in other cabins. Robert was an excellent host! Every detail of our trip was well thought out and we were completely at ease in all we did in our cabin! This was by far the most relaxing Christmas vacation we have experienced in the past 6 years of my family's travels to the mountains! D Kollwitz
