The cottage has a lovely location nestled in the trees and with great mountain views. The interior spaces are on the whole comfortable and well equipped, except for the bathroom which is very small.
Given the beautiful view from the windows of the cottage, a deeper cleaning of the windows is recommended.
Also the refrigerator should be cleaned more carefully.

Delightful country home with excellent communal areas. The kitchen was ideal for us. We’d love to cook and spend time at a big table and it was warm and cozy and friendly and cheerful. The living room is excellent and such a well-equipped bookshelf we couldn’t have even dreamed of. Everything we needed was there including the fireplace and enough beds and bed sheets and towels. We were warm and cozy and in a great location to access many other Lake District points of interest and hiking trail heads.

We had a beautiful vacation at the cottage. Jamie is very kind and if you need anything or ask him something he is quick in respons. The cottage is perfectly located and there is lots to do in the surroundings.
The cottage is comfortable and the kitchen had everything you need. Nice beds and even toys and games for our kids. We will come back for sure.

It's great. That's why we came again. The location is peaceful and there are quite a few good local walks like Dob Gill and High Rigg where you rarely meet anyone else. Cottage is cosy and has everything you need. Plenty of hot water etc. We will probably come again another year.

First timers in the area
Lovely quiet property with great views set back from the road gave the feeli g of being remote but in fact it was really easy to access the towns and lakes in the aren It had everything we needed for a family break with 6 adults and two dogs. The house info book was a great help particularly the routs of suggested walks direct from the cottage. The younger members of the group even ventured a refreshing dip in the waterfall up behind the house!!!

Spectacular again
This cottage is in a spectacular location at the foot of Castle Rock. The views are stunning and you couldn’t want to be in a better location to explore The Lakes; Keswick, Ullswater, Buttermere, Windermere are all within a short drive. There are stunning walks from the front door too.
The cottage itself is wonderful. Plenty of room, well kitted out for an outdoors lifestyle (including a wet dog), a big kitchen and cosy lounge with a fantastic log burner to enjoy snuggling up after a day in the fresh air. It is all decorated in a homely way and very welcoming to return to.
We were pleased with the cottage last time and the owner has continued to make improvements since we were last there. He is easy to contact and quick to respond with any problems (we forgot the property information so needed his help to get in!).
All in all, a delightful stay and we will definitely be returning!

Great holiday home
We loved this house. For us - 2 adults, 3 kids - it has a great layout with a big master bedroom and two smaller bedrooms across the landing (!). The bathroom is pretty cosy when everyone insists on doing their teeth at the same time, but it works. The living room is comfy and the kitchen big, modern and well-equipped; it all strikes the right balance between a holiday home (practical) and a place you want to relax (comfortable). The location is brilliant, of course: plenty of walks from your doorstep and many more a short distance away, as well as everything Keswick has to offer. Easy comms with Jamie and a great info folder, too.
(Incidentally, we don't have a dog; this place accepts them and normally we'd avoid this if we noticed it having stayed at one too many 'smelly dog' places before! But this house is immaculate, no worries at all on that score.)
Big recommend, and we hope to go back. Thanks, Jamie.

Three folks and a dog.
The house was ideal for us. It's large sociable kitchen was really well appointed too. Peace and quiet, with a lovely pub down the road doing great food.

Great return visit
Just like last time, the property was in excellent condition and had everything and more than we needed. We will be staying again. Jamie is an excellent host who communicates quickly. The location is perfect, far enough away that is quite and private but close enough to Keswick and Windermere for great day trips with excellent hikes straight from the doorstep.

Quiet place to enjoy the Lakes
Castle Rock Cottage is literally tucked underneath Castle Rock and is a good quiet location just down from St Johns in the Vale. I had 2 kids to take walking and we wanted to avoid the crowds in Keswick and the more popular tourist areas. The local walks of High Rigg and Great How are ideal for Children - we saw only a couple of other people on these walks. You are still only 10 mins away from Keswick for Supermarkets etc. The house is well equipped, plenty of hot water and with the fire going (which we needed because of the weather) its very cosy. Great selection of books and local walking guides, All in all we had a great time and would go back if I could ever persuade the children up another hill :).

Perfect location to explore The Lakes
The best thing about this property is it’s location: 10 minutes from Keswick, 15 from Grasmere and all the cells and lakes within easy driving distance. There are fantastic walks - easy through to very challenging - from the cottage door too. The cottage was lovely with a secure garden, which was perfect for our dog. The decoration was very pleasant with an excellent family kitchen to refuel after a long hike. Very comfortable sofas with a selection of books to read in both fiction and very useful books about the local area. The property guide wasn’t obvious to find (it was under the guest book on the desk in the corner of the lounge) but once we did it had excellent information and we followed a couple of the walks which were stunning.
Only two small negatives. First was we couldn’t get the TV to work, but I am sure this was a glitch and we didn’t make a lot of effort to sort it as we enjoyed relaxing and getting early nights after a day’s walking. A working (and bigger) TV would have got it that final star though as the rest was superb. Also, the first thing we saw when we arrived was the overflowing bins directly in front of the property where you work. Again, not a major thing and I am sure was awaiting the council pick up, but didn’t give the best first impression when we arrived. But, if they are the only negatives we can say about our stay, then it was excellent overall and we would definitely go back.

perfect break
Four adults, two children and two dogs staying at the cottage and it was ideal! It felt cosy straight away, the kids loved their bunk beds and adults beds were really comfy. Great location 10 mins into Keswick and off on the steamboat for some great walks. Jamie the owner was a pleasure dealing with any inquiries and all in all was a lovely stay Will 100% be returning in hopefully the near future!

Cosy Weekend
Beautiful, well equipped holiday house in the Lakes. We had a super stay with friends and all our dogs. The house is well placed for getting around and has everything anyone could need for a comfortable self catering holiday. Thank you everyone :-)

Lovely location, accommodation and hosts
We had an amazing holiday which centred on both the cottage’s location and condition. The accommodation was exceptionally well maintained and equipped with a wonderful position in the Thirlmere valley. The log burning stove in the lounge was a welcome bonus after a long day out walking with the dogs and kids. I genuinely can’t fault the place. The host (Jamie) was even able to deter all rain for our weekly stay which is no doubt unheard of for the lakes in December! We’ll definitely be back.

Lovely House - Great Location
We really enjoyed our stay at the house. Lovely and warm, great space and beautiful views.
Beds were very comfy with good quality bed linen. Plenty of room in the kitchen and lounge and a wonderful place to come back to after a day out or stay in if bad weather.
The garden would be lovely to use if the weather was good enough

Fantastic cottage with great walks from the front door
We enjoyed a real home from home experience in this gorgeous homely cottage. Cosy, comfortable with walks on the doorstep. We hiked Helvellyn and back from the cottage and everything is in easy reach. Brilliant family kitchen with lovely touches including a wine library!
