I was looking for an igloo that would be close to water and was not overly crowded. I was very pleased to find the Artic Fox Igloos. With only 20 Igloos you do get some privacy and a feeling that you are in the nature. For me this was very important and Artic Fox Igloos delivered exactly that. We were also very happy with the little sauna in the room. The cut of the igloo was very funtional as the living and sleeping areas were seprated. This gave the igloo a more spacious feel, and you did not need to see your luggage when enjoying the northern lights directly from the bed.
Unfortunately Ranua does not excell culinaristically and because the kitchen in the room is very small, staying for more than few nights is difficult. The restaurant at the Artic Fox Igloos was closed when we stayed there. Maybe the food situation would have been better if the restaurant had been open. The breakfast at the Igloos was ok, it was just missing some local flare in the selection.

Perfect lake view from the igloo.
If you are lucky enough and there is a solar activity and no clouds you will see the aurora right from the igloo.
Private sauna in the igloo.
Rich breakfast is included.
Delicious dinner is available in the resort restaurant. Recommended!
In the winter you need to unfreeze the glass often in order to have a view.
But when you heat the glass - internal heating is off. Kind of head ache.
Kitchen is too small and not really suitable for cooking. Only heating some food.
We stayed with 1 kid and to be honest - there is no enough place for that.
May be ideal for 2.

We stayed in a beautiful sophisticated igloo, with our own sauna! Igloo was really spacious and even had its own little kitchenette! Amazing lake view! Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast.
It is located in Ranua, which is a very small village in between forests, that is far from all touristic attractions or even markets. It is ideal for having a wilderness experience and viewing aurora but it is not for those, who don't like isolation or quiet time.

sauna, size of room, comfortable beds
location, lack of bathroom amenities, power shutdown, lacking in service for the price paid

Very comfortable room, more spacious than I thought it would be for a family of 4. Sleeping situation was double bed and 2 singles which are pulled out from the double. Hob, fridge and microwave not much counter space for kettle but we made it work. Amazing water pressure in the shower. We didn’t have a car but the staff organised transport to the supermarket for me which was brilliant. Really good breakfast

Igloos were perfect for viewing the northern lights
Despite being told that the reception/front office opens at 8am and breakfast starts at 8am, that was not the case. We did not receive breakfast because nothing was prepared, and no one was working between 8-8:30am on Christmas Day. This was a huge disappointment. We will not be returning in the future. Poor value for the money. If I’m paying $700 for 1 night and breakfast is included, I expect to receive breakfast and someone to be working at 8am when I need to check out.

Stunning views, beautiful location, clean, spacious, warm. Absolutely perfect.

The view to the lake is stunting. The buffet breakfast was great. The staff was very nice and accommodating.
As the igloos are too close one of each others you have to choose between privacy or the view (blinds close or open). Due to excess of glass surface, as the sunrise, the igloos get too warm quickly. The blinds are manual (and the automatic rolling system is so poorly design that the springs doesn't works very well). And the cherry on the cake, you cannot control the AC yourself : you have to call reception, at any time of the day or night to choose temperature set point or fan speed.

We really like the location of the hotel. It is so peaceful and serene. There is a nice lake, grill place, sauna, everything is nice and clean!
There is nothing that we do not like about the place.

Great design and compact size.
The location of breakfast and breakfast time is quite tricky. It is not in the same property. We traveled with two small children, so it is easier for us to have our own breakfast in Igloo and skip complimentary breakfast.

The bed and the full view from the bed oriented towards the north is the best point of the hotel.
The location and the view are very good to be in contact with nature.
Having a private sauna inside the apartment is also a very nice thing.
I missed two a night table beside the beds.
I would have like to have some space or room where to leave the luggage, there is only one closet.
I would have like to have some information about how probably is to see the Northern Lights that day, and maybe some tips.

Unique iglos, clean and well made, nice area and a lot of opportunities for activities by the wildlife safaris company. Awesome husky tour and guide! Besides the chaotic shuttle service, this is a place to be!
The whole place is more made for camping then for a "luxury" iglo experience. Iglos and activities are unique and very good, but breakfast is poor (cantine style and food quality not suitable for a price of more than 500€ per night; it's made for the camping area...)
Chaotic shuttle service!!! Iglos are only reachable by a 7 min drive or a 1h walk from the reception. That wouldn't be a problem at all if there would be a functional shuttle service. We stayed 2 nights and waited almost 2 hours in total for a shuttle. They forgot about the breakfast and airport return shuttle pickup and there were not enough drivers and cars available. Why don't you just do scheduled shuttles (like every hour) so you and the guests know what to expect?! We waited more than 50 min for a drive to the iglos (unacceptable) and then stayed with 5 people in a small car (thats not a nice covid measure...).

Igloo
Reception and breakfast aren t in the same place..around 5 km

The igloo was comfortable and the surrounding area very nice. The built in sauna was a highlight in the igloo. The organised activities, particularly the husky ride, were well run and staff friendly.
- This is not a 4/5 star hotel as suggested.
- Facilities are very basic; basic supplies are provided in the room; lighting is poor; daily room service/cleaning was not provided as standard; food was served in a canteen and after breakfast you are expected to clear away plates and scrape food into food waste containers.
- The reception and canteen are 6km from the igloos, this is not highlighted on the hotel description. The hotel provides transfers to/from the igloos, at an added cost. We had two separate occasions whereby our prearranged transfer did not turn up, on one of which we missed a meal time as a result.
- Staff are poorly trained and not able to deal with complaints well. When complaining to a staff member we were laughed at and belittled, with no subsequent apology from that staff member.
- We were made to carry our bags between the igloo and transport, whilst a staff member stood on his phone without making any effort to open doors or assist us in any way.
For the price we paid, we expected a lot more from this hotel in terms of facilities, service and overall experience. Unfortunately it did not deliver.

we were traveling with friends and booked 2 igloos - our igloo was amazing, the sauna, the view, very clean. in the friends igloo however all the heating of the windows were broken. so you could not see anything but the ice and snow on the windows.
the reception on the site in closed - it is 5-7 mins by car away from igloos, so we called the reception and we’re told to wait.
we waited for two hours - nothing happened, we called again and were told that yes, it is broken and there isn’t anything they could do.
obviously for 600 euro per night our friends were disappointed
I am putting a 10 for service - because UNT he morning the hotel actually refunded us all the cost for the 2nd igloo. that was a professional move.

The igloos are really pretty, but it was disappointing to find out that when you are paying 600 euro/night and not even provided with any basic toiletries.
Additionally, there were no water bottles or anything and they gave 2 wine with price tags on them.
Loved the stay loved the location, but a really pity as they missed these basic services which any decently rated property provides.

Everything was perfect. The Igloo was incredible in every way. The staff was also very polite and helpful. A must do experience!!

lots of helpful and nice staff. we were lucky to have completely clear skies during the evening!
overall pricy, especially if we weren't lucky to have clear skies as we were only staying one night. might have felt different if I traveled with my partner.
1.0 / 5.0
the igloos were a decent size, on a lake
the food. staff were rude, and unavailable. called and no one picked up the phone to turn up the heat. especially this is the only way to reach them. since you isolated with no access. no tv. no couch or sitting area. they insisted the floors in the bathroom were heated but felt ice cold. they initially gave us a lower tiered igloo when I double checked and we had the lakeside view and had prepaid. and we had to wait 30 minutes for a new key. unfriendly. would not recommend. the zoo was a complete flop. bathroom too small. this was one of the most expensive places. charging 5 star prices with budget motel taste and attitude. no thanks. never again.
