About this cabin rental
No Wifi, no air conditioning, no microwave and One mile of gravel driveway leads to The Rustic Cabin which is situated on a private section of 30 wooded acres in the Black Hills surrounded on two sides by Forest Service. You will need to use your cell service for internet at the cabin. ATT cell service is good at the cabin and all around the property. Any other cell service is extremely poor in our area, you may need to drive to the top of the hill for service. The TV reception also comes and goes and only has local channels. We have a CD player and movies at the cabin for your use.
Trailer parking - go past the driveway that leads to the cabin - go straight ahead towards the gazebo and park your trailer in the grass area.
Trail access - Is located 1 mile south on Hwy 385 at the Steel Wheel Gas and Convenience store. We can no longer access the trail directly from the cabin. As of July 1st 2024 the Forest Service put up a barricade and closed trail 538.1G and trail 247.1E which were used to access the trail system from the cabin. Forest Service is actively closing many dead end trails and will impose a $2000.00 fine for anyone using these closed trails.
A permit is needed to use the Forest Service trail system. Permits are available for purchase at Steel Wheel gas station & convenience store which is one mile south on Hwy 385.
Our home is also on the property and you will see it first as you cross through the gate. The cabin has its own driveway access and is separated from our home by the small pond, gazebo and campfire area. You cannot see our home from the cabin and our nearest neighbor is approximately 1/2 mile away.
The cabin is five miles from Deadwood, twenty miles from Sturgis or Spearfish, forty miles from Hill City. Centrally located to all the famous attractions.
This is a Rustic Designed Cabin built by Bill and finished in 2018. The cabin measures 12 × 26 with a 10 x 12 loft. It has a full bath, full kitchen and a queen size bed in the loft (an earlier guest commented that the open stairs are steep). The living area has a reclining couch and a comfortable recliner. The TV reception is by antenna with local channels. The reception comes and goes, so if you like watching TV this might not be the place you want to stay. We no longer offer WiFi as the signal was too low.
There is a view of the pond and gazebo from the covered front porch of the cabin. During the months of July & August the pond is very low as it fluctuates due to the water table.

Cabin was clean as always. This was our second time staying here. If you're looking for a stay away from people and noise, I'd recommend this cabin.

This was my first solo trip, it only took me 61 years. I had everything I needed. The cabin and hosts were awesome. The hiking was right there and no noise except the birds. Great place for reading on the deck. Would definitely go back.

We were looking for a secluded setting and this little jewel was definitely away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. To top it all, we were intrigued with the design and craftsmanship that went into the construction of this unique little cabin

Long story short - book the cabin! You won’t regret it. Lynn and Bill are excellent hosts, and their cabin is filled with all sorts of cute details that tie the place together making it feel more like a home than a rental. I booked the cabin for a girls trip with my bestie and we thoroughly enjoyed the property - great views, especially star gazing at night from the gazebo. It served as the perfect home base while we explored western SD. The cabin had everything we could have needed. Very thoughtful hosts - definitely looking to come back to the area at some point in the future and will seek out the rustic cabin for sure!! Thank you for having us!

Awesome place hidden in the trees. Had a awesome time getting away from the business of Sturgis and enjoys the hiking trails right outside the front door. Will definitely be back

We rolled to our hosts rustic cabin location on motorcycles from Minnesota to attend the 84th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and do some side tours of Deadwood, Leads, Custer, Custer State Park & Mount Rushmore. Our hosts Lynn & Bill were very gracious, accommodating, friendly and attentive hosts. The rustic cabin setting was perfect. I will definitely be back!!! Thank you!

Lynn is a most gracious host and the cabin is a joy. You won’t be sad that you stayed there unless you somehow fail to look at the pictures and accurate description and you’re cosmopolitan at heart and just screwed up and picked the wrong stay. It is what it is and even more.

This area and canin never disappoint! We love staying here. Highly recommend this!!

This small rustic cabin was a perfect secluded spot following an active day touring and hiking the northern Black Hills. Nestled among birch and pine trees we enjoyed watching a large variety of birds. No wifi and limited TV channels encouraged us to “unplug” and just enjoy. We hope to come back.

This was our 3rd time staying at this cabin and we love it every time. Bill and Lynn are the best! You will have the most relaxed time staying here. It’s a great place to slow down and enjoy nature. We will be back again next year!

The cabin & property were wonderful a second time around. The stay was peaceful, quiet & has a nice trail/forest service road for a walk. Host is so friendly and makes sure you have everything you need! Really a beautiful place to have a serene atmosphere.

Our stay at Lynn and Bill's cabin was perfect. The property was exactly as described. The cabin is even cuter in person than in the pictures. Our hosts were very gracious, and our trip was exactly what we needed. 100% stay at the cabin again.

This a wonderful cabin centrally located to all the places we went - Black Hills Caverns, 1880 Train, Spearfish Canyon, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, etc. It was perfect for a couple getaway. We loved that it was not near neighbors!

Secluded and private but not far from all the places/things you might want to see/do. Everything as described. Perfect for a couple. We have stayed here many times and hope to stay many more.

Exactly as listed. My husband and I came for our anniversary and we wanted a place that we could disconnect from the outside world. It was perfect! Close enough to see some beautiful scenery but perfectly tucked away to enjoy peace and quiet! We will defiantly be back!!

This was our 4th time staying at this wonderful cabin. It has become a place my husband and I can't wait to go to every year. Perfect size for a couple with all the necessities. Love how peaceful and quite this spot is and so close to town. Will definitely be back again!!

This cabin was nice. It was out away from people and the rush of Deadwood. We would stay here again in the future for a getaway without kids.

Communication with owners was great from booking till after we left and asked to let them how when we made it home (1750 mile trip) Cabin was was just as described and they left nothing to surprise you. It was a great stay other than we as group had some old men heath issues, that was nothing to do with cabin.
Would stay again, enjoy owners, thank you to them!

Cute little cabin, off the main road, nice and peaceful. Very clean, would recommend for others looking to stay off the beaten path, who want to enjoy some peace and quiet, with beautiful scenery.

Great place to stay to get away from it all. My son was killed in a car accident this time of year, 28 years ago and is a great place to reflect and regroup. Love the peaceful and quiet this place has to offer.

This was our second time staying here and it was just as great as the first time. Quiet, secluded, clean, relaxing, and a great location to everything. We did trail riding and had a blast. Called a taxi and went downtown one night for dinner. We will be staying here again!

Bill & Lynn's cabin is fabulous! So tranquil! So beautiful! Your basic needs are met and they've included little special touches, like a complimentary bottle of wine. We enjoyed watching birds, chipmunks and squirrels at the feeder right off the porch. The grounds are wonderful for your own private hikes. We didn't want to leave! If you're tall, watch your head in the loft. Highly recommend!! Thank you, Wild Bill and Lynn!

My husband and I were looking for a weekend getaway where we could relax and spend some time in the Black Hills and we were so happy with our stay at the Rustic Cabin!
The location of the cabin is perfect - private and quiet. Lynn and Bill have thought of everything you might need during your stay.
We really appreciated having the grill, as were cooked all of our meals at the cabin. The kitchen has all of the dishes and cooking items you need.
The bathroom was so cute and the towels were nicer than our towels at home!
One a Saturday morning hike, we saw 5 elk just a short distance from the cabin! Lots of deer, birds and a couple of turkeys too.
By far, our best cabin rental ever. Thanks again!
