About this house rental
Fun things to do in the area:
Lighthouses, Downtown Shop Fronts, Museums, US Coast Guard Festival, Cascades Color Water Show, The Luge, Mt, Garfield Motorcycle Hill Climb, Pageants, Fishing and more. My kids rarely visit without exploring the WWII Silversides Submarine Museum, which is right next to the South Pierhead Lighthouse and playground.
P.S.
This is a beloved home which our dear friends had in the family for generations and it holds very fond memories for us. We have many who return every year. Happiness and low stress are what nature is all about and we want to support that every way we can. We want to spread the happiness our family has had in this cottage.

The place was nice and quiet. Needs some TLC and updated furniture.

This was our 4th time staying here. We just absolutely love the location. Quiet street and just a few minutes walk to the beach. Wish I would've booked 1 extra night 😊

This was our third year staying there (we've also booked time in 2025), so we do enjoy staying there.
A couple comments we have are that it would be nice to have an icemaker and that the large area rug in the kitchen is rather dirty/stained and should be taken care of before your next guests arrive. All else was fine.
See you next year!

Just what we needed for 3 couples! The beach, Coast Guard festival, and game nights made for a great stay.

The home was very nice. The location was amazing so close to the park and the beach area but they need to really fire. Their cleaning lady. There were huge tumbleweeds of dog hair from. I’m assuming previous renters on and around furniture and I know for a fact, I left the house cleaner when I left then when I arrived.

Loved the back yard and screened in porch!! We had a wonderful vacation.

Very damp, too much moisture in house. Dishwasher did not work. Too expensive for lack of comfort. Too difficult to get into home. Some black mold around shower.

This house should be booked all summer long! It was perfect for our party of 5, ranging from 11 to 80 years of age, plus our dog. Plenty of seating to host others for meals or a cocktail hour. The house was clean and well appointed inside and out. None of us detected any smell some other guests mentioned. The neighborhood is quiet and we had some nice chats while out for walks. The wooded walk to the lake was magical. Great dining and every convenience was a short drive away.

We really enjoyed our stay! The neighborhood was quiet and easy for walking plus only a short walk to Lake Michigan.
The owners were easy to contact and took care of the couple of items we had!

We had some issues with the VRBO website and was unable to access the property through the website. The property manage was on top of our issues and all was well! A fantastic week. Would recommend and stay here again

We absolutely loved your home. I will definitely recommend to my friends and family who visit the Muskegon area. The walk through the woods to the beach was my daily routine. The home had everything we needed!

Excellent place for a vacation. Short walk to the beach on nice trails. They had me at the coffee!
Great for a family!

We absolutely loved staying here! We came for the beach but also fell in love with the house. We will absolutely be coming back for another stay. Less than 20min from Grand Haven beach to play the day away and hang out for the singing fountain after sunset. Less than 20 min from the Muskegon high speed ferry when it was time to head back to Minnesota. The short walk to P J Hoffmaster beach from the house was difficult because of beach erosion the last couple years making the climb up and down very steep but it was still definitely worth the effort!
Only negatives were we wish there was more seating to eat together with everyone and a couple people in our group thought there was a strong musty smell but the rest of us couldn’t smell it.

Visit was in late October. I never received check in info, I had to call for it. Upon arrival the property was poorly managed, lots of overgrowth, looked like no one had been there in years. Upon entry, stuck by a very old smell, mildew or old water damage, not sure but it was strong, even with air unifiers throughout the house. House was clean, and inside was as pictured.
Wonderful location with neighborhood trail to beach and very close to Grand haven and other hiking activities.

We really enjoyed our stay at your house! Quiet, peaceful & a lovely area for walking, which includes the trails and the walk to the beach.
Also, the issue with the washing machine was handled swiftly. Thanks for the pleasant stay!

The good- the owner was responsive and reports that she is looking into the issue
The access is fantastic to the state park
The bad-
There is something going on with the air quality. Within 12 hours, my adult daughter was in the midst of a respiratory allergic attack- swollen nasal passages, painfully. She also started to feel unwell, foggy, fatigued.
By the second day, I was feeling it too, fatigue, fogginess.
The third day, we opened all of the window and we all felt better.
That night, rain came in with humidity increase. We kicked up the air conditioner but 3 of us felt terrible, my husband slept for 12 hours and still felt terrible. The humidity was causing water drops on the vents and the floor in the breezeway was soaking wet. We ended up leaving that 4th day and asked for a partial refund which was provided.
I am not sure what is going on and hope that the owner will work to correct whatever the problem is. I am bummed out that the vacation we planned for a year had to be cut short and we didn't feel well for the majority of the time we were there.

House was located in between Grand Haven and Muskegon. Easy drive to both locations. 💖 the beach.

Loved it!
The property was great! It was clean and comfy! We enjoyed the private backyard and the bikes in the garage! Also the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. The short trail to the beach was amazing too! However the time we went the beach smelled of dead fish. But overall everything was just great!

Comfortable, Convenient Getaway
Nice house in a quiet neighborhood and close to all the Muskegon and Grand Haven activities. Getting to the beach is easy but a workout if you're carrying a lot of stuff! House had everything we needed. The only suggestion would be privacy curtains in bedrooms. Would recommend for anyone looking for a nice family getaway.

Beware of this property and owners!
I have not reviewed our stay (June 2) until now because I thought the owners were not aware of the state of the property. I wanted to give them time to follow up on our discussion. But after 6 weeks, I feel it is necessary to warn other families of this property. It was run down with a very musty (possibly mold?) smell. The doors did not lock the home. The roof indicated it had possibly leaked and the gutters were very full. It had air purifiers in every room with strict instructions to leave them on at all times. The refrigerator leaked and the water purifier at the kitchen sink did not work. The yard was overgrown and the grill was extremely dirty. It did have a lovely picnic table in the porch and a nice outdoor fire pit. I contacted the owner who appeared unaware of the condition of the property. She said she would address the issues right away. We also needed a refund since one of our family members was unable to attend. (The extra person fee had already been paid.) The owner agreed to provide a refund for the family member and for our inability to use the grill. I allowed several weeks for this refund. One day I received an email from the trip insurance that a claim for stealing the duvet cover and pillow shams had been filed. (We did not take anything from the home, in fact I washed and folded them. I put them on the dresser with a note that they were clean.) I called the owner about the insurance claim and her husband said, "If it does not affect you monetarily, I do not see how this is your concern." I told him it was morally wrong. I emailed the insurance company the pictures we took of the house as we left and the duvet cover/pillow cases were clearly in the picture. I also contacted VRBO to ask for help with this. I checked my account and only a portion of the refund had been sent. VRBO stated they would contact the owner and assist with this matter, but the next day I received an email that they had closed the case. I have called/emailed VRBO, but received no response. I have never received the remainder of my refund or any other communication with VRBO, the insurance company or the owner. Not only did we have these issues, the bigger issue was that we were not able to enjoy our week as a family. My children are grown, with families of their own and live in various states. Many of them could not stay the entire week due to the air quality in the home. I just felt obligated to warn other families of this property and owner.

Great Location
We loved this place. The neighborhood was so quiet and friendly. We loved the access to the beach too. Lots of space to spread out. We enjoyed as a home base while we checked out Muskegon, Grand Haven and Holland. So relaxing with lots of places to visit.

Family Getaway
The location of this property was great! 5-10 minute walk to lake Michigan and 15 minute drive to the state park. This was a great place to stay with kids! There was a nice fire pit in the back of the house. We enjoyed whippi dip ice cream down the street. We definitely come back some day!

homey landing pad in nature
Wonderful hiking opportunities right outside the door! The lake is close by, and the backyard is a beautiful natural oasis. There are lots of special spots on the property that aren’t explicitly mentioned in the discriprion. For example, 1 car garage with bikes, skateboards, balls, beach chairs; a hang out room off of the garage with a double futon, foos ball table, car track; back and front screened in porches; game room w tv, pull out couch in main living area; beautiful natural light in main living/kitchen area; well-supplied kitchen; quiet, dead-end street. The owners were responsive and helpful. We had no issues at all with our multi-age family and 2 dogs. Doordash worked well, convenience stores were close by and restaurants/shopping were not far.

Location, location, location!
This home is in a beautiful neighborhood just a few steps from Lake Michigan and P.Hoffmaster state park. It has a lively park-like back yard that leads to the state park. House was large enough for 6 adults and 3 children under the age of 10.

Nice Property and Good Location
Very clean and well maintained inside - however yard could have used some cleanup and maintenance. Very nice quiet neighborhood. The beach is a quarter mile or so via the street, through the woods and a paved trail which leads to a small dune overlooking Lake Michigan - which was our favorite spot and the entire reason we rented. We wanted to be as close to the water as possible and although we could not see water from the house, the walk was short and the beach was fantastic.

Quiet retirement community
This was a nice cozy home for a weekend girls trip. While we didn't use it, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. (No complimentary coffee bar, so bring your own)
I would not attempt the backyard trail. You will find a better route in the renters guide binder.
I'm not opposed to revisiting this location, but some minor improvements would be welcomed. 🙂

Beautiful Beach
The cottage is exactly as described in the listing. It is peaceful, scenic and proximal to an absolutely beautiful Lake Michigan beach. The walk isn't long. Definitely take the path from the cul-de-sac, not from the back of the property. The sand dune before the beach is huge but if you take the fork to the right it is longer but avoids the dune. You'll have to carry anything you want on your back.
The house is roomy for 8 people and the kitchen has most of what you need. The only thing we forgot but needed was pan spray. There is a Meijer and Target about 10 min away for the items you find you need. The sheets and beds are comfy and there are air purifiers/fans in every room. Plenty of towels. Laundry detergent, dish soap, sponges, general cleaner, trash bags were all available. As mentioned in other reviews the grill is in poor shape but we were able to get a few burners going.
Toast and Jams is a must go breakfast/lunch stop. Downtown Muskegon has a cute little shop area Thurs-Fri.

Great Home by the Water
The home was very welcoming and had everything we needed. The organic cotton sheets and bamboo towels were amazing. It has a wonderful open lay out and enough space for our party of 8. I backyard was beautiful to look at and just a short drive to the surrounding areas of interest.

Always great!
We have been renting this home for 5 years. It has become a family tradition. We always find something new to explore each time we come. The area is great. Quiet neighborhood and beautiful beach in between two great cities. Grand Haven and Muskegon have so much to explore. Rootdown Yoga on the USS LST 393 is always a favorite, Take a Toasted Pickle sandwich to Oddside and you've got a nice vacation style lunch. Can't wait for next year!

Paradise
Location perfect near everything you need- state park, beach, groceries and other towns. Lots of cooks can be in the kitchen. Outdoor patio table for meals was wonderful. All ages can be very comfortable. The bunk bed is even comfortable for an adult. Loved the game room behind the garage perfect for the guest that needs their own space. But everyone can have their own space. The backyard view ...well paradise but please go see it for yourself.

One bad neighbor
We enjoyed the home and area with only one problem. We were not told you couldn’t ride 4 wheeler’s in the neighborhood. Son in law rode to trailhead because of a bad knee and started the whole process of stressing me out for out once ever 2 years family vacation. Neighbor came knocking about noise from it when it is very quiet and we were walking beside it so very slow. There is a trailhead about 15 miles away to ride which we found out on our own. Then she called owner and owner called me telling us not to ride.,I really don’t know what this neighbor would have done if we rode our Harley’s to the house. Now they are loud. Last morning of week trip DNR came knocking on door giving a warning not to ride them as they were called yet again, and they hadn’t even rode them just loaded up to go to trailhead. As we walked to the beach there finally was a posted sign and post not to ride back there. Needless to say this put a lot of stress on me with my children and grandchildren just trying to enjoy our vacation. If we were warned about this beforehand it could have been prevented. Home and area is very lovely just a couple bad neighbors that probably don’t want a VBRO in the neighborhood .

Great family place with beautiful scenery
This was a comfortable place to stay with all the amenities you would need. Gorgeous view and a nice walk to the beach. Didn’t take the path behind the house, but the path direction provided were easy to follow. The dunes make it trickier to access if you have a lot of beach equipment (wagon, umbrellas etc), but the view and secluded nature make it worth the hike! Beds were very comfortable and there is a ton of space for a big family to feel comfortable.

Perfect
Perfect get away for a girls weekend. Have to say that A La Mode is the best ice cream around and close enough it’s worth the drive. Ran the neighborhood a couple times and it was a relatively easy walk to the beach (but that one sand dune from hell is not for the faint of heart). Overall just the seclusion and the view out the back was worth it (saw deer and turkeys in the yard)

Nice place for weekend family get-away
House had everything we needed for a nice family weekend. Liked the openness of the kitchen area and separate living room. Table in screened in porch worked perfect for meals. Quiet neighborhood. Short walk to beautiful lakeshore.

Loved the location
The location of this house was great. Out the back door we could walk through the woods in the state park to the dune and Lake Michigan. Extremely restful location which is exactly what our family needed.

This is our first experience renting a VRBO and I have to say it was a good one. The house was clean and amenities were as listed. If you dont like the woodsy vibe you probably wont like this property. The path to the beach is a bit overgrown and not easy to maneuver through but once you've made it through the brush to the road path it is a nice walk to the beach. This location is perfect for relaxing or taking a ride to Grand Haven. Thank you very much. We would definitely stay again.
