Rass Mandal is the most unique adobe vacation residence in Santa Fe. It is situated on a mountain range of pine forests with spectacular views. Entering brings you to another time and presents a serene and inspiring atmosphere for all. The house and grounds of more than 20 acres offer abundant locations for quiet time. There are numerous hiking & mountain bike trails immediately accessible, some of which take you directly to the center of Santa Fe. You may find a video of the home here: www.rassmandal1.com/home/
Upon entering the home you encounter a large domed circular living room (Mandala Room) complete with a gas-fired fireplace, eastern antique furniture and beautiful views looking out to a pool. This space is ideal for group sessions, gatherings and entertainment. Off to the left of the living room is the dining room and kitchen area. The dining table has room to accommodate 12 and is a great area for entertaining and formal meals. The kitchen is open plan and has a Moroccan style wood-burning fireplace and a very comfortable breakfast nook ideal for bird watching. Behind the kitchen is a King size bedroom and a bathroom, secluded from the rest of the house.
To the right of the living room are guest quarters, each room offers views overlooking the grounds and the entire Santa Fe valley. The master bedroom is complete with a large meditation/work area, beautiful bathroom and sunken Jacuzzi with views. Additionally, there is a 2nd story observation deck that provides expansive views over all of Santa Fe, the Jemez Mountains and beyond. Although the house is not air conditioned, there are ceiling fans in every bedroom. However, given the cool evenings AC it is not actually necessary.
Heading outside, there is a large private pool, jacuzzi style 5 person hot tub, plunge pool and sauna. The pool (40,000 gallons) is heated from May 15th to September 30th and generally the pool water temperature will be maintained at approximately 78 - 85 F throughout the heated season. We have invested in renewable Solar Technology for heating the home and the pool thus keeping our environmental footprint to a minimum. As the pool is heated with solar, it is continually heated however with the cool nights the range mentioned is what should be expected. The hot tub is kept at 104 F all year-round. Please note that the pool & hot tub require some servicing every week and we will be as unobtrusive as possible. All this is surrounded by a deck and patio ideal for outdoor dining and relaxation. There is also a gas-fired Fire Pit for enjoyment during the cool evenings. Burn restrictions imposed by Santa Fe County may sometimes restrict its use.
Although we do permit a small dog (under 20 pounds), I expect that you will be responsible. A dog should not be left outside unattended due to wildlife danger and the pool. The property is not fenced. If you are considering bringing a pet, you should discuss this with me beforehand.
Ski Santa Fe is 30 minutes from the center of Santa Fe, just add ten minutes to that to get there from Rass Mandal.

Kitchen well equipped. Trip to town very manageable and well worth it for the peaceful atmosphere at the house. We are a three generation family of 11 and it worked great. Owner is friendly and helpful.

Our family came in from Portland Oregon, San Diego, Boston and Pennsylvania. Everyone loved the house, pool, weather and all the many things we could do in the surrounding area. Richard was a very responsive host and quite friendly and helpful.

If you seek staying in a unique museum-like property Rass Mandal is the perfect place for you. We spent 10 days with our children and grandchildren ages 10, 14, 16, and 18 and enjoyed every minute. The kids especially liked the pool and hot tub. The house is immaculate and large enough for everyone to spread out. Since there were 9 of us, eating out was challenging but the well appointed kitchen made it a delight to prepare gourmet meals for the family. The dining room had ample space for all to be together; when we wanted to be. The outdoor property is expansive offering short and long hikes, birdwatching and expansive views. The owner is readily available to answer questions or help with needs you might have. Rass Mandel is the perfect place to make lasting memories. It is a special place and surpassed our expectations.

We wanted to find a special place to celebrate our 60th anniversary, my 85th birthday and my wife's 81st with our family of eight. We chose Rass Mandal based on its web site and VRBO reviews. It was perfect in every respect! The first day we just marveled at its beauty and amenities. By the second day Rass Mandal became one with us; its ambiance and inspiration influencing our thinking and decisions every day. Our host, Richard, was cordial, informative and helpful - and left us alone to just enjoy the experience. Rass Mandal is truly a magical place that left an impression we will never forget.

A group of 10 women coming from various locations across the country gathered for a larger retreat and found out once at Rass Mandal - we arrived at our own private retreat. This place not only has an amazing story, but was built with the feminine "energy" in mind. RM is filled with gorgeous art, sensuous colors and lines of furniture. When I arrived I quickly stated, "my goal is to not sit in the same seat twice". And I did a good job, still not trying all of them! Everywhere you see you see a new story in front of you. I had no need to go anywhere else - this is luxury and home sweet home all in one... with a dash of another (mystical if you will) world. Richard is a rock star - I'd stay at any of his properties (managed by him). Cheers

Rass Mandal is the most unique, mystical, magical, lovely, strange, curious, enchanted…I could go on and on with adjectives but suffice to say, this place is like no other. Our family of 8 adults, 3 grandchildren (including and infant) were absorbed into the property and enjoyed all the nooks and crannies, pools and hot tub, decks, umbrellas, bird watching, trails, paintings, bubble baths…again I could go on and on.
Richard met us at arrival, gave us the tour and said “it’s your house”. Everything needed and more was provided including an infant pack ‘n play, high chair, pool floats…again on and on.
We had Chef Elizabeth Harley prepare our anniversary dinner and she had everything needed for a 5 course dinner at the large dining table that accommodated everyone. And when I say everything needed and more, I mean even down to ornate napkin rings!
Richard asked if there was anything that would make the stay more comfortable. The only thing I could add is: it was July, every day during our visit there was a NWS extreme heat advisory, so blinds or exotic coverings on a few skylights would help in the afternoon heat. Nit picking.
Overall, it was amazing to be given Rass Mandal for 4 days in July to celebrate our anniversary and celebrate we did.
If you are fortunate enough to visit Santa Fe, you will not find a more unique, mystical, magical…well, you get the picture. You’ll be glad you did!

This was a great location for us to bring together four families for a week long vacation. With a large family, space for each to do their own thing was a necessity. Rass Mandal was great for this with the short walks around the property, the yoga pavilion, pool and all the unique nooks in the residence to explore.

The Rass Mandal house is a fantastic place to spend quality time with your friends. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our time both inside the house and hiking in the nearby mountain trails.
The photos and description of the house matched perfectly with what we experienced in person. The pool, sauna, and hot tub are well maintained providing a really nice luxury for everyone to enjoy.
The host of the house does an incredible job communicating about the house, amenities, check in and check out, and any additional services you may want to take advantage of. We had a chef come to the house and cook dinner for us one evening and the kitchen and dining room were great spaces to host such an event.
I highly recommend staying at the Rass Mandal house if you are in the Santa Fe area. My friends and I didn't take advantage of the yoga pavilion, but for those interested, it is an amazing space and amenity to the overall grounds of the house.

Wonderful time at Rass Mandal. A fantastic property, great views, great location, so much to see. Listing and description are accurate, with wonderful outdoor spaces. Wish it was pool season-we may book in summer to fully enjoy pool and deck and firepit and venture onto the roof! Richard is great host and available to assist if need. Place was extremely well stocked, kitchen had more than needed, Perfect for cooking our thanksgiving meal. Fireplace in living room was great and I now want a fireplace in my kitchen like there is here!! Our family of 8 had plenty of space and enjoyed our stay at Rass Mandal, thank you!

We had a group of eight different business owners stay Rass Mandal for three nights. The grounds and home are perfect for a large gathering, even if it did surprisingly snow about 6" during our stay. We have been going on retreats all over the country every year since 2014 and this was one of the highest rated locations to date. Richard was great on his communication on everything from the check-in process to what to expect with the road conditions. I would recommend Rass Mandal to anyone and look forward to visiting again at a different time of the year to take advantage of the grounds and pool. Words cannot describe this magnificent house! You have to experience the pleasure of staying here. The first moment you drive in, your eyes cannot take it all in. The vast landscape has beautiful statues, chimes, and art objects. It even has a wooden swing set for the kids. They loved it! The views are spectacular! The house itself is a masterpiece. So many art pieces and paintings. The rooms are all spacious. Comfortable beds and furniture . We all enjoyed the back area with the great heated swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit and incredible views. Richard, the owner, was very welcoming and took care of every detail . We will definitely return!

Amazing relaxing special place to stay
After a whirlwind wedding in Santa Fe we came up to Rass Mandal for a peaceful relaxing family vacation. My husband, daughter and granddaughter, son and partner and the newly married couple. Thanks to the generosity of the host Richard many kitchen items were available for us to use. Coffee sugar spices ketchup (we added to the collection!!). We grilled and cooked, ate and drank, and swam in the beautiful pool. We walked up the hill to watch the sunset and also from the roof deck. We wandered the property and saw many lizards and even a baby deer. Watching the birds eating from the kitchen table was a highlight. The house is amazing and there are many places to hang out inside and out. Can’t wait to come back again. Thanks Richard

the property is more like a museum than a comfortable place to stay. the upholstered furniture is faded and worn , the bed linens are worn and stretched not crisp and comfortable . hand rails are needed for all the stairs both inside and out I would not recommend it as a peaceful vacation place.

The house and property were amazing!! We were a group of 8 friends reuniting for a long weekend and this place was perfect. We really enjoyed lounging by the pool and utilizing the hot tub and sauna.
The house's architectural design is awesome, and Richard's decorating was amazing! So many interesting treasures and pieces throughout the house.
Another favorite spot was the star-gazing patio. Getting up there was a treat in itself.
Richard was very attentive and a great host! Everything you need is there.

The Most Unique
This will be the most unique house you will ever stay at . I have vacationed in houses all over the world and this property has a PERFECT blend of comfort, style and uniqueness.
The property owner lives at this location most of the year so you are actually staying at his well appointed home throughout your vacation, and feel lucky to be doing so.
Every room had its own unique style and design that even by the end of the week, I was still discovering nooks and crannies of comfortable space in which to sit and relax and enjoy the view. I would find a new place to sit and talk with my family everyday.

Perfect for yoga groups with its own yoga studio. And again , a uniqueness not to be denied in the 100+ houses I have stayed at.
I have no vested interest in the home or owner, this is just how I really feel about this house. When again in Santa Fe, we will stay here.

Rass Mandal is a truly magical palace providing comfort and joy beyond expectation for us. The house provided an incredible setting for a gathering of close friends to rejuvenate and celebrate my landmark birthday.
The radiant flooring and the fireplaces created a created a warm and cozy environment for cold winter nights. I never knew a fireplace in the kitchen was missing from my life! The house is full of personal treasures that were so fun to discover, experience and appreciate. These precious objects left in the house to be enjoyed brought a significant spiritual element to our stay.
Richard is an incredible host who personally greets you to show you around the house and instantly makes you feel at home. He is also extremely responsive should any questions arise during your stay. He leaves an impression on you and you'll want to invite him to dinner one night so he'll tell you ALL the stories! Richard, this is your invite for our next stay!
They say God is in the details and Richard thought of ALL the things. Attention paid to small things has big rewards. Watching the birds eat from the feeder while you're sipping your coffee in the breakfast nook. The spectacular light show while you're star gazing on the grounds late at night. The swing set in the front yard for every kid at heart! I particularly loved the presence of female energy every which way you looked. I don't think I ever felt so represented in ANY place I've ever stayed.

A destination in and of itself
Yes, we visited Santa Fe... but Rass Mandal was the true star of our holiday trip. It is truly a special destination, with a superlative host to match. Richard is thoughtful, attentive (after an overnight snowstorm, shovelers were sent up before I'd made it through my morning coffee!), thorough, and available whenever you need him but scarce when not. He does an excellent job of making you feel welcomed to and at home in this luxury property. The home is gorgeous and in excellent condition with special, artistic touches too numerous to list. The kitchen is kitted out with everything you'd need and luxury brands (plenty of Le Creuset). Toiletries are top-notch. There's radiant floor heating, so even in the winter it's a cozy hideaway. The sound system throughout the home is excellent. It's very private. The property has much to explore with a beautiful swingset for kids, myriad hidden "treasures," and several great hikes nearby. I can go on and on. Definitely explore the property's website and know that all is even better than pictured. A few things to note: the road up can get slippery in the winter months. If you don't have an all-wheel vehicle, Richard will graciously offer to ferry you back and forth. There are many precious items in the home at varying heights- my kids are a little older, but it would've been difficult traveling with true toddlers intent on exploring (or I would've had to have been watching them every second). If you have the opportunity to stay at Rass Mandal, don't pass it up- being in this magical place was truly a wonderful way to start the new year!

Wonderful Getaway for Family
Our kids, grandkids and my wife and myself had a wonderful time at Rass Mandal. The property is spectacular (no other way to describe it), but the highlight was meeting one of the co-owners, Richard Woodruff. Richard came over at our invitation and provided the fascinating history of the property, its previous occupants and how he went about decorating it. We were all spellbound. Rass Mandal Rocks!
My business group stayed at Rass Mandal for a few days. All of us loved it. It's an exquisitely appointed, thoughtfully-provisioned property that sits atop a mountain ridge revealing amazing views of the valley. The pictures don't completely reveal how special this property is. We all felt very relaxed staying at Rass Mandal. Richard and Moe were very communicative and attentive to our needs. The house comes with a well-written manual that pretty much answered any questions we had. We made nightly use of the hot tub and even used the sauna on a few occasions. We enjoyed checking email and playing cards on the expansive deck, which warmed up nicely in the New Mexico sun (even in late October with temps in the 50s). None of us had any complaints or suggestions for improvement. It was a 10 out 10!

Fun get away for moms
We had a group of 10 moms who traveled to Santa Fe for weekend of fun and relaxation. We LOVED staying at the Rass Mandal. The property is beautiful both inside and out - there’s so much to look at! We enjoyed the hot tub and sauna, and a couple even jumped into the pool even though it wasn’t heated at the time. We had plenty of space for all of us and the eat-in kitchen proved to be a great space that allowed us to spend time together while preparing meals. While the location isn’t right downtown, it was still easy to get to shops and we enjoyed the more private setting. Richard was helpful and gracious. We would definitely love to come back!

lovely and unique
From the start, I knew this vacation rental was going to be special, and indeed it was! Richard was very friendly and responsive to our questions and needs. He gave us a tour of the property upon arrival and explained how things worked, etc. We could not have asked for a better host! The home sits in the hills on a private, paved road and has fantastic views. It is very clean, quiet and peaceful- just what our weary souls needed. The pool was a wonderful bonus after coming home from our excursions into town and surrounding areas. The kitchen is top notch and had everything we needed in terms of cookware, dishes, and utensils. When we decided not to cook, many wonderful restaurants in Sante Fe were a quick drive away. We loved watching the birds on the feeder right outside the window of the dining nook, and the yard/property is filled with interesting statues, outdoor art, and chimes. We highly recommend this property!

Enchanted Stay
This property is magic! The beautiful collection of art from around the world, the colors, the land, the views everything was lovely. The kitchen had everything we needed. We loved spending time in the yoga pavilion as a group. There was plenty of space the spread out and find silence and plenty of space to gather as a group. If you are lucky enough to have an opportunity to spend time at Rass Mandal jump at the chance. Richard was very communicative. We can’t wait to go back!

Wonderful House! Great energy!!!!
What a cool house this is!! Every detail is like walking through an art gallery. If you’re a yogi you will certainly appreciate the deities and studio space on the property. Richard has taken a lot of care in offering a sanctuary to vacation in.

Fairytale Castle
We were very pleased with this property. Our five year old loved "the princess room" and there was plenty of room for our family of 10. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and sauna as well as the dining room for all 10 of us. Richard was wonderful.

June Stay
The property was as depicted and worked well fora group of women celebrating a birthday. Owner was very responsive and was gracious enough to provide excellent recommendations as to restaurants. The only suggestion I would make is if the owner needs to visit the property while guests are there a simple text to advise would be appreciated!!!
