About this bed and breakfast
Welcome to Multnomah House, a classic Portland guest home located in the central city. Built in 1904 this home maintains all historic charm but with the amenities of a modern home. Perfect for visitors who want the convenience and close proximity to all Portland has to offer with the quaintness of one of Portland’s oldest historic neighborhoods.
Multnomah House is located in near the Oregon Convention Center, the MAX Lloyd Station and shopping and entertainment along NE Broadway.
Whether you’re in Portland for a vacation, convention, wedding or other event, you and your group will feel right at home. During summer months, you can enjoy the front porch and Mediterranean garden or in the winter sit in the living room and enjoy the gas fireplace. The main house is where you’ll be staying while the ground level unit is occupied by the owner.
The kitchen is large and classic with subway tile wainscoting and beautiful fixtures. Completely stocked with all the items needed to prepare your meal de jour. Modern feature like a dishwasher and microwave also provided for real life demands.
There are two bathrooms. On the main floor, experience the life of the modern Turkish bath house. Toilet, sink and large double shower. Upstairs is a toilet, sink and a large claw foot tub/shower.
Formal dining room, living room and tv room will make you feel right at home.
There are 4 rooms, with two full and two queen size beds. One room with a queen size bed also has a full futon.
Summers can be enjoyed on the full size front porch, enjoying the Mediterranean garden.
We have a no pets policy and outside noise after 10pm is not allowed in keeping with our good neighbor agreement. Being a two unit home, some sound will travel between the ground level unit and the main floor of the house similar to staying at a hotel or living in a condo. Getting to the main home requires climbing 18 steps so this may be a consideration for some in your group. All bedrooms are located on the top floor of the house.
Some of the amenities mentioned in older reviews may no longer be available.
We want you to have a memorable trip so please ask for recommendations or items that you’ll need during your stay. We’ll do our best to accommodate you and enjoy sharing our city with visitors.

I stayed here with a group of 8 women for a weekend getaway. The bathrooms are fabulous - I love the wall paper and one of the showers is practically a room!! I don’t know how easily it could sleep 10 adults as that would entail some couch sleepers or sharing a Full size bed. Overall it was great!!

Really beautiful large historic house. Very functional and walking distance to Portland activities. Comfortable furniture and lots of little details where a lot of thought was put in. We really enjoyed our stay! Hosts communicated well and made our stay great.

The house was perfect and gave a lot of time for our team to connect and talk. The house is in a really peaceful neighborhood and the owners were awesome. Great communication. If we are in Portland again we will be reaching out!

Our family enjoyed our stay in this comfy home. Plenty of room to hang out in the living room, and everything we needed for cooking meals at “home.” Nice stay.

Beautiful house - it was the perfect place to stay with family and friends! We also really enjoyed the neighbourhood of interesting houses and gardens, fun restaurants and pubs and cocktail bars within walking distance, and easy access to wider Portland attractions. The host was also really nice and available if we needed anything!

We had a great stay here as a mini college reunion for a friend's wedding! The location was perfect with most things either walkable or only a short ride away. The house itself is a bit older but in great condition. The kitchen and downstairs bathroom were both fantastic - we all wanted to wait to use the downstairs bathroom to shower because it was so nice. Will is very nice and responsive and left clear instructions for us as well as helpful guides. The only critiques are small and wouldn't stop us from staying here again at all: 1) the sound travels through the house with some creaky doors and floorboards, 2) there was only 1 futon although the listing says 2 (we thought we would need both when we booked but someone canceled so it didn't matter so we never said anything), and 3) the TV is limited to very basic options (we just wanted to have some ESPN on while hanging around and couldn't). The front windows are very large and open and we had some concerns they could allow people to see in easily so we just made a point to try not to leave anything that looked valuable in the living room. We never got the sense that the neighborhood was dangerous or anything though. Overall, great stay at a great house!

The house was everything our group of 9 needed! It was spacious with lots of places to gather our group as well. It was within walking distance to everything we wanted and bus access to downtown for everything else. The city and transit were easy to navigate and Will was a fantastic host!

We had family of all ages coming to Portland for a family reunion during our 2022 Christmas vacation and got hit with ice rain and freezing temperatures on one end and dangerously high winds on the other.
Our host, Will, was a great communicator before we arrived and during our stay. He thoughtfully set out extra bedding for our group and when the weather went haywire and some of our party got stuck indoors during the high winds at the end of the stay, he generously gave them extra time to leave when it was safe for travel again.
The property itself had everything we needed. A great kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, a variety of spaces to socialize, fun & functional bathrooms, and we loved the decor (especially old maps of Portland). The location was perfect for us - centrally located and close enough to everything we needed.
Thank you again, Will, for making a complicated family trip full of possible pitfalls one filled with happy memories and memorable experiences. 5 stars!

We stayed in Will's home for Thanksgiving this year and it was an excellent place to host. The kitchen was outfitted with everything you'd need (including a Kitchenaid mixer and extra large oven) and the location was close to several supermarkets, great coffee spots, and some bars and restaurants. Will was super helpful and welcoming and took extra care to ensure we'd have a pleasant stay. We were 7 adults and one child and everyone was very comfortable.

We really enjoyed staying in this home. We arrived late on our first night and had a little trouble finding parking due to our arrival time but had no problems checking in. Parking near the house was easier during the daytime hours. The house had everything we needed and the owner was very friendly and easy to work with.

A group of us from work stayed here to attend a conference at the Portland Convention Center. It was a lovely home and in walking distance to many restaurants, cafes, and bakeries.
The house was very clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and plenty of towels and blankets for our group. The host Will was very friendly, responsive, and helpful.
I would love to bring my family to stay at this home in Portland next time.

The property was as advertised. The home has been restored or maintained to it’s 1904 origins. The location allowed easy access to downtown as well as many other attractions. Our stay was very enjoyable.

Great family vacation
Having never been to the Portland area, I researched for weeks to find the right place for our family of 10 adults to stay. I can say I most certainly picked the right place for us. It was roomy enough for all of us, close enough for us all to walk to food/drinks etc. Close proximity to the mall was a plus. The front porch was a very popular gathering spot. Will was a fantastic host with suggestions and was very responsive. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to experience Portland's neighborhoods either by foot or by car. Street parking was plentiful I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks Will!

Beautiful home, centrally located
We loved this historic and comfortable property, within easy walking distance of many interesting spots and destinations. Will, the host, was very helpful and responsive. Definitely a great choice for our larger family group - we especially appreciated the big, vintage feel kitchen (plus dishwasher, yay!). The living room had generous seating options, and the big front porch was a definite plus. Thank you, Will!

Sullivan’s Gulch
This Victorian house was perfect for our large group traveling to Portland. The house was very clean. Although we didn’t get to meet the owners we were able to keep in touch via messaging if we had any questions and he was very helpful. Uber was super convenient since we were so close to everything. Thank you so much and maybe look forward to renting this beautiful home again.

Great for Groups
I rented this house to throw my childhood best friend a bachelorette party! The house is decorated so well and it’s really quite large! Everywhere we went that needed an uber was only about 10 minutes max. There is a lot of stuff walking distance and we even drove to the beach one day which was only about 30 minutes. You can’t beat this location. Our bride had an amazing time and all of the guests fit very comfortably. Would definitely stay here again. Will was a very pleasant host and even stopped by to welcome us. Really love the vibe.

We loved this house, Will, and Portland
A group of us rented Will's house for a conference. Its close proximity to the conference center meant we could walk to and from each day, which worked well. The house is so charming. Everything is restored and decorated tastefully. Will made sure we had everything we needed--extra blankets, another table, a bottle of wine--to feel at home. As in so many areas in Portland currently, there was construction across the street which woke us up early one morning. Will talked to the crew and came back with details of what we could expect the next few days, which were much quieter. I am a light sleeper and Will offered to refund us all our money if we needed to move which I appreciated but am SO thankful we didn't need to move because staying here felt special. All week my friends spoke glowingly about how beautiful the house was, how attentive Will was, and what a good job I did in finding it. I couldn't agree more!

Right on the transportation line, it was incredibly easy to navigate from the airport, to Will's, and all around town. House was in great shape, cosy, with a lot of character.

Roomy and comfy for the holidays
Six of us, ranging in age from 11 to 76, stayed in Will's home over Christmas. We cooked virtually every meal in the kitchen (and only set off the smoke alarm once!), ate our meals and played MANY games and rounds of cards at the beautiful large dining table, had a giant puzzle going on the living room coffee table, and even caught a few zzz's on the sofas. For those of you traveling with old folks or others who can't manage stairs, the main level bedroom and giant bathroom are perfect; and the rest of us created our own level upstairs. Will was terrific and flexible both at check-in and check-out, and particularly with respect to some unexpected very early Sunday morning construction noise that woke us all up before 7am. The house is older and has its quirks (don't run the microwave and the toaster simultaneously!), but we got used to it in no time. Highly recommend!

Fabulous old house with period furniture conveniently located within walking distance of everything!
We spent the Thanksgiving holiday with our three generational family and loved the property! Will, the owner, met the first family to arrive to ensure they were comfortable in the house. Our family of six adults and five children (ages 18 months to fit 11 yrs old) fit very comfortably in the five bedrooms. The small TV room was perfect for the kids. We walked to the grocery store, coffee shops, and the park. There were several bars we didn't visit just a short walk away, too.
For large family get-togethers, the Multnomah House was ideal and if we return to Portland, we will definitely consider staying there again.

Charming, large family home
This is a terrific house, located in an interesting, vibey neighbourhood. Beautiful furniture and carpets, well cared for. Will was very easy to work with, and generously refunded the charges for two night when, for reasons beyond his control, the city permitted noisy construction at 4 am.
I highly recommend the property, and the owners.

Comfy Historical Getaway
Great house! loved the historic feel. Was able to accommodate our large party with great ease. Kitchen was large and water was so good. There’s no drinking faucet water where I’m from. Was able to take advantage of the bbq grill out back in the garden area. Beds were comfortable and rooms were large.
Perfect location for down town entertainment. Bikes were a bonus too. Owner was super nice and very accommodating to our check in. If I had one complaint it was the construction noice. If the windows were closed it was tolerable but don’t think you’re going to sleep in. Hopefully they will be done before my next visit cause I would stay here again.

Great Property, Great Owner - Very Flexible!
We had 13 people staying here - everyone was comfortable! The property was very clean and in great shape. The owner was very flexible with meeting us and very accommodating (I had lots of questions - this was my first time using VRBO). House is in a great neighborhood with a nice breakfast place just a few minute walk away (Cadillac). If I come back to Portland - I will definitely be coming back!

Excellent, memorable and comfortable home!
This house is fantastic! We came to Portland for the first time to see my niece graduate from PSU with her Phd. We had to rely on pictures and communique with Will, the owner, to determine if this place was our best option to accommodate our large family (ranging from age 4 to age 74), every room was full! The pictures posted enabled us to plan accordingly and the correspondence with Will (I sent many emails with many questions) enabled us to determine we were right where we needed to be. Will was accommodating, helpful and kind. The house was beautiful, charming, had everything we needed and then some! The house was very clean, the beds were comfortable, linens were plentiful, kitchen was stocked, coffee houses, restaurants, transportation all nearby and within walking distance! Something we are not used to in Phoenix! We enjoyed sitting on the patio for hours as well as gathering in the lush backyard and watching the kids play. In short, it was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, in fact we took family portraits on the front steps with the beautiful historic house as our background. Our stay was perfect from start to finish. We are hoping for another opportunity or reason to come back and stay here in the near future!

Great house and location
I stayed with a group of 7 and there was plenty of room for all of us. The house is a beautiful 1900s built home. The colorful paint made it easy to identify! The house was minutes to downtown and some great coffee and restaurants a few streets north. We would stay here again.

This was a great place for a Seattle-based crew to have a bachelor party. Just a few minutes from DT, everyone was happy with the location. We also had 16 guys and everyone slept comfortably.

My family and I spent the Xmas holidays in Portland at Will's fantastic house in Irvington. We were there for a week, and really enjoyed our stay. The house is very comfortable and much larger than we thought it would be from looking at the pictures. The kitchen has all the needed amenities, and is beautifully designed and decorated.
The house is walking distance to all public transportation, and during our stay we did not need a car. The house is also very close to Lloyd's Center, where we went shopping and ice skating during our stay. We also walked to the Rose Garden and Coliseum to watch a Blazers and Winterhawks game. Everything is either a short walk, or light rail trip away.
I highly recommend staying in this house, and there is a very good chance that we will stay there again in the near future.

What happens when five colleagues from various cities in North America meet in Portland for the first time? They stop being polite and start agreeing the Multnomah house, and Portland, are awesome.
The house was perfect for us. Beautiful common space, sizable private rooms and large kitchen. Great value and super responsive owner.
33% of those who stayed have decided to move to Portland. For realz.

A big thank you to Will for giving us this opportunity to stay in his gorgeous house. We all felt so at home. So spacious with very beautiful decor. What a treat! It is in such a great location too. It was truly the perfect place where my family and friends could all spend time together. I would not hesitate to come back.

My sisters arrived from around the US just before I did and were all relaxing on the comfy large sofa in the living room when I arrived. They were thrilled with my choice of house!! I continued to get lots of kudos throughout our stay there, but here are some for Will, the owner, who has created and maintains a perfect place for a large family gathering (there were 11 of us staying there and several others who hung out there from time to time). The house was everything and more that the photos promised. The location is very convenient for walking and driving to nearby shops. The teenagers loved being able to walk on their own for coffee and snacks and even went down to the skating rink at the nearby shopping mall.
Will was very welcoming. We have lived in Portland before, so didn't need much info, but he made sure we knew he was available if needed.
The kitchen worked well for a large group. Everyone especially loved the beautiful downstairs shower.
I would highly recommend this house for a family gathering like ours or for several couples.
Nearby places we liked are Costello's Travel Cafe for coffee and small meals, the wine store on NE Broadway, Lloyd Center Mall skating rink. It is a bit of trek, but you can walk to downtown Portland from the house the Steel Bridge and the Esplanade.
5.0 / 10.0
The house worked out great for our group of six from all over the country. Plenty of room for everyone, with enough bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy. The beds were comfortable, the heating system worked well and wasn't too loud. There's plenty of light even on overcast days. Plus, the location is great - a mile from great trails for running/biking, easy walk to restaurants and Safeway. Very close to the Max to get everywhere else.
