About this house rental
READ OUR REVIEWS … OUR GUESTS SAY IT BEST.
You’ll find this architecturally distinctive and art-filled Santa Fe-style home tucked under shady oaks on a cliff overlooking the Barton Creek greenbelt at the end of a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac in Central Austin minutes from downtown.
Located in Barton Hills, one of Austin's most desirable neighborhoods, the house is a mere 10-minute walk or 5-minute drive to the “soul of Austin” … the 1000 ft long natural Barton Springs Pool nestled in Zilker Metropolitan Park.
Zilker Park is 350 acres of natural beauty and the annual site of the world-famous Austin City Limits Music Festival, as well as other popular events such as Blues On The Green and musicals at Zilker Hillside Theatre. In the park and nearby you’ll also find Zilker Botanical Gardens, the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, Zachary Scott Theatre, bike rentals, kayak/paddle board/canoe rentals, and convenient and tasty “Restaurant Row” on Barton Springs Road.
Upon arrival at our home, you’ll enter antique Mexican doors into a large, bright, colorful open living space overlooking the comfortable patio and gorgeous Barton Creek greenbelt.
You’ll see a collection of vibrant paintings, a big hand-painted and carved Hong Kong screen in the dining room, a colorful stemware rack over the bar, interesting furniture designs, minerals, glassworks and many other eye-catching articles. A very nice Yamaha piano also awaits if you’re musically inclined.
Expansive glass walls and sliding glass patio doors bring the view of the outdoors inside … and what a view it is!
When you step outside, you’ll appreciate that the house is perched cliff-side above the natural wonder of the Barton Creek Greenbelt. You’ll find a small, inviting lawn and sandstone steps that cascade down to breathtaking 180-degree views of the greenbelt, the tree-filled canyon walls across the way, and Barton Creek below. If you walk a little farther toward the greenbelt, you’ll find nice seasonal views of the UT Tower and parts of the Austin skyline to the north and east. And if you’re visiting in December, you’ll see the 3,000 lights of the 155-foot tall Zilker Holiday Tree, a place that people enjoy visiting for an evening’s after-dinner entertainment.
The covered back porch invites you and your group to relax and visit out-of-doors, sharing morning coffee and breakfast, listening to birdsong and watching acrobatic squirrels chase one another through the trees. You may even see a roadrunner who lives somewhere below. In the evening you’ll partake of dinner and drinks on the porch or the lower open patio. You may hear a coyote call from the Greenbelt or a chorus of frogs and cicadas in the summertime. Twin outdoor ceiling fans keep you cool and comfortable on the porch after sundown.
Back inside, you’ll walk from the living area down four short steps into the large master suite with a comfortable queen-size bed, a collection of comfortable pillows, good bedside reading lamps, a nice remote-controlled ceiling fan, a large dresser with ample drawers, a rack for your hanging garments with plenty of hangers, and its own door and view out to the patio.
The en-suite master bath has separate his & her vanities, a shower for two with glass walls on one side for a private view out to the greenbelt. If you’re shy, don’t worry … there’s a exterior curtain you can close from inside the shower for privacy.
A large washer and dryer, plus cleaning supplies and more hanging space are behind closed doors in the master bathroom.
The second bedroom is fitted with two comfortable twin beds, good reading lights, a ceiling fan and a spacious closet with plenty of hangers.
Next door, you’ll find a modern guest bathroom with cool travertine floors and walls, a glass-walled walk-in shower, and a floor-to-ceiling mirrored wall.
The vanities in both bathrooms are a rare green quartzite, chosen to reflect the color of our beloved Barton Springs. This home was thoughtfully built and arranged to blend beautifully with the site.
Our office does double duty as a third bedroom with a full-size sofa bed custom-made by American Leather in Dallas. Its patented Comfort Sleeper system is so comfortable, several of our past guests have purchased one after sleeping on ours.
in less than ten minutes you can drive to Whole Foods Flagship Store, Trader Joe’s Central Market and other grocery stores. Travel in virtually any direction and within 10 minutes you will find a variety of shopping opportunities, from Barton Creek Square Mall. (Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillards, Apple Store, etc.) to beloved individual proprietorships such as Book People (rated one of the best independent booksellers in the US) and Waterloo Records, seller of vinyl LPs and CDs, and Julian Gold (ladies clothing).
This radius also includes varied and vibrant downtown between Lamar and Congress north of Ladybird Lake to 6th St, and shopping/dining/ entertainment districts including South Congress, and South Lamar. East Austin is a hopping area as well.
It’s less than a fifteen-minute drive to the Texas State Capitol, the University of Texas and Longhorn Games at Memorial Stadium.
You’re only a short 20-minute drive to and from Austin Bergstrom International Airport, and with our easy access to all of Austin’s major highways, you’re quickly on the way to anywhere else in town, and beyond.
If you’re going out on the town, you won’t want to miss the best and oldest honkey tonk in Texas, The Broken Spoke on South Lamar, or the delightful dance hall, Donn’s Depot, just north of the river on 5th St. for some robust and authentic fun.

Fun house with great location!
We rented this property for ACL Fest 2021 and it was great! The location was awesome. Very easy walk to Zilker. All the decor was fun and funky. The backyard is so private and beautiful. The owners provided a packet of useful information regarding the house and the area and were very responsive before, during and after our stay. The house had everything we needed.....plus!

Fabulous location
You just couldn't ask for a better location - backing up to the greenbelt for fabulous views, sunsets and even the UT Tower! Easy walk to Barton Springs pool and Zilker and even Chuy's and Shady Grove! Lovely friendly neighborhood. House has it's own amazing style - beautiful objects and art. Masterbath shower has full plate glass window (with privacy shade if you prefer), no shower door, no bathroom door and master bedroom slider looks across the beautiful patio and into the living room. Third 'bedroom' is a den with a pullout bed, as stated in the listing, and the pull out is quite comfortable - but only privacy is a curtain from the living room. Privacy is a conscience effort in this house. And, as others have noted, no hanging closet space (one rack with a dozen hangars in the hallway) no dresser space (two VERY small drawers in master bedroom) so if you stay for very long unpacking is a challenge.
But all the beds are super comfortable, linens are soft and wonderful, a whole stack of pillows to choose from and fully stocked toliet paper, papertowels, laundry detergent and even coffee and creamer. Such wonderful thoughtful things to have available. Alden was super easy to work with and always available when needed. Hate to write such a glowing review as want this beautiful house with it's amazing patio and views to be available for us to return.

The perfect stay!
We loved everything about this home. From the kind and attentive hosts, to the beautiful decor, this house is the best! Such a convenient location to everywhere you want to go. We stayed for the second weekend of ACL fest and our family enjoyed the walks to Zilker. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Location to Austin
The property was in a great location, clean and nice outdoor area to gather to talk and relax.
The home has way to many personal items and clutter. There was no where to hang clothes and all the drawers were full of items of the owners.
There were so many dishes in the kitchen we could not reach to the back or even middle to get the glass most suited for our beverage.
When you rent a place you really do not need all the stuff this place has, they appear to be Estate Sale Shoppers. Too much for my taste. Simple is better.

A fascinating home, situated within a short walk to Barton Springs Pool and Zilker park
The home is full of charm, and situated in the Barton Hills area. The colorful Southwest vibe extends throughout the home. The decor is eclectic, ranging from fossils to fabulous mineral specimens, and from modern art to funky cool glassware.
Our family of 9 - several of whom live close by- gathered at the house, and we were able to enjoy dinner on the outdoor patio overlooking the Barton Springs Greenbelt. All enjoyed the home and surroundings immensely.
The home is situated within a 15 minute walk to Barton Springs pool, and a few minutes more brings you to Zilker Park, Ladybird Lake, and great views of Downtown Austin just across the water.
Highly recommended as a fine place to stay in Austin. I know we will be back.

Lovely home, very nicely appointed and welcoming owners! Highly recommend.
Beautiful home and enjoyed being in a wonderful neighborhood with a secluded and peaceful atmosphere. GREAT location which made a big diff for our stay. It would be 5 stars if the other bedroom had comfy beds and the office bed was also more comfortable. The master bedroom was perfect with an amazing shower that felt like you were outdoors with large open and private windows. A water feature (hot tub, pool) was missed being in TX even during Springtime, we would have really enjoyed being able to sun and cool off now and then. Even so we made it to Barton Springs Pool a few times to make up for that. The hosts are very responsive and cared about our experience. Best for a couple or family of 4.

Beautifully decorated home!
The Schiller's home is a beautiful property and has so many works of art we kept noticing new ones all week. It was the perfect place for the 6 of us to spend the week of my brothers wedding. They had everything ready for us and even bought some extra clothes hangars we requested. The terrace outside is as beautiful as the pictures. There was room for all of us to sleep comfortably, have family time and for my husband to have some private space to work in the morning. We would definitely stay there again next time we visit!

Beautiful home in great neighborhood
This is such a lovely, charming home in my favorite area of Austin. The hosts were laid back and accommodating. It’s very close to Zilker Park and everything you want to see in Central Austin, but in a secluded neighborhood. The home’s decor is unique, artistic and very ‘Austin’. Clean, private and cozy with a great woodsy view; the kind of house I dream to own someday. Thank you!

Fantastic home in fantastic location
We have stayed in many VRBO homes around the country and abroad, but this amazing home in Austin tops them all! The house is beautiful and the setting is perfect. The deck and back yard is secluded and serene. The whole place is like your own private sanctuary. Yet you are literally just minutes from Zilker Park, Barton Springs, and downtown Austin. We had our bikes with us and we took daily rides to all those locations. And to top everything off, Alden and Barbara are the most gracious and accommodating hosts!

Fantastic location!! Comfortable and pleasant atmosphere.
We had a wonderful week staying here. This is our third trip to Austin for family get together while staying at a HomeAway location, and we plan to return to this house next year. The location is fantastic if you have multiple ages. Nearby Zilker park is great for a nice run or walk. Barton Springs has the swimming area right next to a great playground for kids. Kayak rental right there too. All in walking distance! Downtown just a little bit more of a hike or a very quick drive.
House was great too. Eclectic and fun vibe with comfortable open plan living. Beautiful back yard. Just make sure to bring bug spray if you’re visiting in wet season.😄

Our family enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. It was well equipped with Linens, Towels and everything you need in a kitchen for cooking. It was in a nice quiet neighborhood and close to downtown Austin and many other local places. The owners were very friendly and included a nice information packet on the house and recommendations on places to go visit and places to dine out. We definitely would stay here again on future Texas visits. Thank You for sharing your beautiful home!

The photos do not do the house justice. The living room is a very spacious 'open concept'. Fantastic patio and very quiet neighborhood. Convenience store a few blocks away and plenty of other grocery stores nearby. Barton Springs pool is a quick 10 minute walk.
The owners are very friendly, accommodating and hospitable.
I would HIGHLY recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Schillers' house in Zilker for almost a week during wedding festivities in the Zilker neighborhood for my son and his bride.
The Schillers' property could not have been more perfect for the four of us on the "rehearsal dinner advance team."
The location was perfect -- convenient to everything we planned to do. The Friday night rehearsal dinner was at Zilker Club House; the Saturday night wedding was at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, and on Sunday we had breakfast tacos at Torchy's, swam in the Barton Springs pool, drove north for dinner at Uchiko, and returned to downtown to watch the bats at sunset fly from the Congress Avenue Bridge. We enjoyed walks in the neighborhood every day -- green and safe.
Since we were in wedding mode, Alden set up (without having been asked) an extra clothing rack in the hall -- very helpful! All of our communications were easy, honest, and hospitable.
We used the two bedrooms and the study with the extraordinarily comfortable sofa bed. We had everything we needed.
It's impossible to convey how interesting and delightful we found the Schillers' interior decor, their collections of original art and minerals, or how lovely the terraced outdoor spaces in the rear of the house.
We'd book again, but would hope to meet Alden and Barbara in person this time. Their house and their hospitality really felt like a home away from home!

We rented this house for a reunion among a group of girlfriends from graduate school and it was perfect for our needs! The house is lovely, with beautiful outdoor space and very close to Barton Springs. The study served well enough as a third bedroom with the pullout couch and the kitchen was well equipped. Communicating with the owners was easy and pleasant and they were very accommodating. I would definitely book again if I was in the Austin area!

Our family celebrated Thanksgiving at this beautiful home. A perfect place for such an occasion. The home is artistically decorated and absolutely well equipped. All we needed were our own food to cook and accompanying beverages. The location is superb, nestled on a hill, overlooking a small "forest" of live oak and other greenery. There are terraced sitting areas with lovely views. The owners were very helpful and provided excellent information as needed. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this rental.

Exceptional, well equipped house/home in a high cliff area close to downtown and local parks. We and our long time friends from NYC had a great time. Owners are very accommodating, hope to return in the future. On this trip we rented 3 different homes in the hill country and this house was by far the best.

It's a beautiful home, very spacious. The home is right near Barton springs pool & Zilker park, & very close to downtown Austin. We stayed for 3 nights during ACL. We were really close to Zilker park, and able to walk to the festival each day. The outdoor patio is awesome with several levels, a large dining table & sitting area on one level, & a fire pit below on a lower level with more seating areas. Definitely going to stay here again.
