Colwell Cottage is only a five-minute walk to Brevard’s restaurants, art galleries, breweries, coffee shops, bakeries and a movie theater. It is a few blocks farther to the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District, where you can listen to live music at 185 King Street, enjoy a beer at Squatch or dine at Magpie Meat & Three.
Brevard Music Center is less than 2 miles away. You can hike, bike or drive there from the cottage and enjoy our talented students and other well-known musicians June-August.
Franklin Park and the public swimming pool are also a walkable distance from downtown.
It is seven-minute drive to the entrance to Pisgah National Forest, where you can experience world class trout fishing, mountain biking, hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls. You can even take a dip in one of its many swimming holes.
Pisgah Forest contains the National Park Service’s Cradle of Forestry. Its visitor center offers interactive exhibits, films, and special events, as well as two paved interpretive trails. Several miles farther you can enjoy beautiful vistas along the Blue Ridge Parkway and dine at Pisgah Inn, with its scenic overlook of the mountains.
An enjoyable 25-minute drive will take you to Dupont State Forest for hiking or mountain biking on some of its 80 miles trails. Among the Forest’s many waterfalls, don’t miss Triple Falls, a 150-foot high waterfall featuring three cascades, or High Falls, a 120-foot high waterfall crowned with a covered bridge.
Thirty minutes away is Sierra Nevada Taproom, with farm-to-table dishes and a wonderful back porch offering live music. The brewery has been family-owned since the 1960’s and now has a national reputation. You can book a free tour of this impressive facility online.
In another direction, it is a 45-minute drive to the Flat Rock Playhouse, where you can enjoy Broadway-level plays at North Carolina’s state theater.
It is about an hour’s drive to Asheville with its River Arts District, the historic Grove Park Inn, and the renowned Biltmore Estate.

If you’re considering Colwell Cottage for a trip to Brevard, and need close proximity to downtown and the music park, look no further. We found the property to be quiet, spotless, and thoughtfully appointed. The beds were clean and comfortable, and we slept like babies after spending the days out at the Mountain Song festival.
Our host was also gracious and responsive, and generously allowed us a late checkout as we were trying to coordinate family staying at multiple locations. It was a very kind gesture that made our day, and helped us enjoy our limited time together. Thank you, I hope we’ll be back!

We had a wonderful time. The house was very clean and well equipped. Loved our stay!

The house was quite comfortable, located in a quiet area convenient to the Brevard Music Center our primary destination in the area.

This is a cute little property just a short drive to the downtown Brevard area. We found the most amazing BBQ dive up across the street called Blue Smoke BBQ or now Smoke on BBQ. We would highly recommend this property. It had only one very small bathroom for having 3 bedrooms but it that does not bother you the place is great.

This property was perfect to get away to North Carolina. Checkin was super easy and Brenda was available whenever we had a question. We will definitely rent again from them when we return. Thanks so much for a getaway!

The photo of a creek was deceptive as it was a stream that has trash in it. Neighborhood is small rental homes and the neighbors were quiet
Bathroom was clean but tiny and not much space for toiletries. Kitchen was very nice. Beds were ok but be warned… small. Sheets were great. Some things in listing not accurate like the tv and a PlayStation without controllers. Walking to Brevard possible but not that easy to do. Vrbo hosts are asking guests to do more cleaning We were notified before checkout to strip beds, take trash already over filled trash cans and place in front, Start laundry of sheets. Dishwasher and clean out fridge are standard requests but getting a notice before checking out with a warning if u don’t do everything requested will result in you losing your deposit. We paid for cleaning yet this felt a bit much and reading other reviews I see we aren’t alone. It had a nice well stocked kitchen and is clean. Listing said no kids. But guest book has families with 4 kids signed in. Nice small house will work for folks that are ok with that and don’t mind getting chores before departing

Nice small home in a convenient location to downtown Brevard. The owner provided a good array of basics, soaps, shampoos, paper towels, etc. Beds are very comfortable, kitchen has everything you need. A little tight if you have only adults staying in the home, but doable. I recommend this property!

Cottage location was very convenient.
Plenty of blankets, etc.
Keurig was a welcome addition!
Only Bathroom could be larger. There was not much room to leave any personal products in the bathroom.

The house was beautiful and very clean. The kitchen had everything you need to cook and had coffee and extra condiments. It was so easy to jump right into our vacation. The beds were comfortable and we couldn't have asked for a better stay. We loved the fire pit and there was even sticks for the marshmellows and marshmellows provided.
Thank you so much for a great weekend getaway..

The house was very nicely updated and was very clean. We enjoyed being able to walk into town. It is not in the forest, but the ability to walk to town was more beneficial than views for us.

We had never been to Brevard, and this cabin did not disappoint! It was beautiful inside, and the scenery was superb. I enjoyed the open concept. The kitchen was amazing and stocked with everything you may need. Three bedrooms meant no room-sharing for my boys. They loved that! The cabin was well maintained, and very clean. The yard was big enough for the boys to run around, and we all really enjoyed the fire pit! I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who is thinking about visiting this gem of a town! 10/10

'Familyversary'
We combined our 44th anniversary with Bloody Saturday so my husband, son, and grandson could trout fish. The fact that it was The White Squirrel Festival was an added bonus. Colwell Cottage was immaculate and although we really only slept there, as we have friends in Lake Toxaway and Rosman, it was perfect for our family. We would definitely come here again!

We had a great time in Brevard. This cozy house has been nicely remodeled and it met our every need. We will definitely try to book this same house the next time we come back.

Stay away and do not trust.
Host falsely accused our group of damaging property and causing unnecessary delays in turn-around of property for next guests. Host provided no such basis or proof for these false allegations.
Politley responed by informing host that our group of four read through check out instructions which included: doing dishes, emptying and taking out the trash, removing all food from refrigerator (which we did along with previous guest's food so we wouldn't be charged for that), putting remotes for tv back on table, and adjusting ac/heating temp controls to 72 degrees.
In spite of doing all this, we received message from host stating:
"Checkout instructions were not followed creating a delay to have place ready for next guest. We (sic) have more than 4 guest as reservation stated and found couch armrest broken."
Politley responded by stating the reservation (which is easy to verify) was for four people which is why four beds were used. That all checkout instruction were followed and If linens were supposed to be put in laundry then that was an honest oversight on our part, but did not constitute a $250 fine. Additionally, nothing was broken during our stay. That we were not in the cottage during the day. That all we did was sleep there after coming back from the day's activities.
Never received a response or pictures of any supposed broken items. Today was charged $250 and still no response. Have filed a formal complaint with VRBO.
Word to the wise. Video everything when you arrive at your stay and video everything when you leave at the end of your stay. I have heard this kind of nonsense is starting to become all too common.
Stay away and do not trust.

Can't recommend this place as we never even got inside.
After prepaying for this place WEEKS in advance, AND being offered NO refund options if we canceled AND even though we received the door code the night before and assumed all was well, when we arrived we COULD NOT GET INTO THE HOUSE. AT ALL. We'd driven 8 hours and needed facilities and refrigeration and I was planning to cook the food I'd brought with us. Also an enormous thunderstorm was rolling in. After trying the door too many times, I wrote the owner on the vrbo site. They did not respond. My husband called the main line on vrbo and they apparently reached the owner, who called us 15 minutes later. He said the house was in no way cleaned or sanitized. He said he thought we were coming the NEXT night, though that is ridiculous, especially when calendar and hundreds of dollars stand to prove he had no reason to not be accountable. He said he would pay for a hotel only if we would let him keep our money and go to his house the next day. By then, the SIX of us were done with him and we requested a refund. He did refund, but on the vrbo reason, he listed that HE had canceled on US and he said the reason was a LABOR SHORTAGE which is nothing but excuses and bs to cover his error. It would have been MUCH better save of face to tell the truth and apologize, but as he told us this was the "first time we've ever made a mistake like this" it's clear he knew he was in the wrong but also clear he was too cowardly to own the mistake.
From our car in the pouring rain, we called several hotels who were all booked (as we were guaranteed arrival at 4pm at the vrbo and this was happening closer to 7pm, of course places were booked!!!) But we found a place at the holiday Inn express and the manager gave us quick service and a discount on two rooms, since no hotel room is big enough for 6! He apologized on the vrbo person's behalf too. As this was our first trip to Brevard, NC, we were not fans at the onset! I had to use a tiny fridge and microwave, and had to go get MORE groceries because the ones I had were designed for an actual kitchen that I thought I had bought with my non refundable vrbo payment!! Cooking this way for a family of 6 is not relaxing or vacation. It was an absolutely exhausting experience.

Immaculate and comfortable
Three women ages 65 to 81 enjoyed having our own bedrooms.
State of the art kitchen and comfortable living room.
Couldn't quite figure out tv settings to pull up news/weather, but not a real problem.
Brevard was very welcoming.
My only issue was that I'm a diminutive 4'7", and the beds are very high. Had to pull the small ottoman into the bedroom to climb into the twin bed. Might be an issue for young children.
Otherwise, perfect and will plan on staying there again.

Nice place in a great location
This rental was well worth the price. Bathroom is a little tight, but other than that the house is very nicely renovated. Quiet neighborhood just on the edge of downtown Brevard. We would definitely stay here again!

A great little cabin
It was very clean and they just had such nice touches like coffee and common condiments. My kids loved the suckers and popcorn. The kitchen was organized and well thought through. It was a great place to stay and I loved the healthy cleaning produce!

Convenient and clean
Very convenient walking distance of downtown, and one of the cleanest rentals I’ve ever been in. It’s a bit cozy small in the bedroom/bathroom area but a very enjoyable place to stay!

Beautiful home
The home was beautiful. The owner had beautiful floral arrangements for our arrival. The house was clean. The owners did a fabulous job of remodeling the home, but if you are looking for a property that has the creek that is in the picture and description you will be very disappointed. There is no privacy at this home. The neighbors are very noisy and the creek is grown up and what we were able to see had trash, and old tires in it. We would definitely stay here again but with different expectations.

Cute house
The house was well designed and the interior was beautiful. Although the listing says you can walk to the shops and restaurants, we thought it was a bit far for the young children with us. The distance was about .5 miles but it is hilly, as one would expect in the mountains.
We had some issues with Apple TV. The owners were not logged in. Brenda provided us with their direct TV information but that did not fix the issue. Brenda was responsive to our complaints, however, we never resolved the problem. We mostly just wanted to watch the news in the morning.
Overall, we liked the house and enjoyed Brevard.

Colwell Cottage
We actually got to town a little earlier than expected and had lunch (I highly suggest Magpie's!) and shopped around. We went to find the house and we were still a little early. Brenda showed up just as we did and she could not have been more accommodating! She allowed us to check in a little earlier than we anticipated. She gave us some pointers on the tv and where things were (I have never rented and have the owner so generous...fresh towels, linens on the bed, even snacks for us!). The house was immaculately clean. We really enjoyed the stay.

Perfect place, perfect weekend! Thank you!

Nice inside.
The interior was nice. Close to downtown Brevard. Unfortunately the house has an odd setup with the proximity of the other houses that share the drive. There was a lot of teenagers in and out at odd hours at the house next door.

Relaxing, Clean, Gorgeous!!
The owner was responsive, everything was impeccably kept. Couldn't have asked for more!

Perfect weekend getaway for our family
This was the perfect spot for our family of four to celebrate my husbands birthday! Close to downtown Brevard shops and restaurants, plus 2 national parks. My kids loved the waterfall hike in DuPont Park and the white squirrel scavenger hunt at Silvermont Mansion!
The homeowners have thought of everything and then a little bit more! Most inviting welcome we've ever experienced with a VRBO home. The home is newly renovated/decorated and has all the perks. You can tell the homeowners take pride in their property and truly enjoy making their guests feel welcome. We will be back next October to do it all over again! Thank you Brenda!

Great place right in town
The house was perfect for our weekend adventure. First off, it’s got all the things and they are all in good shape, most seemed brand new even. There were plenty of towels, pans, utensils, appliances, etc. The fire pit is great and while we had rain on the night we had hoped to roast marshmallows, we found wood easily at the Ingles nearby. Highly recommend both Jordan Street Cafe and Big Mike’s Pizza for casual local fare; both were excellent. What this sweet little cottage lacks in view, it more than makes up for in proximity to downtown Brevard (2 blocks) and local hiking, which we reached within 20 min or so. Definitely recommend!!!

Clean, everything you need.
Great couple of days. Owners had little "extras" to make the stay even better. Since we were mountain biking the area, the books in the cottage from the owners also helped in finding trails. Would recommend this cottage.

Awesome Location
Very clean and well maintained home, Brenda had everything you need including a few snacks, coffee-tea, and a few other beverages, Location is within walking distance of town and not to far from Sierra Nevada Brewing, or the Pisgah National Forest.
Would definitely recommend this property.
