About this house rental
Stay in an architecturally charming house overlooking more than 800 feet of beautiful Union River Bay shoreline with uninterrupted views of Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain. The house has four bedrooms, two full baths and a double height living room with fireplace and with panoramic windows to enjoy the eastern exposure view of Union River Bay and Mt Dessert Island.
Just 30 feet from the shore, the house is so close you can hear the water lapping on the beach. Enjoy the loons, eagles, seals and other wildlife right from the expansive deck overlooking the water. The wonderful sights, sounds and experience of Maine are truly at your footsteps! The property includes more than 30 acres of beautiful nature: fields, beach and woods to explore and enjoy. Blueberries are available for picking.
The house is a wonderful example of modern cedar shake. No plain white walls inside, it's fully paneled in a natural pine that really brings home the feeling of being in Maine.
The four bedrooms and two full bathrooms are nicely split between opposite wings extending from the central living room, allowing for maximum privacy. The master bedroom has a queen bed and views of both the water and woods. The other three bedrooms are: single with twin bed, double with separate twin beds and double with two twin beds that can either be combined or separated. Rooms have water views and breezes and separately controlled heat for chilly nights.
The kitchen opens to the living room, is nicely equipped and has its own convenient entrance from the driveway. There are two decks, an expansive one overlooking the water with beach access and a smaller sun-filled one facing the woods. Easy water access from the drive for launching small watercraft.
Please note that rental periods are for a minimum of one week and the house is only booked on a weekly basis. The maximum occupancy is seven persons.

An amazing property set in the woods along a gorgeous bay. Great modern cabin with a Marge tree covered deck abutting the bay. Within 30 minutes of Acadia and several other treasures of Maine. Highly recommend.

This place was great, beautiful inside and out. On rainy days staying inside looking out at the view was very relaxing. We were close enough to enjoy Acadia National Park one day, go whale watching another. There were five of us in our group and there was plenty of space for everyone. We felt right at home.

Our family of 5, including 3 grown and almost grown kids, had a wonderful time at this lovely house. The location was fantastic and the house was very comfortable. It's clearly a much loved place and I felt honored to be able to spend some time there. I really hope we'll make it back one day!

We loved our stay at Marakanda. The property was wonderful, you are so close to the water and the views from every room and deck are perfect. The location was convenient for going into Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. Our stay was comfortable and the place has all the necessary amenities...we really felt like this was home away from home.

Marakanda
Such a beautiful, peaceful property! The layout of the house if perfect with plenty of space for a family with kids of any age. It is well stocked with books, games, puzzles, and everything you could possibly need. The owners are quick to answer questions and very accommodating. In my opinion, the star of the show is the amazing deck overlooking the bay. We spent countless hours out there watching seals, fish jumping, herons, osprey, loons and eagles. We were able to have a canoe conveniently delivered right to the door by a local outfitter and picked up when we were leaving. I would recommend this property to anyone, and hopefully will be able to return myself!

Beautiful property
The property exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect - close to Acadia and also surrounding towns of Ellsworth and Blue Hill. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back next year.

Marakanda!
A simple but beautiful home with a wonderful backstory. We really felt we were in a special place. My artist brother appreciated the unique rustic yet clean modern look. The layout worked well for our large group. My favorite moments include having breakfast on the back deck with a refreshing view of the water, as well as the amazing colors of the early morning sunrise. Would highly recommend!

Lovely modern home, peaceful setting, incredible water views
We really enjoyed our time here! Spent hours on the deck, reading or just sitting listening to and watching the waves lapping the shore, as well as hours by the fire with jigsaw puzzles and more books (great selection of both at the house). Saw bald eagles and seals every single day, including a whole host of seals leaping in and out of the water, clearly playing around. Kayaked right from the house, which was a nice treat, and enjoyed bike-riding all the way to the end of Newbury Neck Road. The dogs had a fantastic time, too, walking on the property and along the beach, munching on dried crab shells. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the beds are the most comfortable we've ever had on vacation, which was a nice treat. The (very) nearby hikes at both the Furth Wildlife Sanctuary & Talalay Nature Sanctuary and the Carter Nature Preserve were a real treat, as was the fantastic hike in nearby Brooklin at the Harriman Point Preserve. Caretakers Lee Anne and Ron were super responsive when the power went out (area outage that was restored within the hour) and the house was clean and welcoming when we arrived. Add to that a gorgeous full moon and daily sunrise over the water ... perfect vacation. So great to call Marakanda home for two full weeks!

Perfect house
The best part of our trip to Maine was this house. It's host all by itself! Gorgeous waterfront property and a prime location for kayaking (bring your own kayaks) The house was clean and set up perfect for 2 families to stay there and have privacy. The kitchen was the most well-equipped out of any rental house we have ever stayed in (Yes! They have pie plates!!). The fireplace was a great added touch, even in June as nights do get chilly. The deck is the perfect place for relaxing with coffee or wine. We saw seals, dolphins, and bald eagles all from the beach here. Just for a reference, it''s about 20-30 min away from Acadia/Bar Harbor and 5 minutes away from a lobster pound. If traveling up here again, I would recommend this property to anyone.
