About this house rental
Camden has recently been voted one of America's 20 most beautiful towns! Please read the entire description before you book your stay. This is our home. We have worked with VRBO for many years and continue to fulfill their requirements for your comfort carefully. When you write a review, please remember to tell your readers about Camden, and give details about the many shops and restaurants as well as beaches, hikes, and walks. There is so much to see and do here, and so many beautiful towns to visit, Belfast, Rockport, Rockland, Warren, and Thomaston.
Our village home is a stone's throw from Penobscot Bay. Everything is within walking distance. It is a perfect retreat for one or two couples. In this way, each couple has a whole floor of privacy and can spread out, read, watch TV, or just enjoy the view from the third-floor sitting room. There are stairs. It is a three-story house. If you are using a cane or any other device, it may be too much for you. There is no downstairs bedroom. Be sure to read all descriptions. You have everything you need to make you comfortable but it is not a hotel. It is a private home.
Pour your coffee in the morning and wander down to see the tall ships sail away and enjoy scenes of active harbor life. Then, enjoy our famous library or have a walk down Main Street to enjoy small local shops and cafes that are a part of the fabric of the town. If you are a walker, go straight down Chestnut St. and you will end up at Aldermere Farm and Rockport Harbor, or hike up to Mt. Beatty which is straight up the street behind us. Life in Camden is, truly, where the mountains meet the sea. All is within a few minute's walk.
The main floor has a fully stocked kitchen, a dining room with a fireplace, and a cozy living room, with TV access.
On the second floor, there is a large bedroom, with a queen-sized bed and a bathroom with a walk in shower, adjacent. There is one large cabinet for folded clothes. The cabinet is marked with a ribbon.
The third floor is a light, airy space with a queen-sized bed, a large wet room shower/bathroom and a lovely sitting room with a bay window overlooking Mt. Beatty. There is a cabinet for your clothes and a hanging closet. Both are marked with a ribbon. The third floor is completely private. It is almost its apartment.
Outside the kitchen door are a private patio with a charcoal barbecue and a table so that you can spend time relaxing in the fresh air while enjoying the sounds of birds and cool breezes that waft through the passage. The two rockers on the porch allow for a tea time or a space for listening to music or reading a book.
This village life of Camden is only moments from our side porch. The charm of the house is its proximity to everything and yet, has a peaceful ambiance and privacy that are not easy to find. (We would recommend Buttermilk or the Deli for breakfast, and the Waterfront, Natalie's, the rooftop bar at the Bay View Hotel, 40 Paper, Fresh, Barron's Distillery for dinner or in Rockport, Nina June's, and 18 Oyster.
Walk to Laite Beach, be a part of a friendly neighborhood, or walk to a great grocery store and live for days without getting in the car. PS. Don't miss the Stop and Go if you like beer. The owner is one the most respected beer connoisseurs in the state of Maine!
Camden is a beautiful village. Kindly, remember that summer is a busy season and we are in the center of it. You may hear some cars, children laughing, and the general presence of life in a small town.
Dave and I live in a small apartment on the property, should you need anything, we are here to help you. Our goal is that you have a lovely holiday.
Every season is magical: the long evenings of summer are glorious, incomparable autumn colors, snow fall for the holidays, and the flowers of spring. Our home in Camden has been a retreat for our family for many years and we would love to share it.
The house is professionally cleaned with eco-friendly products.
We ask that you honor check in and check out times so that we can do our best for you. You may check in at 3PM and check out is at 10AM.
as described by one of our guests...
My family and I stayed in this home for two weeks this past summer, and it is the most ideal house in the most perfect location. We adored it! We have traveled extensively in the US and throughout Europe, but this is at the top of the list of where we want to return. The house is utterly charming--so comfortable, fully renovated, completely equipped kitchen, the ideal place to come "home" to each and every day. It is perfectly situated at the edge of town--we started each morning with a stroll past the harbor to the local bakery, returning to the house to dine al fresco on the side terrace. Ah, I wish I were there now! The third floor of this home is a special treat--a tree house of an attic garret, full of light, the perfect place to read a book or gaze at the stars through the skylights. Be sure to enjoy hot chocolate in front of the fire in the living room on a cold morning, a glass of wine in the rocking chairs on the porch, and interesting conversation around the table in the fascinating dining room. The town itself is a dream--gorgeous white wooden houses, a perfect Main Street stretched along a harbor filled with wooden schooners, fun shops, delicious dining, a terrific library, overflowing window boxes...just walking through town is a treat in itself, and this house is truly in the ideal spot. Everything is within walking distance! The locals are so friendly--the people at the corner grocery store knew us by the end of our stay, and when my daughter needed ginger for the cookies she was baking, she just traipsed down to her favorite bakery in town and they happily gave her some!! Camden truly is what you picture when you think "idyllic New England town." And there's so much to do nearby--hiking, boating, swimming in the lake, eating lobsters at a lobster pound right on the water, canoeing and kayaking, beautiful gardens, interesting art galleries...I truly cannot say enough. Camden--and this house--have become our new favorites!!!! You can't go wrong, and will truly feel lucky to have stayed here.

Wow! Such a fun, cute, clean and pretty house! Everything was as described. 3 stories. Great kitchen! Parking on street in front. Cute front porch and patio. Most important to us, we loved our ~2 block walk to town, shops, restaurants and the harbor. It’s ALL right there! We could have simply stayed in Camden and it would have been a wonderful trip meeting all our expectations. But we chose to explore a little more of Maine and it was an easy car trip to Acadia. My grown son loved his 3rd story bedroom. We all appreciated the clean updated bathrooms. It was a truly comfortable stay that felt a lot like visiting friends. It was great to meet Mary, too.

I loved my stay on Mountain Street. The house is full of antiques, books and art. So much to look at! It was so very welcoming and had everything I need to make my stay comfortable. The location in town is so perfect with plenty of parking. And although you are in the heart of the village the gardens give you a sense of peace Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked and I enjoyed my evening lass of wine on the patio. The owners are lovely. I will definitely come back.

Dave and Mary were excellent hosts! The property is in a great location and within walking distance to almost everything. The house is charming and equipped with all necessities. Dave went above and beyond in helping us find just the right activities to do in and around Camden and he suggested outstanding places to eat! Highly recommend this VRBO!
4.7
We absolutely loved everything about this place: the hosts, furnishings, location, internet speed, and price. There was something for everyone here, and we hope to return for another week next year!

Had a wonderful time. Great location. Just a couple of blocks from the town as well as hiking trails at the end of the street. The house was well appointed and very comfortable. Will come back.

This property is in a perfect location within walking distance to shops, restaurants and the harbor. We had great food, went on a sailboat tour and drove up Mt Battie. Great weekend getaway

Camden is a favorite destination for us -
and as we had rented this property years ago - knew the
proximity to town was terrific.
We enjoyed being close to the harbor - however the property needs maintenance and to be professionally cleaned on a much more regular basis to provide the best vacation experience.

Lovely, great location, comfortable close to everything you need.

We enjoyed our stay immensely! The house was comfortable and you could feel the history. The location was amazing. Easy walk into town that help avoid any traffic or parking issues. Mary and Dave were awesome. Dave stopped by to quickly resolve a quick issue and enjoyed talking to him about the history of the house and the amazing things to do around Maine.
A couple things I always like to know.
1. The beds are comfortable but on the firmer side
2. The bedrooms do get lots of light in the morning especially the room on the 3rd floor. We did not mind but I know people who like it dark!
Highly recommend this place. The house is great, location it perfect (central too so many things and not as busy as a town as others. Not as touristy feeling either which we really liked), great restaurants and the hosts were so helpful!
4.7
We are so appreciative that Mary & Dave allowed us to stay in their lovely home. It is filled with art objects from their overseas travels. The location was beyond; it’s just minutes to all the restaurants, shops, the harbor, etc. Mary & Dave went above and beyond in every way. This was my first time in Camden and one of the most relaxing vacations ever. While we loved their home, if you are a minimalist please note that there are a lot of objects, furnishings, and art and you might not love that, but if Maximalism doesn’t bother you, this is an absolute gem and the perfect place to stay in Camden.

Owner’s possession all Asian plus beautiful paintings by her husband. Not a place for anyone clumsy. Most enjoyable and perfect location.

Our two week stay was a delight. The house is perfectly located - many days we did not use the car. Walked to shops and restaurants and the harbor every day. The house is as pictured - filled with books and art from floor to ceiling. We especially enjoyed the roomy kitchen with its nice appliances. The fireplace made things especially cozy on cold days, but it was not in the sitting room so we couldn’t fully enjoy. Dave and Mary are lovely people and full of great suggestions.
The only “unexpected” was the fact that the owners stayed in the basement apartment during our stay. It made me very self-conscious of our conversations/TV/footsteps (sound really carried in this home). I do think that renters should simply be aware of this fact when booking and I don’t recall reading this in the listing.
We look forward to returning to the most charming village on the Maine coast!

My friend and I loved the location of the charming Victorian home in Camden. Our hosts were helpful and attentive.
Be aware if you will be using both bedrooms as we did, both are located upstairs, and one requires two sets of stairs. It was not a problem for us, but might be for some.
Overall, a lovely, art-filled home in beautiful Camden, Maine.
4.7
Historic home in a great location. Easy walk to harbor and shops. Our only complaint would be noisy a/c and a bit musty smelling from large collections of books. Other than that overall lovely property.

All we could say is “WOW”! This house is amazing from every aspect! First, Mary and Dave were very responsive and answered all of our questions. The house has beautiful art (by Dave!) , beautiful antiques, stained glass windows and a very quaint porch with rocking chairs. There is also a very quaint patio for dining - we did not get to use because of the rain. We did not cook any of our meals, but if we had, the kitchen is very well stocked. From a location standpoint, it is perfect. The downtown area of Camden is only a short walk away. The downtown area has many great shops, dining options and a grocery store. You can literally park your car and not get in it again until you leave. The trailhead for Mt. Battie is located just behind the house. The guys hiked this trial one morning and really enjoyed it. My friend and I just decided to lounge at the house and enjoy a quiet morning. The was the perfect lodging for 4 great friends from South Carolina taking a Maine vacation.

This was a lovely week. Right away my family felt comfortable in this home. My son, in his 20’s enjoyed walking into town and planting himself at a picnic table with views of the harbor to do some early morning studying. My daughter and I loved our morning walks to Zoot for coffee. She also hiked Mt Battie every morning. The house is close to everything! We packed it in with dinner at Primo ( very good-book early) high end restaurant and worth every penny. We took a ferry from Rockland to Turner Farm on Northhaven Island-an amazing experience which we will make an annual event. We packed a lunch and rented a boat for half day on Megunticook Lake. We had several dinners at the house for our Maine family-13 of us! The kitchen is well appointed and my daughter, a chef agrees.
This beautiful home made the week that much more enjoyable!
Thank you Mary and Dave!

We walked into nearby Camden a couple of times every day, mostly for meals, but also to purchase grocery items from the small but well-stocked corner grocery store. The harbor views from town were delightful, and we did spend an afternoon swimming at Lake Megunticook a couple of miles up the road. It was a lovely week.

Good Location
The property is well located, within easy walking distance to town and to the trail that leads up to Mount Battie. Plenty of on street parking in front of the house. With the windows open we definitely noticed the traffic noise. On the one warm evening we turned on the AC unit in the 2nd floor bedroom, it effectively cooled down the room but was loud. Every room is full of furniture. I found only one area where I could comfortably roll out my yoga mat. My son enjoyed staying on the third floor and was delighted to wake up to the colored light streaming through the stain glass skylights. Owners occupy the lower basement level that has a separate entrance.

Walking down to the Harbor is a source of daily inspiration. The palette of color and light is breathtaking. Look forward to our return next summer. Thank you Mary and Dave ! Mary

Perfect home for a Maine vacation
Immerse yourself in art and literature while enjoying the best Maine has to offer. Day trips to Rockport, Belfast, Bar Harbor for shopping, antiquing, and ,of course, lobster! Enjoy the forest and the ocean at Acadia National Park where you can hike or just soak in the sun and waves. Don't forget the pop-overs at Jordon Pond Lodge. Be sure to stop and see the views from the Penobscot Bridge tower.
Weather keeping you inside...no worries. This wonderful house is full of artwork (most by the owner!) to ponder and books in every nook and corner. Every need is covered and the rooms are spectacular. We stayed in the "attic" room with stained glass windows above the bed and the whole bathroom is a shower! Our brother and sister in law thoroughly enjoyed the huge master bedroom with big jet tub.
We ate in Bar Harbor, Lincolnville, and Camden and every meal was excellent with great service.
The home is a very short walk from downtown Camden so you are just minutes from shopping and dining. We also got to enjoy a cruise on the schooner "Appledoor"...a great adventure.
Mary and Bill are great hosts and answered all our questions right away. We highly recommend this home for your get away, especially for adults or families with older kids.

Classic Maine cottage
This is the hosts home, not strictly a rental property. Filled with memorabilia and beautiful art. Overwhelming at first, but comfortable after learning its nuances. Small but nice front porch. High-end appliances nestled into an antique setting. Good air-conditioning and fantastic location.

Such a beautiful home in a convenient location for our party of 6, but we were disappointed with the cleanliness & clutter of the home, esp. amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Upon check in we noticed dirty counter tops, musty smelling towels,, worn linens & pillows, watered down hand soaps, dust bunnies everywhere, mildew in the washing machine & 3rd floor toilet etc.. The bedrooms provided no space to unpack due to the dressers and armoires being packed with the owner’s personal belongings. Sorry for the harsh review, but think that a new cleaning service would be in order.
