About this cottage rental
Our Duneland Rentals cottages are right on the beach in the heart of the Indiana Dunes. This charming lakefront cottage is located on three hundred feet of private beach. The gradual sandy beach is excellent for swimming and the sunsets from the south shore of Lake Michigan are incredible.
Porter Beach is a small beach community located on the borders of the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and just one hour from downtown Chicago. The beautiful beach stretches in either direction for miles and within minutes you can get to wonderful nature trails, excellent restaurants, quaint shops and many interesting cultural attractions.
The trails vary in length and difficulty but are all wonderful for both hiking and cross country skiing. There are also some excellent sledding hills nearby. This was a nice, clean, and charming place. We enjoyed our stay on the beach. However, next time we would pack light and be prepared for about 60 stair steps from the top of the hill, where you park to the house. Check-in was quick and the host was gracious to help carry luggage to the house. I would recommend this place and hope to revisit soon!

Delightful hosts, clean comfortable unit on the beach, and great location. Some stairs-if that is a concern. Cottage feel. Good bed. Nice little deck overlooking the beach. Great sunsets! Give them a call.

The owners, Susan and Erica have a lovely group of VRBO's on the beach. The location could not have been better. The upstairs space was simple and clean. Furniture and kitchen was basic but they had everything you need. An actual demonstration of the european stove would have been helpful as it was difficult to light. There were little glitches (broken coffee maker, fire alarm going off) that were mostly dealt with a rapid response. The walls are thin and you hear conversations from the neighbors. The stairs are a REAL thing to deal with if you have luggage, coolers or the like. Susan was extremely kind to offer her help in bringing the cooler down. Overall it was a great place to get away for a few days and chillax. The nearby Dunes National Park is great for hiking. For the price, we felt it was a good deal.

Picked this cottage because of location directly on the beach and positive recommendations. Property as described, clean, slept four comfortably and nearly everything provided. OTA TV only but Roku worked great. Good wifi.Was warned about steps so did not bring any suitcases but backpacks and lightweight duffle bags. Brought bottled water but not needed as Culligan filter on faucet. I have balance issues but managed the steps. They had another handrail placed to assist me the day after we arrived. Susan and Erika were both very helpful and pleasant. Several reasonably priced restaurants and pubs within 8-10 minute drive and not much traffic. We will plan to return next if possible. Strongly recommend if able to climb several steps.

Loved our stay… the warning on steps is accurate! We were fine but could be issue for some. We had a short stay so steps were not a huge issue . They could be more lit up at night. The cottage was quaint,super clean and comfortable. We were probably off season , had the beach and the dunes to ourselves!

Great Location
Enjoyed our couple of day stay here very much. The location right on the beach is amazing. It's very quiet and private compared to the busy section of beach down about a 1/4 mile dedicated to the national park. In May of 2022 the beach is fairly wide - nothing like the high tide they had back in 2020 so fear not. Sunsets are fantastic. The guest hosts are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very clean and well maintained - no complaints about our visit at all and will make it a point to return in the future.

Relaxing, great location.
The listing was accurate except that there were additional amenities that I didn't notice in the listing such as a grill, outdoor fire pit, and beach accessories. Which was a nice bonus upon arrival! Susan is great and easy to communicate with. Cell service is spotty but who cares for relaxing for a few days. The oven is tricky and may have been user error. Loved the location. It's a fabulous getaway for staying right in the beach. You really could just stay there and not leave, but the proximity to the national and state parks makes it so you want to explore nature. Technically you can walk along the lake shore to get into the state park. We drove into Chesterton for coffee one day and then explored other sights by car. The rental is cozy and clean and perfect for two adults and two young kids. I loved that the kids could play on the beach and I could sit and relac or make meals and still watch them. Beautiful lake and sunset views. Definitely want to stay here again.

Amazing location!
We had an absolute blast at this location! We visited in early March so obviously not beach weather but it was really cool to be right on the lake. The house was perfect for what we needed. We spent a day hiking at the Dunes state park, which was only about 5 minutes away. Chesterton IN is nearby and had some great restaurants/breweries/taprooms. We really enjoyed this trip and would definitely book here again!

Amazing views of the Lake
What an incredible place to stay. Right on the lake. We took advantage of the fire pit and had a fire on the beach. Clean, well stocked, close to restaurants and a gracious host! Thanks Susan!

Amazing Experience
The place was very clean! Especially considering all the sand around. Had everything we needed and didn't have to leave if we didn't want to. Great view of the lake from kitchen and living room. Susan was prompt on answering any questions we had. The extras we loved was the provided firewood, access to kayak, paddle board, and Lilly pad. Although it was too chilly to get in water during our stay. Highly recommend. I'm positive we'll be back next year.

Wonderful beach getaway
Everything was perfect! Exactly what we were looking for… beach, sunset, beautiful lake! We found everything we needed in the cottage. It was very clean, comfortable, quiet. Only downside — the steep steps/hill between car and cottage. For someone with bad knees (like me) this could be a real problem, but I just kept my trips to a minimum and took it slowly. We loved it here and hope to book it again next year.

Awesome Stay!
Amazing stay! Was looking for something more secluded and this was the perfect spot! Views were beautiful and it was awesome to walk right out to the beach! Owner even provides a fire pit for a beach fire and kayaks/boogie boards if one chooses to use! Rental was very clean and just a overall great stay!

Beautiful location
A+ all the way around!! Susan, Erica, Matt, Lisa, everyone was wonderful and accommodating! Any questions or concerns I had, Susan responded swiftly. The property was clean, efficient and exceeded my expectations-I hated to leave and I can’t wait to go back!!
Side note: the walk from parking area to house is a bit of a hike and lots of stairs - PACK LIGHTLY!!
Bottomline: HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Magnificent view, fun on the beach
Beach fun in Indiana! This beach house is right on Lake Michigan. You have to navigate many stairs to get there but it is so worth it! The house is small but comfortable. The views and breezes are wonderful. We also enjoyed hiking the dunes at Indiana Dunes State Park next door and the Indiana Dunes National Park nearby. Chicago is a train ride away. We had a wonderful time!

A wonderful, restful, beach escape.
This property was perfect. The views of the lake are outstanding
and the cottage itself is a stone's throw (down some steps) to the private beach; we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.
We were comfortable and very happy throughout our stay.I hope we can return next year and stay in the very same cottage (or, if not that one, another owned by this same property owner)!

Awesome place to rent for a vacation on Lake Michigan.
The property was beautiful and well maintained. Great views of sunsets and of Chicago on clear days. Susan our host was very helpful on telling us everything we needed to know to make our stay wonderful. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area.

Christmas present for my folks
My sister and I got my parents a 2 night Christmas present at this cottage. Our folks loved the lake view and clean beach so much they never left for even a restaurant. The kitchen was stocked with anything you would need.

We reserved this cottage wanting to have a winter experience right on the shoreline of Lake Michigan.The property was quite clean, nicely furnished. and exactly as advertised. Our hosts were welcoming, very focused on our health regarding Covid, and very hospitable. Our stay was exactly what we were looking for!

New Year’s Eve getaway
Everything was just as I saw online. Susan was very sweet even offering to help us carry our baggage down to the cottage. Snow and cold weather was actually a positive for a very relaxing do nothing getaway. Cottage had everything we needed to bring our own food and cook. We will absolutely be back. This spot is such a unique and great location to access the beach and really amazing getaway from the hustle and bustle from the city.

A getaway at the lake
This property, a 2nd floor apartment has windows nearly 180 straight out looking out at Lake Michigan. It's a diamond of northern Indiana, simple but adequate.
The only drawback is the steps it takes from the top of a dune parking area to the house.

Fabulous location right on Lake Michigan
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We really loved this spot. We had warm weather for late September and were able to leave the windows open at night and hear the sound of the waves washing onto shore. The living room windows give you a panoramic view which is fantastic. The furnishings are simple but comfortable, and we enjoyed sitting on the small deck with our morning coffee. Susan is super nice and gave us good information about the area. You can walk the beach into the state park. Wifi is a little spotty. My only suggestion is for a few additional items in the kitchen. The larger pans didn't have lids, and a couple of larger knives would be nice. We brought our own cooking oil, but that's something I always appreciate having at a rental place because it's easy to forget about that when shopping.

Amazing view
We were looking for a refreshing weekend away, and this property definitely enabled that. While we could hear the downstairs neighbors, overwhelmingly we enjoyed the relaxing crashing of the waves especially coupled with the incredible view of the lake. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen had just enough to get us through the weekend. It was an easy walk down the beach to the state park. Susan was quick to bring down dish soap when I texted her about it. Overall, it was a nice location for a quick weekend away.

Fantastic location!
We wanted to a place to stay on the water where we could just relax and were lucky enough to find this gem! The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We appreciated having the kayaks at our disposal as we used them multiple times. The beds were super comfy, and we slept so well with the windows open, listening to the waves. This is NOT a place for anyone with accessibility issues - the walk down from parking is equivalent to about three flights of stairs, then up one flight into the cottage. We didn't mind, but should be noted in case it is an issue. Laundry facilities were next door and very convenient as well. Ericka and Susan were very responsive and helpful. Bottom line, I will definitely come back here!

Beautiful view of the Lake
This Lakefront cottage had everything we needed and then some. And our host, Susan, was very welcoming. Panoramic view of the lake. Ability to walk the beach to Porter Beach and the State Park. Close to good food and antique shops in Chesterton. We hope to return in the Fall.

Wonderful, hassle free, and adorable
We absolutely loved our stay here. It is RIGHT on the water and is just an adorable, charming place. The place was clean, the view was fantastic, and it's a perfect place to spend a few days (or more) relaxing on or near the beach, sitting around the firepit, grilling out, etc. Susan was very helpful and communicative. We will stay here again!

Great location nice cottage right on the lake
A bit of a walk down the stairs to get to the cottage, but worth the trip. Cottage was clean and had all the essentials. The beach toys (chairs umbrellas,paddle boards.kayaks,and floats) were a definite plus.

Location location location! AWESOME
Our family stayed here for about 10days this summer and we had a magnificent time. The location is perfect for some beach time fun. The kids (ages 12 and 3) both had a blast, playing in the sand, playing on the lilypad, kayaking, and mastering the stand up paddle board, all provided for your use when staying there. Close to a lot and yet tucked away on the shores of lake michigan in the quiet indiana dunes. Can't wait to go back again!

Spotless property with a very impressive view.
This cabin exceeded all my expectations. A stunning view of Lake Michigan. Just steps from the water. The property was clean and well maintained. Susan met us when we got there and walked us down to the cabin showed us around and made sure we were comfortable I look forward to renting this cabin again. I just can’t get over the view. 🤙

Peaceful and quiet
This little cottage is very nice, has everything and is right on the beach. The view is breathtaking and even though it was really really cold outside we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Ericka, one of the owner, helped us to carry things and walked us to the cottage when we arrived. She was very helpful and made sure we were settled.
