Great communication with Mary the property manager and the owner!
We rented this house 10 years ago and always wanted to return. This was our second trip and it did not let us down location location location absolutely Beautiful!!

Wow, what a fantastic stay at Villa Esperanza. The house is beyond beautiful and the location on the beach is amazing. Pictures do not do it justice. Mary, the house manager, is incredibly helpful. We loved having meals prepared by Chef Sebastian and a day trip to Palo Verde through the driver Mary suggested was also great. We had a fun time doing ATV through Conchal Fun. We had great breakfasts at Corazon and dinners at Villa Deveena, Cafe Playa Negra and Mycelium. But some of the best time was just hanging at the house, watching the surfers and walking on the beach. Thank you Lenora and Mary for a wonderful vacation. We can't wait to visit again!

The house was unbelievably beautiful! We all felt like we had walked into a postcard. Mary was so helpful and responded promptly when I had any questions. If you are looking for a quiet retreat to the beach that is convenient to Tamarindo, this is it. It was fun to sit on the balcony and watch the surfers while drinking coffee in the mornings. I have zero complaints about this property. We all would highly recommend it to anyone looking for paradise.

Great location, extraordinary property, very nice host, incredibly accommodating! And Playa Negra is the best. Very close walk to main surf breaks and Hotel Playa Negra for food and drink.

We had a great time. The house was just as advertised.

The house was amazing and we all had a really great time. We played hise and seek since it was so big. We were all comfortable and the decor was gorgeous. The kids loved the pool. The ocean swimming spot was about a 10 minute walk. The sunsets from the house took our breath away and the iguanas every morning on the rock wall were fun to see. Response to any question was fast and the two chefs (Ben and Arthur and Jen) were a must to have cook for you. Guti Tours, Mojo Surfing, Jet Skiing with Conchalfun.com and Ziplining are a must!!

Beautiful House Near Surf
We stayed at Villa Esparanza for a week at the start of October. Typically this is a super rainy period of time but we lucked out with only an occasional moment of rain.
The house is stunning and arguably the nicest house in the area of Playa Negra. It was a three minute walk to the solid surf spot and we found ourselves sitting in the pool waiting to time our sessions.
The layout of the house provided tons of space and the house is so large we didn't even fully maximize areas. Three of the rooms are almost identical and have their own private bathrooms.
The region of Playa Negra was perfect with numerous quality restaurants and a good launching point for other regions in the guanacaste area.
Only drawback for our stay was the building of the house next door and the construction noise you get if you stay on the west side of the house. They are building fast and imagine won't be much of an issue after the end of this year.

Great time at Villa Esperanza!
We just returned from a 7 day stay at beautiful Villa Esperanza. The house is just as described and the photos are very accurate. Rooms are big and comfortable and it has everything you need to have a great time. It is in a gated community with a mix of house sizes and styles. It is located in a fairly remote area. You will be traveling on a lot of dirt roads! The beach in front of the house is very rocky, but there is a more sandy beach a short walk down or a 5 min drive to Lola's beach grill. Mary and her staff are extremely helpful with developing an itinerary, making reservations for tours, assisting with any issues you might have. We also had a private chef (Ben from PasCam Catering) come two nights, which I highly recommend. Despite the remote location, there are several fantastic restaurants close by.
My only complaint about the house is there is a house being built next door and there is some construction noise associated with this. It's not terrible, but they start when the sun comes up at 6:00am and it's something to be aware of. They were not there every day or all day. This is, of course, temporary.

A VERY nice place to stay
Everything was just as described in the listing And Lenora and Mary went out of their way to make sure we had a good time during our stay. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family and hope we get the opportunity to go again.

Beautiful home
We had a lovely stay in January at this home. It was very comfortable and the view are incredible!! We had dinner chef Garret prepare dinner 2 nights and Jen dropped by food another night. Both were delish! Mary, the property manager was very, very helpful arranging excursions and food. —Horseback riding with Andres & his father Jesus of Guti tours was the best thing we have ever done on a vacay! We love every minute of our time there.

Amazing week
We did a last minute trip to CR between Christmas and New Years. Lenora and the house managers were absolutely wonderful to deal with. They were incredibly helpful in setting up activities, and helped us set up amazing chefs. The house is beautiful, well furnished, and well stocked! All of the bedrooms are beautiful and extremely comfortable. The kids enjoyed being able to walk down the beach to a fantastic surf break. The beach in front of the house is amazing and quiet. Do not hesitate to book this gorgeous home!

Great place, great location
Go to Playa Negra, stay at Villa Esperanza. Stunning beaches with plenty of stretches of soft sand interspersed with outcrops of ancient black, volcanic rock. And a villa, the word house doesn’t do it justice 10 yards from the beach. 3 true master suites, a well stocked kitchen, verandas, indoor and outdoor eating and gathering areas, and very well maintained. We loved this place, and we get around. My wife and I are often asked if we’d go back to a place. Our stock answer is no....there’s too many places to explore in the world. We’ll make an exception for this place.

Amazing vacation!
We rented Villa Esperanza for almost 2 wks in June. It was a fantastic experience. The house is gorgeous & huge! The views are spectacular. The kitchen was well stocked. The property manager is very responsive and answered every question we had. Some highlights:
1) Mary offered to do initial grocery shopping for us & it was well worth the fee charged. We ordered wine, beer, food to cook for dinner the first night and breakfast the first morning and snacks & it was a godsend. Once you make the drive from the airport on those rough roads and see the amazing views, you don’t want to head immediately back out to get food. You want to put on your suits and jump in the pool & watch the surfers!
2) We did a triple tour with pura adventura (about 20 min drive) and it was fantastic. Best zip lining we’ve ever done with panoramic views of the canopy. We also did a fun ATV tour with them & horseback riding. Highly recommend.
3) as mentioned, the kitchen is truly gourmet & well stocked and for a rental, the knives are decent. We cooked almost every night, enjoying the ocean views as we prepped and cooked. The only drawback is that there is no hood on the stovetop and no place for the smoke/steam to go which makes cooking bacon and sausage in the morning a bit problematic.
3) the house is very spacious. We had 9 people & were very comfortable. There is a beautiful outdoor table that seats 12 and we ate there every night. I was disappointed that we couldnt eat dinner at that beautiful circular table in the photos. Unfortunately there is no light in the room, making it difficult to eat dinner since it gets dark at 6:00.
4) villa Deevena is a wonderful restaurant in playa Negra with a Michelin trained chef and his family. It’s open air in a beautiful setting, unpretentious, extremely pleasant staff and phenomenal food (get the octopus). We loved it so much that we asked Dean (the owner/chefs son) if his dad would do a cooking lesson for us and he did! We met at 9:30 in the morning & he had us prep the veggies and cook & amazing lunch of lobster, shrimp, scallop, grouper and octopus with a red curry vegetable sauce, roasted butternut squash with julienned veggies & mango cobbler for dessert and one drink! The entire experience was only $50! Chef Patrick rocks!
Many more tips but I’m out of room! Beware that you are in a remote area & the nearest grocery store is 30 min away - but that’s part of the charm. Bring books!

Amazing! Would love to come back!
This house was a dream. Beautiful home with tons of room for multiple families, great pool, a ping pong table and perfectly located for nightly sunset watching. Close walk to surfing and boogie boarding with a great little hotel restaurant after the waves. Mary was always available to answer questions and provide recommendations. We had a Chef Garrett come in on our last night and cook the most amazing Costa Rican food. Fabulous vacation!!!

Gorgeous home overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Costa Rica is our happy place, and Villa Esperanza increased our happiness! It is a beautiful luxury home that was extremely comfortable. Lenora and Mary were so accommodating with whatever we needed and our vacation was perfect. From our chef, Garrett, to breakfast at Cafe Negra, to swimming in the pool and jumping waves-we will be back!

Amazing and luxurious home!
Our family of 11 spent our spring break at this lovely home. It was the perfect set up for three couples and our children. LOVE the bunk room. We hosted our nephew's baby dedication and couldn't have asked for a better place! Mary was wonderful to set up the actives and made sure our trip was in order. Loved Michelle, the chef, who prepared fresh and delicious meals to accommodate various tastes and preferences. Loved Villa Esperanza and Costa Rica! Pura Vida!

Incredible retreat in perfect surroundings.
If you are looking to Costa Rica, look no further! This Villa is perfection. Spanish architecture with old world flair, gorgeous and well appointed immaculate suites which exude warmth, class and charm. We loved the rocking chairs at sunset, the enormous round table for dinner, walks on the beach, frosty drinks by the pool...... and gazing out to the surf and wild horses from the infinity pool.
Mary who is the Property Manager is simply incredible, she organized every pick up from the airport to all of our excursions. From spa day's at Spa de Eros, to snorkeling and sunset sails, dinner reservations at Daveena's (a must do) to day trips. She arranged for Chef Pascal & Camille to cook us incredible meals, morning and night.
We've stayed in some of the best resorts and hotels in the world and her attention to detail was beyond the best of the best. This is a first class vacation in a phenomenal setting and I can not thank the owners enough for making our experience one that we shall never forget. It was beyond perfection Xxx

One Word: PHENOMENAL
Absolutely astonishing property, location, interior and exterior. It was the getaway of a life time and I really hope to be back. The hosts have the house set up with everything you could want or need and more. Immaculate daily cleaning and service. Locals are so nice! The sunset's are absolutely breathtaking. The POOL! So so beautiful.
We stayed in March, and I'm late giving this review but 5 stars isn't enough. 12/10. The pictures shown are incredible, for sure, but still don't do the place justice. You really need to see it and experience Villa Esperanza for all its true beauty.
Close enough to Tamarindo to go into town, have dinner, and come back - but also far enough to have peace, quiet and privacy. Amazing food nearby = walking distance. Definitely recommend walking the beach to the hotel restaurant (for breakfast, lunch and dinner!).
Amazing Smoothies and breakfast just up the road at a place called Jalapenos, you can walk the beach and go up through the hotel road.
Getting to watch the surfers all day long, right from the pool deck was so, so cool! (if you're into photography you will love this part!)
Also go check out Lola's Restaurant at Playa Avellanas. AMAZING food, staff there is awesome too! This beach is where I tried surfing :)
The photos don't show the totally private beach you get, just footsteps below your pool deck!
If you're a star gazer... oh man!
We'll be going back ASAP :)
Thank you Villa Esperanza !!

Best vacation of our lives
Right from the driver at the airport, to arrival at Villa Esperanza, you know you are in for a wonderful vacation. This Villa is so well appointed and every guest room is like a master suite with Ensuite! The infinity pool is a daily staple and the expansive ocean views are breathtaking. The sound of the rolling surf is 24/7 and food for the soul. So many local hangouts like Lola's, Playa Negra Resort surfers beach, Daveena's restaurant with Michelin starred chef from Paris as well as nearby surfing beach town Tamarindo with beach front bistros and hotels. This is paradise and works for chill days or fun activity days. Beach front and sandy walks right outside your door! Highly recommend the magic of Villa Esperanza, it was our best vacation ever.

Heaven on Earth.....
WOW! Where to start.....the sound of the waves rolling up on the beach as we relaxed by the pool or the infinity view of the sun sinking into the ocean, La Villa Esperanza has it all! From the time we first made an inquiry about spending our honeymoon in Costa Rica both Lenora and Mary made sure every detail was looked after from the time we booked until we flew back to Canada, and by far exceeded all of our expectations! A perfect location that allowed us to explore the local culture and take in activities during the day and relax in luxury as the sun set into the ocean in front of us every night! A honeymoon we will not soon forget.....Thank you!

Heaven or really close
From the moment we arrived we were impressed and it just kept getting better. The house is amazing and is furnished not as a rental but as I would for my own full time home. although the restaurants locally are incredible we did not want to leave the house. sitting on the ocean with views forever and non-stop wave action just below the pool and patio, we bbq'd, cooked and hung out in the many area's the home offers. With little light in the area the sky at night is a show stopper with more stars than I can remember seeing except for a 7 day boat trip off Australia. What can I say, we had a vacation to take to the 70's chair for reflection and will be sending many friends here in the future. We will no doubt be back next year for two weeks for more great memories. Cheers! Jake & Rocio

E² = MC... Expectations Exceeded = Memories Created
All the comforts of home without the daily cares; a true get-away and most relaxing vacation ever! Was it because of the company we kept?
Or was it the unforced luxury and blissful privacy of this beautifully appointed home? Perhaps the large and exceedingly comfortable bedrooms with on-demand air conditioning? Very likely the infinity pool just meters away from the endless surf and the soothing sound of waves crashing onto shore.
Or was it because everything tasted better, especially the wines shared and the meals foraged and prepared together?
And if you don’t feel like cooking in, then there’s the exquisite food and ambience at nearby Villa Deevena; possibly the best cuisine and easily the friendliest service in all of Costa Rica a mere 5-minute drive away!
While our tans will fade, the memories will last a lifetime. Or until we return?
PS: Some of us had an amzing day of horse-back riding (incl. lunch) with Molly Allen Neiderberger - beaches, hidden trails & tropical dry forest.

Spectacular family vacation, can't wait to go back!!!
We had a fantastic 5 star experience at this 5 star home.
Really can't say enough about our time at this beautiful ocean front residence.
We stayed there Easter of 2013 and it was absolutely magical. The house is perfectly anointed with every high end amenity you can dream of.
Our party included my husband, myself our two young daughters ages 5 and 9 we also had both of our mothers that are in their 70's and my sister n law. The house was more than spacious with its 3 master suites and kids room. The bathrooms were gorgeous, huge and like everything else tastefully decorated.
The kitchen is a dream to cook in and has everything you would need from toaster oven to sugar.
The views from every level of the home facing the ocean are breathtaking. Every slider on the ocean side opens completely to let in the ocean breezes. Which reminds me to mention we had no issues with bugs or mosquitos which was one of my biggest worries since they love to bite me.
We had fantastic meals at every meal. Our property manager even helped us set up a home chef to make us a few Costa Rican meals served to us on the beautiful Guanacaste wood table on the patio.
I highly recommend having your first breakfast served to you in the home so you can relax and soak it all in.
The property manager was extremely helpful suggesting restaurants, excursions and setting up our transportation from the airport to the home and rental car that was delivered to us at the home. Since it was our first trip to Costa Rica we relied heavily on her suggestions and she did not fail us.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the Costa Rican people themselves. We have traveled extensively and I have to say the people in Costa Rica are among the warmest, kindest, friendliest most honest people I have ever met anywhere. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable everywhere we went. Never once treating us like tourist but more like old friends back for a visit.
We were chased out of two restaurants by the waiters trying to give us back our change thinking we over paid when really we were just leaving a tip. From the beach we continued our adventure to the rain forrest in Arenal and the people there were just as welcoming and warm. Really it was an eye opening vacation reminding us that no matter how little people may have or how much you should always live each day to th fullest and treat others how you would like to be treated.
As they say in Costa Rica "Pura Vida."

What a beautiful home and town
We really had a great time and were amazed by the house and the town.
I couldn't believe the delicious food at the restaurants that are on
the side of dirt roads. This was our first trip to Costa Rica but not
our last. We are thinking about returning in November this year.
The people in the town are very friendly and welcoming. We packed a lot of stuff but all you need is swimsuits for day and very casual clothes for dinner.
Make sure to get up early and take the road that goes to Lola's and you will see monkeys playing in the trees. This is a very remote town and is perfect.
Make sure you go to Kon Tiki the owners are very hospitable and the food is really good. We are use to all inclusive resorts ( you know dressing up for dinner) but this is the way to go. The house is amazing and the town is the best. Thank you for letting us stay in your home. We really enjoyed it.
