About this house rental
The Log House is a gorgeous privately owned 5,250 sq. ft. log home in Truckee, CA constructed in 2005. The house is located in the Tahoe Donner Association at one of the highest home sites available ... 7,250 ft. near the Glacier Point trail portal within walking distance from the Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area. The house has 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, plus a loft with a very comfortable hide-a-bed which can be easily used as a 5th bedroom. A multi-room sound system enables music to be streamed throughout the house and a new theater system with 85" Sony Smart TV will keep you entertained. A 3-car garage keeps your cars safe from our incredible winter snow storms!
The Log House itself is loaded with amenities and must be seen to be believed. The Great Room has 25 ft. floor-to-ceiling windows and gas fireplace to compliment the immaculate views. The kitchen is fully loaded with stainless steel appliances -- refrigerator, 48 inch range with 2 ovens, built-in microwave, dishwasher and coffee/cappuccino machine. The bar & rec room area has its own refrigerator and dishwasher, another massive fireplace, wine cellar, steam shower, and dry sauna in addition to a highly functional work out area with Olympic weights and a stair master. The top rear deck has beautiful stainless steel barbeque, fire pit, two propane heaters, ample seating and a specially designed area for the 10-person jacuzzi that is sitting over 30 ft. above the ground and perfect for enjoying the massive views or the night stars.
The sleeping arrangements are as follows:
* Master Bedroom (king)
* Guest Bedroom I (king)

* Guest Bedroom III (king)
* Loft (couch / hide-a-bed - unusually comfortable)
The Master Bedroom has its own gas fireplace and opens up to the top deck only footsteps from the jacuzzi. Both guest bedrooms open up onto the lower deck area so that all guests enjoy the same massive views from the comfort of their sleeping quarters.
This home is not only defined by the massive 24 inch plus logs but the incredible 180 degree views of Mt. Rose, the Truckee Meadow, Northstar Ski resort, the Pacific Crest, and Donner Pass from its two rear deck areas.
Guests of The Log House enjoy all the member benefits of the Tahoe Donner Association, including the Downhill Ski Area, Cross Country Center, Equestrian Center, Campground, 18-hole Golf Course, Recreation Center, Clubhouse and Beach Club Marina via two Transferable Guest Cards (good for 8 people).
Lake Tahoe is only 20 miles away from the property and is internationally known for offering visitors a bonanza of recreation, restaurants, and attractions. This log cabin is gorgeous and the views amazing! The access to hiking and biking trails is great as well. Our entire group felt comfortable and a great time was had by all!

Outstanding property but a bit unfinished. For the price I felt several details were ignored or forgotten, amazing deck…no furniture….bbq-that was filthy and partially did not work, no access to laundry but asked to strip beds and place in laundry, no main entrance access, must enter through garage. Hot tub in excellent condition-very sanitary. No passes to amenities, but owner responded with arrangements that took time and effort to coordinate. Lake access and equine center for hiking were both amazing!

This cabin is spectacular. Not only are the views outstanding but you will find yourself marveling at the cabins construction with it's gaint logs inside and out. The inside layout is perfect for a family with teenagers. The owner is very responsive, accommodating and welcoming. I highly recommend this cabin and will plan to come back.

The Log House is a wonderful rental with amazing amenities. The large great-room windows provided stellar views of the mountains and winter snowfall. Our large friend group fit very comfortably, and our 5 teenage boys loved the home gym, sauna, steam shower & outdoor spa. In fact, this is the first rental our travel group has stayed at where we never left the property all weekend. We were very impressed with our host Rod. He was so friendly, helpful and very accessible, unlike some other VRBO hosts we have dealt with, he certainly is the best host we have encountered and we would book any properties that he manages. He took care of all of our needs and answered the phone every time when we called with questions. The property has a very user-friendly instruction manual that explains all the amenities. We are already planning to re-book the property in the summer. Thank you Rod!

We had a great experience! Big, spacious house. The entry through the garage is a bit awkward for some folks that have a harder time with stairs but otherwise it was all great.

We loved our stay and would definitely recommend. The cabin is beautifully built, has breathtaking views, comfortable beds, and plenty of space for our family of seven. We enjoyed many sunsets in the hot tub overlooking the snowy mountains and were able to walk from the house to nearby snowshoeing. The one thing to note is there are a good amount of stairs so all guests should be able bodied. Would love to come back!

A wonderful view from nearly every room in the house truly never got old. The great room was everyone’s favorite- comfortable and spacious but cozy in front of the fireplace- something for everyone!

Wonderful Stay!
We had a wonderful stay at the Log House over the 4th of July week. Rod is easy to communicate with and the views are stunning. The only thing we had trouble finding were sheets for the pull out couch and wash-clothes. Aside from that, it was an amazing stay.

Wonderful Thanksgiving
We rented this home for Thanksgiving and invited both sides of the family. We ended up with 8 adults and 2 toddlers. The house was clean and well-stocked, check-in was easy, and communication was excellent. The views out each of the bedrooms were amazing to wake up to at sunrise every morning, and we got some fantastic family photos on the deck at sunset. There is plenty of space for everyone to have a place to “escape” to, but we found we spent most of our time in the great room/kitchen. I really appreciated the high chair at the house - I did not know it was there and would not have brought one if I had, so just a pointer for anyone else staying at the house with little ones! Beds were comfortable, and it was handy to have a full sized fridge downstairs in the bar for all the Thanksgiving meal prep as well! We went on daily walks around the neighborhood, and took some night time strolls to see the stars. Everyone had a great time and the house received compliments all-around. We would love to come back again!

Absolutely Wonderful Experience
The cabin was better than expected and was even better than pictured. There was plenty of space for 12 of us. We enjoyed the hot tub and the large amount of space within the cabin. The views are to die for and we highly recommend this place. We plan to come again at some point.

Retreat for a wedding
My family stayed in the log house for my daughters wedding in the Truckee area. She had rented a house 2 doors down for her wedding party. It worked out perfectly for us. The house is beautiful, well equipped (you only need to bring clothes and food) and has spectacular views Get in the spa at night and look at all the stars! just be aware that there are a lot of stairs so it’s not a house for somebody with mobility issues. But you’ll get your steps in!!!

The house was amazing.
Very tidy and lovely house equipped with everything you need. The communication was super easy and quick and the house looks exactly like it does on the pictures. The neighborhood is very conveniently located and extremely quiet. House is very clean, kids had a LOT of fun; Specifically with the huge tv and den area🙏 Would absolutely recommend to stay there!

Beyond all expectations
This house looks amazing in the VRBO pictures, but the reality of the property far exceeded anything we expected. The views were breathtaking from multiple locations throughout the house and the amenities within the house itself were all top notch. We could not have been more pleased. This house is extremely special and we felt fortunate to rent it for a few days.

Stunning Getaway!
This is easily one of the best cabins in Truckee. We travel to the area almost every weekend in winter—have stayed at numerous places—and so far this has been our favorite. The views are surreal and the cabin has a rustic feel with the massive log construction, but is completely modern on amenities. It’s large enough to accommodate big groups and still provide privacy throughout. Worth every penny

Christmas Lodge
Our family started a new tradition last year of celebrating Christmas together at a vacation rental. Our goal as a family was to find a log house in the mountains of Truckee CA with bedrooms and bathrooms for each of the three families, fireplaces, jucuzzi and a location that has majestic mountain views. This rental or Log Home as it may be, simply checked all of the boxes and the Owner simply was a pleasure to interact with thru-out the process. Our entire family had a wonderful time together at the Log House!

Return Family, Another Amazing Time!
We came up again for the 4th of July - another visit to the log cabin did not disappoint. In fact, I would almost say like a good wine, it only gets better with time. The views are out of this world, the cabin is first class and beautiful, the amenities and accommodations are better than the Four Seasons! Thank you again to Rod and his family for sharing their home with us. We can not wait to return and greatly appreciate sharing family memories in such a special place -- literally perched on top of God's country!

Gorgeous house, incredible location.
This house is fantastic. The location is ideal if you like lots of snow and quick access to a ski lift. Bring real tire chains! The road up is not for wimpy cables in the winter.

Takes your breath away!
This home is absolutely amazing. From the views to the construction of the logs. Beautiful details everywhere you look. All the comforts you want on vacation. We love to cook and the kitchen was setup for just that. My son-in-law has a new title "barista" there is a coffee/cappuccino machine that we enjoyed delicious cappuccinos and coffees.
The loft was a perfect place for an afternoon snooze, and the downstairs was a spot we found ourselves playing games and having weight lifting competitions. Must have been those afternoon coffees! The bedrooms were complete with soft comfy bedding and bathrooms had all the extras!
If your looking for a special place to make memories with friends or family look no further, rent this home it will not disappoint. We rent 3 to 4 homes a year for our family vacations and this was a full 5+ stars.
Rod was timely in his communication to us as well as flexible when we wanted to add an additional day. We didn't encounter one issue or even a reason to have to contact Rod although he said call with any questions or needs you have.
Happy we had the chance to stay at the Log House!

Beautiful stunning cabin, great weekend!
Thanks Rodney for a great stay. The cabin is absolutely wonderful and has the best view since it's at the top of a mountain. When the weather is stormy, it can be a bit difficult to drive up the hill so be sure to have either an SUV or chains. Hopefully the snow plows in the area will have already made it through to make your drive a bit easier.
Once you get to the house, the check-in process is super easy, since Rodney will provide with a garage access code the morning of (after you give him a security deposit just in case). All amenities were great, including the hot tub, saunas, and laundry rooms. Plenty of pots & pans, utensils, and cups for all people in your party.
There's a wonderful stereo system with so many CDs to choose from during your stay, as well as two lounge/living room spaces for everyone to hang out in. As other reviews have mentioned though, the internet is pretty spotty here and we personally had no wifi the entire weekend, but cellular was fine.
Overally, it was lovely and we hope to be back soon!

Fantastic!
My family and I had a wonderful time staying at this amazing log home at the top of the world! The views are spectacular, gorgeous hiking trails right down the street, and the architecture/vibe of this home is incredible. Plenty of space for our group of 8. Love that there are 3 levels and many areas of this home to allow for folks to enjoy some down time from the group if they choose to. Thanks again!

Incredible Resort, Wont Find Better!
We went to celebrate the 4th of July( AMAZING views for fireworks up the local trail!!) , my husband's 40th and daughter's 8th birthday. What a beautiful cabin - pictures do not serve it justice! The view is a true slice of heaven - beyond 5 star, the cabin is clean, beautiful, spacious (!!), well-maintained, just FUN! It is not often in the mountains with lots of options ( lake, pool, boats, hiking ,river floats) that you dream about getting back to where you are staying for the view! Some of our best times during the week was on the back deck -- ohhh, and the spa under the Milky Way! Amazing! Rod, the owner, is more than professional and responsive -- just a genuine nice guy! If you do NOT stay here, you are not living life!!! :) We have already told our friend group to get on up to THE LOG CABIN! Beats the Four Seasons Resort any day!

beautiful views, but beware-only 4 bedrooms!
House is gorgeous. We couldn't get in at first as the pad with code is old and you can't push the numbers hard enough, so had to call to get a new code-thankfully Rodney was very responsive and got us in right away as it was raining. I think it could use some renewal of things - I didn't stay here, i stayed down the street, but others in my family did and here is what they had to say
to improve:
1) towels: they are old, thin and rough. They should all be replaced and frequently. also need hand towels and washclothes. Consider beach towels as well as small white towels aren't great for the beach and pools that the HOA has and which guests can use
2) lights are out all over the house-need to have someone go room by room to fix
3) internet is terrible-website says this as well, but we have a house in TD and purchased high speed internet-it does go out, but when it works it is at least decent in speed
4) toilet paper and amenities--need to have enough for the stay and number of guests, a single back up roll in a bathroom will not cover 12 people for 5 nights, this is a cheap item to have on hand and should be available, paper towels for that matter too.
5) the windows in the bedrooms need curtains/blinds, there is no escaping the sun when it rises at 5:30 am...and not everyone wants to wake up with the sun, especially if you are just going to sleep...
6) We were a bit bummed that the house says it is 5 bedrooms when clearly it is 4 bedrooms and there is a loft with a pullout couch. I think this is inaccurate to list as a 5 bedroom, no matter how much it is clarified in the description, not everyone reads all the caveats.
The great:
1) the hot tub i guess was a spectacular activity-large with beautiful views and not over chlorinated.
2) views: stunning
Overall, the house worked great for what we needed it for, we were having an event 3 houses down, but wanted all the people coming in from out of town to be staying close to each other/within walking distance, and this house was only 2 houses away, so was a nice quiet retreat for those who had small kids and wanted to get them away from the excitement or the older ones who wanted to leave the excitement and retreat to silence. The house served our needs and fit the bill.

Definitely impressed with the Log House! I've stayed in many cabins and this one has been the best!
The Log House is definitely a cabin I would come back to. Beautiful views from all around and the inside was just great! Highly recommend.

Great Place for Big Families and Group Events!!!
The home was spectacular! It felt like I was in a resort where I did not need to step outside the property because everything you would need was inside the home (except food of course). My favorite part of the home is definitely the balcony, my friends and I spent most of our time in the hot tub and enjoying the outdoor. Since I came during the peak of summer, it was a bit warm in the home during the day, but nothing too discomforting. There is plenty of space in this home and would be ideal for a bigger groups. I would definitely return and highly recommend this home to others.

Great escape!
Incredible views, at the top of the mountain. House has it all, chefs kitchen, entertainment, hot tub, steam shower, dry sauna, massage chair, fireplaces and more. Rod was very responsive as well for a couple of questions!

Breathtaking!!!
Pictures don't do this house justice!!! We had 8 adults and a little one and there was more than enough room for everyone for sleeping as well as to hang out! Amazing views from hot tub and sunrises from all rooms! Snow was fantastic! Highly recommend!

We got a LOT of SNOW!!! The owner was always available and helpful and the home was well equipped.
We had an amazing time!!! Amazing views from every room, snow everywhere, sleds on the front porch to use, and plenty of room to spread out for a large group. We got snowed in because of a bad storm but still had a great time with movies to watch, games, hot tub, dry sauna, and steam shower! Gorgeous house that is very well maintained. Neighbor has a snowplow and came by early every morning to clear driveway. Would highly recommend this home! We would definitely reserve it for our next visit! Oh, the sunrise from the master bedroom is Spectacular!

Beautiful log home with stunning views!
Honestly, the pictures don't do the house justice, especially when it comes to the view from the back patio and even better, from the large hot tub! We had six in our group and were very comfortable in the home. The owner, Rodney, was very responsive and helpful (he even gave me some nice recommendations in the area). The kitchen was nicely appointed and we loved the coffee maker. The neighborhood is very nice with access to several great trails if you're up for a hike. The furniture was very comfortable and high end.
There are a few things to be aware of it, which didn't deter from our great experience:
1. We felt the house was short on towels (especially with the hot tub in use). After notifying Rodney of this after our return, he indicated he'd ask the maids to leave extras going forward, so hopefully this isn't an issue.
2. Despite having 3 living areas, there is only one television in the entire home, which is upstairs in the loft. If you are like us, you are there to enjoy nature anyway, but this can be an issue for some.
3. As is the case with all of the homes built into the hills, expect some stairs to get to the main entry / front door.
4. Be ready for the morning sun! The home faces east and there weren't really any blinds in the bedrooms, which is great for not obstructing the fantastic views, but does mean you receive a sunny "good morning".
5. There are two guest rooms downstairs that are both nice enough, but they end up sharing one full bathroom. There is a separate shower in the room that contains a nice sauna, but in terms of a vanity area and toilet on this floor, there's only one.
I was torn on the 4 stars vs. 5 and it really came down to a couple of the items noted above. We are already planning our next trip back to Tahoe and we wouldn't hesitate to rent this home again. Truckee is a great town and we enjoyed our stay very much!

The Log House Truckee
Our family had a great stay at the Log House. The views are beautiful, and the house is spacious and nicely furnished. There are LOTS of stairs from the street level down to the house, and many more stairs to access the 3 levels of the home, so those with difficulty with stairs at altitude or very small children should take note.
There are comfortable beds in 3 bedrooms for 6 guests (master with a king and 2 bedrooms on the lower level with double/queen beds)...the cabin description says up to 12 can sleep in the cabin, but if you have a group this large 6 of 12 guests will be sleeping on couches or air mattresses in the common areas. The cabin has 3 separate common areas: living/dining area on the main floor, big family room on the lower level, and a smaller loft with a couch and two chairs and the only television in the home. There's a great hot tub on the main deck with views.
One final note--none of the 3 bedrooms has window coverings. The full moon during our stay shone brightly, as did the sunshine early and late. Hard to complain considering the beautiful views, but our group had trouble sleeping past the 5 am sunrise!
