About this lodge
The Villa is a true escape we know you will enjoy for its foremost location on the river directly adjacent to the National Park and the Jedediah Smith State Park. It is situated on a spectacular spot that exemplifies the Pacific Northwest and its pristine rivers. Our home away from home offers comfort and relaxation while exploring with friends and family our Wild Rivers Coast.
The Villa has a prime location with a 180° view of the Smith River, the cleanest river in California. Newly renovated from top to bottom, our home offers an experience like no other on the river. Wake up to views of the river and to the sound of it rushing by. Enjoy your coffee by big bay windows or dine in the evening by the light of a sunset as the river meanders by on the way to the Pacific.
Our family’s riverfront hideaway is located in Hiouchi, California, just 15 minutes East of Crescent City and outside the coastal zone and so enjoys warmer weather throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.
The house is quietly stationed at the end of a cul de sac which grants plenty of privacy. It is situated on 1.1 acres of gardens and ponds and has a deck that runs the entire length of the house, as well as a large sunroom that allows viewing of the river from inside by all. The architecture is suggestive of a provencal village in Denmark with white paint and red roof, providing a classic ambiance with all the modern comforts to make your stay in the heart of the redwoods memorable and relaxing.
The Villa has been extensively renovated using top of the line finishes including granite tile, new white oak hardwood flooring, as well as new appliances, lighting and furniture. An open floor plan and big windows allow unobstructed views of the redwoods and the Smith River.
No matter the season, your visit will enjoy the outdoors as well as indoors. The first floor offers an expansive kitchen-dining room layout. The dining area features plenty of seating with a table for 12 to host family gatherings. After dinner, enjoy the fireplace in the living room, while curling up on one of several couches to enjoy an evening’s conversation or TV viewing on a 65” flat screen. We provide plenty of games and reading materials to entertain the entire family. The first floor’s, large sunroom serves a dual purpose as it is also our game room with a regulation pool table.
When you are ready for sleep, chose from our 5 mountain-style decorated bedrooms:
The Madrone Master Suite: located on the second floor, king bed, spectacular view of the river from its private balcony, electric fireplace and master bath.
The Doug Fir Room: located on the second floor, queen bed, multiple windows overlooking the river
The Redwood Room: located on the second floor, queen bed, great river view.
The Alder Room: located on the second floor, 2 twin beds and bunk beds, garden and river views.
The Maple Room: located on the first floor, queen bed, garden view with electric wood stove and private entrance.
The Redwoods and the Smith River are a short drive to the entrance of Jedediah National and State Park. The manicured lawn and garden are an incredible treat in the Spring, Summer and Fall, and offer two ponds, Japanese maples, and unique trees and shrubs found nowhere else in the County. Just up the road from the Park is the quaint little town of Hiouchi, which offers a 9 hole golf course, a cafe with BigFoot size pancakes and a small hamlet store for obtaining groceries and gas.
Because we live locally, we can offer a great variety of suggestions for your trip with places to visit and explore including hikes through the redwoods, walks on the beaches or coastal dunes, whale watching, a visit to Battery Point lighthouse, horseback rides on the beaches or in the redwoods, bird watching some of the 413 plus species known to visit Del Norte County and of course fishing on the beautiful Smith River, known for its world record salmon and steelhead fishing.

Such a gem of a place. The view off the river and the backyard is totally underrated. Plenty of space for my family reunion to gather. We roasted hot dogs one night at the fire pit after a day of hiking in the redwoods and playing in the Smith river. Location can’t be beat

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Del Norte. The house was exactly like the description, it had everything you would need for a long weekend and felt private and cozy. Perfect location whether you want to hike or explore the coast. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to vacation in the redwoods.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this home. It was spacious enough for our large group and had plenty of gathering spots so we never felt like we were sitting on top of each other. Having the windows open to hear the river was so relaxing! We had everything we needed and the beds were so comfortable.

Our family loved staying at this beautiful home. The location can’t be beat! Plenty of space and things to do for adults, teenagers, and littles.

Our trip was for our son’s wedding. The house was perfect for a family gathering. Chris was on top of a minor plumbing issue - it was taken care of in no time. I would highly recommend this house if you are headed to the Crescent City area!

Location was absolutely beautiful. In the Redwoods. River access from the house is not easy, but hop in the car for a quick one minute drive with easy access to the river behind the house. Easy 15 minute drive into Crescent City for beach or shopping. Super comfortable home furnishings. Everything we needed was there. Owners were great to work with.

Amazing place... perfect for all our needs. Owner was easy to work with. Looking forward to come back some day.

TL; DR- Stay here, it's amazing!
Our stay here was absolute perfection! We stayed 6 nights, with 10 adults (ages 25-61) & had the BEST time. The listing is accurate, it's super clean, & pictures do not do it justice!
Favorites:
- Location: Nestled in the Jed Smith forest you're in the heart of nature but with wi-fi, plumbing, & Crescent City only 12 minutes away. Neighbors on one side but due to the landscaping you'll feel totally secluded.
- THE VIEWS! Each window overlooks grand forest, the river, or lush gardens. A feast for the eyes & the air smells incredible!
- Super comfy mattresses, great pillows, & fantastic sheets.
- The (softened) tap water tastes GREAT. We typically prefer bottled water but all chose the tap water over store bought!
- Quality kitchen appliances + tools; grill + firepit were great too.
- Actual comfortable adult seating for the whole group in the living room + dining.
- Chris (the host) was communicative & friendly.
- Thoughtful details everywhere.
Notes:
- Master bdrm has no curtains on the river facing windows. Stunning views + private but bring an eye mask if not an early riser.
- Direct river access but good shoes & some scrambling required. Easy river access is just down the road.
- No AC upstairs but ceiling fans + opened (screened) windows kept it plenty cool.
Don't miss:
- Sunrise/sunset on the deck with a warm beverage
- Breakfast at Hiouchi Cafe
- Stout Grove
This is the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. ♡

The rental home was beautiful, comfy beds, very clean and the view of the river just out the backdoor was spectacular! The owners were very responsive and nice. So close to the old Redwood trees and gorgeous river and just 5 minutes the other direction is the Pacific Ocean and beach with amazing views and gorgeous sunsets. This place is perfect to see it all! I Highly recommend this for your stay in Northern CA.

Loved our stay and the view of the river. All the rooms were great and the kids had some much fun planning the front yard

Our family love the outdoors. This home was perfect for adventuring out to the Smith River, the redwoods and the coast. We hiked, fished and lounged on the beaches of both the ocean and the river.
We brought lots of games to play, but everyone just really had fun playing pool! Even the baby! We also played basketball, which was a great treat after a long drive.
We celebrated meals at the large tables. The rooms were perfect, everyone had a place to stay.
The balcony views are amazing.
We have no complaints and thought this host and hostess were the best!
We will definitely be back. Thank you for the hospitality!

Let’s take about the view, waking up every morning to the sound of the smith river, walking out to the balcony and just taking it all in. The view was absolutely marvelous. Relaxing and soothing. Just what was needed. The home was open, clean and just the right fit for us . Such a great time .

The spacious riverfront home nestled in the redwoods right next to smith river was a true gem. The extensive garden provided a tranquil escape, complementing the stunning river views. The interior was tastefully decorated and offered ample room for relaxation. The location was slightly challenging but the seamless check-in process and the host’s thoughtfulness added to the charm of this exceptional getaway. Highly recommended for those seeking a blend of nature and comfort with big family. Chris was so nice to be constantly communicating with us and explaining the details which went into making of this beautiful home!
We would absolutely return to this memorable home.

We had a two week stay for a family vacation and had a wonderful time hanging out, enjoying meals, playing games, going for walks in the redwoods, etc. Very relaxing and enjoyable. And the hosts responded immediately when the microwave quit and they installed a new unit the same day. Couldn't ask for better communication and response. You won't be disappointed!

We are a group of 4 older couples, & rent a house together every fall. We all agreed this trip was one of the best. The house had everything we needed, & the location, right on the beautiful Smith River, was perfect. We hiked some trails that were very close by, & went down to the beach, which was also very close. The owner, Chris, was very nice to deal with.

Perfectly located for the best parts of the Redwoods and Oregan coast. The house has great views of the redwoods from across the Smith River. Chris was extremely friendly, offered great advice, and helped when we had car problems. We loved everything.

Specially it was enough Lenins and towels. Also everything at the kitchen was useful. View was fantastic.
Thanks again

Due to a major forest fire that closed roads and put evacuations in place in many neighboring areas, we were unable to stay at this lovely property. Chris was extremely understanding, communicative and flexible, and gave us a full refund. It was very sad to miss this opportunity, but as they say “nature bats last.” We hope to stay here in the Smith River in the future!

There was something for everyone here! Pool table was so fun overlooking the river, and when we weren’t in there we were working on a puzzle on the large dining room table. Lots of adventures and exploring near by. Especially loved to see all the generations enjoying time together, from a 9 year old to a 90 year old. Kitchen was convenient to use and we all slept sooo well, thank you!

The location is amazing, a short drive from hiking trails in the state park, right on the Smith River, and about 12 minutes from Crescent City. The house is super comfortable, kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. Our family had lots of room for teens to hang out and parents to relax. Looking forward to staying again!

Our family and our friends’ family stayed here for about a week. We loved the house. The views can’t be beat. Waking up to the river every morning was divine. The house was large enough to fit us all without feeling like we were stepping on each other. The kids could run around outside, and loved the pool table in the sun room. We wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely be back.

The house is located on the beautiful Smith River, just a short drive to Jedediah Smith State Park. We were able to take several walks in the Redwoods during our week long stay, and traveled south to visit Prairie Creek State Park as well. The large living areas in the house provided plenty of room for the five of us. We especially enjoyed the comfy living room furniture and large dining and kitchen tables. Falling asleep to the sounds of the rushing waters of the river every night was the icing on the cake.

A beautiful view, quiet, private location. Well located for touring. The host was very responsive to questions and needs. The kitchen is better stocked than any I’ve ever rented and the host made a point of saying if we lacked something, just ask. The beds and seating need some updating … things are getting worn.

We enjoyed our stay here very much! Thank you for everything! The property is in great shape and our stay was incredibly comfortable. Close enough to "run to town" but felt like we were "away from it all"

We had a family trip to the Redwoods and loved staying at this big accommodating home near the Smith river. The views are spectacular and location of home perfect for visiting the Redwoods or Crescent City/beaches. We appreciated the details, size, and amenities of the home! We very much enjoyed the fireplace too. My suggestions are to switch out the large rectangle table with a slightly smaller one and complete various maintenance work on the home (securing pockets on the pool table, make sturdier the bar chairs, install missing hooks in bathrooms, fix leaky sky window, and make sturdier outside deck).

The view of the river at this home is absolutely breathtaking. Easy access to the river for fishing was extremely convinent, and kept my family busy. Great location, beautiful golf course less than 2 miles down the road; also, not a long drive to Crescent City. The home had all the accomodations we could ask for, and was comfortable. Heating was also sufficient. We can't wait to plan our next trip to visit this location again.

Had a great stay at the property. A little hard to find the first time, but after that a piece of cake. Amazed that we saw so many large redwoods just driving to the place. Although we had a lot of rain, and we were not able to make much use of the deck and outside, the inside was more than adequate. Owner was available to help with questions and we had a great stay. Would also stay there again if we find ourselves back in N. Cali.

Had a lovely stay. Chris was very welcoming and the house was just perfect for a family get together. House is on the river and among the redwoods so if you are looking for some quiet and relaxation this is he perfect location. My family and I love games so the pool table was a big bonus as well as the large round game table. Would definitely stay here again! Also, my husband left something behind and Chris graciously retrieved it for us. Thank you Chris!

We loved our visit! The house was perfect for our family gathering, with lots of space for everyone to spread out and relax. We spent the days cooking and eating, playing games, and watching the river rise and fall. It was lovely.
The property is beautiful and just as advertised. Chris was very communicative and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed at this Redwoods villa for our annual family holiday. Our family came from Ohio, Michigan, Los Angeles and Hawaii to this beautiful, spacious villa. Our hosts made such a comfortable home away from home in the most beautiful location. They thought of everything, and went above and beyond. Parks, hikes and the majestic redwoods are nearby and the quaint costal town of Crescent City is a short drive away. I would definitely stay here again!

We LOVED staying here and can’t wait to come back again. The location and amenities were exactly what we were looking for. The kitchen and living spaces were great and allowed us to spread out.

Wonderful stay at this beautifully located property. Amazing how clean the house was given it's size. Very spacious and open with every amenity. The pool table was a big hit. Kitchen was well stocked with everything for cooking. Really enjoyed how quiet and scenic the location is, while still being close to town. Chris was very responsive with our questions. Bathrooms were well appointed. Sheets, pillows and bedding were all very nice. Highly recommend this property.
