About this cabin rental

The Glow Room at Indian Hollow is a history-rich 1850 post & beam barn, renovated in a light-filled, post modern style.

Imagine getting out of your car, opening the screen door to a big porch that overlooks a leaping mountain brook, deep enough to dunk in. Then pass through the strap-hinged front door and into a glowing pine-paneled great room with giant windows, a big wood stove, 3 Chesterfield couches, dining area and kitchen. You see the forest all around you, but you're inside, ready to unwind.

Upstairs, the loft features the master bedroom (sleeps 2, queen) and a reading/games room (can sleep 2, futon).

Walking into the ell, you pass the bathroom, the 'room with no purpose,' and the guest bedroom (sleeps 2, futon) which opens onto the back deck, where the barbecue is, and the sound of the leaping waters.

In summer the lawn is thick and lush, and you are surrounded with pines, birches, maples and mountains. Chauncey Brook forms the east border & offers a serene and ferny welcome; overlooking it, there's a beautiful firepit surrounded by log benches. The southern border is the Dead Branch Brook with its refreshing plunge pools.

About a 1/4 mile downstream it joins the East Branch of the Westfield River, a federally-designated 'Wild and Scenic River.' We will provide you with maps and information about the area, which contains extraordinary opportunities for picnicking, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, x-country skiing, snow-shoeing, photography and painting. And being alone, with someone you want to be alone with.

This property is designed to inspire the maximum enjoyment of the 15+ square miles of open space that begins at its doorstep. The Glow Room is a launching pad.

To amplify the quiet and help you unplug, there is no internet service (bring DVDs for your laptop). New cell phones work, but will drop out.

It’s an overworked word, I know, but I can’t think of a better way to describe the many discoveries and unexpected beauties this property offers. The cabin is as cozy and lovely as the photos show, and unusually well-appointed for a rental. The forest and water and wildflowers that surround it are even better. I loved the remote location, too.

Wow, where to start? Staying in your cabin was a highlight of our trip to the area to tour colleges with our teens. Yes, the cabin is not super close to the colleges & yes, the cabin had no wi-fi or phone service for us, but still, we would stay here again in a heartbeat & whole heartedly recommend it to others who don’t mind trading a lack of connectivity to gain time in this homey cabin where every detail is so thoughtfully considered and to have all the wonderful, uncrowded nature right outside your door.

I think if I wrote everything I wanted to say, it would be a novel, so I’ll keep it short. The Glow Room is a beautiful place. It is clean, spacious, and in the most peaceful area. I highly recommend this home if you’re looking to get away from everything.

We had one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives at the magical waterfall nearby this little house (accessible only by an interesting 30' hike). The Glow room itself was nice inside- clean and airy, and the beds were comfortable I was disappointed that there was no screened in outdoor space to hang out (there is a front porch, but it is not kept up well or furnished to relax). But if you like to hike, and love a babbling brook, then the location is a joy.

Once we figure out how to get in and that internet and phone were a way off top of hill 1/2 mile away from house we adjusted and enjoyed the peace and quiet I should have researched this listing more thoroughly only 1 bathroom on 2nd floor made it prohibiting for someone my age who gets up frequently to use the bathroom other than those issues it was fine

From the moment we stepped out of our car, we knew this was a one of a kind place. The sound of the water was intense and exhilarating, but as soon as we stepped inside the house, the environment changed to one of quiet, peace, and warmth. The first thing we noticed was all the beautiful, one-of-a-kind pottery that included mugs, bowls, basket with handle, and the gorgeous tiles that lined the chimney. Turns out the owner is a talented artist! The house is quirky with a wide ranging collection of vintage and found objects but neatly assembled and tied together with crisp modern white walls and warm wood floors and structures of various shades. We enjoyed the wood stove and the warm, comfortable beds at night and headed out to explore the area and (attend a wedding!) Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home!

Just as we were finally getting some crisp fall weather we made our way out to The Glow Room. Truly a relaxing place to spend a long weekend walking the nearby trails and gazing out at the rushing river. Every window has another lovely autumn scene. We’ll be back!

Visiting the east coast from New Mexico, we were looking for a place in the woods where work and email couldn't follow us. The house and location were perfect. The kitchen is wonderfully appointed and the temperature was perfect inside the house. Lots of natural beauty nearby - feels isolated but there are lots of lovely small towns a short drive away. It was great - would love to return.

Great little cabin! Remote location down a long gravel road, little to no cell service, but a charming and fun place to stay. A good base location to get to everything you want to see in western Mass. Could get to almost anywhere within about an hour. Well supplied kitchen. Nice bathroom. Enclosed porch. Fire pit and sitting area in backyard. Creek right across the road. Would come back to stay in a heartbeat.

What a wonderful place! Super clean, comfortable, beautifully designed and minimally but artistically decorated. The location is incredible- literally across the street from miles of trails and the river. Loved having no cell reception or Wi-Fi, honestly, but take the recommendation to bring your own entertainment seriously- there really were no books or (intact!) games/puzzles to toy with, and no stereo or record player etc that we could find. One thing to note is that sounds carry like crazy because of the open loft structure and all the wood. Not a problem for me and my mother, but for larger families or folks who have very different wake/sleep times just be aware. I want to come back in every season...What a true escape, immersed in quiet and nature, yet with all the best comforts of the modern world.

We stayed for 5 days at the "Glow Room". The property was very stylish and well appointed. The vibe was extremely calm. An excellent place for connecting, writing, art or music. The off-the-grid feature was welcomed and enhanced our trip. There is a bubbling stream across the road from the house which can be navigated. We also enjoyed amazing day trips to Chesterfield Gorge and Glens Falls for private, lazy swimming days. Northhampton is also well within reach for a night out!

I reserve 5 stars for very comfortable/lovely places, which you don't want to leave. I thought there was a lot of nice things about this place, but overall would give it 3-4 stars for coziness/comfort/appearance. I am not taking off from the rating for this, bc it was clearly stated by the hosts, but I just want to add a note about the lack of service. We ended up struggling with the lack of service more than expected. Neither my husband or I got service even 10 min drive from the house (AT and T/Verizon). It was mainly hard because we are not local and were not familiar with the area (lots of U-turns when we figured out we were going the wrong way). Trying to plan for activities/trips even local markets (how far, how to get there, hours open, etc) was hard. Also, there would have been no way to call if an emergency occurred (no land line that we could see). I would just say to plan as much as possible before you arrive if you plan to check out the local towns/attractions.

The Glow Room was the perfect place to bring guitar, banjo, keyboard and some simple recording devices for two days of music play. Robbie was flexible when a predicted hurricane blew through our plans. The stream across from the front porch was roaring beautifully when we got there, and the crickets chimed in. Great retreat, lovely space; highly recommend.

Our weekend in the Glow Room was refreshing and recharging to say the least. The river is absolutely incredible, and the forest and its paths are beautiful. The home is a serene and clean oasis, and we appreciated the kitchen having all the necessities for doing a little bit of cooking. We will absolutely be returning as soon as we can!

We loved our stay at the Glow Room (family of four, kids ages 7 and 11). The house is absolutely fantastic, with thoughtful and artful touches everywhere. The decorating was definitely inspiring. Every window had a special view of wildflowers and beautiful forest. The beds were all very comfortable and the house was incredibly clean. The location is amazing. We had so much fun exploring the brook and jumping around the rocks. We also loved the location for all we were able to drive to explore throughout the area: Dinosaur Prints Park (not a destination in itself but worth a stop along the drive), Mass MOCA and surrounding hiking, Three Sisters Sanctuary, Shelburne Falls with its Bridge of Flowers and the Potholes, and our absolute favorite- Chesterfield Gorge.We also just loved being able to unplug and be present. Thank you for a fantastic stay. We are already planning our next visit!
