We had a lovely week at this house. It was very quiet and private as it was set back in the woods. We saw some deer around the property. The piano was wonderful.
We had the windows open the entire time. The air is so clean here!
Every day we went out either for dinner or an activity. I’ve had our dog with us and she loved visiting here.

Initially disappointed. Foul musty odor upon entrance. Not air conditioned/ wasn’t aware of this. Owner acknowledged having sump pump problems and quickly got this repaired. Had problems w gas stove and no use of oven but able to make it work. House was quaint but lower bedroom had spiders I had to kill and moldy shower curtain. Owner was very nice. Had to go out to buy bounce sheets and candles to help house smell better. Would look for different home to stay in if would return.

Property was perfect for stay on the Quiet Side. You feel like you are in middle of the woods, just sounds of nature. Cabin was clean and well appointed, Cherie was very responsive to all communication. Very easy access to harbor towns and west side Acadia trails.

Beautiful handcrafted home in a very rural and quiet setting. Wonderful and relaxing to return to after a day of exploring Acadia and surrounding areas.
Everything you need is provided. Great water pressure, comfortable sleeping and just a charming home.
Cherie is wonderful and friendly and easily accessible if need be.
The visit from the porcupine wandering through the property was a pleasant surprise.

Cherie's place was wonderful! My husband and I spent four nights here for our visit to Acadia and loved it. It is tucked back in the woods on a beautiful property and was very quiet and peaceful, which was lovely to come back to every evening after the hustle and bustle of the park and Bar Harbor. The kitchen was very well equipped and we cooked lots of our meals at the house. Cherie was an excellent host and was very communicative and happy to answer any questions. Would love to stay again the next time we visit the area.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Slate House. Cherie is providing a house that is relaxing and surrounds you with everything you need to feed your spirit! The house itself is very special. The house is nestled in the woods with perennial gardens. Within the house you will be surrounded by art. The house itself is situated just 3 miles from the Southwest Harbor and within 3 miles of Acadia west island hiking trails. You will be a max of a 20 minutes drive to the Acadia National Park Beach entrance. Thank you to Cherie for sharing her house.

From the moment I drove down the gravel drive to Cheri's hideaway, I just knew my stay would be wonderful. The acres of pines and birches, the hillsides filled with gardens welcomed me with beauty. Cheri is a delightful homeowner, kind and giving and her home is designed and decorated with her artistic flair. Everything one could need or want is provided for and more. We enjoyed all of the art on the walls and the views out of the many windows. It was so enjoyable seeing the garden blossoms emerge each day. I would highly recommend this little piece of paradise.

This is a beautiful, well cared for and loved, home-- both tucked away and peaceful and yet so very close to all the Acadia attractions -- the best of both worlds! Cherie is a wonderful host, an amazing artisan, and generous with very useful 'insider' tips to make your stay on the island perfect. We were only able to stay 6 days, but in that time, hiked, kayaked, swam, and rode our bikes-- and our only regret is not having more time to spend just relaxing in and around the house! This house, like the beautiful jewelry Cherie makes, is a gem! The trick is finding time available! We will definitely return!

The Slate House is everything you’d imagine for a perfect quiet vacation. It’s off the radar 2 miles from Bass Harbor which is a charming village on “The Quiet Side” of Mt Desert Island. Factor in Southwest Harbor being 5 miles away and there are enough amenities to keep anyone engaged, from boat and sailing charters, to kayaking, to shops and restaurants. Oh yeah, the weather is ideal, 60’s at night an mid 70’s in the daytime
Cheri, the owner couldn’t be a more perfect host, as well as delightfully engaging.

Relaxing & quiet
We visited Acadia & couldn’t have found a better place to stay that suited us. It is a short 30 minute drive to Cadillac Mountain, 5 minutes to Bass Harbor light house & several wonderful restaurants within a 10 minute drive. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long day out and have a nice, quiet, cozy & beautiful home to relax in at the end of the day. The hostess, Cherie was so kind & helpful.

Beautiful cottage in the woods
My daughter and I stayed at Slate House for our girls trip and absolutely loved the house. It’s a beautiful cozy cottage in the woods and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Cherie was a fabulous host. Highly recommend!

Slate House vacation
We had a relaxing vacation at the Slate House. The location was great as we were just far enough away from crowds yet easily could drive to Acadia. Cheri was a lovely host and took good care of us in all ways.

Beautiful, relaxing home base
The Slate House is a beautiful, thoughtfully-designed home with an amazing kitchen and very spacious living areas. Unlike many vacation places we've stayed, the living room furniture is genuinely comfortable. The grounds are lovely and verdant, and the gardens are colorful. Cherie was a great host, always quick to respond when we needed anything, generous with herbs from her garden, friendly, and also respectful of our privacy. We've already booked a return stay next summer.

Great spot to visit Acadia No Crowds
This was our first VRBO experience and it was fantastic. The cottage was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed if we wanted to cook. Our host, Cherie, was lovely and very friendly. Southwest Harbor is nice and chill with still easy access to Acadia. Glad we didn’t stay in Bar Harbor, too touristy.

Perfect location for South MDI trips
We loved our stay at the Slate house. Close to Bass Harbor and the historic lighthouse(highly recommend the boat tour out of bass Harbor). Wonderland trail had wonderful tide pools and was less than 10 minutes away. A bit of a drive if you're looking to spend time in Bar Harbor or head to the Schoodic Peninsula, but it was perfect for us.

A craftsman home of beauty and peace
This is a premier property, a craftsman style home, that is owned and run by an absolutely delightful artisan. The property is on the lower edge of Acadia, but is very convenient to all activities. Bar Harbor was only about 25 min. away. The Acadia driving loop was only about 20 min. away. Groceries and good restaurants were just as close. The grocery is only about 10 min. away. This home is in an extremely peaceful location, with amazing flowers all around the property. My wife and I loved this home and would gladly come and visit again. Highly recommended for those seeking peace and quiet and beauty, and yet be close to the national park and excellent food. Fantastic.

Sweet spot in the woods!
Cherie's lovely home in the woods near Bass Harbor was a quiet getaway for our two couples. The home is spacious, plenty of room for 4 adults, but with the pot-bellied stove it felt nice and cozy. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable and we even did one of Cherie's jigsaw puzzles. Remember to take a look at the stars one night - amazing!

Great getaway spot
This was the perfect getaway spot. The house was clean and nice. It was close to Acadia but not in a busy area and was quiet. Everything about the check-in and check-out process was easy and socially distanced. Cherie is available if you need her. Would stay here again.

Charming and relaxing oasis on Mount Desert island.
Our family enjoyed everything about Cherie's property, location, space, amenities to name a few. Most of all we felt welcomed and Cherie went out of her way to make sure our stay was perfect. We are already planning to go back next year. A true Jewel.

A beautiful place in the woods
The slate house is beautiful and unique. Small art work surprises you at every turn, and larger paintings are exhibited as well. But the house is comfortable in every way, with lots of space and a great kitchen for cooking of any kind.
Cherie was a wonderful host: helpful, and a pleasure to get to know.

Fantastic Getaway
This was the perfect getaway for myself and my family. The house was eclectic and funky, which I prefer, but had all the basics covered. It was secluded and quiet since it was set back from the road quite a bit, but it was in close proximity to everything one could need. The host, Cherie, was always around to help with whatever question you might have and was responsive to all our needs. Can't recommend this place highly enough. If you are looking to see Acadia but stay on the "quiet side" of MDI, this is the place.

Love Mt. Desert Island and the Quiet Side
Cherie's home is a delight and it was great to get to know her and the area. We stayed for a week, enjoyed every day and every expectation we had was met. A wonderful place to stay- it is quieter than some of the rest of Mt. Desert Island, but that was a big plus to us as first time visitors.

Wonderful Acadia Experience
My husband and I booked a week-long stay in July at the Slate House, and were blown away. The home is very big for a two bedroom, and the common space is inviting and cozy. We loved the big kitchen and commercial stove - diner breakfasts every morning! While "off the beaten path" on the quiet side of the island, it was still very accessible and easy to get around, see the sites, hike and enjoy the local lobster and foods. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone!
