Hot Tub!!
Come and enjoy the gorgeous accommodations and spectacular, unparalleled views of Southwest Harbor at 'Midships' at Windward Shores. Windward Shores is an exclusive 3 unit condominium enviably situated at the head of the harbor on the shores of Southwest Harbor. Don't shy away because of the word 'condo', this is no cookie-cutter condo! Windward Shores is not part of a larger complex. It is just one custom built waterfront property in a quiet residential neighborhood, with a homey, cottage feel. 'Midships' is the largest of the 3 condos boasting 3 levels, floor to ceiling windows, private patio, deck, sloping lawns, and private dock.
From the gleaming hardwood floors and spiral wooden staircase to the granite counter tops and tiled doubled-headed master shower, it's the attention to detail that make 'Midships' a cut above the rest.
With truly breathtaking views from any of the three levels at 'Midships' as well as from the deck and private master patio with hot tub, you're ever close the the ocean. Closer still, step out to the sloping lawn, where you'll find seating and a Chiminea (outdoor fireplace or 'fire pot') just above the shoreline and access to Windward Shores own private dock, all right in front of you!
Attention to Detail: As you walk into 'Midships' main level, you are consumed by panoramic views of the harbor. The open floor plan of this level allows you to soak in the views whether you're cooking in the kitchen, relaxing in the sitting area and watching cable on the flat screen HDTV or dining at the table with family and friends. The fully appointed kitchen has gorgeous granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, including a double oven, cook top stove, refrigerator with water/ice dispenser and a built in microwave. Take the spiral staircase to the upper level and find a great spot for watching the activity of the harbor, enjoying cable on the flat screen HDTV, or curling up with a good book. This level also offers a bedroom with double bed.
In the lower level you'll find the master bedroom with hot tub on private patio overlooking the harbor, tiled master bath with double-headed shower, a second bedroom with twin beds, and another bathroom with tub and shower. Plenty of room to spread out!
Away from the crowds but close to everything! Situated on the 'quiet side' of the island, you can enjoy the real Downeast Maine away from the crowds, but still be within minutes of world-famous Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. You can explore all that the park has to offer by yourself, take a guided tour or take Mount Desert Island's bus, the 'Island Explorer', available to the public free of charge! Destinations include just about anywhere you want to go on the island. There are a number of outfitters located on Mount Desert Island that rent bicycles and kayaks, several with walking distance of 'Midships'. A stroll into Southwest Harbor or a short drive to Bar Harbor and you can enjoy a wide variety of activities from the most relaxed to the most rigorous, dining for all tastes and budgets, and shopping in many unique shops and galleries. Regardless of your interests, 'Midships' and the surrounding attractions are sure to make for a fulfilling vacation!
Come in the Fall-Beautiful Foliage, lower rates! : The months of September and October are a fabulous time to come to 'Midships'. The rates are lower, the crowds have left, the weather is comfortable and the foliage is spectacular!!!
Have school-age kids but still want to avoid the crowds, why not come to 'Midships' in June!

Nice condo with plenty of space and everything we needed for a lovely week. Beautiful view. We had a couple of minor issues. The property owner responded immediately to our messages and had the issues fixed quickly and professionally. Definitely recommend this property!

Our family of five really enjoyed our stay! You couldn't get a better view of the harbor, and the accommodations were perfect for use and our three kids.

Very nice. Great location and view. Bedroom situation for second couple had no windows and no heat and air. Otherwise a wonderful townhome.

Had a great time here - very well laid out, comfortable, impeccably clean (not a crumb in the pantry drawers which blew my mind). Bring your own kitchen knives if you’re particular, but otherwise it had everything we needed! So easy to store bikes in the master bedroom on the ground floor and on the porch area right outside the bedroom. Never used the hot tub, but it looked clean and welcoming! Wonderful view, easy parking, comfortable beds, considerate hosts. Definitely a great rental.

This was our first family vacation to Maine and Acadia National Park. The location was great and property amazing.

The property was great for our visit. We had two young adults enjoy the upstairs and to sleep in while we had the downstairs master and the use of the deck for our early morning breakfasts. We enjoyed being in the Southwest Harbor. You can walk to town for dinner and shopping, in addition to getting the bus to the park and Bar Harbor.

During our week stay we enjoyed the accomodations providing our every need. We especially loved the view of the harbor from every floor. It was the perfect refuge between hikes during rainy weather. It was close enough to shops for teen daughters to explore on their own and the hot tub was so rejuvenating.
Thank you for providing such a cozy beautiful backdrop for our family's wonderful memories!

Wonderful property right on the harbor. When you walk through the front door you are welcomed by an amazing view of the harbor through the floor to ceiling windows. No matter which of the 3 floors you are on this is the case. Place was well maintained. I would definitely come back here!

This place on the harbor was perfect for us four women celebrating our 40th birthdays! We enjoyed the views, the deck, and the dock so much! Laundry and a full were was so helpful too! We booked a lobster boat tour (which we walked to) and a kayaking tour right out of this town! The town is much more peaceful than Bar Harbor and it only took us roughly 30 minutes to get to Acadia and Bar Harbor. If you’re looking for close hiking, Acadia Mountain is just down the road, maybe five minutes. I will say the place can get a little toasty in the mid and upper levels, especially during the day. The basement seems to have AC and is always cool. On a side note, we did stay when the temps were above normal for the season so maybe my assessment is a little skewed. Be sure to empty the dehumidifier at least once a day! It fills up fast with so much humidity in the air! I highly recommend this place!

Perfect location with great views
This is our 2nd time to stay at Midships. As always, it was wonderful. The House/Condo has everything and perfect for our needs. Location in SW Harbor is great; only minutes away from other parts of MDI. Sunrises are incredible; sound of the Boats in and out of the Harbor add to the ambiance. Found a few new places this time. We will definitely be back!

Since we have owned boats most of our lives, it was relaxing to watch the boat activity . Awesome view from all 3 levels.

We loved this condo. Since it was in Southwest Harbor there were way less crowds than Bar Harbor. We loved the view of the working harbor. So fun to watch in the mornings. We would recommend this condo to others.

Marvelous Midships
We have visited Southwest Harbor many many times and this is our second stay at Midships. We particularly love this place for the beautiful views of the harbor from all three floors. It is very comfortable and cozy for six. It is also a short walk into the village. Downside? It is about a 20 to 25 minute drive over to Bar Harbor. Jane always is very communicative when we have questions or concerns. They keep the place in very good condition and we really couldn't ask for more. We feel this home is a good value for staying in the Acadia NP area.

Awesome view
We stayed at this property just prior to Memorial Day weekend. The condo is lovely and has a million dollar view out over the harbor. We appreciated that it was well-stocked; the attention to detail to provide coffee filters, dish soap, laundry detergent, paper towels, extra bath towels, masks and sanitizer was a blessing. We used the hot tub several times and watched movies a couple evenings on the large TV upstairs. Although this condo isn't in Bar Harbor, it was an easy ~20 minute drive over there and to the Acadia National Park Loop road entrance. Because we came prior to Memorial Day (and due to lingering issues related to Covid), some shops, restaurants and activities weren't open yet. But we still found plenty to do and weren't disappointed. Thanks for sharing the condo with us!

Great Views!
Well kept property with a gorgeous view. Unwinding for long hiking trips in the hot tub was great. It takes some time to learn how to control the temperature at the property since the temperature fluctuates so much (but we figured it out pretty quick) but otherwise a perfect stay!

Short 3 day Break at Acadia National Park
Great to stay at the quieter Southeast Harbor with Cadillac mountain only a 30 minute drive away.
Upper Deck restaurant was excellent and 3 doors down the road.
Walks and weather were superb with great views.

A great place to stay near Acadia
The house is beautifully situated right next to a marina, with a great view. Easy drive to Acadia, Suitable for families with kids. Some climate control issues, but overall a very good place to stay.,

Great views- uncomfortable stay
This property has a spectacular view, unfortunately it is also one of the most uncomfortable properties in which I have stayed. I am also a VRBO Platinum owner and I had standard expectations of this platinum property that were not met:
1) comfort
2) maintenance and cleanliness
3) furnishings
The property has some really nice enhancements like the kitchen appliances and cooking items, master bathroom is also nicely remodeled with big shower and slate floor, marble wall tiles, quality fixtures. Lovely art decorated many of the rooms.
The challenge is the low comfort and quality of furnishings, the small tight stair cases and maintenance of the property.
Beds are incredibly uncomfortable, we ended up buying memory foam toppers for the beds after our first sleepless night in the condo.
The stair cases are difficult to maneuver with luggage-the guests next door took their luggage around the outside of the condo, rather than trying to navigate the stairs. They also left a day early for the same issues we experienced.
Sitting area chairs are very uncomfortable, we opted to lay on the floor to watch tv on the tiny computer monitors that are used as TVs.
The entry floor restroom also housed the nice stackable washer and dryer, unfortunately the space is so small that to open the washer door you have to lift the toilet seat and to access the dryer you have to duck to open the door to load the clothes.
Lots of little unmatched furnishings including a plethora of occasional tables that were unnecessary and further crowded the small spaces.
My recommendations would be to purchase a comfortable seating arrangement like a sectional couch, get rid of all the non-built-in storage, replace the beds (king in master would have been nice) provide quality bedding, purchase medium sized tv’s and hang them to free up space and make it feel more open.
Give the place a little maintenance love, floors were not clean, cabinets were sticky from lots of use, fix the kitchen water dispenser that is loose, tighten the guest toilet that was loose, the microwave turntable no longer turns, enjoy the gift of the blender we purchased.
I know reviews are important to us owners, so this is challenging to write, with better furnishings this place could be great, the views are incredible and while small, the place has some remodeled features that are nice.
Until these items are addressed, I would pass on this property.
Hiked daily in Acadia park!
