About this house rental
TROPICAL RUNaWAY has 110 five star reviews! The beach houses are situated on 2 1/2 acres with over 500' of white sandy beach and a private swimming pool, for the guests of TROPICAL RUNaWAY. The pool is shared between the two houses on the property, but there is great privacy between the houses. The property is ideal for those who wish to relax in a hammock in the shade of a cabana, or those who wish to dive the wall a short distance from shore. Locals claim this is the best beach for shelling, strolling and watching the sunset over Little Cayman. We are the last property on the end of the island. Convenience and tranquility make this truly a destination for the romantic and adventurous. We are equipped for scuba divers, with rinse and drying stations. Our water is town water and perfectly safe for drinking and cooking. The covered porch beckons for a cold beer or a Pina Colada while overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the sunset over Little Cayman. You have no visible neighbours. If you are so inclined you can split a coconut, have a hermit crab race or stroll through our paths carved amongst the Sea Grapes. This peace of heaven is ready to rent. We are close to the major resorts and restaurants if you need a 'neon' fix and far enough away that you can play Castaway. You will enjoy your stay and you will not want to leave.
Our beach is the turtle nesting beach on Cayman Brac. June through November turtles can be observed in the evening scooping out the sand preparing for their egg laying. Check out the tropicalrunaway website to see a photo of a giant green sea turtle on our beach. We also have nesting Loggerhead and Hawksbill sea turtles. Other resident wildlife on the island that are fun to observe are the nesting Brown Boobies on the bluff in March and April and the large Iguanas that live down the road year round.
The bedroom has a pillow top king bed, that can be split into twins. No tossing and turning all night because of a hard lumpy bed. There is a large closet, a generous supply of towels and other linens. The bathroom has an extra large shower. The great room has a well equipped kitchen, a flat screen TV, dining table, and a convertible couch that pulls out to a queen size bed.
The kitchen is well equipped..

My wife and I had a wonderful stay. The cottage was exactly as listed. During our stay, the main house was empty. So we had the complete property to ourselves. The property is to die for. Its like being on your own oasis. Having the pool is an absolute blessing on those hot days. Also, lets not forget there are chickens. Endless eggs. I would highly recommend this home if you're visiting Cayman Brac.

A truly wonderful place on a wonderful island. The home is well equipped, the location is great. I had the pleasure of meeting the property owners. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and very much look forward to returning.

We absolutely loved our time at Hawksbill! It was perfect for just me and my husband! A wonderful family rented the larger house and we had a great time sharing the pool and beach with them. This place is truly a piece of heaven on earth! We hope to come back next year and stay here again! Thank you Karen and Ray!!

This house is on a great part of the island. Great reef, and close to all restaurants and stores. The proximity to the airport does not affect the property.

The owners were at the big house, so perhaps a biased review, but we were treated like family. Thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommended.

We were so fortunate to find a little bit of heaven on the Brac at Tropical Runaway! The communication in planning our holiday was fabulous! Karen answered all of our questions and gave such wonderful advice of getting there to where to eat and what to see! Upon arrival, there was no issue checking in and we found everything we needed for a great holiday. The kitchen is well stocked to cook all meals, the pool was a welcome break from the heat of the day, and the cabana was great to watch the daily sunsets from. For a wonderful stay, we highly recommend staying at Tropical Runaway!!

Our extended family of ten: 7 adults and three young grandchildren had a wonderful time at this beautiful property. If the rating went to 10 I would give it 10! We rented the main house and the smaller cottage. Both were perfect. The grandkids and adults all loved the pool and the beach. We saw turtle tracks on the beach and even parrots in the lush landscaping around the house. We loved the island and the people. The island is very relaxed and not crowded. When we arrived at the airport we were warmly greeted by both Sondra, the house caretaker and a representative from B&S Motor Ventures with our rented van. It was a very nice and easy start to a great vacation.
I cannot say enough about the house and the grounds. The house is beautiful and the grounds make you feel like you are living in a tropical garden. There are even chickens to provide fresh eggs. The grandchildren loved collecting the eggs everyday. The houses has everything one could ever need. Karen the owner was great to deal with. A five star rating just seems too low! We would go back in a minute.

4th trip to the Cayman Islands and 3rd to braq. Really enjoyed the stay at hawksbill. The pool and grill (good call on the sea grape wood for bbq) were great places to watch the sunset as was the cabana down near the ocean. Place had great ac and was very clean. Outdoor shower was a hit and the potable water and ice were also very handy. Very private and peaceful vacation even as the main house was rented. Only saw the other family a few times. The highlight outside of great diving was helping the dept of environment volunteers release baby turtles back to the sea. Loved our stay and hope to be back.

This was our fourth time to the Brac and our fourth stay at Hawksbill (or, heaven, as I call it). Karen, Ray, Henry and Heather have continued to improve the property over the years; adding a pool; adding a new wooden deck outside Hawksbill and improving outdoor lighting and landscaping. Luckily, a couple of things have not changed over the years; the quiet, relaxing beach and the amazing stargazing. You could sit on the beach all day and not see another person on the beach - that's my kind of beach vacation. This property is truly a little piece of heaven, and you can quickly tell its a labor of love.
A few tips to travelers: Check out Barry's Golden Jerk; Friday night BBQ at Brac Reef Beach Resort and amazing pizza, beer, cocktails and darts at Barracuda's.
Ray, Karen, Henry and Heather - If you ever decide to sell, please let us know!

What a beautiful spot! So quiet and so few people. We had the pool and beach to ourselves. Ray and Karen are delightful hosts. They shared fresh caught fish and we had fresh eggs from their chickens. Relaxing and comfortable and quiet.
If you're looking for resorts and shopping and lots to go and do, the Brac is not the place for you. But if you want to truly relax this is the spot!

Our adult family of 7 had a fabulous vacation at Tropical Runway!! The houses were even better than the pictures showed, the browns were wonderful and we loved the fresh eggs every morning. the views are breathtaking and the privacy was perfect. We met a few locals and were turned on to swimming in the coral pool down the beach...everything was better than expected. When going to the store, we do recommend driving a little further and going to the larger store, more selection and a little lower prices.
We also enjoyed a nice dinner at the Captains Table and the Thursday night crab races at the resorts bar were fun as well. We definitely plan on come back.

Returned to Tropical Runaway for second year in a row. I think we have our vacation home. Stayed at Hawksbill this time. A great, relaxing time. So nice to know that upon arrival we will be staying at a well maintained, clean place. We came to relax and that's what we did. Walks on the secluded beach, dips in the pool, relaxing with a book in the cabana, or touring the island, we were always having a good time, absolutely stress free. Only way to improve things would be to stay longer. Karen and Ray are great hosts. Thank you for sharing your place in paradise.

The house had everything we needed. Lots of appliances and a comfortable bed.
Due to the wind we didn't get much snorkeling in. The kayaks were a great bonus and we were able to spend time out on the water. Shore shoes are a must but there is lots of sandy beach to explore and hunt for shells.
Everything we required for eating was within walking distance.
The sunsets were fantastic! We left totally relaxed.
Thanks Karen for sharing your house.

This place really was a paradise. Flights onto the island are direct from Miami on Saturdays. There are three rental car companies all of which will bring your vehicles to the airport for pickup. Though if you don't plan on going out late at night the "taxis" will take you anywhere on the island for 10 bucks per trip. There is a landline in the house to make local calls with. The Airport and grocery store are about a 20 min walk from the house if your into that kind of thing. Also within a 20 minute walk is some great snorkeling with a ladder into the ocean at the end of Robert Foster Ln. Great for beginners. There three sets of life jackets, water shoes, and masks and snorkels to borrow. I recommend bringing your own fins and masks. Make sure you have shoes/fins that cover your entire foot if you plan to get in the ocean. Sharp rocks and sea urchins will get the best of you walking in from the shore :-) The pier at the end of Cemetery Rd has amazing snorkeling and even better beginners diving.
So Marketplace Market and Deli is the better of the grocery stores vs Kirkconnell's Market. more selection but maybe a little more expensive. Brac Scuba Shack is a must for your equipment rentals. They can get you certified for less than $500 and just two days of work. I think it was $175 for discover Scuba.
So the house(s)!!!! The pool has amazing setup. Cover form the sun on half the pool most of the day. Lighting and corn hole is all right there as well. The kitchens are fully loaded. Pans, knifes, baking stuff, huge fridge, dishwasher, microwave, gas stove and oven and 7ft island. There is a sitting area and the screened in porch runs the expanse of the back of the house!!!! Grill and wrap around deck also included int he upper house. There is a chicken coop to the fresh eggs from and fresh coconut falling every other day :-) There are tons of games and also internet and Netflix if you prefer to fly somewhere and watch TV. The upstairs bedrooms are huge both with a bed and sleeping sofa in them. The bathrooms are inside the bedrooms but shared with the common areas. Pretty much everything you need or want you have! Buy your own supplies(food, booze, and paper products) and you will be set for the week!
The small house was cute and clean. A very nice shower and kitchen area. Two private bungalows, There are ham-mics all over the place and the downstairs bedrooms are dark and quite. Though they are shard by a closet door.
Karen is amazing as well

My husband and I had never travelled to the Caribbean and were worried about finding the right place. We were so incredibly blessed to find this little house. We felt like it had been waiting for us. It was everything we could have imagined. The ocean was right there and beautiful! The sunsets, the cabana, the garden paths, the pool and the island were breathtaking and wonderful. The owners have obviously spent a lot of time making this property a secluded paradise. We thank them for being willing to share it.

We were astonishingly lucky to find TROPICAL RUNaWAY open for the week of Christmas. It was EXACTLY what we needed -- seclusion, sun, beautiful water, perfect weather. We were in Hawksbill, which was perfect for two. We ate every day on the porch, watching the waves lap the shore. We were undisturbed by the larger family in the big house, though we became friends at the pool. Curly tailed lizards visited every day, and many birds flitted through the trees -- with a small blue heron visiting us on our final night. Easy access to airport, beautifully tended by the caretakers, and just a few minutes from Barry's Golden Jerk, where we found the Christmas dinner we never knew we needed. The beach is right there, but if you want to swim or snorkel here, make sure to have sturdy foot protection because the urchins are very sharp.
We will be back!

This was our second stay at Tropical Run-a-Way, this time in the (Hawksbill) cottage. It was an absolutely wonderful two weeks. The owners were on site at the main (Loggerhead) house during our stay and made us feel very welcome, like we were family away from home. They were extremely helpful with advice on island matters, assisted us with dive gear issues and even taught us how to properly clean a conch and make fritters! They have added a beautiful pool since our last visit, a very welcome addition for cooling off on sweltering days. A considerable personal effort has been made by the owners to create a little slice of heaven here on earth; it shows in the cleanliness and charm of the grounds, cottage, pool and beach areas. Well done! We have spent a considerable amount of time on the Brac looking at real estate and vacation rentals, and can honestly say we haven't seen anything that tops this property for aesthetics, location and value. You will not be disappointed!

Amazing location....right on the beach, but also use of the pool and sunbed on your door step. Very quiet (just the noise of the waves!) and stunning night skies! Easy walk to the local shop so no need for cars, and super friendly people all around. We stayed as part of a wedding party and it was IDEAL to have everything and one so close to each other. Was very sad to leave this beautiful cottage and secluded beach. Made good use of the beach shoes, snorkels, fins etc. Much appreciated!

We stayed in the bungalow at the end of August to attend a friend's wedding, and let me tell you, it was absolute paradise! The cottage itself is petite but adorable, very well furnished and equipt for all our needs. The kitchen is very well kitted out, and the owners even left a little basket of supplies including sunscreen and bug spray just in case we forgot anything. The pool is conveniently close for those necessary quick cool-off dunks, and the cottage is so close to the beach you can actually lie in the hammock on the front porch and listen to the waves. The view from our porch was like a holiday brochure come to life. All in all, I can't wait to visit again! One tip is to make sure that you have a car to get to local shops, etc. I did walk to the market one day (it took about 20 mins) but it was so hot that I roped in a friend to give me a ride back with my shopping! A small price to pay to really 'get away from it all'!

Beautiful setting, 15 yards from beach, another 5 yards to sea, lovely pool, comfy beds, excellent a/c, all mod cons, plenty of friendly wildlife to see as well. Hire car useful.

Even after our week long honeymoon trip to Cayman Brac's, Tropical Getaway, I still can't help but mentally escape every day to the cabana, soaking in the smells and sounds of the waves crashing on the private beach in front of you. This was truly the BEST honeymoon a couple could ask for. The island itself is an absolutely wonderful, enjoyable place to be. The locals are very friendly & welcoming and pride themselves on being the safest island to visit... and it's true! The island is completely safe and people look out for one another to make sure "no funny business goes on". There is plenty to do on the island if you're an adventurer and plenty to do to relax & enjoy. We went caving every morning - there's over a dozen caves to explore on the island and they are all very different. We went snorkeling every afternoon and found each dive site different and unique in it's own way. Hundreds of tropical fish, rays, turtles, and coral reefs to see! In the afternoons we would nap or relax in the cabana, enjoying the perfect ocean and Little Cayman view. We would take dips in the pool to cool off and catch some rays. At night we would star gaze from the beach, which was absolutely breathtaking. There was a perfect milky way each night. It's also fun to see the planes land at night right over your head. The house is kept impeccably clean - a lot cleaner than I would assume an island house to be and the groundskeeper, Sonya is a wonderful woman who is happy to help and give advice about the island. Our experience was p.e.r.f.e.c.t. and we would recommend this property and island to everyone! The Bracans, the island, the house... we wouldn't have changed a thing about our experience!

After a long cold winter and the usual daily rigors of a busy work life, the Hawksbill House was a welcomed retreat. Karen and Ray were tremendous hosts which further contributed toward our having a perfect vacation. Even though our flight was delayed late into the evening, Ray and Karen graciously met us at the airport to ensure we’d find our way to the house. As though that weren’t generous enough, they even escorted us to a late night convenience store and introduced us to one of the best local meals on the island—Barry’s Jerk Chicken stand, which provided a much appreciated meal hot off the grill after a long day of traveling. Karen also graciously supplied some essentials from their personal kitchen to accommodate our own breakfast on Sunday morning. Ray and Karn truly went above and beyond.
The property and house itself is charming, clean and well-kept. And the opportunity to be the first guests to try out the new pool on the property as it was being completed was an appreciated refresher. Ray and Karen do a phenomenal job of maintaining the property and creating a variety of places to unwind. The beach was immaculate and Ray’s attention to the landscaping makes it one of the most beautiful retreats on the island. He has planted a number of coconut palms, flowering plants, and other species that not only give the property its tropical feel, but also its surreal privacy.
We enjoyed walks on the beach, fires along the shore at night as well as snorkeling and kayaking in front of the property. Unlike the other side of the island, the water is calm and swimmable along their shore. And it was convenient to have snorkel gear and kayaks available for use. The snorkeling in front of the property was impressive as were numerous other spots that were personally recommended by Ray and Karen. Their knowledge of the island and the gorgeously blue waters that surround it added value to this idyllic retreat in ways that few others could so genuinely compete with.
Having traveled to other Caribbean and Pacific islands, we can definitely say we couldn’t have asked for a better location to decompress and get away from it all. Privacy, relaxation, entertainment, and the allure of a true tropical paradise all bundled into one. We sincerely enjoyed this getaway and appreciated the top-notch hospitality of Ray and Karen. So much so, we look forward to a return visit in the hopefully not too distant future.

It is hard to say what was best as they were all six stars: The owners, the property, the location, the activities, the relaxation?
The Owners: Karen and Ray are the best!!! They made us feel so welcome during the selection process and through our stay. We could see how well thought of they are on the island and could only wish that every VRBO owner was as helpful and nice. They truly went out their way to make this feel like our place during our stay.
The Property: WOW! The house was amazing. I travel almost every week and have never slept better. The bed is outstanding (might be the best feature). The views.. spectacular. This place was novocain for the brain. We loved the kitchen with nice appliances, dishes, and pans. Not the cheap stuff you often find at rentals. Harvesting fresh coconuts, seeing lizards and hermit crabs and world class snorkeling out the front door. We logged many hours in the cabana and on the beach totally relaxed. Karen and Ray have spent countless hours making the property a tropical paradise..totally relaxing. They have thought of so many details to make this perfect that I cannot list them all.
The location: I loved that this property was alone at the end of the island. We did not see a single person while sitting on our private beach. We were two minutes by car (you should rent one) from shopping, food, Barry's Jerked Chicken (a must!) everything was so close. Front door snorkeling with sea turtles was awesome! The sunsets and views are world class.
Activities: What do you want to do? It is there! Hermit crab races, caves, swimming, snorkeling? I only wish this property had been around when my kids were young. Perfect for them.
I am gushing with this review, but they deserve it. We are already planning out trip back to stay in December. Not a single problem with the trip, but I am certain that Karen and Ray would have made everything right if there had been. Rent with confidence. We felt so safe on the island.. The people are very friendly..I do not think I can go to a "resort" again after this experience. A much different type of relaxation.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Karen and Ray for sharing your labor of love!

We loved the location and beach at the Hawksbill House. Beautiful sunsets and watching the planes land was great each evening. We even got to see an awesome rainbow one morning. We have stayed at several places at Brac and this is our favorite. We are already looking forward to booking our next vacation at the Hawksbill House.
