About this cottage rental
17 The Lanes, a sympathetically refurbished ex minders cottage, provides character with modern conveniences. The cottage itself offers a comfortable size lounge with log burner (initial basket of logs provided), free WiFi, Freeview TV with built in DVD player, Netflix and a selection of DVD’s, games and books. It has a well fitted kitchen and a pretty, peaceful and secure garden ideal for relaxing with a glass of wine or local beer. The cottage sleeps four with a king size bed in the master bedroom and a twin room. Dog friendly with fabulous walking and cycling from the door step. Maps and walking books are also provided. Operating as a holiday cottage since 2019 we have over 230 excellent reviews. 2 night stays are available by request.
Situated in Bolehill, a conservation area a short walk from Wirksworth centre and close to Matlock, it is superbly situated for exploring the delights of the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District.
Dogs are very welcome but we do ask that they are not allowed on the furniture or beds.
Parking is available at the cottage for two vehicles.
Please note that the cottage is built into a hillside so that the garden is accessed from the first floor across a small footbridge. The door into the garden is at the top of the stairs and there is a quite steep step out of the door and then 4 more steps to the garden. There are drops to retain two sides of the garden from the cottage but these are well fenced with fencing approximately 3'6" high. It is not suitable for wheel chair access.
Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of the Peak District. There is fabulous walking and cycling from the doorstep. This is a perfect location for enjoying all sorts of outdoor activities or just to use as a base to explore the area. Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth are all within very easy reach and Carsington Water is only a couple of miles away.
The high peak trail is on our doorstep along with glorious walking and cycling. There is also secure storage for bikes or other sports equipment in a garden store.
Wirksworth punches well above its small size in terms of its thriving community and many activities. The town’s welcome sign proclaims it the ‘gem of the peak’ and its not wrong.

The house is lovely, very comfortable beds and Sue was a very friendly and helpful host. We stayed for the weekend whilst doing a charity hike nearby and loved exploring the area. Perfect base for our family of 4!

We enjoyed our stay in the Peak District. The host was very prompt to reply with questions. The place had everything we needed and the bathroom was extremely nice. The kitchen was well stocked and our host left us milk in the frig and some delicious apple juice! Thank you!

We stayed at The Lanes as we were attending a family wedding nearby at Haarlem Mill. It totally exceeded expectations. Firstly, and very importantly for me, it was absolutely spotlessly clean. I am extremely sensitive to dust and so typically staying anywhere away, my dust allergy will be set off. Absolutely no issue at The Lanes as everything was beautifully clean. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with really well chosen china and glasses. Thoughtful welcome basket items were really appreciated too. The beds are very comfortable with very nice linen, and plenty of towels. The bathroom is very nice, with a very good shower. All in all, we all enjoyed our stay immensely, and only wished we could stay for longer. I would highly recommend The Lanes to anyone visiting the area, and will definitely be re-booking ourselves for an adventure in the Peak District. Many thanks Sue for a super stay.

Wonderful 3 day stay in a lovely superbly renovated cottage. Everything was provided and it was very comfortable and cozy. The rainfall shower was superb, the bed was comfy but the highlight was coming back after a days walking was the log fire. Perfect location for all the beauty the peak dustrict has to offer. It is a tad hilly around the village but nothing too hard. The host maintained great communication from start to finish and the personal touches were lovely. We would feinitely recommend the Lanes.

Absolutely lovely, so idyllic and cosy. Sue was super helpful and we loved the welcome hamper too thank you so much. The dogs loved their biscuits and enjoyed the beautiful walks this area has to offer. Getting cosy after a long day walking with the fire and a film was just what we needed. Will definitely be returning :)

This is such a gorgeous little cottage, Sue provided very detailed instructions on how to find and use the parking spot etc. which made it so easy. The cottage is thoroughly clean and comfortable, with everything you need and a sweet little garden at the back. The location is perfect for lovely walks and easy for trips into both Matlock and Buxton. Thanks Sue, a very enjoyable stay and we hope to return.

Really enjoyed our stay at 17 The Lanes.
Communication from the owners was spot on including full directions and instructions for how to access the property.
There is ample parking for 2 cars opposite.
Inside the cottage is small but perfectly formed, however the real gem is the little garden reached from the 1st floor. This is beautifully laid out and a real sun trap getting the sun from early morning right through to the evening.
There are a number of walks directly from the cottage and it's worth having an explore of the area just to see the number of wonderful gardens in all the houses nearby.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

Lovely cottage! Great location!
17 The Lanes was just perfect for a holiday. Such an excellent location for walking from the cottage or travelling a short distance (30 mins max) to visit lovely places and different walks. It was very clean, has very comfortable beds and absolutely everything you could possibly wish for. The charming garden was a real haven to eat outside during the fine weather. We give it 5 stars and definitely hope to return.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The location was lovely and quiet, the cottage was clean and had everything you could want for a break away from home. There were many lovely walks close by, we didn’t use the car at all.
Checking in was so easy and the contact leading up to our stay was great.
We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful time away.

Perfect for us
This compact terraced cottage is in a lovely location and is very well equipped, with a small attractive garden to sit out in and comfortable beds. The owner could not have been more helpful. There is parking immediately opposite for 2 cars and delightful walks at hand. A degree of fitness is required, as the name Bolehill suggests.

Wonderful stay at No 17
Just spent a lovely 4 days in this perfect cottage. Spotlessly clean and everything we needed. Lovely quiet spot with great views. Sue is an amazing host. We went to Heights of Abraham, Tramway museum and Chatsworth House. Wish we'd booked longer as so much more we wanted to see. Will definitely book No 17 again.

A perfect cosy bolthole to explore wonderful Matlock
We chose this lovely Bolehill cottage on the basis of the location and the excellent reviews and we were not disappointed! Although it is fairly cosy, it was the perfect size for the four of us (two adults and two children under 12) for a week, as a base to visit the brilliant Matlock area. There was loads to do to keep us all happy - we needed much longer actually, but highlights included a (not too long!) walk on the High Peak Trail, the visit to the Mining Museum and Cromford Mill, and of course a visit to the Heights of Abraham. Wirksworth itself is also great. The cottage is incredibly well equipped so we had everything we needed - even down to the very comfortable beds and excellent shower.
Thank you so much Sue - we will definitely be back!

Excellent location
We had a wonderful stay at Sue's property. She couldn't have been more helpful and informative, and even provided life-saving tea and coffee. (You will need to bring other basics such as cooking oil, salt/pepper, etc.). The beds were very comfortable, the little garden delightful to sit out in. The place was super clean too. We would definitely come again.

This was our second holiday at this cottage and we couldn’t ask for anything better
It was exceptionally clean and very comfortable with everything we needed to make us feel at home.
The garden is a real sun trap and relaxing to sit in after long walks with our dog.
There are plenty of walks that start from the cottage and we enjoyed walking into Wirksworth up to the Star Disc and we also walked up to Black Rocks and along the High Peak Trail into Cromford Mill

We had a fabulous 3 nights at The Lanes, and can highly recommend it to others. Perfect location for exploring both the Peak District itself (Bakewell about 20 mins away) as well as endless other locations - Carsington Water, The High Peak Trail, Tissington Trail, Black Rocks, Wirksworth to name just a few - all on the doorstep!
Sue kept in excellent contact both before and during our stay, and genuinely cared about our visit. The house was spotless and perfect for our needs. Will definitely stay again!

Fantastic
Had an amazing time away especially during this current climate! Sue was a fantastic host making sure to take extra precautions due to Covid. Both me and my partner felt safe to carry on with our holiday regarding Covid because of the actions Sue took. She emailed to let me know about the new restrictions and gave me the choice to reschedule. The area itself was fantastic and so peaceful. Coming from London where even with lockdown was busy constantly this was much needed! Highly recommend

Lovely cottage
Cottage was immaculate beautiful secluded garden. My first holiday just me and my dog. It had everything! Didn’t need to use my car as walks in every direction! Local co op just 10 min walk. Very peaceful and after a busy few months working as a nurse in these stressful Covid times I’m relaxed and happy. Def would recommend
