I have very few positive things to say about this hotel, the only thing I can say is that some (and I say "some" on purpose) of the staff were excellent, notably the receptionist who checked us in and checked us out, other staff were much less impressive and the overall hotel is awful.
There is no way this is a hotel you should pay £180 / night for - we went for the slightly larger 'executive' room and this was still a disgrace - this hotel is way worse than a Premier Inn but is pricing itself like a proper hotel - it's a 2-star hotel at best.
It's basically a 1960s/1970s hotel that has just been repainted and the rooms fitted with items from an end of season sale at a discount furniture store (i.e. the rejects of the rejects) - they have most things you need (although some of the things they say they have on the Booking.com site they don't), but its all done in the cheapest possible way.
To give you the measure of the hotel, they take full payment on arrival - what proper hotel does that, versus taking a 'hold' on your card and they letting you pay on checkout.
Equally, they charge you for parking, on top of the £180 / night - the parking that is outside the hotel reception and under the hotel!
There is no no air conditioning in the room, just heating, so you can only increase the temperature of the room or open a window onto noisy Sheffield, there is no ability to reduce the temperature via the thermostat.
Then, there is no room service - no room service menus, no mention of any ability to obtain food apart from in the 'bar', where because they have a 'happy hour' from 5:30 (buy-one-get-one-free), it is full of people getting drunk and swearing, so you can't take kids there - not sure if the restaurant even opens other than for breakfast, it wasnt open when we wanted food and when we enquired they only mentioned the rowdy bar area.
Breakfast was ok, apart from the gormless waitress standing there looking into space whilst the breakfast items ran out and weren't refilled and the dirty tables were left full of prior customers plates etc. - definitely not worth buying the breakfast separately though, I would skip it unless it is included in the price.

Thank you for making our wedding anniversary special. Your greetings and little treats is very much appreciated. Again, thank you.
3.8
Central for everything we needed, lots of restaurants and shops
The staff could have been more helpful
3.8
Great location, my room was large and comfortable.

Love a Novotel - clean and has all the facilities. Staff at front desk absolutely amazing - sorted an issue out straight away.
think Novotel may need to look into their staff experience and happiness. I was having a late night cigarette outside and about 4 staff members were slagging off the hotel (basically unhappy) and wanted a day were they could be rude and say anything to guests. Maybe don't work in hospitality
3.8
All staff were very friendly and helpful.
Bed was uncomfortable, no USB ports in room, breakfast was very lack lustre and disappointing.
3.8
Clean and comfortable
No water bottle in the room
Breakfast room a bit disorganised

Staff on front desk was good. Excellent customer service actually went above and beyond. Good steam room
Changing room floor was not clean. Rooms were abit dated.

The hotel inside was nice, had a gym and a swimming pool. Pool was small but myself and i had it to ourselves for over an hour which was nice. Excellent location and had parking which was chargeable.
The rooms are dated and could do with a makeover.
3.8
The location was good.
There was nothing exceptional about this hotel, the rooms were standard and the breakfast average so I do not understand why they charge so much, especially as the breakfast was extra.

Location
Room dirty, bar shut, couldn't get a drink at 10:15am on Saturday night. breakfast buffet very sparse for a 4 star hotel.

The staff members are the real gem of the hotel! They are all extremely kind and accommodating. They made our baby girl feel extra special.
The pool and kids play room is the best thing ever especially for families like us with young babies.
The bar/restaurant staff are very attentive to detail. I can’t praise the staff enough.
The food could be better.
The parking fee I think is not reasonable especially for inhouse guest. We stayed 4 nights as we added 1 more night, and had to pay £15 per night.

The pool was lovely and easy to book and use. The room had a nice view of the city and Winter Gardens, and the bed was comfy. Location was superb!
The room was quite dated, with a separate toilet and woodchip on the walls. I was quite shocked at how dated it was for the price!

The restaurant and location of the hotel
No heating, I was given a mini portable heater, The toilet didn't flush in the standard room, someone tried to fix it, I was told I would be moved the next morning, I didnt get moved until midnight the following day. The ordering system doesn't work, Room service took 1h30 mins to deliver the order I placed. Breakfast was very basic, most of the pastries were gone. If you do opt for this hotel, don't book the standard rooms. Very expensive £196/ night for a standard room, no value for money. I personally wouldn't recommend the hotel.

Happy hour!
Overpriced for our dogs. We booked three rooms, one of which would contain two small dogs. We were charged £24 per dog. We were allocated three rooms on arrival. You had no idea which room the dogs would be in so you cannot claim the charge was for extra cleaning afterwards. Felt a little cheated.

Very convenient, clean and functional for short trip and accessing from Sheffield Station.

Comfortable and clean felt luxurious
One of the staff on reception was rude and unhelpful

Location was great for eating out and Ponds Forge Swimming Centre
Rooms felt old and tired, had a separate toilet which felt like a public toilet cubicle. The window was covered in cobwebs. The front end of the hotel was lovely and modern but bedroom felt very old.

Location
Temperature. No working air con
Breakfast was very expensive
No sugar free draft drinks in the bar

Parking. Central location. Comfy bed. Dog friendly hotel. Small but nice swim pool.
Cold bread from the freezer on breakfast. Waited over 5min to be seated but finally no welcome person on breakfast appears. Limited choice for breakfast at 9am but they finish at 10am. No airco available with very hot weather.

Rooms and pool
Poor staff, not very friendly on reception, very amateurish in the bar. I was charged £15 for 2 small wines instead of £9. Had to ask for table to be cleared for us to sit at, Staff just stood behind bar chatting.
3.8
Location was excellent, central to all restaurants and shops and easy access to the motorway. Outside sun terrace ideal for relaxing. Reception area excellent with child friendly and pet friendly areas.
Staff at times were short on the ground, often had to go searching for someone. No information readily available regarding facilities or how to use them ie. Bookings required to use the pool and gym, no information regarding parking facilities and codes required to leave, no details on check out times. Restaurant poor at best, service non existent, food poor and over priced. Had youngster who received food over 20 minutes after everyone else and had to request it 3 times before eventual arrival.
3.8
Good location within walking distance to the city centre and the station. Spacious, clean rooms. Enough to choose for breakfast. Nice friendly staffs at reception and restaurant.
Toilets separate from bathrooms.
Observed that spaces for parking are limited at the hotel. Although we are travelling by trains during this trip otherwise most times we used cars.
3.8
Very comfortable and clean. Swimming pool was a great bonus. Location excellent. Nice terrace area to have a drink.
Only issue is no sink in toilet (separate to bathroom) so washing hands after going on the loo was an issue if someone was in bathroom.
3.8
Location and breakfast, sensational
Our shower tap dripped all through the night. The toilet was sponsored by the holocaust
3.8
Well placed in the city centre, parking was helpful. A nice Hotel.
Nothing to complain about.
