We stay 3 times a year and always look forward to coming back.
I complained about my food was burnt and nobody came and asked if we wanted it changing and we were still charged even though I did not eat it very disappointed in the service this time

The room was lovely and the food in the restaurant was excellent
Room was a little small as thought I'd booked the room with a sofa and four poster bed and large walk in shower

Steeped in history and very busy…great if you want a central hotel ..the breakfast was amazing and the staff were very friendly
Very quirky beautiful building and apparently room 2 has a ghost who tickles your feet

The location was excellent
We had absolutely no sleep. We were in room No.8 which meant we could hear everything from the street below. It was horrendous the noise went on all night. People drunk and shouting and then at 4.45 in the morning the bin men came. They were talking to each other and collecting all the bottles which was exceptionally loud. We had no sleep at all

Staff friendly and helpful when the rain flooded our room. Place lived up to its reputation with strange noises.
Although the staff were helpful and friendly, it was extremely unprofessional and made it impossible to sleep with them outside the room drinking, swearing, and talking until 6am.

Bit disappointed our rooms weren't next to each other as requested, so had to pay upgrade to at least get together on same floor across corridor from each other

The location, only a few steps from York Minster and the city centre, was absolutely fantastic. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern. The breakfast portions were very generous.
The temperature of the shower water was difficult to control and could be scalding hot. The form for ordering breakfast was somewhat confusing if you were ordering for more than one guest. There was some very noisy karaoke amd shouting (not sure if it was from the hotel or somewhere else locally) which continued very late amd kept us awake. Some of the seating in the patio area was too high and uncomfortable.

Nostalgic and very welcoming hotel
There's nothing to dislike about this hotel

Quirky, well appointed suite in the eaves with a wonderful outlook. Lots of stairs rewarded us with a most unusual place to stay.

Food was amazing, staff exceptional and so friendly, fantastic location for the city.
Room was very dark ( dark red) but understand in keeping with the history and feel of the building.

Location is superb. 100% superb. The Guy Fawkes Inn is obviously an historic and very old building so that comes with all the charm and issues you’d expect in modern life. Its old world personified and room reflected that perfectly. Furniture and fittings all added to the ambiance and charm. Bed was large and comfortable. Tea and coffee making is always nice to have. The pub and courtyard downstairs is atmospheric. Breakfast choice was good. Staff were friendly and helpful.
I don’t think I’m being picky here to say that our room (10) quite soon if not sooner needs a bathroom update and refurb. I thought it looked quite tatty. Floor tiles pretty dreadful and shower not either smart or that efficient. The obviously very old sash window in serious need of a renovation. I understand that the bathroom needs to remain in line with the decor and age of the building but there’s smart old in design and style and old and tatty. This was the latter. My wife said the mirror in the bedroom was too far to be useful from the provided hair dryer and electrical outlet. I would also think that a visit in very warm weather that the bedroom wood be stifling. I understand that air con isn’t an easy option in a building of this age. Just something to consider if you are visiting during those hot months.

Our 2nd Visit and as good as the 1st
Could have used a pen in the room to fill out the breakfast request form we were given 😁

Location is great and staff friendly
Never a 4 star hotel, stayed in room 5. Very tired looking with bare wires, bed was very uncomfortable and very small. Shower dangerously slippy.

We like the location of the hotel and the atmosphere.
The location of the room. It was far to noisy till very late. The room was dark due to having to shut the curtains to prevent people from looking in.
When one of us had a shower, there was no more hot water for the other person.
The breakfast was dreadful with no vegetarian sausages...

location, ambience of the public rooms, pleasant staff.
The room was adequate size but tatty in places.. damp staining on the ceiling, worn furniture. when checking in I asked whether the room was quiet, I was told that all rooms were quiet, this was definitely not the case. room 1 and 9 are directly above the outdoor area, the level of noise was unacceptable up to 11pm. between 11 and 11.30 several staff members were going about their normal business but unfortunately the sound travels straight up the stairs to room 1. this was a work trip and I was in bed by 10.30, not ideal.

Ideal location just across from the cathedral. The staff were really friendly. The hotel was atmospheric and very clean.
Loved everything.

The room was very cosy with a gothic vibe - the bed was very comfy and the decoration was lovely. Perfect location for exploring the city and the food was delicious - we'd definitely stay here again.
The room was smaller than expected (the room type we booked was the only one with no photos on the hotel website) but this was just an initial first impression. The 'view into the courtyard' advertised was just a wall mural, everything else was covered up. On the morning we checked out we were hoping to ask to leave our bags until our train home but there were no staff present to ask.
