About this cabin rental
Built in 1901 by some of the earliest settlers in the Lake Wenatchee valley, this unique log home has been lovingly owned and maintained by their direct descendants ever since. All the hand built charm and rustic beauty are intact, but now coupled with amenities such as electricity (1920s) indoor plumbing (1940s) and high speed, fiber optic, wi-fi (2008). Most recently, we've remodeled the kitchen/dining area to a more open floor plan, and the downstairs bath just because… well, it really needed it. And we added a hot tub. Aahhhhhh.
The homestead occupies 15 private, peaceful acres and is a destination of its own, or a fabulous base camp for the area's many outdoor activities. It's only 25 minutes to either Steven's Pass or Leavenworth. Without even getting back in the car, you can cross country ski, snow shoe, sled, hike, bike, swim and mountain climb. There are chickens laying eggs for your breakfast, and our horses grazing in the pastures.
The house is furnished with an eclectic mix of comfy antiques, many of which have been here for generations. It easily acommodates your family (2 king beds, 2 doubles, and a full finished attic with 2 twins.) When you settle in for that second cup of tea, you know you're nestled in walls constructed of virgin timber and built by hand without electricity or fossil fuel. The cozy feel of the house takes you away from the cares of modern life, and back to a simpler time.
The Brown Family Homestead is the perfect place to get away from it all and reconnect with yourself and your loved ones. Make it your second home, but without the headaches of ownership.

This house is very 'rustic'. The staircase has very narrow treads and is extremely steep...would not pass building code today. No paper towels or dish towels in the kitchen. The king size bed mattresses were passable but the two rooms with double mattresses were very uncomfortable. One night the circuit breaker tripped and we woke up freezing. The host was responsive. Best thing was large number of beds to accommodate children which we did not have. My dog loved the squirrels outside the window...highlight! Too expensive for the quality IMHO.

Perfect family meet up and cozy winter retreat for the holiday. Lots of sleeping space and perfect holiday tree waiting for us to put our gifts around and plenty of space for playing in the snow

We had a great stay at the Brown Family Homestead, but there were a few things that could have been better. The furniture is very worn and the home can get very warm in the peak summer months. The window air unit pretty much ran nonstop during our July stay. The staircase is very steep, typical of old farmhouses. That might be a problem for older adults or very young children. That was the bad. On the plus side was the peacefulness of the location. Wildflowers covered the meadow next to the house, the kids loved plucking eggs from the chicken coop and feeding carrots to the horses. We went through 15 lbs. of them during our weeks stay. There is abundant wildlife in the area. We spotted wild turkeys on the property and spotted black bear less than a mile away on two occasions. The location was a mixed bag for us. It was close to Wenatchee State Park, reasonably close to Leavenworth, but a bit farther away from Wenatchee where our family members live.
We felt the good far outweighed the bad during our stay and would recommend the homestead to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in the country. If you’d like to give your family a taste of country life, this is the place.

Our three-generation family (and dogs) enjoyed our stay at the Brown Family Homestead so much. The hosts were extremely friendly and very communicative. A small issue was resolved very quickly. The house itself is very old with a simple, rustic charm. There are 15 acres to explore and gorgeous views of the mountains and forests. The kids (ages 3, 6, and 9) loved feeding carrots to the horses, watching the barn swallows swoop, and playing soccer outside. We appreciated the full kitchen and large dining room table. The setting is quiet, peaceful, and very restorative.

Great rustic farmhouse
We came with another family to play in the snow. There were a few hiccups at the start of our stay but they were quickly addressed. The kitchen is the best stocked I've ever seen in a vacation rental - food processor, stand mixer, blender, tea kettle, a whole drawer of spices, cooking oils, etc. They provide q-tips and cotton balls but bring your own soap and shampoo for the shower or the fabulous clawfoot tub. It was perfect for our group and we would be happy to return.

New Years snow Holiday
We had a very special time staying at this cabin. There was ALOT of snow and it was a very cold but we had a great time with our family. The cabin is exactly as advertised and is very homey. It was fun to stay in a home with so much history. The cabin is clean and comes with all the kitchen cooking supplies you need. The beds are comfortable and the heaters work very well upstairs. The fireplace heater had to work very hard to keep up with the temperature which it did, the house stayed about 68-70 but because the house is old it’s drafty. Which I’m sure we only noticed so much because it never got above 23 degrees while we were there. We enjoyed our holiday very much and would love to come back.

Amazing House
This place is amazing! The house is awesome and we really felt like we were living at a homestead. The 3 feet of snow outside just made it that much better. Due to covid only three of us plus a baby were able to make it so we had plenty of space but even if all of our party had made it there would have been more than enough room. Lake Wenatchee is gorgeous, and the short drive to Leavenworth is 100% worth it. We are already trying to plan our next visit!

Rustic Gem, Absolutley Gorgeous Property
My found WA family and I came together for my 30th bday celebration in Leavenworth - this property took my breath away! Aesthetics galore, perfectly manicured yard and clean. We had a Lord of the Rings themed celebration and the backdrop (for photos, crafting, and merriment) was absolutely perfect. My kids loved the white horses and fresh eggs from the chickens in the morning. Soaking in the hot tub after a long day of adventuring around Leavenworth was icing on the cake. We all had the best time ever and I highly recommend this space to anyone looking to wow your group and have a great time! Thank you to the owners!!!

Beautiful setting, quaint cabin and great location
We loved our visit here! It was a wonderful getaway and great place to relax. The grounds and the setting are gorgeous. The cabin is old fashioned, but comfortable and spacious. There was plenty of room for two families of four. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed the hot tub. We enjoyed chatting with the owners, collecting eggs and feeding the horses. Our puppy loved having plenty of space to run around. The farmstead is close to Lake Wenatchee State Park which has a great beach for swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. We will be coming back!

Great property, quiet location. Awesome views!!
House was old, rustic and very roomy. Location was perfect, fantastic views, beautiful property. The whole family enjoyed the stay, very relaxing. The grill could be upgraded as well as the pots and pans but they are usable. We had a few dirty dishes but nothing rewashing them didn’t solve, there was a dog on property that kept coming over when our dogs were out, we had to separate a few times. It would have been nice if the dog was kept separated from the property. All in all a very good stay and we would visit again for sure.

Great location, charming cabin, had everything we needed
We were staying for a ski weekend. Thus locations was quiet, private and had everything we needed. Kitchen had all the utensils we needed, plenty of room for our dog to run some energy off, and eat check in process. Thanks for letting us stay!

The cabin is beautiful, as is the location. We had a wonderful time reading around the fireplace, soaking in the hot tub, exploring the shore of Lake Wanatchee and scrambling up Dirty Face Peak. It was a perfect couples retreat and a needed chance to unplug from work and the pandemic. The listing does not make it clear that a young family is also living on the property as care takers. They are delightful and helpful -- thanks for the eggs and the hiking advice! But it was not as remote and private as perhaps the listing suggests. Also, it is an old log cabin, and particularly the upstairs bedrooms are not exactly up to modern hotel standards -- the carpeting is worn, the wallpaper is torn and rippling, the ceilings are low. We slept very soundly and well and enjoyed our time there immensely, but it might not be the right choice if your vacation standard is a Hilton.

Fun Experience!
We enjoyed this cozy homestead on our long weekend away from Seattle to find some snow. We had for kiddos ages 1-5 and they loved the open space, feeding the horses and collecting chicken eggs. The house was close enough for us to enjoy a day at the Nordic center and the hot tub was glorious! The house was perfectly comfortable but definitely kept the old homestead feel. We had a nice stay!

Great "off the beaten path" get away
We were looking for a quiet, secluded, yet easily accessible cabin for a short family getaway. A sledding hill for our two children was a must. This property checked these boxes and more. Very friendly and responsive hosts...had the lights and heat on for us when we arrived :) The kids enjoyed visiting with homestead's chickens (let us keep the eggs for the duration of our visit too) and horses in addition to the sledding just behind the house. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub. Great spot that we would recommend to others without hesitation

Beautiful secluded mountain house
We had a great time sledding right across from the house. The house is old but certainly comfortable and very snug even as we got tons of snow. Plenty of cooking utensils and space to spread out.

Fantastic Stay
What a beautiful place to spend the Christmas weekend!! Everything on the farm exceeded our expectations. Great kitchen for cooking, loved the big family dining table, cozy rooms for gathering, super comfy beds. We loved getting to know the horses and relaxing in the hot tub in the evening. We would recommend this place to any family wanting an enjoyable country mountain experience. And one last thank you to our hosts for the holiday decor, Christmas tree, and lights!!

Lovely, quiet farm experience
Found this place on sort of a whim on last minute (ish) trip to Leavenworth. SO glad we found it! We were very grateful to stay in this idyllic gem, out of the hustle and bustle of overly crowded Leavenworth (at least people were wearing masks!). We enjoyed the peacefulness of the farm, watching the chickens (and getting to collect and eat their fresh eggs!), feeding the horses. The kids couldn't get enough of it! Sad that we didn't manage to avail ourselves of the hot tub. Love the rustic charm of the old farmhouse (although it comes with some requisite cobwebs in hard to reach corners ;-) ). Would love to come back. We were lucky that it was available as people are often booking it for their weddings (and you can see why! Would be a charming place for a wedding). Thanks, Karen!!

Vintage turn of century farm which is also a delightful wedding venue so you are very lucky if you get the place to yourselves!! Well furnished. Rooms are clean and charming with comfortable beds. Kitchen well furnished. Hot tub was heavenly and very well maintained. The horses and chickens were a delight to our grandson. We had such a great time. Thank you Karen and Mike!!!

Charming Farmhouse Winter Escape
We spent a long weekend in December and were treated to a snowstorm greeting. The mudroom entry was so helpful for our wet gear. The house easily sleeps 8 and has 2 full baths. As it is an old house, it isn’t terribly insulated and you can hear any movement in the middle of the night. If you have heavy snorers in your party, beware! The kitchen is fairly well appointed with lots of pots and pans and useful appliances. Though we had a full house, I never felt like we were crowded and the space was divided up enough you could escape to read a book or watch a movie (DVD only, no TV). The hot tub was covered and very private and nice to enjoy while it snowed. It was decorated with holiday lights and decor, including a small tree which made it very cozy and warm. The only thing that was a bit odd was to have staff walking around the house running extension cords and whatever else while we were staying, but they made quick work of it and didn’t bother us much. It just interfered with our privacy somewhat. Overall, our stay was very relaxing and perfect for decompression from the pace of city life. Recommend!

Lovely stay
Great, private set up on a beautiful property. House can accommodate a large group if needed. We had a lovely relaxing time while we stayed there. Just a heads up for future renters, it's an old house that can be a bit cold in winter so bring some cozy clothes to wear around the house. The owners had a ton of heaters set around the house, and had even turned them on before we got there (which we really appreciated), but it was still a bit colder than we were used to. Wasn't a problem for us though. Also the kitchen was great for making our meals and doing some baking! Well stocked and nice appliances.

Lovely winter getaway
Grandparents , our kids, 3 yr and 5yr grandchildren loved this place with beautiful snow to play in and build a fort. House was very comfortably maintained with all you’d need. Kids found plenty of nooks for hideouts. We cooked brownies and all our dinners in big farm kitchen. After a day of snow play, the hot tub was wonderful. I can’t say enough good. We’ll definitely be back

Amazing family getaway
Our family with 3 teenagers had an amazing time and I am thankful you share your family homestead! We enjoyed chess, cards, baking, cooking, hiking to the tree house, hot tub, the chickens, eggs, wildlife sounds at night ... and snow! Such a great getaway for the holiday start. We will be back!

Beautiful!
We stayed here for an extended weekend with family. There was snow on the ground which made the property look just beautiful. We loved having the fresh eggs from the chicken coop in the morning for breakfast. The hot tub was perfect each evening after spending the day in town. Would definitely come back!

Dream Wedding
We had the best wedding experience getting married at Brown Family Homestead. They stayed in contact with us the entire year leading up to our wedding, helping us plan, stay organized, and answering any little questions that came up. The weekend of the wedding went so smoothly, and so much of it was owed to Karen and Hannah’s coordinating. Having them be the day of corrdinator was such a huge help in relieving my stress as the bride. Karen was constantly promoting us for what was to come next and kept everything running smoothly and on time. All of our guest kept raving about how beautiful the venue was. It was picture perfect to be nestled in between the mountains. Our first look photos by the lake also turned our gorgeous. The horses and chickens made it so fun for children at our wedding. We loved being able to have our gusts enjoy not only the dance floor, but the bonfire, and amazing landscape. The grooms room and tree house were also such an extra fun touch! We couldn’t have hoped for a better day. Thank you so much Hannah and Karen!!

This place is absolutely amazing!
We just got married here less than a week ago and it was so beautiful and amazing! The rental house was really cute and had everything we needed during the stay! The stairs were a little steep, but there weren’t too many so it was fine! The treehouse is a super great place for newlyweds! It was really nice to have a small area away from everyone else. The treehouse is a little hard to get to in the dark without flashlights and does not have a bathroom in it. We had an amazing time here and Karen and Hannah are two of the sweetest people we have ever met! Highly recommend!
