The staff was really friendly and helpful and could put your bags away when you want to explore more of the city.
It was pretty costly for what you get the water pressure was not consistent neither was the temperature. The floor had water damage and was creaking, curtains and window was damaged—you couldn’t close the window. The walls were thin, you could hear the people in the next room.

The location is the only good thing about this hotel
Poor hygiene, cleanliness and facilities in our room, rubbish under the bed, still there when we left. Stale smell of cigarette smoke in our room. Cigarette ash in the balcony door threshold, balcony was filthy with weeds growing. The guttering you look down onto was filthy, full of rubbish, cigarette butts & a condom - disgusting. Door to the bathroom visibly filthy from dirty hands. We did not feel comfortable sleeping there as it was horrible & dirty. The runner on the bed had a reddish-brown mark on it, not sure if it was blood or faeces. Did not approach the staff as felt intimidated - male staff sat at the reception desk smoking did not invite a complaint about the room. Communal lounge and toilet filthy, chairs ripped, toilet stank of urine and dirty sanitary bin.I contacted Booking.com several times via phone and email on our return, they are not interested, once you've paid your money that's it. They should take some responsibility as they happily advertise this hotel.

The woman in the reception was very lovely and warm hearted. That's why it is a bit heart breaking to write a review this bad. The location is kind of nice although in future I will stay a bit out of the city center because there you can get much more value for your money. I was just staying here because my the hotel I usually stay in Amsterdam was booked full for those days.
As someone else wrote in the reviews, an unforgettable smell. A mix of mold and smells of previous visitors and just bad air, and I was coughing for couple of days and my lungs hurt after leaving the place. I only stayed there for one night (although I paid for two), and left as early in the morning as I could.

Heel onverzorgd
Er zaten bedwantsen in de kamer

The location was great in theory
It's a hostel, not a hotel. The room(s) look nothing like the images on the bookings page!
Our first room had a broken door and we had to argue to change rooms. And it was more like a single room - it was so small!
When we challenged the hotel on the issue we were advised we were due to have a room with no view and they'd upgraded us to this extra special room (a room with a broken door / could only just fit a large single/ 3 quarter double bed in it) so we should be happy. After lots of debating and asking for a refund and being told there were no other rooms available (without exaggeration, easily 40 minutes) we were miraculously shown a second room (that we knew was available for the night still through booking.com), but I'm the process the receptionist wanted to prove the images of the hotel were somewhat accurate and insisted on showing me other people's rooms as we walked around the hotel to view this alternative room option. -I repeatedly asked not to and refused to enter but was insistently shown occupied rooms around the establishment whilst being led to an alternative room.
The second room had warped flooring, was generally dirty, and to add to the joy, had a balcony door that wouldn't shut with joined balcony's on either side.
Unfortunately it was late in the day so we had no other option but to take the room as no other hotels nearby could offer a room that was affordable considering it was a same night booking. We were left accepting the room, and being unable to leave our bags at the hotel. Considering we booked in advance, we picked the hotel for its location but could have picked a mainstream hotel chain for a similar price, 10 minutes walk from the location. It became a bed for the night sleeping on top of the bed and a very early dash for coffee...

We flew from Sydney to Amsterdam and arrived at the hotel around 8.30am. We asked to have a room earlier than 3pm check in and the staff let us have one by 1pm. Very tired from flight and awake 29hours.
I had asked for a quiet room with twin beds. The room faced the main road so lots of noise from trams, traffic and people.
Double bed only available. Room on the basic side with tea/coffee facilities in shared area.

Stephanie was very helpful.
The bed was infested with bedbugs.

the location and the staff are okay.
don’t have lift and a lot of stairs (many stairs), reception is in different place the rooms, so you need to go up and go down for the stairs…
the tv and hair dryer doesn’t works…
don’t have fan or A/C in the room and was so hot (32 degrees), the window wasn’t enough to be fresh and the street is so noise…
very expensive place to be in a bad place! better spend same value or more but for a better place!

got what you pay for, great location, friendly staff
steep staircase, fine but maybe warning needed on site

location is amazing for the price you pay
You can hear everything, the walls don’t do much. but luckily everyone was pretty quiet.

The hotel is in a good location, especially if you're planning to go to the Anne Frank House. There are buses and trams that run right to the hotel so it's easy to get to from the central station. The staff at check-in were lovely but the check-in process was quite annoying as you have to go up a really steep staircase in the hotel next-door, then go back down to the other hotel, then go up loads of steep stairs in that one too. I had to go up/down 75 steep narrow steps every time I want to go to my room/leave the hotel. Yes, there is a warning about the steps when you book, but I didn't think it would be that bad.
I have been told that Amsterdam accommodation is known for being very expensive for what you get, and that's exactly what this hotel was. I cannot compare it to other hotels in Amsterdam, but I am told by others it's pretty standard and to have low expectations when it comes to hotels. Primarily there is a serious lack of space in the rooms. Now, I was in a single room, but it had only a single bed, a bedside table with a lamp that didn't work, and then my little en suite. There was a small TV but no tea/coffee/kettle facilities. I barely had enough space to put my tiny suitcase on the floor. For the money I paid, I could've had a double room in a hotel in the UK with triple the amount of space and double the number of nights. Very overpriced, but I am told that is Amsterdam in general. Also, the stairs were ridiculous. I know I would've been better off in a hostel but I don't see why single travellers should be penalised in this way.

It was absolutely disgusting. Nothing like the pictures. Had to end up booking a different hotel when I got there. Spent an extra 700€ on another hotel. Asked for a refund was told no! It was filthy!!!

35 narrow steps up a narrow stairway. Very low water pressure and tepid water in shower. Noisy well after quiet time inside.

not worth money

location ,
stairs are very Steep Stairs , very dangerous. I won’t suggest for family . Since I was doing solo trip I took this hotel .
2.7
just the location it is very close to central
The room was quite dirty, especially on the bed linen, there were hairs in the bed. I had to sleep with my own tshirt on my pillow. the sockets of the room are dusty, the furnishings are old. Since we couldn't find a different hotel, we had to stay for 4 days. I never recommend it.

Location was excellent
Great stay fantastic for getting about Amsterdam as was 5 min walk in any direction to everything we were interested in
Stairs not a big fan off and extremely steep
A bit noisy from traffic ect could do with thicker glass to tone it down

great location
not very clean
have to use a different hotels entrance

Excellent location and value for money. Friendly and available staff who were happy to respond to any queries or requests. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day. Easy check in and check out with the option to store bags.
Some of the rooms and decor were in need of an update however given the price and cleanliness of the rooms this was not a problem at all; overall we were very happy with the rooms and services provided.

The hotel is a great location, and I had a stunning view from my room. The accommodations a very basic, but get the job done. Staff was kind and helpful!
My room had some quirks to be sure. The shower had no curtain or door, so inevitably water would get out of the tub. You also had to keep the door closed or risk the fire alarm going off. My bed was in a loft, which was fun - but it would have been better if the stairs were carpeted and there was an outlet available at bedside level instead of overhead.
2.7
great staff and excellent location, the basic single room was small (really only 1personsbed) but had a nice balcony!
Given the very reasonable price this rooms was anyway a bargain, seeing the current prices in Amsterdam
no elevator, and reception is in another building on first floor, so many stairs to take ;-)

Location is great - people watchers dream
Staff are nice and friendly
check in and check out was simple
great balcony
light in bathroom was very dim
pillows weren’t good
room door did not lock.
Used to frequent here pre covid as it was fine and cheap for a few nights sleep but seems things have changed.

Great Location, nice coffee shop and bakery next door to hostel.
Staff were friendly. Not had a deep clean in years.
Heating on full when not needed and you cannot turn it down.
Poor cleanliness, leaking bathroom ceiling, dirty balcony.
We didn't spend much time in the room put it that way!
Love Amsterdam i just couldn't stay here again.
Should have read the reviews!
Smoking inside next to our room,
The stairs were death and an accident waiting to happen. No help with bag's, luckily i had my partner..

Location
It's doable for a night but overall dirty and the stairs are awful
2.7
Location was great, located just behind the Palace.
The room was filthy, balcony was filthy with cigarette butt's everywhere.
The walls were dirty, bathroom tiles not clean, had hair and god knows what else on there. Hotel in desperate need of renovation, or even just a link of paint would have helped.
2.7
The bed was comfortable. If all you need is a bed this is a good stay near to city center. For a weekend this is perfectly fine!
We were staying on the fifth floor. It's a whole workout getting upstairs. 5 floors with very small thin stairs to climb. Also the shower wasn't really a shower. Too close to the toilet, not a great drainage system.

location
it was dirty
