Enjoyable with a few hic ups

Staff very warm and welcoming. Decor very nice. Food for evening meals and breakfast delicious. Bonus to having separate seating area overlooking Oban Bay, as we had booked a suite.

Room smaller and darker than expected, not as shown on photos online when we booked the suite. Public areas, ie corridors and restaurant really cold, other diners saying the same. Short staffed in kitchen one evening so although only 8 diners in restaurant, had to wait almost an hour between starter and main.

I would stay again but eat out. Breakfast on the other hand was great

Location was wonderful and staff extremely friendly

Wife ordered steak and ask to have it extremely well done. It came as medium. Sent it back to have it cooked over well done and came back still medium. I ate it instead and gave my meal to my wife. A shame as everything else is wonderful

Grand old hotel on the waterfront in Oban

Fantastic location, water views, great food and lovely staff.

Our overall impression is that this hotel was grand in its heyday however, has now become a little tired. It is still quite good however. Our room had a jug that did not work, no instructions on how to workthr in room heating, and no instructions on how to work the showers. This is quite frustrating for travellers from overseas as we had not encountered this type before in our last 5 weeks over here. We also had a Queen bed with what seemed like double bed linen so the fit felt a bit small. A little pricey for the facilities provided.

Good location for sleeping, close to town

The room and on-suite were comfortable and size wise, ideal for a short break.

The overall impression of the hotel is that its tired, seating in the eating area was stained. However, major issue was the breakfast, it seems that a coach party had just been in, so hot food had been stacked into the steamers, most was not eaten so eggs were rubbery in look and taste, should we stay here again then we would not take the breakfast option as plenty of eateries available at a short walk into town.

Hotel clean and staff friendly. Food was very basic for the money

Value for money. I paid £230 for one night expected the price to cover breakfast but had to pay when we arrived. Disappointed swimming wasn't heated.

Comfortable stopover on drive from Skye to Glasgow.

Handsome Victorian architecture. Very nice location on the Esplanade next to the Cathedral. East walk to the ferry and restaurants in one direction, easy walk to castle along the water in the other direction. Harbor views from the public rooms, comfortable seating areas, good breakfast, charming and helpful receptionist. Quiet room, immediate hot water in bathroom. Good reading light next to bed.

Small room, decor a bit fussy (ornate brocade window dressing did not match tartan carpet and blocked light.)

Terrible value

The view.

Everything else....the room for the money was terrible.Too small, the TV was on the dresser facing the opposite direction! The bed was tiny...supposed to be a large double but was a very small double that was like rock. At 300 quid a night it was diabolical.

Great location in old hotel.

Great location right on the promenade. The bar had comfy chairs and a great view.

The hotel is a bit dated and in need of a complete remodel. The room was very small, the beds were OK.

A pleasant one night stay!

Location and views were excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Choice of food was satisfactory.

Parking was inadequate. Decor tired and dated. Staff, although pleasant and very helpful, were under pressure in the restaurant due to inadequate staffing and this led to guests having to wait a long time for their meals to be served.

Okay stay but could be improved through some modernisation.

Location was good with lovely views. Reception staff were friendly.

Dated interior, and also didn’t have a gym in r even a small fitness suite. The Single beds were uncomfortable and on the short side. Didn’t get a good sleep unfortunately.

Awful - unhelpful staff and overcharged

We arrived at the hotel with food poisoning- not the fault of the hotel I vomited in the Lobby and when I emerged from the Ladies I was told by horrified staff that my son was vomiting outside No help was offered by staff We staggered to our rooms and stayed there - for hours being sick We were too weak to get our bags out of the car I made it downstairs the next day and asked if we could have a packed breakfast in our room They do this as I could see packages The receptionist was horrified and said we had to book that ahead I told her that we were sick - and they had seen this We had prepaid breakfast and there was no way we could remove this from our bill She told us to grab some toast from the breakfast Buffett.. I told the receptionist we couldn’t manage to get our bags out of the car and all I got was a creepy smile. Oh no we don’t do room service .. I am 65 years old so I’m no spring chicken I am a retired GP and absolutely horrified at the lack of basic kindness And then the shower rail - hanging by a thread - fell off I see that we have been charged another AUD $59 - £30 why? We prepaid breakfast - not that we got any value for it I expect to be contacted about this on [email protected] Otherwise I will escalate my complaint

Location , close to everything, our room was nice with a great view staff were helpful and friendly

La chambre donnant sur un parking avec beaucoup de courant d’air. Une alarme de voiture qui nous réveille en pleine nuit. Pas de service de chambre et de nettoyage dans la journée. La salle de petit déjeuner est face à la mer mais cela sent extrêmement mauvais : une odeur de friture est persistante dans l’hôtel et c’est désagréable. Le petit déjeuner est très basique même pas de café machine juste un Thermos …

Very good location for OBAN - great value for money.

The rooms are very clean and well looked after. For the money you cannot go wrong and trhe location is perfect. Breakfast was buffet style but extrmely good. The staff were really nice and helpful.

The bed was slightly un-confortable but did the job. The decor was intersting but fun and very non western. Cannot really fault anything else really. In fact this is just petty so ignore me.

Gediegenes Hotel aus dem Golden Age of the grand seaside hotels

Ein großes, fast schon pompöses Hotel aus dem Golden Age of the grand seaside hotels. Grundsätzlich gepflegt, aber doch reichlich Patina. Parken ist gratis und auf dem Parkplatz hinter dem Hotel möglich, sofern noch ein Plätzchen frei ist. Der Ausblick aus unserem "Turmzimmer" war absolut legendär - schöner kann es eigentlich nicht sein.

Das Restaurant war eher nicht so unser Fall - zu steif und zu förmlich bei einer nicht sonderlich ansprechenden und hochpreisigen Karte. Dass die Putzfrau den Staubsauger, Putzwagen und volle Wäschsäcke 2 Tage im Fluchtweg am Gang stehen lässt, sollte eigentlich auch nicht passieren - wirkt schlampig und ist gefährlich.

Disappointed.

The staff were welcoming. In particular, Nandha was very helpful and polite. He seemed to be the only staff in the bar and restaurant.

The bathroom was outdated. The towels smelt really badly, like stale cigarettes (?) and we had to ask a couple of times to have them changed. Kettle didn't work, and the TV was faulty. The room seemed cramped, and we had to move the table and chairs to get into the wardrobe.

Thank you for a enjoyable weekend with friendly staff and lovely food ,

Staff at hotel friendly and very attentive, breakfast was served on hot plates as was the food , freshly cooked, dinner was very tasty and plenty of choice food was lovely and hot , served both nights with friendly staff , the hotel is only a short walk into town, plenty parking at front and to rear of hotel

Only thing was the lift not working as I have a problem with my knee , this was no fault of hotel and can happen anytime

Looks nice, slightly worn at the edges.

I only stayed for one night with work and this hotel suited my needs perfectly. Its old and some of the fixtures (thinking shower) could perhaps do with some TLC but its in character with its surroundings and although not cheap, fits well with area.

The shower wasn't particularly forthcoming and had you dancing between hot and cold water!

Pleasant stay, just needed some more sleep.

The room size was exceptional, the sea view was lovely, the bed super comfortable.

A very noisy person in the room above from 4:30am in the morning, thumping/walking ?exercising in the room. No fan in the shower/toilet room; a sealed locked window.

The location of the Hotel was amazing , there was ample parking which is a real plus as Oban is a busy town . we had a small issue with one of the rooms and the team went to great lengths to make amends and to ensure we were happy .... these people don't say they care about they actually show you they do in their service and actions ..Thank you all for your care and effort in making our stay more comfortable ...

I have no reason to look for bad things as these people care and did everything to make sure we were happy customers ... who can ask for more

Failed to meet expectations. Hx

I am disabled and had requested a room close to exits and preferably on ground floor on booking form. Upgraded room was on 2nd floor, the lift was miles from reception and room was a good distance from lift.
