It’s very serene and tranquil as it is hidden in the middle of the hill. Just perfect for some urban escapee like us.
The condition of the facility is very well maintained and the staffs’ quality of service and attentiveness is just marvellous. The omakase dinner and even their daily Japanese style breakfast had never fail to surprise us on the level of detail and how elaborate they could be.
Nothing really that was displeasing. Was only hoping to have a lake view somehow but this location is more on the mountain side of view which is equally fantastic

Lovely room with view of Mt Fuji
Meals were delicious and beautifully presented
Private onsen was lovely
Access is tricky.
Taxi took 1hr to arrive for a short drive from Gora station and it wasn’t practical to walk in dark with luggage in forest roads! Staff at Zen could not assist when called.
Some aspects of property need updating ie walls painted as lots of chipped paintwork in corridors.

The property is surrounded by beautiful mountains, with a great view of Mt. Fuji if weather permits. The staff are so welcoming, and the rooms were very clean with good amenities. The dinner and breakfast were delicious with lots of unique dishes.

We had an amazing break at Hakone Zen. The main attraction is the private onsen in the room which was fantastic. Just the ease of being to dip in and out when felt like it made the stay really special.

We loved the view of Mt Fuji from the room and the outdoor onsen was wonderful, especially during the day with the forest above you. We loved the Kaiseki meals and the staff were very attentive, giving us a welcome drink, help getting taxis and calling for reservations and taking care of us at our meals. They definitely made sure we had enough to eat! There was a hairdryer and water/drinks in the fridge. And we also appreciated the shuttle to the bus stop. There are bus stops close by (ten min walk or so) and the Hakone Ropeway and the port station is fairly close too. Other than walking, taxi was the easiest way around for us because the main town and train stations are not close. However, we wanted an experience away from town for the end of our trip and loved that this Ryokan was more rural.
The property is a little bit dingy and old fashioned (and not in a traditional Japanese way) needing paint and so on but maybe that’s normal for this area. The room was very clean but there were some stains and it just seemed cluttered. While we were amazed by the decadent treatment we received, just make sure you’re cool with having your meals at a designated time each day and prepare to spend time eating. These are not quick meals and they take pride in serving you. Next time we might search for a place with Kaiseki as an option but that also has a restaurant so we could do Kaiseki a couple times instead of twice a day. Although it was nice to not have to think about food at all!

Perfect getaway from the city hustle and bustle. We were lucky to be able to see Mt Fuji in our room and enjoy the private onsen bath.
The service and hospitality was excellent, each meal was like a feast and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The shuttle bus service provided made going to and from attractions easier considering the location.

Amazing location, very quiet, great comfy beds and meals served in our own nook, all explained by helpful staff, multi course dinner and breakfast with local specialties, and private onsen tub, unmissable
A little out of the way

Only 9 rooms total. Great onsen on terrace. Staff extremely hospitable.
Location is a bit remote

Where do I begin?
The hotel itself is amazing: the views, the quality of the room, the facilities offered and the location are all amazing. It is the staff that truly make the experience, however, as they were able to (and very willing to) cater to all of our needs and questions. Binod-san in particular spent the most time with us and was incredibly attentive, kind and professional throughout.
The private hot spring bath on the balcony was amazing and rejuvenating. I also booked a shiatsu massage on short notice and really needed it (Toyoda-san was amazing!)
I could go on forever but if we can afford it, we will certainly be back - and for longer!

An amazing place to stay. The hot spring was so relaxing and I soaked in it for sooo long. We were able to get some great views of Mt. Fuji and the service was exceptional. Very attentive and friendly.
It was a bit of a hike to get to the property.

Private onsen is great, good quality amenities and comfortable bed.
Compared to other onsen hotels, food is below expectations. Location is inconvenience.
4.7
Property is very nice, room is large and spacious. Bathing in the onsen with a Mt Fuji view was absolutely incredible. Very special kaiseki meal for dinner, completely worth the stay.
No major negative points. Part of the staff was new and still trying to figure out their job. Location is a bit far from the main points in Hakone, so you'll need a taxi or to take a bus to the closest stop and request their shuttle.

Loved the private bath, beautiful room and location. Very nice service, wonderful staff.
Dinner was quite bad, the worst food we have had in Japan so far. Every single protein was significantly overcooked, the sashimi was the most gross raw fish I've ever had. It was mushy and crunchy and mealy all at the same time. Perhaps the chef had an off night, as breakfast was better! We also still enjoyed the dining experience with the lovely staff and beautiful views.

The staff was excellent, They understood the needs of the guests without asking.

Staff was excellent. Dessert was excellent. Room was very nicely configured. Very quant 9 room inn and clean.
Showing signs of wear and tear and not being maintained (screens broken on door, some peeling of wall paper). Dinner was average, but breakfast was excellent. View of Mt Fuji was side view, can't see directly from room and need to be on balcony. Difficult to travel to by public transit.

Such a beautiful ryokan with fantastic staff. Had a very relaxing stay and the most delicious kaiseki dinner! The open air bath was amazing.

We like the in indoor onsen, dinner and breakfast are excellent, everything is perfect.

Fabulous spacious room with view of mt fuji and private onsen, great staff and dinner of 12 courses in private rooms wonderful. Dressed in native costumes, lots of fun. Very private boutique hotel.
Sorry we only stayed 1 night!

Fantastic service from all the staff.
Treated us like royalty!
Beautiful rooms, and loved the outdoor spring bath.
The traditional Japanese meals were outstanding, and were all served with explanations.

It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing, being vegatarian they made a 10 course meal and dessert with two hours notice. The staff were incredible and helpful. Such a great value for what you pay. The onsen was so great, used it in -4 degrees with the view of mount Fuji. The staff warned us when it was cold and might snow so we could wear extra layers. Could not reccomend this place ebough. The food was some of the best food we have ever had so a huge thank you to the chief
