The hot spring was very nice. The water is excellent.
The recreation room needs to be organized and the property needs to be cleaned up.

A clean, new bidet in each room.
A small sink in each room to fill water, wash hands and face.
Shared bath/onsen, but private. Outdoor onsen is popular but the 2 indoor ones are just as nice and don't require reservation. Because there are only 8 or 9 roomful of people, 3 baths were more than plenty. It was never busy when we needed it.
Staff were pleasant.
View from the room was nice with large windows. Very peaceful.
Close to bus stop that's 5 minutes away from Togendai station, which has the pirate ship (sightseeing cruise) and ropeway (gondola).
Location was a bit more rural and finding food was a challenge, especially on weekdays! (Many shops closed on Wednesday and maybe Thursday too)
Not much food to buy in the ryokan.
Slippers "system" could be better. It's the most "shared" thing there. I would've liked personal slippers (maybe with room number) that get cleaned after all guests.
We had a 10-year-old and the yukata/kimono/slippers did not fit him. Only teen / adult sized.

The staff (Kyoko) was so very accommodating and helpful. The private onsens were perfect for the members of my family afraid of public baths, while still providing a hot spring experience. There was only a single fee for using the bath. Everything about this place is very fair priced and great value. The close 30 min walk from Lake Ashi (my favorite part of Hakone) made this place a hidden gem.
Meals are not included with this onsen and it is difficult to acquire food nearby.

So quiet, clean good condition rooms, Onsen was great. Owner spoke no English but had heaps of flash cards to communicate and she was lovely.
Car parking very small, only a few cars possible. Would not want to NOT have a car to get there!

Как только выходишь из гостинницы, то открывается вид на Фудзи. Горячим источником можно было пользоваться по записи и были ванны, где она не обязательна. Все очень понравилось:))

Nothing
The facility was filthy, the doors to the rooms were not secured and can easily be broken into, no privacy in the hot bath/shower areas. People from other rooms in the hotel can look into the baths from their rooms.

The private onsen was amazing. There were not a lot of guests the week we were there, so we reserved the private onsen for multiple timeslots. The room too was great, very traditional Ryokan, spacios, clean. Has everything you need. Above all, the staff-combo of mother and son were great!
No breakfast facility. No restaurants or 7eleven nearby. Please come to the location well-fed and with snacks. You otherwise need to hop on a bus or in a taxi to go off-site for that.
Location in a small challenge to find, but you know that already, clearly documented in the comments. But not impossible. There are two bus-stops on either side from which you can arrive at. We arrived at night, very dark, super quiet, but the winding roads leading up to the hotel are well lit. Area is super quiet. Google maps saved the day.

The hotel is old but well setup. The staff are friendly and the onsen are lovely.
It’s quite far from the train station but accessible by bus. Everywhere says it’s only 50 minutes from the station but each time we went it took us just over an hour and a half.

If you are not looking for a glamorous, itsy fancy facility; this place is a hidden gem for Onsen enthusiasts. It's sort of a family-run Ryokan down to earth comfortable with proper planning. The bus stop is #258 and not #256. At the moment, there is neither restaurant nor a convenience store near the facility. Visitors can really enjoy a private onsen session and a good rest that is close to the natural setting at this remote up-the-hill surrounded by nature. The bus stop is a 10mn walk from the facility and a few stops away from the Ropeway and the riding of the ship of Ashinoko Lake. My family is looking for the next stay at this wonderful Ryokan.
It needs directions and a sign to guide visitors to the facility from the bus stop and the main street nearby.

Great little spot with about only 10 rooms. Very quiet and serene location. The buildings are a little run down but great value given there are 3 private onsens that can be used. Views of Fuji-san from out the front of the ryokan. We really enjoyed the piano playing, it made it very peaceful.

The view and the private hot spring inside the property
You take out the garbage yourself which is no problem but there is no place to put it.

Nice hot onsens with forest views, and quiet wooded setting, high above lake. Comfy and well furnished room, with high and low tables and chairs, TV and kettle. Nice friendly staff.
No food available and no nearby shops. Also they need to correct their entry, that the nearest bus stop is Mae Palace (Gate?) Hotel, one bus stop away from Onsen So. Thin futons and quite hard pillows .

Great place, located just few steps from bus station. We could use onsens twice a day - it was very very nice. Friendly and helpful staff. Very quiet during night.

The Chojuyu Hakone is a very unique and traditional ryokan. It is located not too far from the Hakone ropeway station and the pirate ship port. It’s readily accessible by local bus. The staff is very welcoming and obliging. The host is a an exceptionally gifted pianist and we were luckily invited to listen to him play in the music room. Our room was nice with traditional tatami floors and its own tv, fridge and toilet. We loved the three fantastic private hot springs with real onsen water. A superb way to finish a hard days sightseeing in the mountains.
We loved staying at the Chojuyu Hakone and will be delighted to stay again. However, it was a little difficult to find. Our Apple Maps and car navigation took us within 500 meters of the ryokan, but couldn’t find the exact location. We needed to phone the ryokan for directions. Maybe, Google maps might be more successful. A few sign posts with arrows to help guests to find the location would be welcomed.

The workers were very helpful and very kind. I also really enjoyed the Onsen.
The place itself looked a little run down.

most traditional ryokan we stayed in. slept so well on the tatami! our room had a great view; we kept the curtains fully open our whole stay.
the property has 3 onsen, all private. The outdoor onsen is reservable in 40 minute increments in the evening and 30 minute increments in the morning. we took full advantage - ending and starting the day with a soak was amazing.
we stayed here over the new year so a lot of area restaurants were closed. the hosts went out of their way and provided us with dinner and breakfast at the property (and accommodated food allergies as well).
the property is decently easy to get to - we took the gondola to Togendai; it was about a 20 minute walk from there down some trails to Onsenso. There's also a bus that stops nearby.
Tip: we left most of our luggage in a locker in Odawara Station and took with us only what we need for our couple days in Hakone. this gave us great flexibility to explore the area.
there are not many restaurants or activities directly near the property - if our hosts hadn't provided dinner/breakfast it would have been difficult to find irrespective of new years' closures. you'd need to take a bus or taxi down the mountain for most options.

Two large onsens that you can freely use if no one else is using. An outdoor private onsen that can be reserved. Comfortable and spacious rooms. The owner was also really friendly and willing to help us.
Location was slightly hard to get to.

Spacious room, nice view and lovely hot spring.

nothing good
bad. smell at room

The place looks like it’s recently renovated, so it looks great. The onsen is adequate. There
are things to do for leisure. The room is clean and very comfortable. Overall it was a nice experience.
A huge plus is the proprietor. He is a great pianist, and I find his playing rather pleasant than a nuisance.
The location is quite far from convenient stores, and the facility is currently not serving food aside from a few grocery.
3.9
The tatami rooms are comfortable and have all necessities. The onsen baths are a nice touch and good.
Parking space is limited, and the allowed smoking area allows for the smell to pass along the property.

Very welcoming owner and staff! Clean and nice stay.

Onsen was nice, big rooms, table tennis table and board games were available. Very quite location.

Friendly staff. Spoken fluent english. Super helpful staff, clean room, enjoyed the onsen privately with my family.
No complaints

The place is nice, all surrounded with the trees. Big room with additional space near the window.
Dirty... We found long black hair on the white towels, on the white sheets, in onsen, in the sink ((( Also we found chewed gum under the chair. The hotel seems to be very old & tired...

At first we’re a bit questioned the location which you need to climb on the mossy and slippery stair steps after you get off from Onsenso. Entrance is a bit let down but when Eriya san approach us with smile and hospitality, everything goes smooth forward. Oh forgot to mentioned we checked in too early with no problem and we are the only guest so we got the whole guesthouse by ourselves. it’s a real natural hotspring!!!.. bed and facility is clean and we join eriya san playing piano and sing! It’s a blast! We will be ack here again for sure!.
Signage to guesthouse for the first timer could be improve in the road.
