About this cottage rental
This summer cottage on an island in Maine overlooks the beautiful Penobscot Bay. This rustic cottage has a moderate living space with a wood-burning stove, an inner porch with a great view of the bay, and a lot of family charm. The house was built in the 1930s by two sisters of the Allen family, who owned the property next to this one. This cottage has been passed down through the family and cherished by each generation. The entire property has a lovely view of the Penobscot Bay.
Amenities include: WiFi, beach access, shared driveway but private parking, w/d in home, dishwasher. There are only two markets on the island, so we suggest getting your groceries before embarking on your journey by way of ferry departing from Lincolnville (which runs from 8 am - 5 pm daily).
If you are looking for a calm, rustic retreat away from it all this is the cottage for you.
~ If your party needs a little extra room, we have an additional cabin for 2 on the property that you may also consider ~ See HomeAway Listing # 4210882 ~

Cabin was welcoming, very clean, relaxful, and very quiet. The ocean views from the porches were spectacular. The stairs to get to the beach were scary but worth it. Over-all the stay was memorable.

Really enjoyed our stay and walking on the beach. Lots of nice trails on the island. We spent most of our time on the sun porch.

Our second time staying at this house. Both times it fit our needs. Being above the water front with a set of stairs. We kayaked just about everyday and biked around the island. Spent a lot of time just sitting on the porch watching bald eagles, osprey fly by. Seals popping up and boats of all types. Quiet and relaxing!

This is our second visit, we love the rustic nature of this old summer cottage. We love the beach, swimming, and searching for sea glass. We played a lot of games, swam, went for walks, read, and ate lobster!
The only things that are slightly troubling is the place needs a good scrubbing. I swept up a lot of fur, we didn’t bring a dog. We misplaced a charger and when looking under the beds you can tell they haven’t been moved and cleaned under them in a long time. Also, the toilets smell of urine. I cleaned them to be sure they were clean. Maybe there is a slow leak?
These things did not ruin our trip! We had an amazing time and will be back again!

This vacation was just what we needed, peaceful and quiet cottage with all amenities, an indoor porch in case of bad weather, an outdoor porch with an amazing sea breeze, and a big cove for swimming or beach walking. We loved this so much we already booked next year too. If you like the outdoors and want to disconnect from the world for a while, this is definitely the place to go!

Pros: Quiet. This is it if you are looking for quiet. The cottage: The glassed-in porch is the star. The windows open too. The kitchen is updated and a pleasure to cook in. The living room is very cozy at night. There was a musky smell when we 1st arrived, but went away quickly once all windows were open and never came back, but then again the windows were open the whole vacation. Cons: The view will be obstructed soon if the owner doesn't cut down some small trees, it seems without affecting the buffer zone. The outside grounds in general need a lot of TLC. The cottage was clean, but there was dog hair all over the bed blankets in one room. Would I stay there again, for $1,400? Yes, if the grounds were cleaned up and the view opened up.

We loved our stay at this fantastic Miane Coastal Cottage. The cottage has some much character and history. The deck was larger then we anticipated from the photos. Enjoyed the views from the deck and sun porch. Lots of places to hike and explore on the Island. We will be back!

The property worked great for us. Kayaking was great out in the bay and around the contour of the shore. Walks along the rocky shore was relaxing. The deck while small worked perfectly for us. Also the closed in porch was great to hangout in during the evening. The stairs to the shore while steep were not an issue. Kitchen was well stocked to meet our needs. Bedrooms worked for us (2 couples for 5 nights plus my adult son and his girlfriend for 2 nights).

We enjoyed staying at your cottage while we visited our grandchildren on Islesboro. The kitchen had everything we needed to make meals. The porch was our favorite place to hang out and play games. The view was spectacular. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.

We loved the peace and solitude of this island as well as the rustic family cabin. We read books, swam at the beach down the stairs as well as the town beach. We met some very nice neighbors and some friendly locals. We watched seals in the harbor, found star fish, shells, sea glass, and a sand dollar! We hiked a nearby trail, ate lobsters chosen fresh off the boat, shopped daily in both general stores. We had breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches from the Dark Harbor Shop. We truly appreciate the beautiful views and all the people we came across. Such a wonderful experience.

Located on a small bluff over a cove, this is the vacation we most look forward to each year ! Lobster off the boat, morning sunrises out the window, and the sound of waves lapping the shore melt away all stress from the daily grind. This location has become our favorite yearly getaway 💐

Sweet cottage in a quiet cove
This little cottage is as described. It’s a quaint coastal house high up on a ledge in a calm cove. The house is furnished with cozy, modest furnishings that are clean and comfortable and not too dear for children to use comfortably. Family photos decorate the walls. Cups, dishes, pots and pans are in abundance in the old kitchen cupboards. There are steep stairs to the water’s edge —lovely swimming in high tide, and wonderful exploring in low.
This house is perfect for getting away from the distractions of the modern world. There are games and puzzles. No TV. Bring books, your knitting, sketching supplies or just sit and watch the sail boat with the saffron sail cover float around its mooring as the tide comes in and out.
Isleboro is a very quiet island. No restaurants per se. There are two small markets, an ice cream shop, cafe, and a couple tiny shops where one can visit with lovely folks. People are friendly. Everyone waves on the road. There are protected walking trails, but no big hikes. Water close by everywhere you go. Drive slow.

Pure relaxation!
Lovely and relaxing cottage, great location in the woods, yet offers gorgeous bay views. If relaxation and peace is what you are looking for, this is it. Durkee’s store is conveniently right around the corner and is well stocked. We had a great time!

Great Stay on Islesboro
We had a great stay and really enjoyed the location. The cottage had very quick access to the beach which was very nice. We really enjoyed drinking coffee in the sun room on the east side of the cottage each morning and watching the lobster boats in the small harbor next to the cottage. The kitchen was perfect and had everything you'd need, and three bedrooms was great for fitting our family. We'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

Beautiful, quiet, off the beaten path
This location is spectacular!! Gorgeous views, your own private beach. Getting down to the beach was a bit precarious (a staircase that’s steep enough to be more of a ladder). Our nerves were tested watching our 3 year old getting up and down but he managed pretty well.
The two older kids, 6 and 7, spent hours combing the beach for sea glass, starfish and sand dollars. Tons of treasures to be found! There’s also another beach on the opposite side of the peninsula we spent some time at too. It’s a quick little walk down the road.
The cottage was well stocked and we had plenty of room to spread out even with a group of 7! There are plenty of dishes and cookware. We were so grateful for the dishwasher and washer dryer. We even used the wood stove on a chilly rainy evening!
We so enjoyed our stay, it was the perfect place to decompress and relax for a week. Wish we had booked 2 weeks!

Piece of Heaven
The MOST relaxing vacation we’ve ever had! This 1930’s cottage is exactly the lodging my husband and I prefer to stay in. All the kitchen necessities one could want, a great charcoal grill, and that wonderful homey feeling we both treasure in a world of crazy business. The cottage is perfectly situated on a small rock cliff above a private little cove, accessible by a set of wooden stairs. The Sunrises are beautiful and the peaceful sound of the waves lapping against the shoreline melted the stress of this Covid pandemic right off the shoulders of this nurse manager. I actually read THREE books!!! We have already booked next year’s stay - just a fabulous, relaxing week!

Idyllic cottage
This little cottage is the quintessential Maine coastal spot. It is old fashioned, quaint and tucked away on an island among pines and cliffs. The perfect place to see the sunrise, unplug, sit on rocks, look at star fish during low tide, and do nothing. We’re going back.

Amazing island get-away
Islesboro is an amazing place for rest, relaxation and peaceful isolation; and the cottage is a beautiful place to call home for however long you can visit.
The cabin is clean, comfortable, and the kitchen is really well equipped for cooking (you'll want to be prepared with most of your groceries before taking the ferry since there's just a few general stores on the island). We also really enjoyed the fireplace and spent time on the beach every day.
It's a really great spot!

perfection
This traditional Maine camp was absolutely, 100% what we expected, wanted and needed from a trip 'home'. The perfect place to relax and restore. Tune the radio to WERU and leave it on as you sip your tea on the porch, make a meal in the well outfitted kitchen, sit by the wood stove or scramble the rocks. Our son LOVED it and event with breaking his arm (the island emergency services was amazing!) he can't wait to go back to "his" camp. We hope to make this an annual trip.

Wonderful quiet retreat
While older the home is well maintained and a decent size. The views of penobscot bay are beautiful. The owner was a pleasure to deal with answering any questions we had. Definitely would stay again!!

Lovely family cottage with lots of history on quiet island.
This three-bedroom cottage is simple but cozy and well located. We so enjoyed the direct access to the water and the sun porch for reading and eating. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen adequate and the island peaceful and beautiful.
If you want a place away from it all, in a simple cottage with room to read, nap and enjoy and enjoy lobsters, stay here. It's simple, its somewhat what rustic, but its comfortable.

Most relaxing vacation ever. The no TV thing was amazing. My wife and I were lucky enough to meet a few locals who guided us to all the beaches. We also got to experience of pulling out our own fresh lobster out of the crates at the docks. The nights got very chilly but the wood was supplied throughout the week for a very efficient wood stove. We had our own bald eagle living in the tree outside our deck. And a resident red squirrel and giant rabbit. Nightly the seals came in the chase bait fish. This trip is what you call the opposite of City Life.

Perfect getaway
We liked Julie’s place so much, we came for a second summer. Everything was perfect- just as we remembered. This year we stumbled into pickleball night - and would highly recommend it! Everyone was very friendly and it was a nice way to get some movement in before dinner.

Back on the island
Juli was great about answer my numerous questions, about contents of the cabin , location to the beach, other businesses on the island. The cottage was rustic , but quaint. I booked a surprise sailing trip on the Bonnie Lynn for us all. 3 hours on a beautiful sail boat. We had a great long weekend with our family.

Very comfortable with Amazing view
Beautiful view of the bay with its sparkling waters alternating with gentle fog.
Perfect Maine island rocky beach just a short path and steep stairs away. We could see occasional rabbits and chipmunks out the other windows. The complete kitchen allowed is to cook everything we wanted. The space heater warmed us on chilly mornings.

This was a perfect place to escape NYC. A place where sitting and staying is the all you’ll want to do in the best sense. Gorgeous views, idillic island a place to truly unplug, turn off, and forget the rest of the world. We will DEFINITELY be back for a longer stay next time.

Beautiful, quiet setting right on the beach. Perfect place to have a family retreat. Read a book and play games and make some lobster stew!! Islesboro is such a pretty place to visit and just a short ferry ride to mainland activities, shopping and restaurants. We definitely want to come back for a longer stay.
