Staff where amazing, food was delicious, pool & room where lovely
The queue for the bar was an absolute disgrace, very unorganised, management need to be trained on how to manage a busy night! The glasses were filthy! The Guinness was off & shouldn’t have been served. My father who had 2 pints was very sick from it!
I was speaking to some locals & they said it’s been like this for awhile! Some bar staff didn’t even know what club orange was or types of gin! Another couldn’t pour a pint!

Location was just lovely.
Beautiful Christmas atmosphere.
Delicious welcoming breakfast venue.
Constant strong smell of chlorine in our room possibly coming from the pool.

very little food left at breakfast and took a while to get it replenished

Breakfast was great the staff were so keen to help at breakfast. I had a great staff member help me in my room when I couldn't open the bathroom door and another who helped me with my pram which was much appreciated.
There were quite a few hairs in the bathtub wrapped around the chain for plug, outside was a large dog poo on the terrace.

Most of the staff were lovely and helpful
We didn't book breakfast but went down at 10 to see if they had a table available, the hostess was incredibly rude about it, so we didn't stay. We wouldn't have minded at all if she just said there were no tables but instead she rolled her eyes and started lecturing us about booking in advance..
Room was nice but very dated

Great size room, lovely staff. The guys in the bar were excellent.
Lots of excellent young staff but cfeel like the operational standards have slipped. It felt like the whole place could’ve done with some TLC …a good polish, paint and refurbishment. Staff are really lovely, but the place is tired. There was a leak in the ceiling during afternoon tea while we were there, outside the paint is peeling, gutters are full. Breakfast was fine but the ingredients could’ve been of a better quality.

Staff were pleasant. We were there for two nights. The Mapas menu was exactly the same on both nights.😔
The ‘plum pudding’ on the dessert menu was unavailable on both nights.??
Decor in Mapas was nice and clean.
Staff were very pleasant.
Hotel in general is very dated and needs a big upgrade. While it harks back to ‘old world grandeur ‘ it is all pretty shabby and in need of a huge revamp whilst still maintaining its old world vibe..At the entrance at the front door the ‘red carpet was dirty and the old door needs attention. The reception area is nice but then opens on to a big open plan lobby / casual dining area. This ‘jars’ somewhat with the entrance..Older staff were very pleasant and very busy.
The ‘ladies rest room ‘ at reception was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and demonstrated what the hotel ‘could be ‘ with some care and attention.
Our room had a balcony with sea view for which we paid extra. However the balcony door would not open. There was black damp/mould at the bottom of the door and down the side of the wall.
The glass panels on the doors were ‘fogged up and dirty ‘ as the ‘strip between the double glazing needed to be replaced. The bedroom furniture was ‘cheap ,old and dated..badly needs to be updated and replaced.
However the bed was ‘super comfortable’. Only good point in the bedroom..
There was mould and wet patches on a corridor ceiling. It is such a pity that this ‘old hotel ‘ is slipping into decay.
Hopefully the owners could look at Clontarf Castle / Dromoland Castle /Kilkea Castle etc and see what their property could be.
It’s so sad to see what must have been a lovely hotel slipping down into shabbiness..it’s so badly in need of an ‘injection of money’ and someone with foresight and flair to oversee its upgrade.
