About this house rental
Los Loros (named for the parrots that fly over morning and evening) is perched atop a frontline ridge, offering spectacular ocean and mountain vistas. You will enjoy delightful daytime sea breezes and cooling nighttiime mountain breezes.
Toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and other wildlife we haven’t totally identified, thrive in the lush tropical foliage. Even scarlet macaws are sighted (they are making a comeback to this area). Please see pictures (I'm not great on providing narrative) and the amenity list. Los Loros is located on the "easy side" of Ojochal - just 2 km off of the paved Costanera. The villa is fully equipped and ready to be lived in - please enjoy the magic that is Costa Rica. To save money, please send an inquiry rather than a reservation request.
Your stay includes free access to the Happy House.
In the interest of full disclosure, there are dogs next door (a not uncommon experience in Ojochal). Unfortunately, the neighbor allows her dogs to run loose, so they frequently visit the property.
Costa Rica Mindset:
Yes, there are bugs in CR- but these are kept under control by the breezes and the Gecko patrol. Should you happen to be bothered by bugs/geckos, you might wish to consider an alternative destination.
Driving is not recommended after dark (5:30). Unless your flight arrives in the morning, we suggest you spend your first CR night in the central valley, or along the way.
Several excellent restaurants are located in and around Ojochal, as well as all desired creature comforts. Nearby beaches include lovely Playa Tortuga (within view), Playa Ventanas (with 5 caves), Uvita’s Whale’s Tail, and the Marina Ballena National Park. Within 90 minutes driving are Manuel Antonio (most visited National Park in CR), Dominical (great surfing) and the entire Osa Peninsula experience. Enjoy zip line canopy tours, whale/ dolphin watching, bird watching, kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, sports fishing, etc., or simply cocktails on a choice of verandas as the sun drops below the horizon fifty miles away.
Ojochal de Osa is located along the Costanera Highway 30 minutes north of Palmar Sur Airport. (daily 35 minute flights from San Jose via Naturair or Sansa.) If driving from San Jose, the picturesque trip takes 3 ½ hours.
Warning: You may find yourselves setting an alarm to arise at dawn each day just to absorb ALL of the constant beauty around the remarkable surroundings of this gracious Mediterranean villa. And if you encounter particular problems during your stay, a resourceful English speaking manager resides locally just a phone call away.

The view is breathtaking, the pool relaxing. House is really very nice and the property manager extremely kind.

This property makes you feel like you're in Costa Rica! The only reason we didn't give it 5 overall was only a/c in one room and some cooking utensils in poor shape. Also some missing bulbs and Costa Rica plumbing!
Great place overall!

We want to thank owner Diane and our new friend Ken for sharing this beautiful property with us. The view was top of the world rain or shine. The pool was refreshing.and there was different wildlife to see daily. The barb que had infrared heat and worked like a charm. I can't think of a single thing I would change. Pura vida

Do Not Stay
This property is in dire need of updating and there is definitely a safety concern given the doors and windows do not lock effectively. The shower floor is disgusting and I tried bleach and vinegar which only caused the black mold to rise up in chunks. The house smells of mold and mildew . The oven, tv and CD player did not work. Further the property manager was very condescending and chauvinistic. The evening before my departure the internet was out so could not load Covid results or check into my flight. One of my worst VRBO stays ever!

Book this now!!!
We had an absolutely amazing stay. This property is stunning, from the ocean and sunset views to the pool to the toucans in the tree every morning and dusk. Truly magical. We fell in love with Ojochal and cannot wait to come back! The owner and property manager were lovely and very easy to communicate with. They recently added AC in the downstairs bedroom which we were very thankful for. We wished we didn’t have to leave this oasis and are counting the days until we can come back!

Great House, Great Location!
Had a great visit here in this very nice house. The grounds were spacious with one house nearby but out of sight. The grounds and pool were very private with an awesome view of the ocean and incredible sunsets. The driveway is quite steep, but well paved and our car had no problem with it. Kenny, the property manager, was always easy to contact if needed and quite helpful, and just an all-around good guy. Would highly recommend this house. We had a great stay!

Beautiful Rustic Location
The view of Ciudad Cortes and overall beauty of the place is hard to beat. Having a private pool that overlooks the stunning ocean is exactly what you are paying for. Inside, the property is a little dated (mattress, threadbare pillows, linens, etc.) and you're in the middle of the rainforest, so there are plenty of bugs--inside more than outside, it seems. We had to kill a few wasps. But the shower water was hot and the VIEW. We couldn't get over how beautiful the sunset was. There is NO AC at this property. Many people noted that with the windows and fans (of which there were several, which was nice), you didn't notice. But trust me, you notice. But . . . the view!! Honestly, for every complaint we had, we just looked outside and were instantly OK with where we were and what we were doing. The shops and restaurants at the bottom of the hill (4x4 definitely recommended) were delicious and the people warm and friendly. We were 30 minutes from the activities we chose to do, and this was fine with us. We loved coming back to our private, secluded villa and enjoying the evening rain or shine.

R and R in Paradise
Diane's house is beautiful, comfortable, easily accessible, secluded yet within walking distance to shops, and surrounded by panoramic views of the mountains and Pacific Ocean.
We saw blue Morpho butterflies, toucans, parots, howler monkeys, too many birds to list, etc. The pool is large enough to swim laps and immaculately clean. The house is comfortable and clean. Air conditioning is NOT needed. The ocean breeze and fans sufficiently cool the house. We wanted for absolutely nothing.
As mentioned in other reviews the neighbors dogs are NOT loud. You don't even notice them and the few times we did see them whilst walking they're ADORABLE.
Let me reiterate that we wanted for absolutely nothing except to stay longer. Diane is a really cool lady with an amazing property and my family is forever grateful to her for allowing us the opportunity to stay at her house. There were 2 adults and 2 kids and we had plenty of space.

Wonderful. Diane and Ken are great hosts, very responsive and offer a unique home
Offering views of both ocean and mountains, this home is somewhat unique for the area. It's at elevation such that one gets breezes throughout the day. The pool is great for lap swimming, larger than most.

Gorgeous views of mountains and the ocean!
fantastic place to stay. Ken is super helpful. The pool and the grounds are gorgeous! Perfectly planned for afternoon swims in partial shade. We spent Christmas here and it was the most relaxing Christmas we have ever had. The downstairs bedroom is separate from the main house and master upstairs, which has 2 amazing patios. We saw toucans, spider monkeys, howlers (you could hear them every morning and evening) and white faced monkeys! The little town of Ojochal is an amazing community, the grocery stores in Uvita have everything you need and the beaches are dreamy. Loved it. Get 4 wheel drive for the steep driveway and one short steep gravel hill on the road.

Beautiful home with spectacular ocean view!
We loved staying at Los Loros. The home is beautiful and the views are spectacular! The pool is wonderful as well. There were several beaches close by too. The beds are very comfortable and the bedrooms are more spacious than they look in the photos. Ken, the property manager was very nice and helpful. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to stay and couldn't be happier with the experience. I hope to be back someday!!

This house is close to heaven : )
Simply gorgeous home to rent - so, so beautiful - and the views of the ocean and sunsets every night to the west, and the green mountains to the east are amazing.
Fun, madcap, squawking parrots flying over morning and night, and toucans clattering in the trees each day were something that became a fond and memorable part of each day.
Pool is large, warm and refreshing, and wonderful for exercise or just floating. It was so perfect.
We stayed for one month, and it was not long enough. Owners and property manager were fabulous to work with.
Very well equipped kitchen and everything you need is right here in the house .... except food. Four wheel drive vehicle is recommended to get up and down the steep driveway and road in order to take advantage of the Excellent restaurants in the area (we recommend Bamboo, Terraba, Fusion, and Pancito). They are not too far, but not walking distance. If you feel like cooking, there are two small grocery stores close by in Ojochal (also not walking distance - we liked Jucaloa 1 further up the road better than Jucaloa 2 by the highway) and larger ones up the highway in Uvita.
Neighbors have dogs (hey, it's Costa Rica : ) but the few nights that some barking bothered us, we called and the dogs were calmed in about 10 minutes.
This was such a peaceful, private, and beatific refuge. We did not want to leave and are looking forward to returning.

A slice of Heaven!
A charming and romantic house with fabulous views! The pool is beyond wonderful and the ambiance of the surroundings are lovely. My husband and I were mesmerized by the amazing sunsets and the "fairies" that light up the lawn at dusk. I love that there is a separate bed & bath downstairs for getting our showers in without having to wait for ,or work around ,each other. Ken, the property manager, was welcoming, helpful, and very informative. Unlike other properties we've been to, Ken told us when the pool maintenance person would come by, not surprising us unannounced! We appreciated the respect of our privacy. There are plenty of fans for when it gets a bit warm and plenty of dishes, pots pans for cooking, plenty of towels for bath and pool too. We love Ojochal and Los Loros! Thanks Diane and Ken!

Lovely but no water to wash your face
The place was lovely and but for the lack of water on the 3rd day, 3rd night, and the 4th day, I would've rated it higher. It was pretty bad. We could not take a shower or wash our faces. We travel extensively and have never before experienced lack of water services at a rental place. Once. the electricity went out due to a storm and the lodge owner felt pretty bad (it was not his fault at all), and he reimbursed us for that night. We have contacted the owner of casa de los loros and she has not responded. We have asked for reimbursement for 1 night and again, no response. It's pretty disappointing. We paid them cash as they wanted.
On a positive note, because the driveway is very steep and we did not have a 4x4 vehicle, the property manager took my mom to the local store to buy food (the 4x4s were sold out when we visited Costa Rica--keep in mind that the cost of rental vehicle in Costa Rica is extremely high as they impose undisclosed, mandatory insurance fee once you get there and the charge is as much as my parents pay for 6 months for a Mercedes Benz in the U.S, in other words if you paid online $400 to rent a vehicle when you go to get it, the charge becomes $900-1200),

Lovely home and view
We really enjoyed the home with a great pool and a spectacular view. Comfortable rocking chairs to watch the birds and wait out the rains.
The dogs next door were a bit barky at times. Overall we had a great time.

Stunning!!!
A perfectly awesome house, a super location, and stunning ocean and mountain views.
Our stay was 30 very short days. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences for us to date in the Southern Zone. We could hear the waves at night, rocking us to sleep. The rainbow over the mountains after a light shower was the icing on the cake. Their were 4 retired adults in our party and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Diane, Rick and Ken were always available and attentive to our calls whenever we had
questions with a quick response. Many great restaurants in the very close proximity.
We ate out often but also enjoyed preparing our meals and dining at home.
We explored the Ventanas caves which could be seen from the pool. The pool by the way was larger than most and we spent much of our time swimming and lounging and sipping on fresh fruit smoothies. The beaches were phenomenal and we also found a waterfall a short drive south with a wonderful refreshing pool to swim in. Of course, bird watching was always a great pastime.
Our biggest concern was the fact that the house had no air conditioning. Diane assured us this would not be a problem. She couldn't have been more right. In fact, we went to bed with the ceiling fan on only to wake in the middle of the night to turn them off and cover up with the sheets. I am always concerned with the quality of the beds when we travel but found these beds to be very comfortable. We felt very safe and had no security issues.
We would definitely recommend putting Los Loros on your radar for a future stay in the beautiful Southern Zone of Costa Rica.

Los Loros, Heaven on Earth!
Los Loros is indeed a true Costa Rican home located in a beautiful spot overlooking the Southern Pacific Ocean as well as the mountains above Ojochal. We had the pleasure of staying nearly 3 weeks at the villa to end our 8-week vacation to Central America. Personally we enjoyed the fact that the home has character in a style that is not as common as you might think in Costa Rica. While some new homes incorporate the Central American style, most homes here are constructed to mirror the way U.S. homes look. This home has most of the amenities anyone would want, and we found the Costa Rican flavor of the home to be just what we were looking for. Stress will totally disappear here, something we hadn’t expected, so prepare to be relaxed when you are here! Access to homes anywhere in the Southern Zone can be quite challenging, driveways can be quite steep and scary, but when Diane described Los Loros as on the “easy side” of Ojochal she wasn’t kidding. One of the most accessible homes we’ve had the pleasure to stay at. Literally 3 minutes from some of the best restaurants in the country, Exotica, Mama e Papa’s, and Citrus will delight your culinary tastes, be sure to make reservations though. Diane the owner was, and has been a joy to work with, and Ken the property manager couldn’t be better if he tried, very nice and extremely attentive to any question you may have or any issues that arise, thanks Ken!! As you can see, the villa is already reserved for our 4 month visit next year, but we would like everyone to know that while the Summer (December through April) is phenomenal in this area of the country, the Green Season is by far one of the best times to come here. Lush foliage and afternoon rains during the green season are fantastic, with sun most every morning. If you’re thinking of spending time here, you’ll really enjoy May through October in the Southern Zone. Thanks again Diane and Ken, see you soon!!
