We had an amazing time at Black Point staying in Seaweed Cottage. Ida was very responsive to my questions and arranged a golf cart rental and boat tour for us. She picked us up from the airport, gave us a quick tour of the island pointing out restaurants and markets, and stopped at a market before taking us to her cottage. The golf cart was waiting for us when we arrived which allowed us to explore the island as soon as we got settled in. The cottage is as described- Very clean, comfortable, with amazing waterfront views. The AC works great! TVs in all rooms with streaming services. The boat tour she arranged included 8 stops (including lunch at Staniel Cay Yacht Club.) I highly recommend the tour- saw the pigs, iguanas, beautiful sandbar, sharks, Rachel’s bubble bath, Thunderball grotto. We spent 3 days at the most beautiful, secluded beach nearby called Plain Bay. Highly recommend this beach! I packed basic snacks for our stay which allowed us to stay at the beach all day and we only went to restaurants at night. We ate at Emerald View, Lorraine’s High Tide, and Black Point YC. Ida’s son picked us up and took us to the airport for our departure. We will be back to stay in her cottage again but will stay longer next time! Thank you, Ida, for sharing your home with us!

We wanted a great holiday get-away, just the two of us. 10 days. She met us at the airport, checked on us multiple times, met our every need, amazing place, private, low key. I wouldn't question booking this immediately again. Extremely clean and had everything we needed. No exceptions! Still in communication with her as our friend because we already miss her! Can't wait to go back!

Fabulous cottage located on Black point.
Fabulous cottage located on Black point. Location is an A+. Communication was on island time. Upon arrival in Blackpoint found out Landlord was in Nassau. Had to track down her son to get checked in. No washer and dryer at site even though it says that is an amenity. Everything on island easily accessible by golf cart. Golf carts are available for rent from Landlord. If you’re flying out of Staniel Cay you must take a boat to Staniel. Best plans are to fly in and out of blackpoint. Well worth the money!

Welcome to Paradise in Black Point Cay!
Hi, it’s my sincere pleasure to recommend Ida Patton’s cottages in Black Point Cay. Her rentals are located with beautiful views of the leeward and windward sides of the island- just breathtaking. The cottages give you privacy and are extremely clean and well decorated. They are walking distance to great quaint restaurants and Ida also has great deals on powered boats, with or without guides, golf cart, and bike rentals.
Ida is wonderful. A lifelong friend now after this trip because she puts her heart and soul into everything she does. She made our trip so easy and pleasant. Thank you Ida! All your great reviews are true, and thank you for your hospitality, kindness and help with every detail! I could go on and on about Ida - she is wonderful and it started before our trip as she answers questions before you go and can help you with any logistics, supply and any ideas you have for activities. She picked us up from the airport and she and Dellwood helped from day one to provide us with fantastic customer service! Dellwood also was a wonderful boat and tour guide and showed our family so many places to snorkel, and experience - certainly more than any commercial guided trip advertised - we saw it all! This is exactly what you want when you vacation. So many pictures and videos of unique spots and fun! Thank you Dellwood- you were wonderful! Takeaway- I have traveled with the military in many places around the world and this is one of the safest, most beautiful places I have ever been. I will be back and 100% will continue to rent from Ida! I also rented a 4 seater prop airplane into Black Point and the airport is great. No worries parking and everyone on the island is great! The sand here is like sugar-just amazing. The water is ice blue- on the leeward side and a beautiful blue on the windward side. Between my daughters and Wife and I we probably took 500 pictures or more. You just can’t believe how pretty this Island and the surrounding Exuma islands are unless you experience it yourself! Looking forward to returning!

Great week at Ida’s cottage.
Wonderful hiiltop location overlooking beautiful calm beach on one side and the rougher but also wonderful Atlantic beach on other. If strong swimmer, very nice close reefs on Atlantic side. Cottages exceptionally well maintained with all needed amenities. Definitely rent golf cart as Island itself has many empty beaches and nice spots you can go on your own (over rocky dirt roads). But also rent a boat for at least for few days to see all nearby attractions and hundreds of nearby beaches on other islands. Suggest boat guide for at least one day to show you the pigs, sharks, where get gas, and tips on navigating local water/fishing spots- Ida’s son was ours and did great job. Town has a few restaurants and grocery stores- but if staying longer definitely bring canned meats/rice/pasta. If you like to fish bring your rods (squid bait can be bought at Staniel Cay) and you will have food for the whole week. . Small town extremely friendly all of whom will know you in a few days- and as a definite plus staying at Blackpoint you avoid the uppity Yacht set crowd on Staniel. But best thing of rental is Ida herself. One of friendliest nicest people we have met. She will always go out of her way help you in any way possible.

Paradise
Black Point is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The location of the cottage is perfect. You have water views from the front porch and the back deck. The water is crystal clear and the beaches are pristine. Words cannot describe how truly breathtaking this slice of paradise is. The people of Black Point are some of the loveliest, friendliest and kindest that I have ever met. Dining at Deshamons is a must! They accommodated every special request that we made. Definitely rent a golf cart. WiFi is spotty so try to unplug and enjoy the charm of this incredibly special place. A heartfelt thank you to our host, Ida, who picked us up from the airport, arranged an amazing boat tour, drove us back to the airport upon departure and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fabulous vacation. This special place will always have a place in my heart and I look forward to returning!

Great Place we will be back.
The beach cottage was great and Black Point is so quaint and the water is the clearest I have ever seen. We rented a golf cart and I would recommend this for sure almost a necessity. We stayed a week and it did rain and had heavy winds the first part of the week but that subsided by mid week. We had to make the best of it. We did have a power outage one night and had a commutation issue with Ida but it was taken care of. We rented a boat and did the grotto and saw the pigs and iguanas. Ida packed us some food to give to both. She is really sweet. Note don't take the food out of boat on pig beach only feed the pigs once your leaving on boat. We also took the boat in a separate day down to farmers Cay and feed the turtles. Go to Ty's and have a drink and visit Roosevelt Nixon at the yacht club in Farmers Cay for lunch. Also eat at Deshamons we had fish almost every meal Simon and Diann Smith own this and they are the nicest people. Diann makes the best cakes and breads. Ida also makes great carrot cake. Also make sure you golf cart to Plain Bay beach it is the best beach in all the Bahamas. The people who live in Black Point are very nice and friendly. We can't Wait to visit again!!.

Amazing position ! Amazing host ! Amazing island living !
Ida's cottages have an incredible position on a very characteristic and charming bay that at low tide reveals many sandbars and allows for morning walks to the other side while looking for starfish and chasing sea birds ! Never seen such a place ! Moreover because they are located right were the island narrows down, depending on the wind you can walk down (few steps) to either side of the island and enjoy flat calm waters anyhow. You really have the impression to be on your own tiny island. The cottage itself is spot clean and like-new conditions. Sincerely we were not expecting such a beautiful place in such pristine state which you can call home for few days. Ida will go above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. She will arrange boat tours of Exumas cays to see pigs, iguanas, sharks, etc...at our request she managed to find fresh fish and provided a BBQ grill for us to cook it. Highly recommend renting from her a golf cart to be able to visit the many secrets and unspoiled beaches of the island. The best ones are only a short ride away and they are not to be missed. Figure incredible deserted white and rose sand beaches with a water so transparent that you can almost drink it and I admit I tasted it ! Just before sunset you have rays coming to shore on almost any beach looking for dinner and they eventually will bump into your feet if you stand still ! We visited South Pacific many times and so far this is the only Caribbean place that can compare. Please remember you are on a secluded little island in the middle of the sea not really different from being on a sailboat cruise so that you will appreciate things like internet (available via DSL and sometine subject to the wills of the elements...) and fresh water (produced by sea water desalinization) available at Ida's or being able to find (few) produces at local stores. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and I personally went unconnected for a while and totally relaxed. Many many thanks to Ida as an exceptional host. She will pick you up at the airport (well...a short landing strip...the flight itself is quite an experience) and drive you back and wait for the plane with you, just like family !

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we did not have a care in the world (other than making sure you ordered your dinner the night before or the morning before you started your day). Ida and everyone on the island were just so welcoming. They made you feel right at home. We hired a captain and spent a day touring the island by boat. Saw the famous pigs, iguanas, swam with the nurse sharks, had lunch at Staniel Cay, swam at Thunderball Grotto, stopped to take pictures and walk on an amazing sand bar, stopped and picked up some amazing oversized starfish and released them back into the water. If you have the time, I highly recommend this trip as it is a day you will never forget. The cottage location is perfect. The views were just… amazing. We spent days just lying on our chairs reading and taking it all it. Directly behind the cottage is the Atlantic side which is great for shelling and finding sea glass if that is your thing and also for exploring which we love to do. If you are internet dependent this is not the vacation for you at all. Internet at the cottage is not dependable. In town it is more reliable. This is a place to unplug and "let it go" as we kept joking all week. You will need to rent a golf cart to explore as there are some really beautiful beaches to see and spend time at while you are on BP. I would recommend bringing basics from Nassau. If you like your am coffee and half & half bring that as well as they do NOT sell it on the island. We brought bread, cheese, crackers, bagels and snack foods and what they sell in the market is basic and expensive. Would we return, yes! Our last night on our vacation was spent at Atlantis in Nassau and we both agreed we will never be staying at a large resort ever again. We have been spoiled by the luxury and warm hearts of the people of Black Point and we could never thank them enough for making our vacation so memorable.

Most amazing trip
If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful getaway, this is the place. I can't begin to explain what an amazing time we had at Black Point. Ms. Ida is such a wonderful host. Her cottages were so clean and cozy, not to mention in a perfect location with an incredible view. We had a golf cart to get around the island and to go exploring. You can rent a boat to island hop over to Pig Beach, Iguana Beach, Thunderball Grotto and more. The people on the island were all so friendly and fun to be around. Everyone made us feel right at home everywhere we went.
Thank you, Ms. Ida, for your hospitality and kindness and for helping us have this incredible vacation.

Just what we were looking for!
Spent 3 nights in one of Ida's four properties with my wife and 2 kids (10 and 12 years old). We absolutely loved it! The property itself was clean, roomy, comfortable, and situated a few steps away from an incredible sandy beach. Kayaks, hammock, lounge chairs, and paddle board are all made available for no extra cost and we made use of all of them. Black Point is a really charming town with super friendly people. We rented a golf cart from Ida which made getting around a breeze. My son played basketball with the local kids after school our first day there which was a blast. The kids were awesome and really made my son feel welcome. Ida was super helpful and renting a boat from her along with a captain to give us a day-tour of the surrounding islands and beaches was just jaw dropping. An absolute must! Supper at Lorraine's and buying freshly baked coconut bread from Lorraine's mom was also a standout. Just be aware that it is very relaxed on the island so long waits for supper can be expected. As a matter of fact, part of the menu is only available if you pre-order hours in advance... but it is well worth it. Ordered the snapper in the afternoon for our supper at 19:00 and it was delicious. Basically, if you are looking for a relaxing vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, black point delivers in spades. 3 days was not enough, we are already planning our next vacation here and will be staying 7 to 10 days next time. See you soon Ida!

We loved every day we spent there.
My husband and I had a blast in Ida and Terrance cottage. It was our first time on Bahamas and we wanted to get as local as possible. From the first minute of our arrival we realized that it was a right choice: 15 minutes boat ride to the cottage from Staniel Island, turquoise water, warm greeting by our hosts made us happy end excited. The cottage is smartly decorated with conditioner and ceiling fan. Very comfortable bathroom with a spacious shower stall, fully equipped kitchen and complimentary water. Upon arrival we have to do food shopping: convenience store was 20 minutes walk and a short distance to the dock across the bay. First time in our lives we used kayak to "go" to the grocery store. This chore turned out to be a fun kayak trip to the local food store and a bar where we found everything we needed: beer, rum, gin, tonic, and wine. We are not picky so eggs, milk, serial, canned food, and freshly baked coconut bread were sufficient for our breakfasts and lunches. Several nights we enjoyed delicious suppers in the local restaurants. And a couple of nights we cooked the fish that my husband caught in the ocean right from the beach 200 feet away from the cottage. Hiking, swimming, kayaking occupied us all week long and if we could we would stay there forever. Ida and Terrance checked on us almost daily and were very responsive to our needs. My husband brought all fishing gears but forgot fishing poll at home. Ida and Terrance brought us several polls the same night that made my husband very happy. We highly recommend this cottage to all people who prefer to stay off beaten tourists tracks and go with the flow.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ida and Terrance.

Exactly what we needed !!
When my husband and I decided to revisit the Bahamas for our 5 year anniversary, we dreamed of literally being alone on a tropical island together and that is exactly what we got at Blackpoint. This was such a great way to take in the local cultures and escape the traditional tourist tracks. The cottage was perfect, Ida and Terrance were amazing hosts and we truly had the time of our lives !! The golf cart is a must, there are so many private beaches to explore here. The boat is a must !! We visited the pigs, the iguanas, the gratto, and snorkeled until we couldn't snorkel anymore. The cottage was equiped with paddleboard and a kayak. There was truly nothing more we could have asked for. We came just outside of the "season" and only had 3 neighbors who were great. One thing to note, the pictures of the cottages only show 3 structures, but this bluff has about 10 different property rentals on it. As we came off-season, we still had a lot of privacy as most of the properties were not occupied. Just something to note if you are looking for a truly private experience. This was the best time that we have ever had and hope to come back and visit again very soon. Thank you Ida and Terrance for everything !

Exumas one of the most beautiful places on Earth!
One word can describe our visit to Exuma Cays "Amazing" . My Daughter and I visited BlackPoint Cay and stayed in Ida's two bedroom cottage. She was a gracious host and owner. Everything was perfect. Upon arrival she greeted us at the airport with our rented Golf Cart true VIP status. The cottages are very well decorated and with all amenities as a home away from home. Views from the cottages simply breathtaking with a gorgeous sunset every day. She also arranged a boat rental that we used for the day to visit the swimming pigs and other Cays in the area. Simply beautiful area The EXUMAS! Cant wait to go back. Warm friendly people on Black Point we had an awesome vacation. Thank you Ida look forward to returning soon.

My husband and I stayed at Ida's studio cottage for 10 days. The best ever!!! We were greeted at the islands airport and taken to our beautiful cottage. Ida has a great eye for decorating and uses quality linens and towels. we rented a golf cart which I highly recommend. The town is quaint and friendly. This is our second time back and it was like old home week. Deshamons (Diane and Simon) serves great food and drinks. Rambo makes wonderful rum punch smoothies and Lorraines fried chicken is the best. Dance the night away at Scorpios and visit Zhivago and D.J.Papa , you can put your name on a dollar bill and they will hang it on the bar. I could go on and on so come see for yourself and fall in love with the island and the people.

Amazing, beautiful, wonderful island paradise!!
My family of 3 stayed in Ida's two bedroom cottage over Memorial Day weekend. The cottages are beautiful, very nicely decorated, and have the most amazing views you can imagine. We rented a golf cart to get around the island which was a lot of fun and very convenient. This was by far our best vacation ever. The people on Black Point are so wonderful. Everyone was so kind and helpful. Go to Deshamons for great food and wonderful service. Rambo is a wonderful person and it's worth it to go just to make his acquaintance. Raynor was an awesome boat guide who showed us around and took us to many very cool places. Vacation here and be ready to unplug, unwind and enjoy a very beautiful island.

Paradise!
Ida’s beachfront cottages were absolutely amazing. The view is one that will stay with me forever. I traveled to Black Point with my sister, mother, grandmother, great aunt, and mother in law. Quite the crew! Upon arrival, we were greeted at the airport in Staniel Cay and taken, by boat, to Black Point. Talk about a one of a kind entrance! With the beautiful water and islands all around, you can’t help but going into your trip in awe. I am a sucker for wildlife, so seeing the rays, nurse sharks, and beautiful fish were an added bonus!
Ida’s cottages were in pristine condition. The air conditioning was fabulous! Rent the golf carts to get around the island. Take a gander at the beach behind the cottages, too. Look at the other reviews for suggestions of where to eat (this is what we did), especially ordering dinner ahead of time! We really enjoyed the crack conch and lobster, fish fingers, and rum punch! We stuck to Lorraine’s and Deshamon’s for the majority of our meals. Deshamon’s had pretty good pizza! Order some groceries ahead of time so that you have snack food/ lunch food at the cottages (coconut bread). The grocery store, Aderly’s, has some basic stuff, but not a lot. If you plan to partake in adult beverages, please note that white wine is not incredibly easy to come by. If you are ok with liquor and beer, you are good to go. Anything else, you may want to give Ida a good heads up and order it ahead of time!
We did a half day excursion visiting the pigs, iguanas, and sharks in Compass Cay. On said excursion, we did eat at the Staniel Cay yacht club and it was delicious. With some of our crowd being a little more seasoned and fresh out of knee replacement surgery, we did not get in with the pigs. We heard they were a little aggressive. Unfortunately, we totally missed out. Get in with the pigs… Take bread… Huge regret. Take lettuce for the iguanas, too. They were very cool! The sharks were incredible, as well and I also wish I had gotten in with them. My mother was worried that I would get bitten, so to appease her I abstained from swimming with the fishes. I will return to Ida’s Beautiful Beachfront Cottages with a braver crowd in order to fully experience everything in its glory!
Thank you Ida and Terrance! It was truly paradise!

Wonderful - relaxing, great location
Three of us including our 4 year old had a wonderful time - the cottages are lovely, good quality bedding and comfortable so we slept very well. The bay is amazing, shallow so great for kids without any dangers/annoyances and a lovely beach hut with kayaks, hammock etc. Recommend renting a boat and exploring for a day as there is so much to see! Food/Grocery options limited on the island so if you have favorites, bring them along! Idea was an excellent host. Will recommend and return!

Best Vacation Ever!
My family of 5 vacationed in Black Point for a week and we did not want to leave! Ida and Terrance have 4 updated cottages with the most amazing view and sunset. We were able to enjoy a private beach, snorkeling just outside the door, kayaking and so much more! We really enjoyed finding sand dollars and shells as the water rolled in and out every 6 hours. Everybody on the island is so friendly. We enjoyed Lorainnes Cafe with wonderful lobster mac and cheese. We enjoyed Dashamons lobster and even Ida cooked a meal for us that was out of this world. Ida and Terrance have several boats for rent and exploring the Exuma islands was some of the best days of my life. The first day on the boat Raynar took us out and showed us around. I would highly reccommend that. We were comfortably on our own the other two days. I met some of the best people in the world! Be sure to say hello to Bread Boy and meet with the Principle of the school on the island. My children enjoyed a nightly pick up game with the locals at the school. The gold cart was a must too. So much to do on the island and around in a private way. I highly recommend a visit and a return visit!!!!

Great Place to Vacatio and Get Away!!!
Our family of four stayed here for 7 wonderful nights. Every view from the cottage was beautiful. We pretty much had all of the beaches and ocean to ourselves! We spent some good unconnected time and slower pace with our boys. Ida was a great host. Cottage was very clean and was perfect for our family. We had Ida order groceries ahead of time (highly recommend). We met some wonderful folks both who live on the island or were vacationing. Recommend: Beach at end of King's Street, Happy Hour at Scorpios, Fishing with Clifton Smith (Staniel Cay), snorkeling off the bay in front of the cottage along the rocks at low tide, jet ski rental by Bread Boy, fresh bread by Coreen, swimming with the pigs, sandbar in the middle of the Cays, nurse sharks at Compass Cay, golf cart rides around the island, dinner at Deshommons (order dinner ahead of time), lobsters from Craven at the dock behind the laundromat, basketball games in the evening with the local kids, haircut for the kids by Ida right on the bay, Ida's homemade carrot cake and conch fritters. Bring bug spray for when the wind dies down! We will definitely come back and bring others to enjoy this wonderful place.

Our family of five stayed here during spring break 2015. Ida was a wonderful host. We rented her boat during our stay and went to the swimming pigs and iguana island, etc. The beaches are beautiful, the water excellent, and the atmosphere so relaxing. Very safe. Enjoyed taking the golf cart to the beaches. Enjoyed swimming and snorkeling. We had Ada provide our first night meal, it was great. We loved the fresh coconut bread too! A great place to vacation. Would highly recommend it.

Quiet and Peacful
The location was wonderful and peaceful. Ida was very friendly and responded quickly to all my questions before we arrived. She was waiting for us when we got off the plane and the cottage was a perfect location 10-15 minute walk from everything other than the beach at the opposite side of the island which was still within walking distance, about 3 miles. There was a/c, comfy beds, plenty of towels, a kitchen stocked with the essentials for cooking (however there were no spices). The internet worked the first day, but went down after that, it was the weekend and couldn't be fixed until Monday, but you can always go to Lorraine's if you needed internet. If you do plan on cooking, I would advise asking Ida to get things before you get there as the grocery stores had very few fresh items. The restaurants had great fresh seafood and the people were very warm and inviting, but be sure to put your order in before 4 pm or you might be waiting 2-3 hours if plan just to sit down and eat. The anchorage and the beach had clear blue waters and white sand. You can walk and see plenty of starfish and sand dollars during low tide behind the cottage where there was a 2 person kayak, paddle board, volleyball net, and covered area. There was a small beach less then 5 minute walk from the front and if you keep walking over a few rocks there is a good cay to do some snorkeling. We rented her boat with a guide to see the pigs, iguanas, nurse sharks, and a sunken plane, unfortunately our guided didn't tell us that we had to have swim fins and wait until low tide to snorkel at the Thunderball grotto. I would definitely go back and stay at Ida's cottage for a relaxing vacation with friendly people.

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!
This was such a wonderful location and we have such amazing memories that we will never forget! The whole experience was a delight from the beginning. We were able to leave Nassau 4 hours early because the all nine passengers and pilot were checked in and ready. It was a beautiful flight with wonderful colors of the sea. When we got to Black Point, the lady who ran the airport tried to reach Ida for us as we arrived early but could not get hold of her. So she put the 5 of us and our luggage in her pickup truck and she tracked down Ida. The 2 bedroom cottage was very nicely decorated with beautiful views on both sides of the property. Lots of towels and comfy beds. It had AC, which we did not use, reliable internet and TV which was only turned on for Sunday football. We spend most of our time on the deck or on the private beach. We did rent a golf cart which was a fun way to get around and see the area. There is the most amazing white sand beach about a 15 minute golf cart away (or about an hour easy walk). We were the only ones on it. The water was so clear and so pretty. We saw lots of stingrays. We did rent a boat and a guide one day to see the iguanas, feed the swimming pigs, swim with the nurse sharks and snorkel. It was definately a highlight for us. I am very grateful to Ida, who realized the winds had picked up and it was pretty rough, so she called our guide and got him to drop us off at a sheltered bay and she sent someone to pick us up in a pickup truck and drive us back to our cottage. The people of Black Point were warm and friendly. We did have groceries sent over from Nassau and were able to find what we needed at the local store to supplement as well as buying homemade bread from Corene. The bar (Scorpios) provided off sales of beer and rum. The beer was expensive but the rum was cheap. And Happier Hour was fun. Ida looked out for us and checked up on us every once in awhile to make sure we had everything. She was a wonderful person and we hope to be back one day. It was by far our favorite place!

My husband and I stayed here for 1 glorious week! It was so relaxing and breathtaking beautiful! Having the views of the Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic on the other side was simply amazing. We breathed in the exhilarating Caribbean salt air and let it soak into our pores. The cottage was just the right size for just the two of us with great amenities. Ida was a friendly and accommodating hostess. We were so sad to leave our island paradise. We hope to return soon with our two daughters. We would highly recommend this cottage, either the one bedroom or two bedroom. Pure paradise!

My wife and I spent 4 nights in Black Point in Ida's cottage. The Exuma Cays are beautiful and this cottage is located on a remote island where you will be surrounded by tranquility. We reviewed and searched many rentals on Black Point as well as Staniel Point and we were very fortunate to end up at Ida's cottage. Again, you cannot get better than the location of the cottages as they are on a hill overlooking both the bay and the ocean. Further, they are equiped with dish TV, a/c, and wifi. Every night we utilized the golf cart to go into town for dinner. I would suggest trying all the restaurants as each offer great food and company. And getting the homemade bread is a MUST!
We had one issue with Ida in regard to renting a boat through her. Fortunately, Raymond "Bread Boy" Andrews came to the rescue. Bread Boy has boat rentals and is quite the hospitable character. I would definately recommend renting a boat to explore the several cays and Bread Boy would be the person to call. Just do a search for Raymond "Bread Boy" Andrews or Ocean Breeze Rentals. We rented a skiff for a few days and explored Iguana Island, Pig Island, Thunderball Grotto, etc. etc. I'm a diver that has been to several islands in the Caribbean and I have yet to find water as crystal clear as the water in the Exumas.
To be honest, I was reluctant to write a review for the selfish reason that I hope Black Point does not become a tourist destination, but rather remains the friendly, Bahamian settlement it currently is. There is no doubt my wife and I hope to go back. Next time we most likely bring our son and perhaps more of our family.

First off, both my husband and I look for and vacation to off the beaten path places, but Black Point Cay is probably the most laid back, hard to get to places (but not really) quietiest place we've ever stayed at...and we loved it. We stayed in the one bedroom cottage (more of a studio) and seriously, it was all we needed. Up on a hill, it overlooked the harbour/bay on one side, and the Atlantic Beach on the other...both the views and the breezes are stunning. One of the most beautiful beaches (amongst many we've been to), probably ranks as the top beach on our list: Plain Bay Beach. It's only a golf cart ride from the cottage (just ask Ida). Speaking of Ida, she really is the perfect hostess...she'll ask you if you need anything and although she keeps tabs on you, she gives your space as well...a perfect combo.
During our stay, we rented a 17 ft Boston Whaler from Raymond (pushy but loveable) and took to the many cays, most notably Staniel Cay...saw the swimming pigs (they swim right out to you for some grub), and even anchored right off Great Guana Cay (yes, they have big lizards there waiting for you to stop on by). Honestly, you can have Staniel Cay and all the folks there that think it's all a bag of chips...it's not. Black Point is the place to be if you like blissful solitude. Bring cash (no ATMs); Ida doesn't take credit cards either (she accepts checks). Also, the grocery store is very limited in provisions (could be it was between deliveries to the island). But they do have several restaurants that will accommodate breakfast, lunch and dinner. We really loved this place.

If you're looking for a relaxing beach vacation in the Bahamas, this is the place! The owner, Ida was great. The cottage was immaculate. The views are superb. Stunning views of both the ocean and the bay. There is a beautiful sand bar to walk at low tide. I enjoyed putting my beach chair on the sand bar and relaxing for hours (until the tide reaches my chair!) The people at Black Point couldn't be friendlier! The colors of the water are awesome. If at all possible , I will be back someday.

My girlfriend and I (and her 2 small boys) spent 11 days at Ida's 2-bedroom cottage. Ida's place is cozy, clean and has an amazing view of the ocean from its hilltop location. The included golf cart provided all the land transportation we ever needed. We experienced the odd power blackout (as did all of Blackpoint) - but it really didn't affect the enjoyment of our holiday.
We spent many days at a wonderful beach within golf cart-driving range from the cottage. On all but one of those days we had the entire beach to ourselves.
We also rented a 17' Boston Whaler from one of the locals and did days trips to many of the nearby Cays (Staniel, Sampson, and Compass, to name a few), for snorkeling, beaching and just relaxing with a Kalik in hand. The Exumas are absolutely gorgeous – water visibility often approaches 200 feet.
This isn't a holiday destination for everyone however. If you like all-inclusives, crowds, and planned excursions, this wouldn't be your cup of tea. But if you like to get off the beaten path, drive your own agenda, being the only ones on absolutely gorgeous beaches, and don't mind bbq-ing locally caught lobster and fish, this locale will definitely cut it. Renting a boat will open up the nearby area for activities like snorkeling, diving, even kite boarding. On one of the windier days, the kids even tried boogie-boarding for the first time - again on a secluded beach.
We would definitely recommend Ida’s place to others. In fact - based on our experience - a couple we know rented a cottage from Ida two weeks after we returned to Canada.

Very nice clean cottage. Golf cart a plus for the time there. Super views. Lots of great boating locations. Ida was very attentive to our additional needs. Very quiet island but perfect for a small group that enjoys it. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed the outdoor grill and deck. We will definitely return.

My friends and I rented two of Ida's cottages for 12 nights. Ida and her family are friendly and do everything to help make your stay incredible. The cottages were clean, well-cared for and comfortable. Plenty of space outside, too, to relax and enjoy the views. Look in any direction and see incredible blue waters in many shades - from sapphire on the Atlantic side to the many shades of turquoise blue on the Caribbean side. Amazing sunrises and sunsets. Great beach for swimming and launching kayaks. We kayaked to Iguana beach and rented a boat with a driver (Bollo - spelling?) to visit the beach with the swimming pigs on a motor boat and snorkel in the Land and Sea Park - so many fish!!! Electric golf cart provided for touring the island and trips to the settlement for groceries. Friendly locals and cruisers welcomed us and we left knowing we had made many new friends and a reason to return to this lovely island. Make sure to try Lorraine's mother's coconut bread and visit Althea Adderly's shop with her jewelry and palm baskets - just behind Adderly's store.

IDA from Black Point Exuma provided a wonderful 11 day visit! Cottage was clean, all the needed cooking facilities for two, including coffee maker, toaster, stove, pots, dishes, cutlery, etc. A great shower with extra towels for the beach visits, a comfortable Queen size bed with a rollaway optional bed and all wrapped by a phenominal view of the Atlantic Ocean from one window and the Caribbean from another! Decks faced both waterways for that sunrise and sunset coffee. For those treks into town or out to auxillary beaches, there was an electric golf cart provided. Wonderful! Throughout the time, IDA was friendly and outgoing. Would I go back to this location ... yes, definitely. Thanks Ida!

The most beautiful views, exceptionally clean, warm and welcoming rental cottage I have ever stayed in. The owner was incredible, assisting us with a last minute change of plans. Ida was our knight in shining armour coming to our rescue just 2 days away from Christmas! She put us in touch with everyone and everything we needed for a fantastic11 day stay on the island. I would happily recommend this location to anyone looking for a quiet, friendly, safe and peaceful place to stay. We fished, snorkled, rented a boat, hiked and explored the island to our hearts content. Thank you Ida for everything! You are the reason we will come back to Black Point!
