It was a beautiful location and the staff were so helpful. I also loved the history of the property.
The showers - it was very hard to turn them on and off and an over bath shower is not safe for older people.

It's a big imposing hotel with impressive public spaces. It was a pleasure to have a drink on the terrace overlooking the gardens and to walk around them. Pleasant meal in the main restaurant on our first night - delicious sorbet - but a better meal in the club house before we left
We stayed when covid cases were high and there was very evidently pressure on the restaurant staff. They did their best - especially the restaurant manager - but clearly they had to use inexperienced staff and there were delays and mistakes. For the most part this didn't affect our stay but little things could have been improved despite the situation. For example when the pastry chef was off ill surely someone could have bought a packet of biscuits to serve with tea in the lounge? Our room service meal was shockingly poor - Covid was absolutely no excuse for not being able to make an adequate ham sandwich and serve up hot fries. It's a very long way to some of the bedrooms up and down tiny staircases when you are carrying heavy luggage. The room decor was decidedly tired.
On checking out staff were courteous but not particularly friendly - perhaps a bit stressed. The bill came in a ridiculous format that was difficult to decipher.

breakfast was amazing, full english, the food overall was very good quality.
the drinks prices were very expensive

Delightful building and location. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Its not cheap but a very lovely location.
My only comment would be on the slightly old fashioned process for breakfast with a rather ordinary cereals section and then a buffet set up for cooked food. It felt as if you weren't trusted to help yourself and a member of staff would put on your plate what you wanted. Might be worth a revisit for management as i think the whole arrangement for breakfast could be considerably improved with a bit of thought.

The lovely grounds; truly stunning
The restaurant was very expensive; the food was good but the menu was a little dated and uninspiring.

Loved cocktail bar, excellent choice of breakfast and my husband and I raved on about the dining room. Spa treatment was wonderful and good value, my therapist was amazing and the reception lady at Spa was so caring and welcoming knowing we had a stressful day having holiday abroad cancelled. Stunning grounds!!!😊😊😊
Prices of cocktails were a bit pricey🙁🙁🙁

The hotel was amazing couldn't fault any of it.
The spa was a little dissapointing as there was no seam room or sauna which we were really looking forward to. The pool was quite cold and the jacuzzi didn't have enough bubble power. It was very clean and and well equipped in the changing room.

Spa was not very good

Location was good, room was cosy and spacious. Swimming pool area in spa was lovely. Staff great
Cooked Breakfast was only warm in temperature and served on cold plates so whole breakfast was cold by the time you sat back down to eat it. Service charges and tray charges applied to room service although tray charge is not noted anywhere so only discovered this after we had ordered. Dinner was ok but not up to the standard we expected

Beautiful room, appreciated the fan as it was very hot. Wonderful grounds, nice lounge area, the spa and pool looked lovely but we didn't use them.
Check in was delayed and the desk staff not very helpful.
We had to ask several times for our coffee and toast with breakfast.

beautiful surroundings, gardens are amazingly kept.
TV in room didn’t work, whilst clean & comfortable it was rather dated & for the cost of the room it did not warrant the price. breakfast was poor, overcooked bacon & sausages, the queueing for cooked breakfast didn’t seem to work as high amount of people queuing with not enough staff to deal with amount of people.

the setting, the views,general ambience,
there was very little noise insulation in our room. We very clearly heard people rowing and using extremely foul language until about 02.30

Good bedroom. Spacious and well equipped
Dinner was not available in the restaurant. That was shocking. The hotel ought to expect those booking for overnight to be in for dinner.

We were there for a wedding, the wedding element was fantastic and well organised with excellent service throughout and great food. Couldnt reccommend more as a wedding venue.
The room was musty and damp. It smelled faintly of mould. The breakfast was disappointing in many respects. We were directed to a completely different group on arrival, sat in a corner by a noisy table and then largely ignored by staff. We were able to order after 30 minutes and waited a further 40 for food to arrive. The buffet queue was long and impractically infront of drinks/continental breakfast elements and therefore constatly interrupted. THe food was then served by a man with a heavily bandaged hand wet from contact with the breakfast food itself. This was not ok. Considering how much it we were charged this was inexcusable really. The beds were two pushed together so spent the night falling between the two.
